Pandorus Sphinx

The distraction from above was a godsend for Kaoru. He was in pain, but, at least the crazy female's claw was no longer in his eye socket.

He cried out when he felt claws dig into his neck. Oh woe, here it was. The end.

But it never came. Instead, the red male was pulling him to his feet, urging him to move. There was pain everywhere, and fear that before him was only blackness. Adrenaline was the only thing keeping him moving as the Outlander male whispered words to him, urging him to continue. Kaoru stumbled along the way, keeping his shoulder near the other's body as, what Kao could only assume, they left the battlefield.

---

Atama growled as the other assaulted one of their own. Not just their own, but a child nonetheless. While he would never express his gratitude for the firekin taking the step to get him out, Ata felt the slightest relief. Children, no matter their growing size, should not be here. It was not their place, yet, Ata was at the front line letting him go.

He injuries were his responsibility. Not as much as what Ebbe was probably reeling. The stoic Claw waited near the Crowned Prince. His mouth formed a fine line, as a small sneer lifted.

Atama rolled his eyes, shifting back as Kadaj aimed for the female. He couldn't let the male have all the fun now, could he?

The red lion took a moment to lunge at a free spot towards Maya. She wanted to hurt their own, well she'd best buckle up and prepare herself.

It had been a mistake to come out on this viking.

Nariikhan had realized it too late that she had no desire to fight and pillage. The idea of dirtying her claws made her stomach churn, and how some of her sisters had stomached this sort of thing was beyond her ability to comprehend. The young lioness had not even come out this far with any real intention to prove herself. There was a boy she fancied. If she could prove herself to be a capable lioness, perhaps his gaze would finally turn her way?

Admittedly, she knew little of the male except that he was handsome. His purple coat, perfect and pristine. The bright colors were appealing to her, and that was all that Nariikhan needed to start building a fantasy life for herself and the male. She hadn't even gotten the courage to ask his name yet, but surely by the end of this she would find out!

Nariikhan wasn't like her siblings - she wasn't one of the twin seers who hung close to Zjarri'fol's side, nor was she fit for being a reaver. She was just a girl who fancied a boy, and thought that the best way to impress him was to beat someone up.

So she picked someone who looked too old to be out on the battlefield, an old man protecting a prince. Oh, a prince did sound exciting, but not nearly as much as the male she fancied now. "Go away, geezer," she hissed at the red and gold male. Killing a prince was a far more worthy endeavor than him, but perhaps he would be enough to make her noticeable? With a small snarl, she launched herself at Jiryan, clawing at his flank.

They had been alone for so long.

Kaburi found no shame in being rogue born, but her life had been very lonely because of it. The only meaningful connections she had made during her short life were with her siblings and though she loved them dearly, there had always been a yearning in her heart; a desire to be a part of something more. The pale lioness knew she was not the only one within her family that felt that way, for one reason or another, most of them felt the calling or pride life - for companionship, for status, for purpose alike.

They had been trailing the Viking for some time now, followed them across the land to a place that was characterized only by sand and redstone. She did not know why the strangers marched and could only speculate; though she assumed it must be important. The Stormborn seemed so organised, so very motivated to reach this far away land. Now they were here, she understood; war.

It had not taken them long to decide on their course of action; those of their family who wanted to seize this chance to be accepted into a group - they needed to act quickly. This was not her war, but this band of brothers could be her family. The Stormborn seemed to be willing and it was only natural to jump on the side of the victor.

Her bright pelt made her an obvious target against the landscape; throwing herself into the thick of things, there was nowhere to hide, nowhere to run. She needed to push forward, her brother by her side. She was smart enough to realise the crimson lion with the guard must be important, taking him - it was their ticket to acceptance. Their ticket to the home she had always wanted.

“This is our chance, Sinaan, help me!” She called to her brother. Nobody had challenged the older, rusty guard yet - so she would be his challenger. With her brother by her side, how could they fail? The bright lioness lunged forward, swiping for the male's throat - trying to distract him long enough to give her brother an opening.

His family were the only lions he knew, and with boyish wonder he had watched the organized march of the Stormborn through the roguelands. With his mane barely grown in, Sinaan would seem as green as his pelt showed to the more experienced lions. But, this was an opportunity that he could not allow to slip by. His family had started to drift apart, and the most motivated of their siblings had searched for homes of their own to belong to. It was a natural part of life, he imagined, this stage of yearning to belong to something. Being just the rogue son did not sit well with Sinaan.

Before he could lose another sibling to the winds, he would have her join him in this quest for a home. She had been the first to spot the viking, and after seeing what they were capable of they had kept a respectful distance from the group. They were not prizes to be captured. Rather, they could be warriors if that was what this pride needed them to be. It was clear, looking down upon the chaos, who the victor would be.

The side they should pick was clear, and with purpose they descended into the throes of battle. Sinaan was not yet completely grown, but his bulk was enough to push through the fighting and towards his sister's target. He would let her direct him, allow her to be the guiding paw that showed him the way to his future."I've got him!" he called out to Kaburi, letting her know that she would always have him at her side. He would defend her to the death, but he also had no intention of dying here.

With her sister going for Azzan's throat, Sinaan launched himself at Azzan's haunches, intending to use the momentum and his weight to drag the lion down into the red sands.

Chausika held on as long as she could, holding the lioness down with all the strength her small frame could muster; only loosening her grip when she heard the voice of the Prince above her. She stepped back then, her chest heaving as she watched the dark lioness fall to the ground after being struck. Silver eyes looked towards the royal - and then closed. It was over; Katiti had been avenged and the anger melted in her heart and left behind nothing but a hollow mourning. She was gone…

Her attention turned to the Guard then; or at least, the back of their heads. There was a lion wearing a white mane that she did not recognise, and the black that belonged to her mate. She should have felt safe, hidden behind the guard with the Prince - but she was not that naive. She knew the Prince would soon become the focus of the assault and her mate was expected to act as a wall between him and the enemy. She did not feel safe at all - instead there was apprehension.

She knew Azzan was one of the Pride’s most experienced warriors, but in that moment the fact offered her very little comfort.

In a blink of the eye the wave of Stormborn came, breaking their defences like waves on a cliff face. A pale female lunged for her husband - followed closely by a bright green male. Chau looked towards the Prince for a moment, knowing that she should stay where she was. In the end, she did not hesitate to defend Azzan. Chau had lost enough today - she had promised Mjrn that she would bring their family home.

”Azzan! Your left!” She called, trying to warn him about the green male’s attack - but her voice came too late. Instead the black lioness ran towards them, jumping over both males and colliding with the other female. The two lionesses rolled across the ground together, both fighting for the advantageous position.

Attacking Jiryan!

Altuna had made sure that Eiran found safety - the darker lioness was hidden away in the back of their ranks, safe and out of sight. Altuna was smart enough to know the Outlanders would be after her cousin, the young lioness that had delivered the final blow to Katiti. Eiran had found her glory in this battle - but Altuna was yet to prove herself. Once her cousin was safe and against Jupe’s advise, she made her way back to the battlefield to find her own honour..

Things had changed in a matter of moments, the tide of battle twisting and turning with each passing moment - altering the face of the war entirely. Their side had received a mighty blow with the loss of their captain - but victory was not lost. Altuna had her eyes on the prize, the Prince - all that protected him was his guard, two lions that seemed too old to be amongst the ranks. Young the Stormborn might be- but that was better than sending the ancient and infirm to battle.

It seemed like a great joke.

“Riikha. I am here!” The lavender lioness called out to her blood, taking her place by her cousins side. She had a lot of family within the Stormborn, she took great pride in the fact - and it was a privilege to fight alongside them. The smaller, paler lioness lunged towards the brighter guard - trying to jump onto his back.

Fear struck him harder than any opponent could when he realized that a lioness was aiming for his sister. He had seen the flash of black as the lioness jumped over him to tackle his sister, but Sinaan could not risk lifting his head and releasing his grip on Azzan to check on Kaburi's well being. "Kaburi!" Sinaan called out anxiously. He had to trust that she could hold her own against an opponent. It would be better for them both if he kept Azzan preoccupied, to keep the lion from teaming up with whatever lioness had appeared out of the blue.

While he did not question his teamwork with his sister, he felt they would be better off fighting their own battles here. He would take care of the red male, and she would take care of his partner. Sinaan was vastly younger than Azzan, and he hoped that would play to his favor. While he wasn't quite full grown, he had started to gain some size and power. He would hold Azzan back, keep him from rejoining his mate and attacking his sister.

With a deep growl, he hovered over Azzan and bit down onto his back leg. No matter how much Azzan swatted at him or beat at him, he would not let him go, not until he was sure that Kaburi was safe.

Nariikhan glanced back over her shoulder as a familiar voice called her by her nickname. She had seen Altuna on the battlefield, but thought that her younger relative had retreated from the fight with Eiran. While they weren't much younger than Nariikhan herself, at least the dark lioness thought that she could hold her own on the battlefield better than both. She did not want to say that she needed help, but at the same time help was not unwelcome. If her relative decided that she could not be kept back from the battle, then Riikha would just have to ensure that she didn't get too hurt.

And that she didn't steal all the glory from herself. She had a few more months yet before she tried courting strong males for marriage - she was not going to steal this prime opportunity for Riikha. "I can see that!" she called out, only mildly agitated to see the youth throwing herself back into the fight. She watched as Altuna jumped onto the elderly guard.

At least she would make a worthy distraction. With Jiryan focused on shaking the younger lioness off of his back, Riikha snuck in a heavy strike at his face, intending to impair the lion enough that he would have to retreat from the battle... or face death.

Kus’an was able to pull his face away from the male before the claw struck him; but could do nothing about the paws that kicked at his stomach. The smaller male was like a fish in his grip, squirming and slippery and pathetic. In the end, the male wriggled from his grasp - leaving Kus’an agitated beyond belief.

”Then stop running away!” He spat back at his opponent, matching towards him with the intent to end this scuffle and return to his father’s side. Kus’an was too focused on the Outlander to realise that the field was literally crumbling around them, and when he did it was too late.

He was used to the lakes of home when they froze over; he knew how to stand on cracking ice - cracking land was another thing altogether. His paws spread out to try and stable himself - but in the end it was his weight, the size he took so much pride in, that was his undoing. Then, Kus’an fell into the darkness.

The ground began to cave around them. "You idiot!" Hikaru hissed, because if he would have anyone to blame for his downfall, it was the dark stormborn brat. He had grown up on these lands, and he knew in general how the earth behaved when it moved. But, it was not entirely predictable, and though he tried to dodge out of the way he could feel the ground giving way underneath him.

Ku'san disappeared into the darkness below, swallowed up by the earth. Even the lands of the Ukuhlwa'Izwe were fighting for the Queen. Clearly, they just did not know they had also captured one of their own in its trap. Hikaru yelled out as the ground under his back legs crumbled away. He felt himself falling - there was no way he would be accepted as a great Ancestor if he died here, but what could he do?

Desperately he clawed at the ground in front of him, holding onto the barely-stable earth with all of his strength. His body dangled over the edge, and though his legs tried to press into the dirt walls and push himself up, he could not get good traction. He was stuck, and he was slipping. Soon enough he would join Kus'an in the dark unknown. The young male gritted his teeth, and did the only thing he knew to try now, "Please! Help!"

Eloquent Lunatic

Name: Attor
Attacking: Azzan
Roll One: 1 Damage

They were brave, Attor would give them that much, and they were loyal. That wasn't something he could necessarily say about many of the stormborn that had accompanied them on this outing. They would not fight tooth and nail for every lion in their band but that, he might argue, was the fault of these foolish Outlanders. They were a group driven by blood and glory and while they were not necessarily loyal to one another, they were loyal to their greed and their goals - today, it seemed, they had all aligned those upon the downfall of these proud, family-bound fools.

He sunk low as he watched groups of lions move to take down these guards protecting their prince while he aimed to slaughter the female, Calypso. He was not brave enough, himself, to take them on head-on; no, they were older than he and wiser in the field of battle besides. Yet there was a pair he did not recognize, rogues perhaps? They latched onto one male and delivered him a near-killing blow. As he struggled, Attor's wicked smile pulled into place and he dove forward to deliver a last, angry slash of claws against the orangey male's jawline.

With a growl, the male stared into Attor's wicked gaze with curiously bi-colored eyes, and then collapsed onto his belly.

Attor had no time to gloat, however.

Name: Telal
Attacking: Attor & Co
(No roll)

This was his first big battle.

Telal had always played at being a big, brave warrior even though he had chosen to go into a less blood thirsty occupation. He had even bragged of himself to the pretty, bronze-toned pridelander he had encountered near the borders. Yet, here, finally on a battle field where blood was running beneath his paws and staining their rosy sands a deep crimson, he could honestly say that he had never been prepared for something so horrendous as this.

Yet fear was no excuse. He listened to the words he had heard Azzan drill into his head over and over and over. Fear was not an excuse for abandoning his brothers and sisters in arms, it was not an excuse for cowering and fleeing from a fight. Courage was not the absence of fear but the willingness to act in the face of it. He growled and threw his shoulder into some silly adolescent that had squared up to him and found a moment of pleasure as they dropped, surprised, at his feet. Yet as his eyes rose, he saw something worse: the very male that had drilled him through his Unbranded trials again and again had collapsed and lay at the feet of a troupe of vicious attackers.

No.

Without question, Telal surged forward, releasing a roar from his jowls that he hoped would at least stun the lot of them. He wasted no time, plowing his shoulder so hard into the purple and pink male that he catapulted him backwards, throwing him into the ground. Then, he turned upon the pair of siblings with fire in his eyes.

"Chau!" he yelled, advancing still upon the pair, "get Azzan back to the Pride." At the end of the day, the Claw and Scion of Taka meant a lot more to them than he did.

---

Name: Daijur
Attacking: Jiryan
Roll Three: Four Damage

Daijur was impresed. This was a blood bath. Not only had they slaughtered a female touting a band's worth of treasure, they were spilling gore and hope across the lands. Ever since he had decided to make the pride his home he had failed to be disappointed by the battles they fought and the opportunities he was given to test his might. Even if his cubs, those unruly pests, had followed him and his mother out upon this Viking and caused him a bit more stress than he had hoped for, he could not even be disappointed. Not yet. The only thing that would have made it better was his best mate, that silly male Domeykite that had decided to stay behind lest his favorite thrall get stolen away.

It was silly but, he guessed, he would just have to earn enough glory for the both of them.

With that female's pendant wound carefully around his forepaw, Daijur strode proudly through the battle field. He stood a head above most lions here and it helped him see where he was needed and where they were faltering. For the most part, they all seemed to be doing just fine - they were a proud, strong pride after all. It was only Calypso, that foolish, loud-mouthed girl, that looked as if she might be at her breaking point. She had collapsed beneath the Prince and he was untouchable behind a pair of older, red and orange males.

Well, untouchable for now.

With a smirk on his jowl he stormed forward, past the girl that was calling names out at the red male. He was pleased to see that up close he was not much smaller than Daijur himself but even his size would not save him. He was bleeding, broken, and all it took was one last swipe of his own great claws along his flank to have the male collapsing onto his hind quarters. Another swipe met the side of his head and Daijur saw the whites of his eyes before he collapsed into a heap.

As he pulled back his paw, ready to end the fool's humiliated suffering, a dark female jutted her way between them.

Name: Kenina

"Touch him and I will rip your throat from your jaws. From my angle I can reach it pretty neatly." Her eyes were molten gold, filled with fury that sank into every syllable of her voice. Only, Kenny knew that she was not in tip-top shape: her belly hung low from recent cubs and her chest was swollen from having spent too long apart from them. This was a risk, squaring up to one of the strongest males she had seen in possibly her lifetime, but she would not have been a good daughter if she watched her father be slaughtered before her and did nothing to stop it.

Daijur grimaced with his paw paused in the air, taking in the sight of the female. Perhaps it was because his own foolish cubs were near him or perhaps it was because he just found no honor and glory in slaughtering such a weak, useless creature but suddenly he found his taste for blood had dulled. A sneer stretched across his face as he planted his foot again and narrowed his eyes upon her.

"You have half a breath to drag his half-dead carcass away from here or I will finish you both."

Because, in reality, he had done what needed to be done:

The Prince was vulnerable.

---

Name: Anu & Feroze
Attacking: Kethiwe (Fighting on behalf of the SB)
Roll Two & Four: Two Total Damage

On a rise nearby, a pair of rogue males watched the fight unfold. There was a grimace, per usual, stretched across Anu's blue mug while Feroze seemed as light hearted as ever.

"Seems like playtime has gotten a little messy today," the darker male touted, flipping his tail dismissively as they watched lion after lion square up to one another and trade claws. For the most part, it was hard to see who was who - there was an undeniable red and dusky tone to what Feroze assumed was one half of this battle while the others were any number of colors. It was too hard to decide who was fighting and over what, but they could see the center of this battle rather clearly, at least.

Three red males. One at the center, about to murder a lioness who looked.. oddly familiar to the pair of males for reasons they couldn't quite put a finger on. Feroze knew they had never seen her but she, oddly, reminded him of-

"Niruzu," the icy male at his side said, rather bluntly. "She must be his."

s**t, Feroze groaned, mentally. The old, grouchy male was not his favorite rogue in the world but he had helped them more times than he could count, even if he had bitched about it the whole time. Old rogues only had one another to count on, after all.

"I guess we ought to help," Feroze mumbled, not at all pleased by the idea of running into the middle of this, "at least her, right?" A part of him was hoping that Anu would disagree but as he turned to look at his solemn face, he knew that wouldn't. Anu had a righteous streak a mile wide and even now he was moving before he ever truly answered him.

In the end, the blue male simply grunted. Like always, Feroze fell into line beside him and barreled at the group ahead of them. They stormed past the fall guards and the others milling about them, straight to the dusky male that stood proudly over the female's unconscious body. The pair launched themselves in unison, plowing opposite shoulders cleanly into his chest, and sent him stumbling backwards in a tumble onto the ground.

With matching, stoic expressions, they planted themselves before Calypso.

Thalia was shocked their mistress could not be dying that was impossible, this was the lioness who had ordered Thalia to continue in her position as a spy to her and never question her again. How could it be that she was laying down there bleeding at the claws of these lions that Thalia did not know, she lowered her flight pattern. She had lost track of the other raven who had been flying with her, her eyes and ears only for the scream of her mistress. She could not understand what was happening. The Outlands was being covered in blood, what would become of there people? She started looking to see if any of the cubs were in danger. If they were going to be destroyed Thalia had to try and save something of the Outlands even if it was something very small.

Feel free to write them exiting the field!

Chau was the one that came out on top when the two females stopped rolling. Chest heaving form exhaustion and lungs burning, it was sheer force of will that was pushing her toward; beyond what her body was willing to provide. The Shield placed her paw firmly on the white females throat, leaning all her weight onto that front leg to deprive her of the breath she desperately needed.

Then her trance was broken by the sound of her name. The black lioness looked over her shoulder sharply, silver eyes locking on the younger male - before they fell towards her mate. Her jaw was so tightly clenched she could not force it open to speak, instead she just leaned closer to the white female, a low grown bubbling in her throat as her teeth pressed against her cheek in warning. Then, she jumped away from her…

The Shield's gaze softened as she approached Azzan, the blood in her veins running cold with worry and fear. She did not like the idea of Telal facing the siblings on his own; but knew in her bones that Azzan needed her more. Blood trickled from the wounds on his neck and leg and the scent of iron filled her nostrils. His eyes closed and body limp - she knew he was too large for her to carry, especially now her muscles were burning from fatigue.

Instead, she laid over him; resting her head on his neck to both protect him whilst he was vulnerable and to feel for his breathing. A breath she did not know she was holding was freed from her lungs as she felt his pulse under her chin. He was alive - but he was not safe here. Biting at his mane to try and pull him onto his feet, she tried to allow him to use her smaller frame as a crutch.

”Azzan, I need you to stand! Find the strength from somewhere, my love. Please.” She did not know if her words were an order or a plea. In the end it did not matter; as long as she was able to help him to safety - Even if they had to crawl.

Vaya could watch no more. The brown lioness leaped down from her vantage point with and otherworldly grace. However, not a second after her paws had touched the sand - she heard a youthful voice calling out for help. Rocks slid down the cliff behind her, trickling down the crack that had opened up in the Earth; and disappearing into the darkness as surely as the Stormborn male had moments ago. She approached the edge, weary of the way her weight moved the rubble, but luckily - her footing did not fail her.

Golden eyes caught sight of the young male and she did not hesitate to act. She bit at the scruff of his neck, dragging him out the hole in one, purposeful pull - then he was sprawled out on the dirt, away from the edge, away from danger. The rogue female smiled down at him, her soft expression out of place on the battlefield. “Be careful little bird. Those wings are merely decoration.” She churred at the male; though her attention did not linger very long.

The young male did not need her anymore - but someone else did. “Now, it's time for you to return to the nest, or else risk flying too close to the sun!” She encouraged him, leaning down to press her nose against his check -

And with that, the lioness disappeared into the bodies on the battlefield.
