Dark wide open spaces
Flicker of headlights and lamps pierce the black sea
Thundering trucks pull next to each side
Watch the lane, dont hit me
Hands go numb from gripping tight
How many more miles left to go
Illumination from side shows scattering the strip
But the lights are just my foe
30 more I whisper under my breath
A mantra of determination and will
Past the city limits, slowing down
Still so many miles still

All that I have been working to save has fallen,
The peace you sought, your soulmate, an end to all of the pain,
It's done.
All that I have before me are questions left unanswered and the lingering bitter taste of words left unsaid.
Because there is no need that you are dead.
So with all that I have been given in your many years, I will promise to do good and continue the light you lit
