61-70: You're fishing with a pole today, standing on the small floating dock. You see the bobber go under, and pull up hard. Sure enough, there's a whopper at the end of the line. It's a fight, and you can tell you've snagged the largest packtail you've ever seen. Unfortunately you yank too hard and the line snaps. Not only is your pole now useless, but the big one gets away. Worse, your fishing luck the rest of the sevenday seems to follow suit... You wind up with a whole lot of nothin'. -10 points
Really, how hard could fishing be? J'hcre was all too ready to bring back a fine haul to show off, fighting with the biggest packtail he'd seen in his life... annnnnd the line snapped after he gave it a particularly fierce tug. Even after he managed to get it fixed, it seemed like that packtail had been a bad omen. His luck wasn't much better for the rest of the sevenday.........

Fish! Garganth declared happily, watching as his rider hauled in a net filled with sparkling silverfish. "Fish." M'lus agreed, looking over his catch with an air of satisfaction. These would cook nicely, and with good fortune, they'd be able to restock the Weyr's larders soon.

Was it technically fishing if she was just scooping up spiderclaws instead? Aurizore wasn't sure, but given the amount of them she was able to pick up, she didn't think anyone would mind. Grinning widely, she hoisted up a particularly large spiderclaw to show Dalsath, who rumbled her approval from the shore. This would surely make at least a little dent in their deficit, right?

If you didn't insist on acting like a brute and instead tried a touch of finesse, that wouldn't have happened. Loaeth pointed out smugly to his cursing rider. "That would have been the biggest packtail that Pern's ever seen!" B'nar lamented. "Nearly snapped the pole clean in half!" Maybe an exaggeration. Maybe.

Fishing wasn't something Pr'gal had spend a lot of time doing, but he'd tried it before. He'd tried a lot of things before, so why should fishing be any different. throw a line into the water, try not to catch any other human's lip or ear or other fleshy bits, and pull fish back to shore. Rinse, Repeat. It was probably luck, It didn't matter, It was food.

Quote:
1-10. You don't know exactly what happened, but somehow you have wound up tangled up in a fishing net, out in the middle of the ocean. You thrash around and try hard to free yourself, but all you wind up doing is breathing in the salt-water. Thankfully, you're fished out by your fellows, untangled from the net, and dragged back to shore. Outside of being a little traumatized, roll a D4 to see what the results of your poor fishing happened to be! Your net was torn and will require some patching, using up some of the Weyr's supplies. Any fish that might have been caught in it are now free to swim another day, and you bring in nothing for the day. Outside of wounded pride, and wet clothes, you're fine to continue fishing another day. [-5 points]
V'di was not proud of himself in this moment. He wasn't exactly sure how it had happened, but he'd tripped himself up while casting his net--as far as he could tell, he'd accidentally managed to get it snagged on his boot or something, and it had dragged him right into the water along with the rest of it when it was actually thrown. On the plus side, he wasn't alone, and got help rather quickly--but on the downside, he wasn't alone. Eugh. Everybody absolutely saw that.

Haseya was more than a little surprised at her own luck when she pulled a net full of fish, but she certainly wouldn't pass them up! Fantastic. Maybe we can hide them under someone's pillow? Ahigath offered slyly. "I think people would prefer to eat them, dear." She smiled with amusement at her green who was lounging nearby, observing with mild interest.

Xeothine was livid the entire time she was being pulled out of the water. It was bad enough that she'd made such a mistake in the first place, but to have cost the weyr some supplies to fix her error on top of that? She was seething in no uncertain terms, even as she slipped away to go get checked over by the healers.

Shillouroth was openly fretting about the state of the Weyr, and it was all C'tyl could do to soothe her. If they were able to fish up their supplies, they didn't need to ask anyone for aid! So... here he was, doing his best to fish for his dinner, so to speak. Except the first big bite he got, he overestimated the strength of the line and gave a mighty tug--only to nearly fall in the water when it unexpectedly snapped.

91-100: You decide to take a chance not on the water, but by hunting and scavenging on the beach itself. It seems to be successful! +5 points. Oh-ho! You're in luck! You wind up finding some sea wherry and manage to hunt one down successfully! Thank Faranth--some real meat that isn't fish! Gain an extra +5 points.
After watching so many people tumble into the ocean based on net casts alone, K'ino decided that he might have better luck trying something a little different. The beach was right there, after all, and had plenty of life on it--he even managed to take down a few sea wherry with some careful hunting, leaving him feeling rather satisfied about his choice. Good thinking. I'm sure someone will appreciate having a little variety in the meat choices after all this.
