"Mmm...being an adult still sucks." She muttered, nuzzling her head into his shoulder.

"At least you've got a fat sum of cash and a book deal pretty much guaranteeing you'll never have to work a day in your life." Adrian said with a smile as he rested his head on top of hers.

"Yeah. Having a regular job probably wouldn't end well for me." Amaya said. Looking up at the clock, she groaned. "Please hurry up so it will be bed time..." She begged the clock, watching as the second hand ticked by.

"Ditto. Can you imagine me having any sort of job? Desk job or flipping burgers, suit or uniform, I would no doubt look ridiculous." Adrian with a grin in spite of himself at that mental image. Hearing her groan, he looked up at the clock as well. "Shame neither of us could have gotten saddled with power over time."

Looking at Adrian now, a smile played on Amaya's lips. "No, I think what you've been doing so far has worked." She laughed lightly. "I used to be able to speed up the clock on Calista on the difficult days, but she caught on. So I guess I just have to wait another hour." She murmured.

"Aw, you should have saved that trick for when I came back. Then she'd never know." Adrian said glancing over to see where Calista was in a Christmas Story and trying to figure out how far 'til the end she was. "See what you've done? Now you're making me antsy too."

"What did I do? I just want her to go to sleep so Santa will get here and leave the presents and so I can go to sleep. Why are you antsy?" Amaya asked as she cocked her head and looked at him.

"Because there's still much cuddling we have to catch up on." Adrian said with a smile and hugged her close. "And I don't know about you, but dining room chairs aren't the most comfortable pieces of furniture to do so on."

"I guess that's true enough. Maybe I can cheat the time with pie..." She said quietly, now slipping out of the hug and going into the kitchen. She got the pie ready and got the ice cream out. "Calista, desert time. And then bed time. Santa might be here early tonight and he'll pass us over if you're not asleep." Amaya called, almost surprised by how fast the girl ran in the room.

"I'm going to miss when that stops working." Adrian whispered to Amaya, knowing the Santa ploy would only work for so long.

"Me too..." She sighed, somewhat sadly as she gave Calista her slice of pie and a scoop of ice cream. She got Adrian pie and ice cream as well before getting her own and taking her seat once more.

"Did I mention we always bought a pie? Because I don't think I've ever actually had a homemade pie before." Adrian said bracing for shock. "I know, I had such a deprived childhood."

"We usually did when I was a kid. But I figured it out a few years ago, so I'd rather make it at this point." Amaya said with a shrug. "Least you didn't grow up as an army kid." She told him.

"That's one of those lifestyles I only ever heard horror stories about, with strict parents and lots of traveling." Adrian said taking a bite.

Amaya shrugged as she sipped her wine. "They were strict, but I live in Japan for a while before we ever moved. We moved bases around Japan a few times but it didn't destroy my childhood. Toughened me up quiet a bit actually. Probably wouldn't have survived long on the streets if I'd grown up a little more normally." She said.
