Round 1 roll 6 - General grid
Therianth 5/10
Saves=0

Perhaps she was being a little too cautious about making sure she knew where the Thread was, because when Shahera directed Therianth they came out of between with no Thread to burn. Oops.

Loreleth was terrified. His blue hide was dull, grey in spots, and his eyes were actually whirling white. His terror was so great he stood quivering in his straps, staring above him where his clutchsibs had disappeared. He was certain of bad news, certain that they would come back damaged, or worse, never come back at all.

"Hey now," J'lar grunted, reaching up, trying to get his blue to look down at him. Unfortunately, even petite in height, his dragon's head was still held too high for him to reach. While the dragon was usually pliant and never resisted His, today was an exception. Loreleth didn't want to take his eyes off the spot--his broken hearts were willing his clutchmates to return alive.

So worked up, the blue dragon's mouth was half-cracked as he panted in anxiety.

"Lore. Loreleth. Loreleth." J'lar spoke loud enough, and with enough firmness, that something seemed to break through his poor blue's fear. The dragon finally turned his head down, enough so J'lar could reach up and draw it close to him. He tenderly stroked the blue dragon's eyesridges and cheeks, cradling it lovingly against his chest. For a long moment he said nothing as he tried to assure his dragon. He sent a wave of support, a wave of assurance, and knowledge that no matter what, they would get through this.

What could he tell his beloved? He wasn't going to lie to him--there was a good chance any one of them might get lost Between, if not today, than the next time they went out to fight Thread. And what of the Fighting Wings? Death could touch them just as easily. Still, his blue would have to cope, would have to focus. He had no doubt once they were airborn Loreleth would perform admirably, but he it was this waiting that was chewing at them both.

Finally, with another wave of protective fondness, he thought to his trembling dearheart. Change is inevitable, Lore. This day is going to come every sevenday, just about. Scary things will happen. Your clutchsibs will get hurt and wounded BUT we will be there for them. To help them. To be strong for them. And yes, to remember them when they are absent. You've been such a good blue. So patient, so loving, so tender... but you're also strong. Tuck those fears away, lean on me. We're together, and that's something that'll never change, ya year? Just you and me. Always. You understand?

I'm not ready to lose them. I won't ever be ready to. The dragon practically keened into his rider.

"Hey now," he finally spoke, his gruff voice soft. "Nobody's ever ready to lose a loved one. But yer grievin' prematurely. They're all still alive, 'n you should be lovin' them now, while you still have them. 'nd when we go up there, you'll be helping to save them, right?" The man knew he had to distract his blue, and have him focus on anything but his fear. "It's all right, now. It's all right. Just breathe."

Round Two Begins!

First Wave whites, greens, and blues can roll from the grids!

Second Wave whites, greens, and blues can simply hang out in the Bowl, talk to one another, or even talk to Tea Clutch! Approximately an hour has passed.

Tea Clutch weyrlings, you'll be bagging firestone, rolling bandages, keeping your babies calm, and generally required to stay out from underfoot! Tea Clutch can hang out with Second Wave, and then hang out with First Wave if you wish!

Round Two Begins now, 10:30pm PST
Round Two Ends: 10:30pm Friday Sept 14, or there abouts! Uta will announce when the Round is over. You may keep rolling you daily rolls until Uta gives the announcement of the round change.

Remember you roll 3 times a day! Use it or lose it. Saves can stack per Round. Once the Round is up you need to earn them back!

~ ~ ~ ~

Liat was frustrated at herself. She had made a call, but the results did not play out in her favor. In fact, the decision had caused a few of her precious weyrlings to fall into harms way. Unfortunately, with Threadfall, split decisions had to be made and you did the best you could. No man or woman, no Wingleader or Weyrleader, could predict how a call would turn out.

Additionally, there was no time to focus on it. All she could do would carry forth and hope she didn't make the same mistake twice. The winds were picking up, and her poor weyrlings were doing the best they could. Now if only she didn't lead them into failure. But there wasn't time to focus on what went wrong. All she could do was keep tabs on what they were doing right, and what was going on above and around them.

Winds are shifting. Be on the lookout for the gusts and thin filaments. The blue dragon spoke to the weyrlings. He sent encouragement where he could, but also dove and fought the silvery strands that threatened to harm his precious but growing young ones. Even he was covered in ash and streaked with green ichor. But that was neither here nor there. Strigonth, you are relieved from your duty as Wingsecond. Young Hessianth, if you would kindly take over.

Day 1 / Round 2 / Roll 1: General Grid
Brown Aleyath: 11/14 HP
Held saves: 0

Aleyath popped back over the continent and flew into formation without issue, scouting for Thread like he had never left. Unfortunately, when he saw his next chance to flame a stray strand out of the sky, he overestimated its distance and appeared far beyond, earning a mental chuckle from his rider as the brown looked about in confusion.

Back we go, O'len said as they went Between once more. Another one for the flamethrowers below.

    Quote:
    3. Your dragon spots a silver strand of Thread. You visualize the space you need to go to flame it, but don't take into account the wind, or your dragon's flight speed. Instead, you appear Between but have completely overshot your airspace and are now out in the open, exposed, and with no Thread anywhere near you. Shaffit all! Don't you look the fool. Whoops.

Round 2 - Day 1 - Roll 1: General Grid
Brown Hessianth: 9/14 hp - Acting Wingsecond
Held saves: 0

Quote:
1. You appear from Between..... directly into a clump of Thread. It sears through your dragons wingsails, and you can feel it tangling up on your leg! The wherhide fabric doesn't seem to offer any protection at all, shaffit all! You finally remember to visualize and go Between, but you're certainly hurting. -5 HP Threadscore.

Don't make Liat regret this, L'nik informed Hessianth, pushing back at the surge of ego that suddenly rose from the brown when he was tapped to take up Strigonth's place. It would have been very easy to let it get to his head, and he couldn't have Hessianth getting too free-willed when they were responsible for others right then. You worry! We will do fine! I'll show you!

Unfortunately, it seemed that he hadn't quite reeled in as much as L'nik had wanted from the brown, and they happened to be just skilled enough to blink right into a patch of threadfall. Oh, they were off to a wonderful start.

Round 2 - Day 1 - Roll 1: General Grid
Blue Strigonth: 10/12 hp
Held saves: 0

Quote:
6. As you're flying, you notice one of your wingmates in trouble! You call out to them, to try to warn them, and hopefully avoid witnessing a catastrophe. Save! Remove all damage from a single roll for this Round!

The blue did not heaitate in giving up his point position, but neither did he flee from it. No, he had done his time, and done fairly well with that time, he felt. We will improve. This is only the first time, after all. D’mar too accepted the change in position, though in the man’s mind it was less easily let go, less willfully did he mentally shift from leader to follower. Of course we will. In time there will be no question. Still the blue rumbled, banking to turn and trade off with his brother. The position is yours now, Hessianth—!

The brown had winked between to hop forward in the formation, and come out just below a falling tangle the chaning winds had pushed into range. Without hesitation the blue flamed, catching the mess just in time to hopefully spare his brown sibling. It would seem that the winds are changing. We will leave it to you to assist Liat in seeing us through them safely, brother. The blue darted to twist just under the brown’s wing, a pulse of sincere hope for the brown’s success radiating off him, and then off back to join the rest of the wing.

When they blinked back out of between, dodging a line of Thread, C'sar was immediately aware of a large clump directly before them. Illiandinth bugled, but then Shahera and Therianth were there, flaming the menace from the sky! At his rider's prompting, Illiandinth sent his sister a wave of gratitude as they slid back into formation.

Round 2 roll 1 - General grid
Therianth 5/10
Saves=0

Therianth was hurting but she refused to give up. Shahera was stubborn, which was probably a bad idea in the long run. Another good hit and they would be in trouble. But they weren't the one's in trouble right then. Oh no! Therianth suddenly veered off to the side and Shahera quickly supplied the needed firestone. Flaming carefully as to not flame the bronze they burned the Thread that was about to hit Illiandinth out of the sky. Therianth sent a wave of affection to the bronze. No threadscore for him just yet.

Round 2 - Day 1 - Roll 2: General Grid
Brown Hessianth: 13/14 hp - Acting Wingsecond
Held saves: 0

2. Your dragon swoops down to flame a writhing silvery Thread, but your riding straps are just a little bit loose. The sudden fear of feeling yourself lift just a bit higher in the straps than you like is terrifying as you fear you might slide off. Furthermore, when your dragon swoops back up to return to formation, you're forcefully returned to your seat! You're able to tighten the leg strap with shaky hands, and were never at risk of actually falling off, but it's not an experience you want to feel again. Your tailbone is going to object for a few days. -1 HP Rider Damage.

They'd been saved by Strigonth's observations for a second time, and L'nik only had to urge a bit less hard this time to make Hessianth speak up on it. I am lucky that you have my back once again, Strigonth. there was a genuine warmth to the statement. If L'nik wanted him to play nice, this was a good time to do it - and the petty squabbles on the ground could wait for then if they had to happen.

You did well, he added after a moment. But L'nik had been right about keeping his ego in check for the time being. Unlike his brother, he had many more hours to go and taking hits for overconfidence would knock them both out of the sky. So it was with a slightly more even head that Hessianth pushed forward in his flaming - though he perhaps was a bit too extreme in his twisting.

While he'd known his straps were solidly built - he'd checked them past 2 tanners more practiced than himself, after all - being jostled about in them not only hurt, but he could tell Hessianth hadn't enjoyed it much either. We'll check those better next time. he murmured to himself and the brown as he adjusted them, though he was going to feel that for a while.

A lick of red flared in the Bronze's eyes as they appeared in... empty air. Frustrated with his inaccuracy, Illiandinth swerved back into place. He had eyes upon him and a Wing to protect! C'sar placed a quelling hand upon his neck, sending a surge of reassurance through him. This was, after all, only their first engagement.

Round 2 roll 2 - General grid
Therianth 4/10
Saves=0

It seemed to be going all right. But as Therianth pulled a complicated turn Shahera felt the straps slip. It was a startling experience to say the least. As they came up she got jolted. At her surprise, Therianth reached out with concern. Just some bouncing around. Shahera reached down and tightened the straps though. That was not something she wanted to experience again.

Sufficiently chastened, if only by their own internal thoughts, C'sar and Illiandinth turned as one back to the task at hand. And, as one, C'sar-Illiandinth caught sight of a disaster in the making. 'Ware, Vedmath! Illiandinth called, his bass voice strident, utterly absent of its usual smoky, oily splendor. The Bronze spread his wings wide, executing a turn in the air as he closed them, pivoting tightly to send a gout of flame after the Thread that would steal his brother's life. Its ashen remnants fluttered harmlessly away, and the dragon-rider pair watched as it fell.

4. No Thread is near you, and there's nothing really to be done. The winds are calm and you're in good spirits. You've got this. A moment to think, a moment to breathe. Look at you, fighting Thread like a real rider!

As the blue slid into formation with the rest of the wing, he and his rider shared a brief moment of pride and calm. They'd come out the other side in fine shape, and no one had been hurt under their command—not by any of their own actions, really, at least. Aleyath...well. It had simply been an impossible save, and of all the dragons apt to forgive them? The brown seemed alright from where they flew now. Things were about as right as they could be.

Now then. Time to focus. Of course, at that moment, their assigned airspace was empty of danger. Still, no reason not to stay alert and ready to shine again.
