I think you're thinking of
The Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks (son of Mel!). Its funny in that they treat it completely straightfaced through out. A lot of the tips are useful, even WITHOUT the threat of zombies.

World War Z elaborated on some of the points he made in the survival guide, but it lacks both the humor of the original book, and a lot of the visceral horror and thrills that draw people to zombie films. But its at least vaguely interesting.
