Frowning a bit, Jay put his book away. He turned his head as he heard something approaching, brow furrowing. He didn't recognize the steps-- not that he really could consistently determine pokemon by that-- nor the little mutterings it made. He pulled out his pokedex and pointed it in the direction the pokemon was coming from. He quirked an eyebrow when his pokedex identified it as a nosepass, and lowered it. "Mawile-- sorry, Gamma-- Iron Head if ya please," he requested. The pokemon nodded, turning, and then ramming into the rock pokemon, knocking it out with relative ease. He placed his hands on his hips, looking a bit proud of himself, and actually gave a little bit of a smile to Machop as she came over and gave him a congratulatory clap on the shoulder. She was... weird, but supportive. Definitely not a bad teammate to have.

Both pokemon stepped back as another horde of pokemon appeared, and at the same time, Quena came bounding back, glancing briefly at the foreign pokemon with a furrowed brow. She made her way to Jay, who had heard her coming and already had his hand down for her to jump into. He took the object she handed him and tucked it away for later, returning Mawile and Machop, and sending Mary Lee out. He just needed one good magnitude, which she managed, before he returned her. Putting Quena back to his pocket, he nodded Mime Jr and Ralts to follow, Zoey cuddling up to his neck, holding on to his hair with one wing, and squeaking out so he could make his way to Geosenge Town. His pokemon needed healing... and he could always come back and resume the hunt.

Jay made his way around the stones as he avoided the tall grass, walking with quickened strides towards town. He didn't want to come across too many more wild pokemon, but unfortunately wasn't able to avoid an encounter with a Yanma. Any other time, he might consider catching it, but at the moment, he didn't want to take up too much time with Mary Lee still enduring her poisoning. Mime Jr was able to quickly take it out, and the group moved along to the town. "Y'know, Mahmy, ah managed t'find how ya evolve," he remarked as they entered the town. 'You want to evolve, Mimey?' Ralts piped up, looking at his friend with a slight frown. 'Of course, silly!' Mime Jr replied excitedly, 'I can't wait to evolve! I'm going to be the prettiest and STRONGEST Ms Mime ever~!' Jay chuckled a bit, but Ralts looked worried. 'So how do we do it, Jay?' she queried. "Ya akshully need ta relearn uh move," he explained, "'Mimic'. Then ya jus' need ta level up, and ye'll evolve." Mime Jr blinked, her eyes growing wide. 'Whooaaa? Really? That's all?' she asked in awe. "Yup," he confirmed, heading into the pokecenter, "We can see if we can do et when we return ta trainin', if'n ya like." Mime Jr squealed in excitement, but calmed herself so she and the others could be healed once they reached the counter.

After a nice little wait with Ralts, Jay was able to get his pokemon, Mimey hopping excitedly down from the counter as he put the pokeballs away. 'I can't wait!' she squealed happily, telepathically. It was a miracle she wasn't shouting this out loud, really. 'This is so exciting! I'm gonna get to evolve! Ralward, isn't this exciting!??' she pestered her friend, grabbing onto one of her hands and bouncing happily. The Ralts had his other hand thoughtfully brought up to his mouth, a worried frown on his face, and just hummed in agreement. Jay turned his head a little, even though there wasn't technically any sound to the conversation, raising an eyebrow. He had to admit, considering the two's relationship, ralts seemed rather monotoned over this, even for him...
Once back out, they almost immediately encountered another Houndour, and Jay released Machop back out so she could quickly sweep it's legs out from under it, defeating it easily. It scrambled back up and bolted off, yipping a bit in panic.

Jay was starting to pick up on what Ralts might have been concerned about. Of course, he didn't really know much about Mr Mime's appearance-- he couldn't exactly see pictures, he'd never encountered one, and even if he had, he wouldn't have the same... perception of it that most people would. But the fact that Ralts wasn't celebrating alongside his friend, and brought up what it looked like, and Mime Jr didn't seem to quite understand.... Jay lifted his head from his book as he heard the sound of people approaching. By the topics of their conversations, he would bet they were trainers. His pokemon could use a break from the wild pokemon around, and, despite some status afflictions, the trainers posed a good change of pace. "Howdy," he greeted as they got closer, "Y'all wouldn't happen t'be int'rested in uh pok'mon battle, wouldja?" There was a very brief moment quiet where they all seemed to exchange looks, before one of the girls spoke up. "Well sure thing, cowboy," she replied, playfully mimicking his accent. He smirked a bit in response. "You planning to take us all on?""Well depends how much time y'all have," he replied, setting his book down and standing, keeping his head slightly bowed with his hat shading his face. Jay frowned, recalling Machop as his opponent sent out, according to his pokedex, an 'unfezant'-- a flying type. He had Mawile go first, his expression darkening as the paralysis apparently kicked in. That kind of thing was hard for him to decipher-- but the lack of noise, and Mawile's frustrated cries, helped give it away. "Don' worry, Gamma, just try 'n use Iron Head when ya get thuh chance," he urged. Machop at least benefited from her status condition, but unfortunately Mawile had no such luck.

Their opponent was right-- this paralysis was doing a number on Mawile. Luckily his defense against other moves was impeccable, and their opponent didn't have any overly powerful moves. She was also right, though, that Gamma was tough. But he still needed a break, and he likely wouldn't give it to himself. "Alright Mawile, c'mon back," he instructed. He turned his head a little, listening, frowning as his opponent was identified as a steel type. Mary Lee would be great for this, but since she wasn't an option... He gently poked the little ball of fur in his shirt. "Quena, y'up for a battle?" he asked. "De!" she squeaked angrily back. Apparently not. He frowned. The girl put her pokeball away, stepping back. "Welp, that's it for me, I'm out. You still in to take on some of my friends?" she asked. Jay gave a nod. He stopped, though, as something seemed to happen; there was an odd change in the air, and he heard a few quiet gasps, two from his pokemon, and one from one of the individuals he was facing off with. He turned his head, trying to listen closely, then, recognizing the odd energy, directed his pokedex. He smiled, his suspicions confirmed. "Congrats, Machop," he remarked, lowering his pokedex a bit, "Or, guess ah should call ya Machoke, now.""Ma! Choke!" she replied gratefully, looking down at her hands, flexing her fingers with a grin.

The silence, lack of echo, and chill that ran up Jay's spine strongly suggested the next pokemon sent out was a ghost type. He moved his pokedex until it located it, identifying and confirming it was a ghost-grass type. He frowned, then turned his head slightly. "What d'you think, Gamma?" he asked. The pokemon had taken quite a few hits, but one blow should bring the ghost down. The mawile nodded, stepping forward and getting ready to fight, holding that same fighting position. This time Machoke didn't notice, still admiring her new form, smiling quite contently as she looked at herself, striking various poses. Jay couldn't see-- though he could hear her moving around-- but one of the trainers in the group was watching with ample amusement.
