Name: Vænnsinni Meaning: Beautiful Host in Old Norse
Colorist: Safaia Obtained: Breeding Contest (December 2012) Death in November 2026 Seer: No
Father: Njal (wooga Paes) Mother: Akatta Blålågor (Mogami) Siblings: Naaja (Princess_Feylin), Thora (ChexaRain), Bruten (tandimonium), Soturi (Mogami), Njord (wooga Paes), Heidrún (L1m3_gr33n_sh4rp13), Niklas (Hopefolly)
Mate: None Offspring: None
Pride: Myrsky Syntynyt Rank: Freeborn
Personality: Vænn is every bit the proper lady her mother raised her to be. She shows no interest in fighting and takes a great deal of pleasure out of micromanaging every little detail of the lives surrounding hers. The little details that go into managing a household never cease to thrill her, and she won't hesitate to give an incompetent Thrall a good tongue lashing for fumbling a task. Beneath her fur lies the heart of a strict disciplinarian - room for error doesn't exist in her presence. If she can't do a task perfectly in a timely fashion, she believes she has no reason to be doing it in the first place. After all, why should she strive for anything less than perfection? Failure won't do her any good and she refuses to accept it in herself, even if it means pushing herself to her limits.

Name: Khanda Meaning: Broken in Sanskrit
Colorist: JetAlmeara Colorist: Contest (June 2013) Death in June 2025 Seer: No
Father: Tanusatya Mother: Jamala Siblings: None
Mate: None Offspring: None
Pride: Kizingo'zaa Rank: Story Seeker Muse: Storms
Personality: On an average day and without the influence of the Cave of Muses, the two things that define Khanda are that she is nonverbal and almost completely unresponsive to the world around her. In this state she is almost childlike in her naivety and entirely dependent on the generosity of others. Sadly there isn't much to be said besides this, for her introversion is so extreme that there really isn't much there to be seen. Under the influence of the curse, however, she completely transforms into a vivacious and engaging lioness. She dances as best she can, and often "speaks" to the Muses she hears. In this state she loves socializing and will often go out of her way to speak to her fellow pridemates simply to see what's going on beyond her little self-appointed safe zone - namely the area blessed by Muhali. She remembers little of why she doesn't venture outside it, except that it is bad and feels wrong.
History: She was the only cub her parents ever bore, and in many ways that's where the trouble for her family began. She was a difficult cub, not because she was contrary but because she was almost completely unresponsive. It seemed the only time her parents could ever get a reaction out of her was when they touched her unexpectedly - physical contact would get her throwing fits very quickly and with very little warning. A simple grooming session could take her from silent and withdrawn to screaming and lashing out in seconds.
It was perplexing for her parents, and her father often blamed her mother for it. She had not been a young lioness when she'd born the cub, and he blamed her age for their broken daughter. Her mother would balk at the term - as if a living being could ever be called broken - but unfortunately the term stuck in her father's mind. Behind her mother's back he would spit the name "Khanda" at her as an insult, and the name stuck. As much as her mother had wished to call her blessed, broken had been her father's first act of spite.
It wouldn't be the last.
Khanda grew up watching her parents fight - her mother who loved her unconditionally and her father who resented her for being born as she was. It wasn't uncommon for her mother to nurse wounds as often as she nursed her daughter, and it seems as time went on her father's resentment only grew. While he could get away with what he did to her mother, the lion was certain a single mark on his daughter would see him mauled and chased off. So he left marks in other ways.
While her mother was away hunting, her father would assault her with scathing words - insults that burrowed deep into the young cubs mind and only caused her to withdraw further. She was defective. She was tearing the family apart. She should never have been born. Didn't she see how miserable she made her mother? Why couldn't she just be normal?
The words ate away at her throughout her life, and as she grew things only seemed to get worse. Her father wanted her gone as soon as she was old enough to fend for herself, but her mother insisted she stay. Her poor daughter wouldn't ever be self sufficient. She needed her family. It was an argument repeated ad nauseam as she grew, until her father at last decided she was old enough and it was time to be rid of her.
Against her mother's wishes - and behind her back - he marched his daughter away from the den site and chased her off. Khanda fled, but kept in mind the route home. Under the cover of night she snuck back to the den in the hopes of being welcomed back by her mother, not knowing the chain of events doing so would unleash. She came back to her father claiming he'd tried to teach his daughter how to hunt, for when they would no longer be around to care for her, and that she'd been struck in the head by a wildebeest and died instantly. Her mother was stricken - right until she spotted her daughter's face by the entrance of the den.
This was the last straw. Furious, she told her mate to leave and never come back. If he couldn't love their daughter as she did, he no longer had a place in the family. Rather than leave peacefully and end things at that, he lashed out. The resulting fight ended quickly, for Khanda's mother was older and though she was still fit to hunt, she was not fit to fight. Her father went straight for his mate's throat and killed her with a single blow, and then he whirled on his daughter - still cowering in the entrance to the den.
He laid the blame on her, claiming that her mother's death was her fault. If she'd only stayed gone they could have finally been happy. And without her mother there to stop him, he turned on her with violence too. He didn't kill her swiftly, as he had the dead lioness in the den. He mauled her and when his rage had finally been sated, left her for dead. It was only luck that saved her. A traveling healer happened upon the den and took it upon herself to nurse the battered lioness back to health.
Her recovery was long, and while she no longer screamed at the slightest physical contact as she had as a cub, Khanda had withdrawn even farther into herself. Her spirit had been so thoroughly battered that the healer thought she might never truly recover. The injuries had left her with a permanent limp and very nearly mute from a bite to the throat that would have killed her had fate not intervened. Even though she lived, the scars would linger for the rest of her life.
It was chance that she and the healer met with Besnik's group, and his promises of peace and a loving home completely captivated her. Her energy and the spark of life inside her began to return, and finally she parted ways with the healer who'd saved her life to join the others following Besnik on their way to the Kizingo'zaa.
