Schwartz's door was open a crack and the sweet sounds of a violin could be heard leaking out from within. The instrument was hovering in the air and playing itself while the sorcerer stood nearby. He had a book in one hand, and when not reading the pages before him he'd wander around the instrument and seem to watch it intently, as though studying the tiny movements the bow and strings made as it played itself.

Charity soon found Schwartz's chamber door slightly ajar, and from the sound of music soon came to the obvious conclusion. Still, entering a man's chambers without asking or being invited beforehand was rude. So, to announce her presence, she knocked on the wall beside his door. "May she speak with him?"

The music suddenly stopped as Schwartz snatched the violin from the air. "Come in." he said as he returned the violin and his book to their respective shelves.

Charity entered once invited, gently shutting the door behind her before approaching Schwartz with the book. Once she found the page she was looking for, she pointed out a passage describing some components of fire magic. What confused her was that, despite ice being naturally weaker to fire, a weaker fire spell could potentially be dismantled by a more powerful ice spell. "Power aside, fire is supposed to hold the advantage over ice. Why doesn't it just have a vastly stunted effect versus being overpowered?" It was funny how seriously she seemed to be taking this, and how otherwise lucid she sounded. Just yesterday she made a massive scene, reaffirming to nearly all that she was just a raving loon.

"Because even magic is bound to the laws of nature to a certain degree." Schwartz explained as he pulled his chair around from his desk to take a seat. "Create a fire in a cold environment and it won't last as long as it would had you made it in a normal environment. And while a small fire may melt a great block of ice, what water is in turn created can put it out in the end. Magic can create and change the world, but it is ultimately not absolute. I'd keep that in mind."

The mad woman's eyes lit up in understanding. "Ah! She shall keep that in mind. Thank you." Hearing that magic wasn't absolute was somehow comforting to her. It meant that maybe, someday, she might possibly be free from her curse. Then again, it was best not to make such assumptions. Still, this made her wonder. "Does that mean that magic, no matter how powerful, can be dispelled - even if the idea is improbable?"

Schwartz gently nodded his head. "Every curse and spell has an opposite." he said folding his arms. "A light spell is countered by a blanket of darkness, a fireball extinguished by a jet of water, and every curse holds a way to remove it. Of course, this is only true if you know some of the details of the spell that was cast, and curses are tricky as they are often custom tailored to the caster and victim."

Charity expected difficulty, but the thought that she might one day figure a method to free herself of her predicament without resorting to certain unsavory methods was the most uplifting thing she had heard in possibly years. "A tricky chance is better than no chance." she replied, grinning from ear to ear. She had all the time she would ever need, and if she worked hard, maybe she really could finally be free. Maybe she could finally die for good. "A final question, if he would indulge her. What does he know of demonic curses and plagues? How difficult are they usually to dismantle, even under an experienced hand?" This went beyond the fundamentals, but the look in her eyes made it clear that this was important to her.

"Curses of a demonic nature, hm?" Schwartz put a finger to his chin, crossed his legs, and turned his eyes upward in thought. "I suppose you could say I've dabbled in them here and there. Nasty buggers; easy to have them backfire on you if you don't know what you're doing, especially when trying to remove them." he then returned his gaze to Charity. "I think I know where this is going, and without at least knowing who did that to you, I'm not making the slightest attempt at undoing your little curse."

Charity gave a giggle, much akin to those freely given during a manic episode, as she shook her head. "Oh! No no, no need for that. It is enough to know that it is possible. She wouldn't dare ask for more." Not of one also under the Coward's thumb, anyway. As much as she was starting to enjoy Schwartz's company, she did not yet trust him to that extent. He would know nothing until the Master was dead or the Disturbed Sorcerer's loyalty was sufficiently broken. Otherwise, what made her think he wouldn't just tell the Coward for some just reward? No no, no need for that. She would keep her own council, as she always has.

Schwartz shook his head with an amused little smile. "Weren't you listening? Even if I wanted to help, I wouldn't be able to. I don't know a thing about your curse or the sorcerer who did it. I'm teaching you magic to be self-sufficient, I never said I'd do your curse removal for you. I wouldn't want to screw up and get the same curse myself."

The mad woman gave yet another snicker, pleased nonetheless to hear him say so. If she had her way, he probably never would know anything of her curse beyond what he already did. "Ah! Silly waif, to overlook that detail. Still, she has no intention on letting others do what she must do for herself. Even if he could, this is something that she wants to earn and accomplish on her own. She would not ask for help even if he were willing - or able - to grant it in that regard." she tried to clarify, her spirits still high from the revelation he'd given her. "Ah! But she is rambling. Apologies, sorcerer, for her running mouth."

"Is there anything else?" Schwartz sighed wearily, her chipper energy already starting to wear on him. He couldn't stand her when she was acting insane, he couldn't stand her when she was fearing someone's wrath, and he couldn't stand her when she was bright and happy. Schwartz had to compliment the master on his ability to tolerate her in the slightest, and had he been in charge he likely wouldn't keep her around if all she could do was not die.

"A warning. The master is getting antsy again, which means work or a tantrum. Be prepared for either." With that, Charity turned away and began heading for the door. Her tone was matter of fact, and perhaps a little uncaring. Then again, she was just backup and/or a distraction - so she highly doubted she would end up doing much on a job anyway.

"When isn't he antsy?" Schwartz said as he rested his chin on one hand. "I'll be glad when he does snap, as he might actually follow through with all his hollow threats he throws my way and let me use the full extent of my powers." he turned his eyes towards Charity. "Let it be known I shan't be teaching you any majorly powerful spells like I know; anything strong enough to require a full incantation is off the table."
