It's interesting that they count by the days... and not years. Or use both counters (i.e. 5 years 5 days).

*shrugs* Oh well...

For the past couple days I've been looking at the genealogy my Mom's done. It's very interesting seeing where I get my heritage from.

I've got Irish, Scottish, and German heritage.

The most intriguing part is my father's line. Specifically following the family surname all the way back. I have no clear idea of what heritage I get from that side of the family... because no one has clear knowledge on a particular family member.

The thing that is known is that his name is Thomas John Watson and was born sometime in the early 1700 ((usually 1708 or 1710)).

But as for his place of birth... that's a mystery. Some say he was born in Scotland, because of a nickname he had "The Scotchman". Others say he was born in Virginia. And then there's even some people saying he was born in Dunraven Castle in Wales.

This is the Dunraven Castle in Wales. Though it's no longer there now a days, because it was torn down for safety reasons.

Quite impressive, huh?
PostPosted: Wed May 26, 2010 11:06 am

Then there's some speculation that he received the title "Sir" after his [unnamed] father died.

And there's also speculation that he was an Admiral in the Navy... or that he came over to the U.S. in search of a brother who was an Admiral in the Navy (which he didn't find, and ended up settling in Virginia).

*shrugs*

In the end, it looks like everyone who can trace their roots to this "Thomas John Watson" have come to a dead end, because there's no official conclusion on who he is and where he came from. Nor is there any mention of who his parents are.

After awhile, getting tired of trying to obsess over finding info about him, I just decided that I would say that I'm related to Dr. Watson from Sherlock Holmes. xd

Dr. Watson's full name is "Dr. John H. Watson". It is theorized that the "H" is the initial for "Hamish", the Scottish spelling of James. The only mention we have about Watson's family is that he had "neither kith nor kin in England" (A Study in Scarlet).

My ancestor has John in his name. True, it's his middle name... but still. And we have a possible Scottish link, via his possible birthplace. xd

*shrugs*

The only problem is that my ancestor is born in the 1700s and Dr. Watson was born about 100 years later.

Just a bit of fun in the end. xd

But it is sort of cool that I can make a theorized reference to the character of Dr. Watson. And that in some circumstances it's not such a far-fetched idea.

True, he may just be a character... but whatever.
