"Yes, I'm sure," Alexandra reassured Marx before she glanced over at Comet who, like his trainer, was waiting for their opponent to be sent out, and once he was she had to keep herself from squealing. Those big, opaque eyes, those stubby legs, that tail~! Amaura were truly adorable little dinosaurs. She managed to keep her composure about her and instead turned her attention to Marx, prepared to ask him if he was ready; though a quick look over at him told her all she needed to know. He wasn't ready, he was distracted.
"Marx, you need to pay attention," Alexandra reminded him. She didn't want him to get distracted again and fail to command his pokemon. When he had put his phone away she governed him ready to begin and turned to look at her own pokemon. "Comet, use Wing Attack!" she commanded and watched as her avian-like pokemon swept past Amaura, diving low enough so that his extended wing battered the little dinosaur in his face. He quickly righted himself and pulled himself up back up into the sky, mentally preparing for Marx/Amaura's retaliation.

Marx shrugged, smiling. Well, alright! If she was sure! He was still kind of confused. He pouted a bit when she chided him to pay attention, and stuffed his device away. It was hard to concentrate! But, he needed to focus. Clapping his hands together, he watched as the Staravia struck out. It didn't seem to do much damage. "Hmm... Oh! I should probably see what your moves are, Amaura!" he remarked, pulling out his pokedex. He was lucky he had that-- he was luckier that it described what the moves actually did. "Hmm..." He spent a good minute or so tapping his chin and looking it over, then straightened up, grinning.
"Go ahead and use Icy Wind, Amaura! And And then follow up with Powder Snow!" he urged. That Staravia was pretty fast, after all. Might as well slow it down. Of course, if he hadn't just read over the moves and what they did, he probably wouldn't have thought of that... but he got one fluke-ish good luck moment per battle, it seemed.

The typing proved to be a real disadvantage for her, especially considering the fact that Comet only had normal and flying type moves, she'd have to update his moves soon. Speaking of moves, Alexandra watched as Marx took out his pokedex so that he could check Amaura's moveset, it was a bit odd to think that he didn't know his own pokemon's moves; but then again, this was Marx she was talking about. At the very least it looked as if he was actually considering what moves to use, giving his chin a tap as he poured over the information.
Alexandra blinked when a chilled wind blasted across the battlefield, effectively slowing down Comet and leaving him open for Amuara to attack a second time. Once the snow had fallen and begun to melt on the sand Alexandra turned to look at Comet, who had been heavily effected by the double attack. Was it bad... that she felt such pride? Marx was learning, sure he'd needed to defer to his pokedex, but still... the strategy! "Comet, use Endeavor, then follow it up with Quick Attack," she instructed and watched as her pokemon shook off the snow that coated his wings before he moved in to attack.

Marx was totally paying attention. Totally. He certainly wasn't momentarily distracted by his holo caster going off. Nope. He didn't pull it out and check the message or anything!
... Okay, yes he did. At least upon realizing it, he quickly stuffed it away to avoid another lecture from Alex. And to distract himself from trying to reply to Cheria or check his message again, he quickly threw his hands behind his head and laced his fingers over his pokedex, pressing the device to the back of his head as he watched the battle with slightly wide eyes. As Alex finished, though, his arms dropped to his sides and he deflated a bit. With just two attacks, Amaura looked totally beat up. The pokemon had looked like it'd taken the blows well, but... in the blink of an eye, it was suddenly on its last legs. And without any super effectiveness! ... Or was endeavor super effective?
"Whoa, Amaura, how's you get so low on health already?" he asked, a bit distraught as he pulled up his pokedex. He wished he could check his opponent's moves... Oh well! "U-uhm... Go ahead and used Rock Throw!" he decided. Amaura, who was looking back at him in annoyance at the comment, turned. He braced himself, then lunged forward, catapulting several rocks at his opponent. At least that would hopefully be the end of that...

Alexandra raised an eyebrow at Marx when he looked over at his holo caster, though she held her tongue to keep from commentating. He was just easily distracted, she couldn't fault him for that. Besides, at the moment she had more concerning things to worry about. She bit her bottom lip as one final attack sent her pokemon falling to the ground, unconscious. She'd never had a pokemon faint before, now that she thought about it, and it didn't sit well with her. But, this was her own fault. She'd sent Comet out against an opponent he'd been weak against.
"Comet used Endeavor," Alexandra explained as she returned Comet, her thumb gliding over his capsule. "It's a move that lowers the opponent's health to match the user's, it's rather useful considering it isn't effected by type resistance." She turned her head around, ready to send out her next pokemon, only to quickly whip it back around in the opposite direction as Obsidian streaked forward. Without a single command he lunged forward, burrowing his teeth into Amaura's leg.

Marx blinked and tilted his head as Aelx explained. Endeavor? Huh.... That seemed kinda handy! Wait, whoa... had she been planning on using that? Was that why she was okay with the type disadvantage and everything?? That was pretty incredible, if so... He crossed an arm over his chest and raised the other up to place his hand on his chin in a thoughtful pose. "Huh... I wonder what other pokemon can learn that move!" he mused curiously. He shook his head, though, to try and refocus on the battle at hand.
Placing his hands on his hips, he watched her pokemon fall, but before he could congratulate Amaura, before he could return him, thinking that was the end of their first match, Alex's pokemon suddenly bolted forward, attacking Amaura. The ice pokemon whinnied in surprise and tried to rear back, grimacing as he was bitten hard. Marx, meanwhile, stumbled back, his eyes wide before he quickly regained his footing and threw his hands forward. "H-hey! Wait!" Too late. Amaura landed, wavered, then collapsed, brought down by the attack. Marx deflated, looking at his pokemon. He... had thought they were just doing three one on one matches...
But apparently not. "Um, good job, Amaura..." he mumbled, feeling a bit bad over the outcome. He recalled the pokemon and put the pokeball away, looking at Alex's pokemon uncertainly. He wasn't really sure what to use against it... "Uh... Litwick, why don't you go?" he suggested, looking down to the pokemon. The ghost's flame flickered, the blue glow turning green for a moment, then returning. His eyes narrowed and he turned his body, just slightly, to set his beady little stare on his trainer. Marx blinked a few times, looking back at him. Clearly, he didn't see the rather... obvious problem.
Luckily, he did seem to catch on, though, and turned pleadingly to his starter. "Basil?" he squeaked out. The grovyle sighed, but uncrossed his arms and stepped forward. He got down, ready to fight, then launched forward in an attack.

"Hm. I don't know actually, that'll be something to check on," Alexandra replied thoughtfully. That was a good question, and it briefly distracted the young scientist from the battle as she pondered the idea. She was brought back to the battle, rather quickly too, when Obsidian darted forward to attack and caused both Amaura and Marx to cry out. Amaura's was to no surprise, it was painful what with her own pokemon's unnecessary violence, but the former's was. "Marx, are you alright?" she asked, concerned, and turned her head to watch as Obsidian trotted back towards her, obviously pleased with himself. She'd have to talk to him about both his impatience and force.
Obsidian, unaware of the reprimand coming his way, watched through slit eyes as Marx tried to get one of his pokemon out to battle, the candle looking one, and snapped his jaws experimentally. Unlike its trainer, however, it knew far better than to go against him and in its place another was sent out. Alexandra who understood Litwick's hesitance, couldn't help but purse her lips. "Marx, Obsidian knows Bite, as you saw, which is a dark type move. Litwick has a disadvantage against dark-types," she did her best to explain, and could only hope that it would be information that would stick with the boy and prove useful in upcoming battles.
She bit her bottom lip when Obsidian was hit, even if it wasn't as effective, though any concern she might have tried to voice was drowned out by the guttural growl Obsidian let loose afterwards. Alexandra shook her head, his behavior had certainly changed ever since his evolution. "Obsidian, use--""Mawile! Mawile! Maw~" (Go Basil, go Basil, go Basil! Go!) Alexandra stopped mid-sentence--though it wasn't really as if she'd been given much of a choice--and turned her body to look at the pokemon who'd interrupted her. Though it wasn't much of a surprise, the brunette found herself looking to Xion, who had turned into a cheerleader, hopping about and waving her arms wildly. She stopped, rather quickly, when she felt ten pairs of eyes on her and ducked her head down before murmuring an apology. It seemed she'd gotten a tad too excited.
What was with her pokemon.... Alexandra, deciding to ignore it, turned back around to the battlefield. "Obsidian, use Slash," she tried again, this time actually able to get the command out. Obsidian shook his fur out and rolled his shoulders, getting over the disruption, before he shot forward to dole out the attack.

Marx rubbed the back of his neck with a bit of a sheepish smile at Alexandra's question. "H-heh, y... yeah, sorry. I just didn't realize we were doing a sorta... continuous battle..." he admitted, then glanced off to the side. "Woulda returned Amaura otherwise..." he mumbled off inaudibly. Shaking his head, though, he tried to focus back on the battle, but luckily his distraction wasn't infectious, and Basil was already handling things. Well, sort of. He'd attacked, but it clearly hadn't done a lot of damage. But, he knew the pokemon had just used a dark attack. So then... hmm.... What type was it? He narrowed his eyes, but quickly bowed his head to brace himself for the attack.
Just before, he thought he heard a familiar voice-- and as Obsidian backed off, he looked up, spotting Xion. He wasn't able to really acknowledge the cheering, though... some part of him was smiling at it. Instead he had to focus on the battle, and dropped his gaze to the opponent. Then... promptly darted back towards Marx. "Gro," he demanded. Marx blinked and looked back at his pokemon. "... Huh?" He scrunched up his face a bit in confusion.
Basil stared in annoyance, then reached back, grabbing his pokedex from behind his head, and knocking his cranium with it as he pulled it over. "Ow!" Marx rubbed at the spot with a frown, but watched as Basil pointed the device at Obsidian, shaking it and messing with it until it read out the pokedex entry. So it was a ground fighting type, huh... Okay! That was easier! Tossing the device back at Marx, who's eyes widened as he fumbled to catch it, Basil darted forward. This time, he was sure his move would do much more damage.
Meanwhile, Marx scrambled not to let his pokedex fall, sighing with relief as he caught it. Lifting his head, he looked at Alex. Hadn't she been saying something earlier? "What was that about Litwick again?" he asked. Of... course...

Alexandra blinked at Marx's explanation before she raised an index finger to her bottom lip. "Oh, I apologize Marx, I should've explained our battle more thoroughly." She had only assumed that Marx had been aware of that, since that was the more common battle, but the saying about 'assuming' did have a layer of truth to it. She felt bad, because she'd failed to inform him properly he hadn't been as prepared, and Marx was never fully prepared for most things in the first place. There was nothing she could do about it though, at least now, and instead of fretting over it she turned back to the battle.
By now Xion had become as quiet as a church-Dedenne, but she still offered her support, except this time it was to her own teammate. There was a bit of respite, what with Basil backing off to... assault his trainer, and in that time Obsidian stalked the sand, his claws digging into the individual grains. He waited for, what was in his book, far too long before the Grovyle returned, and with a move that was much more effective than the last one. It left the Meleeon stumbling on his paws, and out for revenge. He didn't wait for Alexandra to give a command and instead simply went on ahead, attacking with the same move, only this time adding a bit more ferocity to it.
Alexandra turned to look at Marx when he essentially asked her to repeat the information she'd given him earlier on Litwick. She heaved a sigh and just barely held back from rubbing her temples. "Litwick is weak against dark-types, keep that in mind when you use it in battle."

He blinked when Alex repeated her advice, giving a slow nod as he seemed to consider this. "And that... attack your pokemon used against Amaura, Bite, was a dark type, right?" At least he was putting the pieces together. And/or remembering what he 'didn't hear'. Or just recalling some basic information he had managed to absorb at some point.
Either way, Basil was at least handling the actual battling part, so he didn't have to focus on that, at any rate.

At least Marx had forgiven her, even shouldering some of the blame on their miscommunication. That wasn't surprising, considering that Marx was a rather benevolent person, what was, however, was the fact that the older male had actually managed to retain some portion of information, and even relayed it to her to make sure it was correct. "Right," she confirmed and even gave a solid nod. Her attention was torn from their side-conversation when Obsidian fell, though managed to give a final growl before his knees buckled and then gave out. Alexandra returned her pokemon without a word, that made two pokemon that'd now fainted, but the moment was saved from being completely soured when she realized that this would be a learning opportunity for both herself and her pokemon, for Obsidian especially, she hoped that he'd now learned not to simply rush into battles.
Siemens, who was a far more patient pokemon than his teammate, quietly scuttled onto the field, a small, bright yellow spot on a giant expanse of land, and once settled in reared up on a few of his back-legs and gave a might squeak, the ends of his belt fluttering heroically in the passing breeze.
Ah, he really was adorable! Just an absolutely precious pokemon~

Alexandra couldn't help but to smile when Siemens continued to stand strong, even after taking a hit from a pokemon several times his size. Of course, she didn't play favorites, that would only prove to be counterproductive in her training, but there something endearing to be found in a tiny pokemon with large determination. "Use Cross Poison, Siemens," she instructed, and couldn't hide her relief when he not only waited for a command but actually followed through with it. He gave a mighty leap, clearing the sand and attaching himself firmly onto Basil's stomach before he attacked. It was a far more powerful attack than even Alexandra expected, and there was a moment when the young brunette's eyes widened in surprise before she composed herself.

Marx laced his fingers behind his head as Basil seemed to take care of the battle, but his eyes widened and his arms dropped when Siemens suddenly attacked and immediate took out Basil. Basil, on the other hand, had looked down at the pokemon in surprise, and then lurched back at the attack, eyes spiraling as he lost his balance and promptly collapsed. "Gro!" He landed on his back, very much out of it, and Marx quickly darted forward. "Basil!" No way! He didn't remember ever seeing the grovyle go down! They hadn't exactly done a lot of battling, but still!
Basil managed to regain his senses a bit, but rather than try to get up, simply stared irritably up at the sky, ignoring his trainer as he dropped down beside him. "A-are you okay...?" Marx asked worriedly, hands held up, ready to help, without knowing what to do. "Grooovyle..." Basil muttered in response. Marx blinked a few times, looking concerned, but then sighed, returning Basil and climbing to his feet. He looked worriedly at Alex's pokemon. "That thing is strong..." he commented, moving back to where he stood before.
He looked down at LItwick, who was staring dully ahead. "Um... You're turn, Litwick," he urged, and the pokemon scuttled ahead. Before promptly launching a Will-O-Wisp attack of its own initiative.

Siemens gave a might squeak of victory once he'd taken down Basil, rearing up once more to mightily punch the air. Needless to say, he was excited about his victory. Xion, however, was... less than pleased. When a rather, dramatic, gasp became audible Alexandra didn't need to turn around to know that it was her Mega Mawile who'd made the sound. She did, though, and quirked an eyebrow at the wide-eyed pokemon, her hands clasped over her mouth. The trainer got the distinct feeling that, if she hadn't been looking at her, her own pokemon would've rushed off to check on opposing pokemon. Some part of her found it endearing, her pokemon's loyalty and overall friendship with Basil was obvious. Still though... this was a battle, and both she and Marx were down to one pokemon.
Alexandra turned back around just in time to watch Marx return his starter and usher in his last pokemon, Litwick. This would be tricky, once again she was at a type disadvantage, but she was still confident in her pokemon's ability, she'd just have to play it safe. "Cross Poison," she commanded and once more Siemens scuttled forward, though he was smart enough not to actually attach himself to the candle. He rolled away after his attack, but not before he received a burn. "Again." The tips of front-legs began to glow a dark purple before he crossed them, executing an attack in a perfect 'X'.
