Rainart is very gruff, very awkward socially, and really doesn't know how to interact with others normally. He's a big boy, even as far as drafts go. And he can be very gentle, even very intricate when he really puts his mind to it, but that takes a lot of concentration and patience at the best of times.
He is patient when he is on the hunt, and usually does not get ticked off very quickly, but once he sets his mind to something, or to hating someone, there is no changing it back.
He is obsessed with the Hunt. He is always trying to kill something bigger, better and harder to track. He loves the entire process, and will keep the skeletons as his trophy, specifically the skulls. He will of course try to use the entirety of his kill in one way or another, as he does not believe in wasting anything. At the very least, he will throw the remainders to scavengers. And though he will eat meat, it is not the only thing he will eat. He will gladly eat berries and graze, but after a while of eating that, he will start to crave some meat again.
He has a cave where he stores his trophies, hidden away in a secret place where very few now about it. It is usually where he can be found if he is upset, confused or otherwise unknowing of what to do next.

Childhood? Kill or be killed.
He learned to hunt and to kill real early, because he had to. There was no other way around it. He grew up in the mountains somewhere, but which ones, he couldn't remember anymore. Life there was harder, prey was harder to come by, as was any other sustenance such as grass and berries, so he ate what he could find, and fought off anything that tried to kill him.
As he learned to hunt he grew to like it more and more, eventually leading to his current obsession with it. He started to keep trophies, generally the skull, from his kills, as keepsakes and to pay his respects to the dead in his own strange way.
But with his obsession he allowed himself to get sloppy, and he nearly lost his life during a fight in his early adulthood. It was during the dark of the night in the fall. Having grown cocky and reckless he let his guard down, and allowed himself to fall asleep without any sort of trips or other precautionary set up. What attacked him was large, aggressive, and had a head full of sharp teeth. It snatched at a hind leg and attempted to pull him closer to the edge of the nearby cliff before Rainart fully woke to attempt to defend himself. What he saw would never be forgotten. Beaked mask over it's face, feathery pelt attached along it's back, leathery wings, clawed feet and a whip-like tail combined to make quite the terrifying midnight surprise. What he would later identify as some sort of Skinwalker, damn nearly killed him too, put up quite a fight. The two hefty males tumbled and rolled, bit and scratched, kicked and flailed for what must have been forever, until eventually Rainart managed to land a glancing blow to the 'walker's head which did not by itself do much, but it did throw him off-balance long enough for Rainart to strike the killing blow.
Ever since then, Rainart wears that Skinwalker's skull to remember that fateful fight, and appreciate how short life could be.
The crocodile he wears on his rump is one of his more fond fights, and the bird skull around his neck is from the other end of the spectrum. He managed not to pancake this bird, he managed to kill it gently, and to carefully process and clean it. He keeps it as a reminder that he can be gentle, and he must be careful.

By a twist of fate Rainart came across a part-kalona mare Araidne, and they really hit it off. She was strangely fond of his child-like simplicity during their first meeting, and she admired his hunting skills, too. They agreed that they would take the time to exchange skills: he would teach her some of his hunting techniques and she would teach him how to be lighter on his feet.
This was no simple feat, but as they spent more and more time together they started to learn about each other and began to understand one another. There was much in common between the two, and eventually this led to Ariadne's big announcement. She was pregnant with his foals: One male, Acanthus; and one female, Eira Linn. Together, Rainart and Ariadne raised healthy, strong foals to adulthood, the daughter a grand hunter, and the son as of yet, a decent hunter but a beast of a horse size-wise.
The son had set off to find himself in this great grand world, will not return until he has found himself, or has a trophy worthy of his time spent out.
The daughter just recently came back from her very first alone-hunt with a tale of vicious savagery when a thief attempted to snatch her prey, but ultimately came back with his skull, a trophy that envied his own.
