-]The first round of the battle against this trainer blocking Cerbera's way was incredible. Her new Makuhita was showing just what of a powerhouse it had the potential to become, what with those rapid jabs to the Rhyhorn's head. The rock pokemon went down quick, not even getting the chance to fight back. It was almost too easy, considering that Berrie had only battled one other trainer before. Granted, she had whupped that gym leader pretty well too, but Berrie knew she had gotten kind of lucky with that. With this first round, though, she was starting to get fired up. The trainer recalled his fainted pokemon, and Cerbera took the opportunity to do likewise, curious of what the guy would do next. The young man didn't seem put out at all, things were just getting started for him. A new pokemon was called out, an Espeon this time.[- -]Spirit began to giggle inside Cerbera's head when the new pokemon emerged from the ball, clearly amused. she teased, [- -]Cerbera had to cover her mouth to stifle a laugh of her own at the green-furred beauty's comment. She hadn't expect Spirit to be so petty, but it was kind of fun. Still, an Espeon was something she was very familiar with...she had a good idea of what it could do. Clancing over her shoulder at her icy blue Haunter, she said, "Yuki, why don't you show that Espeon what you can do! Give him a tongue lashing..."[- -]"Haunt Haunt Haunt!" she replied, laughing a bit for no other reason than she could. The Haunter floated over her trainer;s head and over to the opponent's Espeon. There was a very spirited licking, and the Espeon seemed to be quite devastated by it, but by no means out of the fight. It dove at Yuki, but only passed right through before landing back on all fours. In response, Yuki gave the critter another firm lick, knocking the Espeon out cold.[-

-]Though not as quick as the first part of the battle, Yuki thoroughly trounced the plainly colored Espeon. It wasn't hard to tell from the look on the young man's face that he was startingt o get a bit worried. His two strongest pokemon had been easily defeated, and it was pretty clear he'd bitten off more than he could chew. However, Cerbera was not taking much notice of any of that, because she had run over and hugged her icy blue Haunter in celebration. "Great job, Yuki!" she exclaimed, "That was wonderful!" She carried the pokemon back to where the others were waiting, thinking it was over, only to have the boy send out another one. "Oh...You've got more?" she said, genuinely surprised, "Well, I hope they're a challenge...more of a challenge than the other two. Crash, come back out and show this guy what-for." Her words seemed to agitate the boy, making his face red, but that only made Berrie giggle more. "Fake that thing out, Crash!" she called out, "And then finish him off with more jabs!"[- -]As the Makuhita materialized again, he saw his new opponent and nodded. The yellow sumo swung wide at the mole, cleverly distracting the Drilbur and catching it under the jaw with the opposite hand. He then began pumping his rapid punches into the mole while it was still reeling from the last blow, dropping this foe easily too.[-

Rather than use the pokeball this time, though, she just called Crash back to her side, then waited to see what her opponent would do. She was a bit startled to see the young man bring out a Moltres, as she had never seen one before. She'd seen pictures, yes, heard stories even...but never seen one with her own eyes. It was incredible...almost as incredible as watching Feng hatch had been. "Umm...Wow...this," she stumbled over her words a bit, a little in awe. Cerbera looked over at her Haunter and asked, "What do you think...Can you take him, Yuki?"[- -]Yuki nodded in response, latching onto Cerbera in a tight, chilly hug before floating out to meet the Moltres in battle. She waited for her trainers instructions and then began to glow a bit. A storm whipped up as it had before in Lumiose City, coating the surrounding area with frost and slamming the firebird about with chunks of snow and hail. When the storm cleared, the bird was on the ground, unconscious.[-

-]Cerbera couldn't help but feel amazingly powerful for how easily she had managed to crush this other trainer. It had actually been a pretty simple matter, all things considered. When the guy had blocked her path, Berrie had quite honestly expected a challenge, maybe even to face something she wasn't ready to handle yet. Instead....he'd been a bit of a disappointment. All this build up with no substance to enjoy. To top it all off, the boy had dropped to his knees and began sobbing. "God!" Berrie yelled, more annoyed by the sight than she'd expected, "You are pathetic! You don't deserve to be walking around with pokemon you don't know how to use! And to sully a freaking Moltres with your lack of skill? How did you even get something so amazing?!" She really didn't understand why she was so upset by this, but it definitely got under her skin. She walked up to the boy and grabbed him by the collar. Even though she was fairly petite, Cerbera was strong from her training and easily hauled the boy up to his feet. She proceeded to slam him into the tree he'd been leaning against before and then deck him in the jaw, hard. Looking back at her pokemon she motioned them over and started back off down the road. They had only traveled a short way when a small group of Minun ran across the path. Frustrated as she was, the girl ordered her Haunter to blast them all with a blizzard. All five dropped at the same time and Berrie slung a pokeball at one, catching it easily.[-

-]Cerbera was quite distraught over the outcome of her trainer battle and the events that immediately followed it, that she wasn't even really aware of what she was doing at the moment. The events just kept replaying over and over inside her head. Berrie had no idea what could have posessed her to act like that. She never went off on anyone before....not like that anyway. Every young lady had a few arguments under her belt, especially with parents like hers...but to just so casually resprt to unprovoked physical violence? It was not the way Cerbera wanted to picture herself. The girl walked forward and picked up the Minun's pokeball, and it wasn't until she held the pokeball in her hands that the gorl realized just what she was up to. Her mind finally caught up with her body and she slumped down in the grass with a sigh. "Hey guys," she said to her pokemon, recalling Crash, "Everyone takr a break....Loofah, could you get some snacks out?"[- -]The Frogadier croaked an acknowledgement and then hopped over to Cerbera with a single bound. She began to rummage through Berrie's bag for tue snack containers and then hopped over to each free-roaming companion, sharing the berry mix with everyone.[- -]Cerbera took a few moments to compose herself and get her thoughts back in order while Loofah brought everyone something to nibble on. After a few moments, the girl noticed her holocaster was blonking with a pair of messages. One was from Gio, and the other was a response from Isis. Reading the messages over, it seemed that Gio was thinking the meeting was just coincidental, that it hadn't been anything major. This was pretty disappointing, because she'd felt like something she could tease the older boy with. She wrote back:[-

-]Cerbera looked down at her holocaster once more and nodded, sending the messages off to the proper people. She was really kind of excited to see the picture of herself and Fenghuang, now that it had been brought to the forefront of her mind once more. Conveniently, it also helped to push her worrying and guilt to the back of her mind. Quite honestly, the part of all of that which concerned the girl the most was knowing that she had barely scratched the surface. She could have gone farther....much farther...to a place that the girl could have never come back from. Even now, that feeling gave her chills. To further calm herself, and since they were already taking a break anyway, Berrie got out the materials she had purchased back in Lumiose. She continued the process of building her own kite from scratch, finding solace in the creative, engaging task. She worked on the kite for nearly an hour, all the while her pokemon were all cuddled up around her, resting. All except for Yuki, anyway, who was rolling back and forth across the top of Berrie's head. Cerbera found herself giggling at the ghost's silly antics, enough so that she could no longer concentrate and started packing things up. As everyone started back onto the path, the girl spotted a pretty flower and bent down to pick it. Suddenly, the rose jumped away from her hand and started to run away, startling the girl. "Aaah! yuki! Get it!" she cried out, causing the ghost to ice over the immediate area once more. Berrie instinctively hucked a pokeball at the flower pokemon who had frozen in it's tracks, easily capturing it.[-

-]Lua had kept quiet for a while after that trainer battle, needing some time to process things for herself. She had seen an entirely different side of Berrie, and from the way the girl reacted to her own behavior, it was entirely possible that Cerbera hadn't known that side of her was there either. It was....unsettling to think that such a good person could have something like that hidden inside them, and it made Lua kind of uncomfortable. While they had all rested, she had sat with Winnie curled up in her lap, silently stroking the little Fennekin's soft fur and wondering if she had chosen the wrong trainer after all. It pained Lua to even think that, because she had come to adore her trainer. When they had gotten up and started down the path again, the little ginger's mind was racing still, looking at things in as many different ways as she could. Finally, she spoke up, she said, [- -]Cerbera's mind was pierced by the gentle words from her Zorua, and she was snapped out of her funk almost immediately. Maybe Lua just didn't understand how what she said sounded, but it made Cerbera's face grow warm, a distinct redness filling her cheeks. She hugged Lua tight, kneeling down to be at head level with her. "Thank you, Lua," she whispered, her face still red, "That...That means a lot to me." She gave the little ginger a soft peck on the forehead and said, "Let's keep going. We should be able to make it into town before nightfall. She took Lua's hand and headed down the path once more. They went around the bend and there, between the trees, the next town came into view. One of the trees had an odd glow to it though, and it was rustling a bit like there was something in it. Cerbera's free hand reached for her pokeballs and she called forth her Makuhita. "Crash," she said, "There's something in that tree....be ready if it jumps out at us..."[- -]The Makuhita nodded, and jump out the creature did. Hell, they didn't even have to wait very long. It made a beeline for Lua, but Crash was right there, ready to intercept it. He made a distracting motion or two and then slugged what turned out to be an Illumise in the head, stunning it for a moment. While it was busy seeing stars, Crash shoulder checked it into a tree, knocking the bug out cold. A pokeball immediately soared over from the readied Cerbera, capturing the bug easily.[-

Apparently upset that his mate had been stolen from him, a Volbeat dropped out of the tree and charged at the group in much the same manner as the Illumise had.[- -]Crash shook his head a bit as the other bug started charging, and he took care of this one in the exact same manner as he had the last. Some flashy movements distracted the pokemon long enough to let the Makuhita crack it pretty good in the head, dazing it. He then rammed his shoulder into the bug and tackled it into the exact same tree trunk.[- -]Cerbera was right on the ball with this one too, having a pokeball out and ready to throw. She chucked it, but her first toss went wide. The girl tossed a second as soon as she saw her first miss, and then the Volbeat was hers.[-

"Thank you for your hard work," she said, "That was really impressive, Crash. You're going to be an important part of this team, I can tell." The returned hug, however, was a bit tighter than she could handle, and Berrie had to recall the Makuhita back to his ball as well before he got too carried away. Standing up, she walked back over to where the others were waiting and scooped Feng up off of Loofah's head, where the bird had been perched for the past hour or so. She snuggled the little baby birdie in her arms and headed for the town ahead.[- -]It took another half hour or so to reach the town, the straight road making it seem closer than it really was. However, that wasn't a huge deal, because they still made it to town before night had fallen for real. It was just getting dark enough that the street lights were starting to kick on and Berrie suggested, "Hey, you guys have all been doing so great...Why don't we eat somewhere nice tonight?" Before the others could respond, however, a small group of mischievous Plusle ran out of the nearby alley and latched onto Cerbera, stealing her bag and running off with it. "Ahh! Stop! Hey!" she cried out, trying to swat them off. When they car she cried out, "Come on! After them! They've got our money!"[- -]Yuki was able to catch up to the thieving pokemon faster than the others since she could just phase through the buildings instead of needing to go around. Getting a feeling of deja' vu from earlier, fighting the other little band of pokemon, the ghost whipped up another frosty storm. Just as the others were reaching the end of the alley, a gust of cold air blew out of it, and when the mist cleared, five little pokemon were frozen stiff, a bag balanced on their heads.[-

The girl walked up to the clusted of chilled pokemon and grabbed her backpack, slipping the rime-lined bag onto her back once more with a bit of a shiver. Then, realizing these little guys were different from the little mice she had seen and caught earlier, she quickly snapped one up in a fresh pokeball. Berrie turned around, wrapping her arms around Yuki and hugging the ghost as tight as she could without going through it. "Thank you, Yuki," she said, "For that, we're definitely gunna get some good eats. To the restaurant, everyone!" It wasn't hard to find a restaurant in town that catered to trainers, and within a few minuted, Cerbera and all of her friends were clustered around a table, eating to their hearts' content.[-

-]The small group stayed at the restaurant for what felt like just a few minutes, but was really closer to two hours. They were really starting to glow close, like a family should...but this group was far from anything Berrie would have expected to be a family. She had a family....she hated them. But this....this was wonderful, to be out and about with people who cared about her, who she cared for. It made the time just seem to fly by. When they left the restaurant, it was quite dark out, and they had to rely entirely on the street lights and what came through the shop windows to find their way around. The little group wandered around the town for a while before finally finding a Pokemon Center so they could rest.[-

She had opted to not put it away entirely with the intention of working on it some more when she woke up. Berrie spent the night cuddled up in bed with Lua and her other pokemon, once more getting one of the best nights of rest that she'd ever had. The girl woke up early the next morning and carefully slid out of the bed, not wanting to wake the others. It was kind of sweet watching the whole pile snooze together. She worked on her kite a bit more, not stopping until the others had awakened. Once the small group had eaten their fill of breakfast, they headed out from the pokemon center to explore the town and find out what there was to see or do. They were confronted once more, however, far too soon. It seemed that the Plusle who had gotten away the previous evening had brought help. One of them was standing on a mailbox and pointing at Cerbera. It began shouting, directing a small group of Minun to attack her. If it wasn't such a serious situation, Cerbera might have laughed at how cute it was. "Yuki...You know what to do," she said to her ghost pokemon.[- -]"Haunt haunt!" the pokemon replied, laughing a little in the girl's stead. It floated right over to the menacing group of pokemon andunleashed a huge blast of frosty air, complete with ice and snow. Yuki didn't stop blasting until the road was slick with ice and the pokemon had been knocked out cold.[-
