Marx beamed, at Alexandra's (sort of) confirmation, and at her appreciation for the compliment. Though really, as far as he was concerned, he was just stating the truth! Still grinning that stupid grin of his, he laced his fingers together behind his head, as he so often did, while continuing to walk towards the exit of the cave. As they exited, though, his holocast went off again, and he dropped a hand down to grab it while keeping his gaze on Alex. He gave a shrug to her question. "Not really! Least, not yet! I'm sure I'll be able to learn, though! I can probably find a book on it, or find someone that knows about it! I think I may know... someone, actually..." he mused. Didn't he? He thought he remembered someone mentioning something with contests. He couldn't remember who or what it was, though. Oh well! He'd ask his friends! He was more focused on Xion, and he scratched his nose a bit when she commented he didn't seem 'that' out of shape, looking up and away. "Well.. Thanks," he sort of mumbled back, not really sure how to take it. He was glad his trainer's slacking hadn't apparently had too much of a detrimental effect, then, at least. He looked down at the stone, peering at it, but then grinned, straightening up as he did. "Is that why you're taller?" he asked, "And look like you evolved? What is it, anyway?" Alexandra relaxed once they were out of the cave, her previous smile dimming into an expression of high spirits; her cheeks had started to hurt from smiling so wide and for such an extended amount of time. She adjusted her glasses, settling them farther up the bridge of her nose, and turned her head to do a quick head-count, taking notice of Marx looking down at his Holocast in the process of swiveling back to face the right direction. "How's Cheria?" she asked suddenly, his back-and-forth between the blonde finally reminding her that she had no clue of her wellbeing or progress. She nodded when he suggested getting a book on contests. "You really are serious about this, aren't you?" she mused, another smile threatening to appear, and she'd just stopped getting her cheeks to hurt!
"If you want, I could ask around as well. If I find out anything I'll tell you," she suggested before she gave a nod to his question. "I would, tell me when and where and I'll make sure to be there." Luckily after she defeated Maylene she'd be in possession of HM Fly, after that all she'd need to do was... get over her air-sickness.
Xion rubbed the back of her head sheepishly, aware of just how.. well her attempt at a compliment had gone over. She'd have to try better next time. The fairy giggled at Basil's question, the inquiry causing her to puff her chin out in pride and tilt her chin up. "Yup!" she chirped, and took the moment to relish in the fact that she was, once again, taller than Basil. Once he'd evolved into a Grovyle she'd lost her height advantage but now, with this new, and unexpected, evolution she was once again on the up-and-up. "It's a mega stone," she announced, her smile now having grown into a grin.
Briefly, Xion turned to look once more at Caldo, who'd put a momentary suspension on his training montage to join Alexandra, and then back to Basil, more than a little proud that her suggestion actually proved of some use. She shook her head with a light chuckle when he suggested she and Caldo taking on every wild pokemon they came across. "Naaaah," she assured him, waving her hand lightly. "We'll leave you at least... one." She perked up at the prospect of a race, head bobbing. "Yeah, sure! Just.. don't lose too horribly, okay?"

Once out of town, Cheria and Lhilei made their way to Connecting Cave. After that, it was Cyllage City. The closer she got to the city, the more nervous she felt. It'd been awhile since she was there, and unlike her last time through, it was going to be a prolonged stay. Hopefully she could get through it without any panic attacks. At the very least, Grant was the gym leader now, and she'd hung out with Grant more than a few times when they were kids. That should make it easier for her. Should, but she wasn't holding her breath.

Marx blinked and looked over at Alex as she asked about Cheria, but smiled as he put his device away. "She's good, I think!" he replied, "I'm trying to remember one of her pokemon by name! And she said she'd give me a really big hug if I got it right!" Which he seemed really quite excited over. But then again, it was a hug, and it was the prize to winning a game, and this was Marx, so why wouldn't he be? And that smile only grew when Alex asked him about his seriousness on contests, and he gave a fervid nod of his head. "Yeah! I mean, why not? It sounds like fun! And I don't really know anything about it..." His smile turned sheepish and he ran a hand back through his hair to rub his neck, giving a shrug of his shoulders.
He dropped his hand down, though, as she offered to help, his eyes lighting up. Oof, if she hadn't told him not to just randomly hug people...!! So instead he closed his eyes, his grin stretching wide at the offer. "That would be awesome! Thank you Alex! Uh... Zandra," he added, getting sheepish again as he, once more, nearly shortened her name. He gave a nod, though, and let his hand fall back to his side again. "Sure! I'll definitely tell you, once I know where it is, heh," he agreed.
And meanwhile, Basil was grinning over his own 'game'. He would keep the information Xion gave him in mind-- that there were these 'megastones'-- and maybe ask some more questions later, but for now, he really did feel like being more active. Like training. And if Marx wasn't going to do it with him, at least Xion would! Flashing her a smirk, he took off, racing ahead and darting towards the grass. Zigzagging around, he finally found a Vulbeat, and quickly took it out, pausing briefly to scan the area, and begin searching for more. They probably wouldn't be here very long, but... he wanted to do all the battling he could, while he could. Finding wild pokemon would probably be more difficult in the city...

Alexandra nodded at Marx's information, contended to learn that Cheria was doing well, only to give a quirk of an eyebrow. "A hug?" she repeated, only to laugh a moment. It was an interesting reward, and something only Marx could be excited about. "Well, I hope you remember the pokemon then." Thinking back on it, she'd only ever met one of Cheria's pokemon, the Kirlia who'd stayed by her side. Alexandra looked up at her companion, simply watching and listening to him in lieu of commenting. He certainly had a good amount of conviction, and it was certainly inspirational to see how passionate he was about, not just contests, but their dynamics, enough to actually find a book on it.
The brunette offered a smile at Marx's thanks, pausing after a moment when he made yet another slip-up on her name. She waved a dismissive hand. "You're welcome, Marx," she started and rolled her shoulder, alleviating a bit of tightness in the muscle. "And you can start calling me Alex, if it's easier for you." Might as well offer the same sort of leniency she afforded her sister, it wasn't even much of a problem and, at the very least, Marx tried to keep up the condition she'd set; to make it even better he'd done so for an entire year. "I look forward to seeing you in action," she admitted.
Xion hopped from one foot to the other, an external product of the sudden excitement she felt coursing through her. It'd been a while since she'd last trained as well, though in her trainer's defense she'd simply been busy training her other pokemon. But now that she had a chance to battle, through a little friendly competition, she'd make sure to take advantage of it. With a grunt she shot off, following quickly after Basil into the tall grass. She quickly branched away from him, only to find herself veering alarmingly close to an Abra and, unable to stop in time, fell into the psychic, sending them both into the ground. She was up a millisecond later, brushing herself off and sending a thousand apologies to the Abra, who was was now unconscious. Oops... Well, she'd still count it as one! Next time she'd just have to... make sure to actually battle the pokemon.

Marx grinned, nodding to confirm. Yes, a hug. A hug as a reward. His grin grew as she essentially wished him luck, and he waved his holo caster about a bit. "I think I did!" he proclaimed confidently, but then added, "Well, sorta." He looked at the device, still smiling. "I'll have to wait and see if she confirms." He tucked the device away for the time being, continuing to walk as they made their way through the town, towards the other end. It was a good thing Alex was probably paying attention, considering Marx would have likely gone off in the wrong direction, especially with the added distraction of the conversation.
Marx smiled, but then blinked, smile vanishing as she gave him permission to shorten her name, his expression clicking into one of surprise. "Really? Are you sure?" he asked, that trademark smile soon returning, his eyes lighting up. That would be a LOT easier, that was for sure! He looked excited just at the idea! But, would this mean others could call her that, too....? Either way, he was grinning at the idea that he wouldn't have to worry about messing up her name any more, at least not without risking annoying or frustrating her.
He blinked as his holo caster went off, flashing Alex a smile at her comment about seeing him in action. "Heh, thanks! Hey, you gotta tell me when you challenge the Elite Four," he added, pulling out his device, but keeping his attention on her for the time being, "So I can plan your congratulatory celebration of victory!" He gave a grin, but finally, quickly, looked to Cheria's message, grinning a bit as he read it, and typed up a reply.

Hitting send, he diverted his attention back Alex, and he tucked his device away. Luckily, he wasn't one to really think about it, else he might be confused why she thought he'd gone through the messages, considering he was still asking, and not certain in his answer. But, he was just excited about hearing if he'd 'won', so to speak.
Meanwhile, his pokemon was engaged in his own battle. Basil glanced over as he noticed Xion go flying into a pokemon, pausing briefly to make sure she was alright. Once he was sure she was, though, he grinned, quickly darting off, zigzagging around and knocking out another pokemon. They were probably going to reach that big city soon... so he wanted to try and get as many as he could, before they had to slow down and 'behave'.

Alexandra's eyes followed the erratic, back-and-forth motion of Marx's Holo Caster as he waved it about before she smiled. "Well, I'm glad to hear that," she said and looked away from his Holo Caster before she could make herself dizzy. "Though, if you did get it wrong, I could give you a hug?" she offered, and even then she realized how odd it sounded. It wasn't as that she didn't believe Marx didn't have the ability to recall something as simple as another trainer's pokemon's name, she could just see how much he looked forward to that hug, it would be upsetting if he couldn't receive even that. While she waited for his answer she turned her eyes back to the road, the city slowly coming into view. They were getting closer to South Lumoise, and at that thought the brunette instinctively turned to look down at Caldo to assure that he was still by her side, she didn't need to lose the rambunctious primate in such a crowded place.
Alexandra turned back to look at Marx, who seemed surprise at her allowing him to shorten her name, before she nodded, "yes, I am." Truly, there was no harm in it, and the man was obviously struggling to address her as her full name, there was no reason to have him go through that just because of her preference. Besides, he looked happy! Which, in turn, caused her to smile lightly. Marx really was a simple young man.
She chuckled lightly, "you're welcome, but I can assure you I won't be challenging the Elite Four anytime soon." They were the cream of the crop, at least from a trainer's point of view, and at this point the very idea was simply a pipe-dream, she had a long way to go before she'd challenge them. Still though, it was nice to hear how optimistic Marx was on the future plan. "Thank you, Marx. If you think you'd be up to it, when that time comes, I'll leave you in charge of that celebration."
Xion, in the meantime, had made a quick recovery from her initial bumble and was now taking on anything that moved, actually managing to dispatch them with moves rather than her body. Heh, what a work-out! It'd been a while since she'd taken on several pokemon consecutively, and although it was a bit taxing she certainly enjoyed it. The mega Mawile managed to take out one last pokemon before she was called back by her trainer, they were getting closer to the city now. Xion gave a cry of acknowledgement before she swiveled her head around to locate her friend, "c'mon Basil, we've gotta go!" She rocked on her heels, waiting for him to respond and start to move in her direction, before she moved to rejoin her trainer.

He was sitting beneath a tree, humming softly, and only stopped when he laid his eyes on the girl with pokemon in tow. "Hold it!" He shouted, "Not another step! 8f you wanna get through, you're going to have to battle me!" Cerbera was a bit startled at first, and she felt Lua duck behind her for safety. When it sank in, she began to giggle and called out, "You got it buddy!" The guy sent out a Rhyhorn, making Berrie giggle again. She had the perfect thing for that. Drawing a pokeball from her belt she called out, "It's all you, Crash! Arm thrust!"[- -]The Makuhita materialized from the ball and immediately began advancing on the rhino. As soon as he was in reach, hid arm began to pump, repeatedly jabbing the tock pokemon until it had passed out.[-
