It was a very good thing that Ravnos had healed quickly because that smell could have very quickly driven Grendel wild. It wasn't even as though he was particularly hungry. He just seemed to want Ravnos, very urgently, and that urge seemed to also extend toward his blood.

He kept pace with Ravnos through the hallway, wondering about the traps he had mentioned. Would those be here, or elsewhere? He remained on his guard, just in case.

Stepping out into the library, and seeing the sheer mass of it, was enough to make Grendel's eyebrows shoot up. Despite being associated with the Tremere, even he had to admit that it was impressive.

It was also quite daunting. How were they supposed to find what they needed, in all of that? If his powers didn't work on the door, would they also not work here?

"Please tell me you have a plan for finding any useful information, in all of this." He swept his hand out and gestured.

Ravnos laughed. “Of course I do.” He pointed to the ring on his index finger. “This ring will help us find exactly what we are looking for. All I have to do is think what I want and it will lead me straight to it.” Or at least that was how it was supposed to work. To be honest he had never used it before today so it it went south he’d have some serious egg on his face.

“Just be careful where you step.”

Closing his eyes Ravnos focused on the word Crusnik. Before long the wing began to glow and tug at his hand towards a large spiral staircase that seemed to go up and up forever. “Come on. Faster we find it faster we can get back to what we were doing previously.” He grinned as he let the ring lead him.

It wasn't often, or really at all that the God felt completely useless, yet here they were. It was weird, feeling powerless, the thought of it alone making his skin crawl. At least Ravnos seemed to be enjoying showing off, so Grendel could, begrudgingly, let himself be the side character in this little adventure, following along with very little to do but maybe get himself ensnared in some trouble.

Ravnos told him to be careful where he stepped, and he thought about attempting a simple levitation, just an inch or two off of the floor, but hesitated.

What if he couldn't get up? What if he had performance issues??

Grendel was hating the Tremere more and more by the second. With a lot of inward cursing, and maybe at least one spoken out loud, he followed behind Ravnos, keeping a watchful eye out for anything suspicious.

He quirked an eyebrow and glanced back over his shoulder as they began to fling the stairs. Grendel had been mumbling something under his breath. “What was th…”

But his question had been cut short when a faint clicking noise caught his attention. He stopped. One foot still planted on the step above his. “s**t….” Ravnos was so distracted by Grendel’s mumbling that he had forgotten to watch where HE stepped.

All of a sudden the stairs disappeared. Having retreated back into their base and essentially creating one giant slide that both would go tumbling down all the way back to the bottom. The surface was too slick to catch themselves on anything.

Once he finally landed back down at the bottom of the stairs Ravnos lay there on the ground. Only slightly dazed from the tumble. “I guess we won’t be using those stairs.” He mumbled more to himself. How silly it was that he was the one who didn’t follow his own advice. But that was a thing that happened more often than not. Which got him into trouble sometimes.

"I said---" But it would remain a mystery what he said because while he had actually been careful about what he was doing, Ravnos apparently was not being careful at all. He had a split second where he needed to decide if he would just allow himself to fall (albeit gracefully, even in this predicament, he would have refused to let himself "tumble" ) or if he would attempt to levitate.

Instinct won out. When he felt the stairs shift beneath his feet and his sense of equilibrium was gone, he caught himself with his power and hovered a couple of inches off of its now smooth and very slippery surface.

He turned and glanced down to where Ravnos was lying on the floor, his annoyance now mixed with amusement. He couldn't help but find it a little funny, considering how cocky the Disciple liked to behave, to see him knocked down a peg or two.

Or in this case, half a flight of stairs.

Still a bit dazed, Ravnos cracked open his eyes and peered up where Grendel hovered. A sudden look of surprise and dread washed over his features.

Above Grendel a green glow began to appear. Spreading out in a circle with what he could only guess were magical symbols. He pointed at it. “Watch out!” It had only appeared when Grendel used his powers so again he assumed it was some kind of magic deterrent.

If Grendel didn’t move quickly the magic circle would would encircle him and slam him to the ground.

What the ******** kind of magic had Sil been getting into? He could only hope they maybe whatever it was that was about to hit Grendel didn’t effect Gods like it might regular people.

Grendel saw the look in Ravnos's eyes and felt something building up above him before the Disciple even shouted. Whatever it was set his teeth on edge, and the hair stand up along his arms. It began the moment he used his power, and again, purely out of instinct, he moved, a blur that hurtled sideways and landed crouched on the floor, hopefully putting enough distance between himself and whatever spell had tried to take him out.

It wasn't often that a God needed to fear for himself, not unless they were faced with another God. Whatever magic this Sil had been using was powerful stuff, indeed, and he punched at the floor in frustrated anger. No vampire should have power enough to match him. He wasn't some paltry, minor Deity.

"I may need to have a word with this friend of yours when we're finished with all of this." He growled.

Frustration radiated off of the God. It was very palpable. And it was also pretty hot. Ravnos had to admit.

The speed in which Grendel moved he almost couldn’t keep up with. But he was thankful that he had been able to move out of the way. Hopefully this would be the end of the traps although there were probably many more if they weren’t careful.

Climbing to his feet Ravnos brushed himself off. He was about to ask Grendel if he was ok when out of no where a large book fell from the sky and smacked him in the head. His knee bent as he almost fell forward. “What the hell?” He rubbed at a sore spot on the back of his head before picking up the book that was now laying on the ground.

He flipped it open and flipped through a few pages. Eyes scanning the text within. “Huh. I….think this book just might help us out. However, if what i’m reading is right and it is a Crusnik or several we’re ******** pretty badly.”

As soon as it become apparent that he wasn't going to get very suddenly attacked by some other trap in the room, Grendel straightened up from his crouched position on the floor. He was still fairly bristling, but at least he was no longer thinking about breaking every single object in his immediate vicinity.

While Ravnos was getting to his feet, the God was preparing to shadow-step to his side, not trusting the room and not wanting to leave the Disciple unguarded for even a second longer.

Well, he ended up too late for that, appearing at Ravnos's side just as a book landed on his head. It might have actually been funny if he wasn't already feeling incredibly disgruntled. Looking up at wherever the tomb had fallen, he glowered, and bared many pointed teeth, as if daring the room to try that again.

"Are you alright?" Grendel asked of the Disciple, reaching out to gingerly run fingers along where he had been struck, attempting to siphon out any pain it may have caused him.

Curious about the contents of the book, he moved so that he see it from over Ravnos's shoulder. "Why? What does it say?" He frowned.

He didn't like to hear that he might not be able to deal with something himself.

When Grendel touched the back of his head where the book had hit him he had to stop himself from closing his eyes and leaning into that hand. The pain hasn’t been too bad and Grendel’s touch was making whatever pain that still lingered disappear. At least the library seemed to want them out as much as they wanted to just get what they came for and leave.

Ravnos pointed to a specific paragraph on the page with a claw. “Crusnik, Vampire Eaters.” He spoke out loud. “Crusnik are nearly impossible to kill themselves. They can shape shift into animal forms, are users of black magic and typically carry weapons that sometimes rival even those made by Gods…” He trailed off. “Again if it is one we are ********.” The we part was more geared towards Vampire kind. Grendel might survive an encounter but not even it seemed the Disciples would stand a chance.

Quietly he closed the book. A heavy frown coming to his lips as he pondered over the informs the book provided. Would they be hunted to extinction? How could he protect his clan if what he needed to protect them from could ultimately give him final death in the end.

So many more questions and no answers.

Glancing up where the book had originally fallen from he pursed his lips together. “Is this all you have?!” Silence. He had hoped that maybe another book would be thrown. He wouldn’t of even minded if it hit him in the head.

The Disciple was starting to worry more and more.

He continued to idly stroke his fingers along the back of Ravnos's head, finally settling his hand at the back of the Disciples neck. He didn't like what he was hearing, but he didn't like the worry he could feel radiating off of the vampire next to him even more.

"We don't know that this is what we are even dealing with. I would need to find one, first." He very specifically left out the we part in that second sentence, not wanting to put Ravnos in that sort of danger.

"Does it say anywhere how to kill one?"

“You?” He turned his head slightly to look over his shoulder. “Ravnos didn’t like the idea of Grendel confronting this kind of thing on his own. What if it could kill him. The chances of that could be slim but there was also an off chance that it could kill a God. Even one as powerful as him.

Flicking the book back open he skimmed over a few more pages. Dark eyes widening just a bit before he snapped the book shut before the other could get a good look. “Maybe we should just leave and table this Crusnik business for a bit. I mean it’s like you said we don’t know if that’s what’s exactly going on here.” He tried to shoot him a reassuring smile but he knew that Grendel problem wouldn’t just leave it alone.

Besides it was Ravnos’ idea to come on this trip and find out exactly what was going on. So to have a sudden change of heart would definitely tip him off.

Dammit.

“Yes, me.” Grendel emphasized, his tone implying that this was not up for discussion. If he were to hunt the Crusnik, he would do it alone. It was his duty, and his domain to protect, and he had been left to do that job on his own.

“Ravnos. Dracian.” His voice came out mildly threatening. “Do not make me take that book away from you. What is it you are you trying to hide?”
PostPosted: Tue Oct 11, 2022 11:12 pm

“I don’t like that idea at all.” He said flatly. Sure,ok, he wasn’t a God, at least power wise but what happened if Grendel managed to get hurt. Or killed. He would likely never know and the thought of him being injured and alone didn’t settle well with him at all. But was he projecting too much mortality on to him?

What if he would be just fine? He would return and they could carry on like they had been.

He knew he would ask. He knew it would do no good to try and sway him from knowing this now. Ravnos sighed. This was a time he disliked Grendel knowing his true name, it gave him power. There was always power in names. Flipping the book back open a third time he pointed at a picture on the page. “The Spear of Destiny. It’s a….Holykat sacred weapon. And from what I know Holykat sacred weapons are kept by the Goddess’ Angelique. He only deals them out under extreme circumstances.” He knew that was the last thing that Grendel would want to hear. The very last.

It was difficult for Grendel to feel as if he had anything to fear, because his entire life(?) there was really only one thing that he did fear, and nothing seemed like it could be worse. He could feel that Ravnos was unhappy, could sense his worry, and yet he didn't know what he could do to make that feeling ease. While the God may not be afraid, he couldn't promise he would be fine. He didn't want that promise to end up being a lie. He wouldn't back down from this, because he would not allow his domain to be decimated. Not on his watch. Not ever. He was set on his decision, and all he could do was hold his silence, an indication that the topic really was not up for discussion.

He was glad when Ravnos reopened the book without argument. He didn't want to fight with him. He just wanted answers.

The answers he got were not what he wanted. He grit his teeth and fought the urge to grab the book to fling it across the room. For several long moments, he was silent, mulling over this new information.

He could only see two options. Either try and go after whatever was killing vampires without the aid of a weapon, or try to make a deal with those who he held in the most contempt.

Finally, he spoke. "We are finished here. I will need to think about this. He let his hand drop from where he had rested it, taking a step back toward the exit.
