As Eddie collected the Quaffle from Rey, Talya swooped about to provide support. Her eyes were alight with excitement as she closed in and collected the ball from him, and she focused on the goal hoops defended by Finn. ‘Time for me to put a score in,’ she thought, as she urged he mount to greater speed. She didn’t know the Bludger was there until it slammed into her chest. Bones shattered like dry twigs as the iron ball crushed into her before it snarled and flew away somewhere behind her. The little Russian Chaser cried out as her right arm went limp, and she hung onto the ball with the strength of her small hand and nothing more as she fought to stay atop her mount.
Tears rolled unchecked down her face, while the cold air started to dry and freeze upon her now paling cheeks. As she tried to continue advancing the ball, Talya had flashes of light before her eyes. Before she needed to figure out how to pilot her broomstick and chuck the Quaffle towards the goal (she knew it would have been so much easier from horseback), she heard the whistle blow, announcing the Snitch had been caught, and it wasn’t by Kavi. ‘But, we were winning. We had them on the run; I was making Alynn look silly up here …,’ lamented the little Second Year.
Injured and disappointed, Talya settled toward the snowy pith below, unsure if she wanted to cry or throw up, and trying to focus past the sparklies swimming across her vision. Her feet felt like lead as her boots crunched on the snow. Her arm hung at her shoulder, which was crumpled, and the Quaffle dropped from her hand. The little Second Year mumbled, “Prosti, Sef. Ya ne uspel vovremya,” as she fainted, and pitched over into the snow.
