From minute one of entering the Distortion World it’d been one thing after the ever, from raging pokemon, defying the laws of gravity, and almost challenging a legendary pokemon; leave it to taking residence in a stranger’s home to return a bit of normalcy to their little ‘adventure’. Olivia listened attentively as Vince talked about his family, primarily his grandmother and grandfather and how the latter liked to pick on his spouse. It was rather cute, which she vocalized, and gave her opinion on how riling up your partner every now and again was a good thing. Taking a rather casual position leaning against the counter, she frowned gently and listened as Vince further explained the crass comments his grandfather made. “Maybe that’s just their dynamic?” she guessed, unable to say for sure; it wasn’t as if she’d met the couple. They moved on from the subject, keeping on the topic of family but now to when Vince would return to his family, though that wouldn’t be a while, since Vince was determined to complete what he’d set out to do before returning. What that was, she didn’t know, which prompted the pinkette to inquiry about it. “The Elite Four, huh? That’s certainly a while’s away,” she mused, remembering that Vince didn’t even have his first badge yet. “But, I can see you getting there. Even if you don’t want to be champion, give it some time and you’d accomplish beating the Four.” She doubted she’d ever make it as far as to the Elite since she couldn’t imagine Team Flare’s reach having gotten that far, but it was definitely a goal she’d encourage.
Olivia waited until after they’d cleared their plates before she finally apologized to Vince, something she found easier to do once her stomach was full and mind clear. Essentially dismissing the apology off, however, as Vince could understand her reaction and temporary anger towards him and from there went on my jokingly saying that, if things had continued to get hairy, he would’ve had to wrestle her to the ground. Olivia reacted to that more and with a laugh she insisted that he wouldn’t have been able to accomplish that, to which Vince responded with playful sarcasm. “A hundred and forty-three pounds,” she corrected, grin growing. “Besides, it’s not as if I would just allow you to do that, I’d fight back. And I know a few moves or two.” The two began clearing the table and, with plate in hand, the pinkette asked for Vince to make them another meal later, once they’d returned to the real world, of course. Olivia smiled when Vince agreed, though cautioned her not to expect anything too grand, he wasn’t a master chef, after all. “I’ll still look forward to it,” she insisted. “It’s not every day that I have someone voluntarily cooking for me.” She’d have to return the favor, one day, though she doubted any attempt she made would be truly special-- perhaps she’d just take Vince out to dinner instead. With dinner now settled, it was decided that they’d take advantage of the available couch and bed to get some much needed rest, they’d start their exploration afterwards. With limited options, a decision was made rather quickly: Vince would take the couch, and she the bed. It was simple enough, but Olivia found herself discontent.
It didn’t make sense for Vince to sleep in an area where he didn’t even properly fit, especially when there was a much bigger, spacious bed that she herself was more than willing to give up. But, Vince just had to be stubborn-- refusing to move from off the couch even when she physically tried to get him to move, reasoning that he’d already grown comfortable where he was. Why was-- he didn’t even need to-- in her irritation she shouted for him to move, she might’ve been yelling at a stone. He insisted that he didn’t get cramps, which meant that he’d be perfectly fine in his crowded position, which did anything but reassure Olivia enough to leave him alone. Instead she simply decided to make Vince her sleeping spot, flopping down onto the taller male. Ignoring his growl she quickly made herself comfortable, resting her head atop his chest and even closing her eyes. When commanded to get off, she simply threw his words back at him-- rather clever of her, and chuckled at Vince’s growing irritation. His threat to forcibly carry her was an interesting one, and one that could just as easily be worked around, as she proved with just a few suggestions off the top of her head. Another smile was starting to grow across her lips when she was suddenly picked up from off Vince and into his arms, turning that small smile into a frown; she honestly hadn’t thought he’d do it.
Perhaps exclaiming ‘put me down’ wasn’t wise, especially when she wasn’t specific enough to demand a location. When that didn’t work she resorted to clinging tightly to him, keeping her promise of becoming rather Joltik-esque. It wasn’t easy, especially with Vince constantly shifting her to try and loosen her grip on him. It didn’t work, much to Vince’s chagrin, no doubt, and she certainly didn't give up when Vince dropped them both off onto the bed, disturbing Huang Chen. Just like before they’d reached an impasse, with both refusing to allow the other to sleep on the couch, so once more did Olivia offer a compromise, suggesting they just share the bed. She was surprised when Vince rejected the idea, though not entirely, but listened as he explained, or at least half explained. A moment of silence passed between them before Vince apparently changed his mind, a tad suspicious considering the man was as stubborn as a Tauros, but Olivia was far too tired to question. Wanting to make it as comfortable as possible she scooted over to the edge of the bed, turning her back to Vince. She was exhausted, so it didn't take long for the officer to fall asleep and become dead to the world. She was determined to keep at least a foot of space between herself and Vince, and figured it was certainly possible since she didn't move too much in bed. Of course, she couldn't imagine Vince pulling her to him, or for a portal to open up and transport them back to the gym.
Upon their initial ‘arrival’ Olivia didn't wake, unconsciously pressing herself closer to the warmth near her. She was more than content to sleep another hour, or three, when she was suddenly jostled awake by Vince’s abrupt disengage. The pinkette opened her eyes reluctantly, and with blurred vision stared out directly ahead. “Vince?” she yawned and sat up slowly, one hand reaching up to brush her bangs from out of her face. “What’s the matter?” It took her a moment before she realized what was wrong, and with a start she stumbled to her feet. Somehow they’d made it back to the gym? It looked normal, i.e the floor wasn't the ceiling, so that meant this wasn't a warped copy-- they really were back in the real world. Olivia smiled, relieved, but quickly followed after Vince when she saw him following after a young man. Right, battling Viola, they still needed to do that.

Vince shrugged as Olivia suggested that it was just his grandparent's dynamic that they teased each other all the time. It was possible, and they seemed to be just fine with it, even if Vince couldn't understand. Not that he would see them again until he beat the elite four anyways. Even Olivia had to agree that it was a while away, but she could certainly see Vince getting there. Soon Olivia apologized for her behavior but frankly, Vince was just glad he didn't have to wrestle her away from certain death, though Olivia didn't seem to think he would have won that battle, correcting him on her actual weight when he suggested that it wouldn't be too hard to wrestle all one hundred and thirty pounds of her. "Right, because thirteen pounds makes that much of a difference." Vince chuckled, though the pinkette was determined to convince him that she could have taken him with the right motivation, since she knew a few moves. "As do I." Vince countered with a casual sip of his water. The playful argument eventually settled, and Olivia asked if he could cook for him again in the future. Vince didn't mind, though he warned that he couldn't do anything fancy, but Olivia didn't seem to mind. She insisted that she would still look forward to it because he would be voluntarily cooking for him. "Heh, alright, I guess I can see the appeal." He agreed.
Soon, after much wrestling, arguing, and clinging, Vince and Olivia finally fell asleep in the bedroom before being warped out of the distortion world and back to reality. They had been sleeping soundly, but upon waking up, Vince realized that he'd fallen asleep before he got the chance to move back to the couch, and now he was bear hugging Olivia on the floor of the Santalune gym. He had remained there, attempting to slowly detangle without waking Olivia up, but as soon as one of the gym staff addressed them and insisting that they couldn't snuggle on the web, Vince couldn't help his knee jerk reaction away from Olivia, insisting that it wasn't like that. Arceus this was so embarrassing.... He only felt a little back that he'd shoved Olivia. It was probably a rude awakening, though if she had just slept in the bed and let him sleep on the couch, they wouldn't have been in such a compromising position in the first place. Olivia stirred, still groggy as she questioned if the blurred figure in front of her was indeed Vince. "Yeah." He confirmed for the sleepy pinkette, kneeling down to help her to her feet, since she was still somewhat unstable. It was.... Difficult, somehow, to stay mad at her in her tired state. Once she got her bearings, she seemed to take in the situation, smiling in relief that it seemed they were back. Vince wasn't so sure just yet, but he would play along as if it were for now. One could never be too careful.
He gave Olivia a look, silently trying to convey that they could discuss their situation later. Huang Chen bounded ahead of them, though she had been tired at first, talk of their gym battle at long last had quickly remedied that. She was more than a little eager to face Viola. As they climbed the ladder up to the canopy, the boy who had guided them called out to the gym leader. "M-miss Viola, there's some challengers here for you!" A bubbly feminine voice quickly replied. "Oh? Fantastic! Je serai bientôt~" She hummed, opening the curtains of her tent and giving Vince and Olivia a bright smile. "So, which of you will be battling me first?" Vince glanced to Olivia, who was still only half awake it seemed, and so he took the initiative, for both Olivia and Huang Chen's sakes. "I will." Vince nodded, stepping forward. "Char!" Huang Chen chimed in happily. "Oh! This is your charmander I assume?" Vince nodded. "She est si petit et mignon~" Viola cooed, snapping a picture of the fire type starter. "That passion for the battle ahead! Très bien, I am ready for you mon cher~" Viola insisted, sending out her surskit onto the battlefield. Vince hadn't expected the water bug. Perhaps it would be best to choose a different pokemon to start, and save Huang Chen for the type advantage against another bug.
"Alright Huang Chen, wait for a moment while I let---" Vince took hold of Xiu Feng's pokeball, about to let the fairy dragon out in Huang Chen's stead, but Huang Chen wouldn't allow it, rushing onto the battlefield and letting out a billowing stream of flames towards the pond skimmer. "Huang Chen!" Vince growled, clearly not happy with her disobedience. The attack was strong enough to do a lot of damage, but that was because at these levels, their opponents were weak. In a more advanced battle, that mistake would have cost her dearly, and it still might've here. "Oh? Perhaps a little too passionate for her trainer, non?" Viola asked with a little laugh. "Surskit, ma cherie, use bubble to douse those flames!" Huang Chen's fiery attack was met with resistance as the surskit began countering with it's bubbles. They fought through the flames easily, due to Huang Chen's inexperience with the move. It was an untrained, untempered, powerful move against a honed but weak move. The importance and difference between the two was no competition as the bubbles broke through her flames and slammed into Huang Chen. If she was going to insist on staying out to battle, she could have at least waited for his command. She hadn't practiced much with her heat wave attack, and dragon rush would have ensured an immediate KO for the water bug, but now the surskit had gotten in an attack.
Huang Chen struggled to get back to her feet. She'd thought that, this being a bug type gym, she could just burn through the bugs and get this over with. She was quickly regretting that assumption. "Have you forgotten everything I taught you? Get up." Vince commanded harshly. Huang Chen struggled to her feet, feeling sluggish, but able to go on. Viola's surskit on the other hand, fell to the ground soon after, suffering from a burn that sapped the last of it's strength. "Oh dear... Return ma cherie, you did well." Viola comforted. "You got lucky Huang Chen. That bubble has slowed your speed enough that it could have attacked you again before you got up. You would have been knocked out easily." Vince would make sure she knew every single consequence to her rash actions. Perhaps then she would learn to listen. Huang Chen gave an annoyed growl in response. "Don't growl at me. You're the one who made the mistake of charging in without my command." Vince chastised. "Vivillon, it's your time to shine~" Viola chirped, sending the butterfly pokemon out with a flourish. "Tackle ma chère!" She commanded, the Vivillon moving too fast for Huang Chen to get an attack in first. It slammed into her hard, sending Huang Chen into the ground once again. This time, she didn't move to get up. She was hurting, badly, and Vince wasn't going to help her out of her mistake. She had started this battle alone, and so if that's how she wanted to fight, then he wouldn't do anything. She could fight for herself and learn what it was like; painful and hard. When she was ready to fight for her team, then he would command her like she was part of it. Annoyed and defiant, Huang Chen bloomed with fiery energy, feeling a sudden surge from her blaze ability. "Charrr!!!!" Huang Chen stood, eyes red, tail flame blazing, as she unleashed a massive heat wave towards Viola's vivillon. The bug pokemon fainted almost instantaneously, but Huang Chen kept going. "That's enough Huang Chen!" Just as Vince was about to return the charmander, she fell in a heap, fainting from exhaustion. "....W-well then! That was certainly a blazing finish, non?" Viola chuckled nervously, trying to lighten the mood a bit. To say Vince looked tense would have been an understatement.

"Allow me to present to you, the Bug Badge! It proves you've got a bit of flare to your battles." Viola inwardly chuckled at her clever word-play as she handed her badge, appropriately bug shaped, over to Vince along with a little disc. "And, here's a little something extra! Infestation, a truly captivant move!"

Vince had won by a landslide, but now scorch marks covered the battlefield, and his pokemon had blatantly disobeyed him the entire battle. It was not a victory Vince wanted to accept, and as Viola attempted to present her badge, Vince turned away in silent refusal, returning Huang Chen to her pokeball. Viola drew back slightly, concerned. "Don't look so down ma cherie! You won! This is cause to celebrate." Vince gave the gym leader a cold look. "No. This is an embarrassment. My own pokemon disobeyed me the entire battle, and lost control, nearly killing yours; why are you rewarding that with a badge?" Vince asked, livid, though his anger and frustration wasn't directed at Viola necessarily. "Ah... My apologies, but the league rules state that a win is a win...." Vince shot another heated look at the bug type gym leader. "To hell with their rules! This is absurd. I'm not fit for that badge if I can't control my own pokemon. No. I refuse to accept this as a win. This is nothing but a disgrace. I will come and challenge you again later, and win under my terms, with a pokemon that acts under my command rather than their own jurisdiction." Vince growled. With clenched fists, he turned away, storming off up the ladder to exit the gym. Remaining here with Olivia to watch her battle would only be detrimental to the both of them. "Oh dear... Is he always so serious...?" Viola smiled gently at Olivia, handing her Vince's badge and TM. "I will just leave these with you then, perhaps later he will come to accept them. Give me just a moment ma cherie, I will heal my pokemon and be back to battle you in just a moment." She insisted.
Meanwhile, Vince had clamored out of the gym and into the art gallery, still fuming as he left for the pokemon center. It didn't take long, at least it didn't feel like it in Vince's mind to get to the center, possibly because blind rage made time go by quickly. He shoved Huang Chen's pokeball onto the counter in the center lobby, glaring unintentionally at Nurse Joy due to the scowl that was simply plastered to his face at the moment. "Heal her." He demanded. "Ah.... Lost the gym battle I take it...?" Vince scoffed. "No. We won alright." He sneered, leaving the nurse confused as he got himself a room key and made his way to the unoccupied space to seethe in peace. He wished he was home, that way he could vent his frustration out on a target dummy with his katana, but unfortunately there wasn't anything close here, except for maybe the trees, but Vince wasn't about to go decimating innocent wildlife to appease his anger. He had to quell it some other way, no matter how difficult that seemed now. "HrrrraGH!!!" He growled loudly in frustration, now that he was in the temporary sanctuary that was his rental room. He pounded the pillows of his bed with a fist, still it brought him no peace. He doubted he would ever be satisfied until he got that rematch with Viola. Maybe he could go back now, leaving Huang Chen in recovery here so that she wouldn't try and get in the way this time. How dare she! Vince had thought she knew by now to be patient, to await his orders. He had made her promise after that damned weedle, and now it was like she had forgotten it all over night! What did it take?
Vince took a deep breath and climbed atop his bed, taking a criss-cross seated position and straightening his back. Closing his eyes, he forced himself to take deep breaths and relax. He would need to meditate for a good long while to get over this. Even now he found himself being tested, just to keep still and seated. He focused all of his energy on this simple exercise, and even still he struggled. It was too fresh, too recent, his anger was still boiling over with no way to quell it before attempting something like meditation to release the negative energy from his spirit. "Haaaa..." Vince sighed in a form that was more akin to a snarl, standing again and pacing the floor of his room, feeling restless. There was too much energy, and no way to really release it. He would just have to settle for punching pillows until Huang Chen was healed, and the he could have a strict talk with the charmander about her unacceptable behavior. He needed to try and calm down before that though. If he resorted to shouting and screaming at the fire type, nothing would get through to her.

Rose entered the pokemon center, Fynx by her side and Auriel strutting along behind her. She found some maps of the other regions, and since they were here, Fynx suggested they grab something to eat. Auriel cooed at the mention of eating, eager for a bite to eat before going on a long journey. Rose lead the way to a table once Auriel had some food. She laid out the maps on the table before her, looking at them with pursed lips. She had. No idea. what these regions were like. It wasn't obvious from the maps, either. Between bites of food, Auriel peered at the maps, while Fynx looked at them with more understanding.

All their discussion of Vince’s family made Olivia think of her own and briefly wonder about them, her grandparents in particular. Neither maternal or paternal had the sort of relationship as the one Vince’s did with their spouse, her father’s parents were far too affectionate in fact; they also lived in Kalos, so she’d have to be careful with visiting them, at least if Vince was still traveling at that time, lest she blow her cover. Vince had admitted to trying to make it all the way to the Elite Four, so it was certainly possible, but as she herself had stated, that was quite a while away, several months at least. Their conversation took a turn when Olivia finally apologized for taking her anger out on him, and then from there it turned to wrestling, of all things, with Vince stating that he could wrestle her, and she insisting otherwise. “Oh, it most certainly does,” she said, rather firmly. Thirteen extra pounds plus a few submissive moves, she was certain it would be enough to pin Vince, or it would’ve been, if the male didn’t know a few moves as well. Olivia laughed softly, a smirk slowly rising. “One of these days, we’ll just have to see for ourselves,” she said finally. As their talk wound down to an end, the pinkette brought up one last conversation piece, convincing Vince to cook her a meal once they returned to their world. Even if it wouldn’t be anything fancy, she looked forward to it simple due to the fact that someone would be cooking for her, which, once pointed out, Vince could understand.
It took much longer than either of them could’ve predicted but, finally, both Vince and Olivia fell asleep on the bed and later on, by pure coincidence, she in his arms. It took her a few minutes, but eventually Olivia woke up-- though not without some ‘prompting’ from Vince, and although it was rather brusque with some help from Vince the young woman managed to regain her senses and find her footing. Much to her surprise, when she finally had her wits about her she found that they’d somehow managed to make it back to the last place they’d been before their departure. Taking Vince’s silent message the pinkette fell quiet and followed after Vince, using that time to try and clear her mind completely and think of the team she wanted to use against Viola, Vince had said she was bug-type specialist, hadn’t he? Even when they reached Viola and was greeted by the blonde she still seemed a bit groggy, Vince, sensing this, decided to take the initiative of battling first, which she was more than fine with. Olivia stifled a yawn and stood back to watch Vince’s battle, rather excited to watch her first gym battle.
Huang Chen was excited too, enough so that she ran onto the battlefield to fight Surskit, a pokemon she had a clear type disadvantage to, and surprised both Vince and Viola in the process. She had gumption, Olivia would give her that, but in all her eagerness she failed to listen to her trainer and shot out a blaze of fire at the waterbug and, although powerful, was easily countered by Surskit’s bubble. Olivia doubted Huang Chen would’ve been able to withstand another attack like that, especially with her speed lowered, but with a bit of luck on her side she’d managed to burn Surskit, rendering it unconscious before another attack could be sent out. Things certainly didn’t get any better when Vivillion was sent out and was able to tackle the dragon, nearly taking her out right then, and it certainly didn't help that Vince was obviously displeased, no longer offering any assistance to his pokemon. Things took a turn for the better, or worse depending on who you asked, as Huang Chen let loose a hot torrent of flames that instantly knocked out the butterfly. Though, unable to control the attack, she risked further harming Vivillion and forced her trainer to return it, and then Huang Chen herself when she finally fainted from exhaustion.
It was an interesting battle, to say in the least, but even more interesting was Vince’s outright rejection of his winnings, claiming that he hadn't technically won since Huang Chen had blatantly disobeyed him and nearly killed Vivillion in the process. Olivia remained quiet and with her arms crossed lightly over her chest she watched as Vince stormed out, hopefully to the Pokecenter. She sighed gently, her gaze still lingering on the ladder even after the male had left. “Only about ninety-eight percent of the time,” she answered, head eventually turning back to Viola, just in time to receive Vince’s disregarded badge and disc. “Don’t worry, I’ll smack some sense into him,” she assured and then nodded when Viola walked off to heal her pokemon.
Vince’s battle had given her something to think on, primarily on who she’d use herself, as well as a few other things that she ended up pushing to the back of her head to be thought on later. “Cayenne, Ginseng.” Olivia called her two pokemon out and smiled as she watched them stretch and then look up at her expectantly, Ginseng creating a bit of space between himself and Cayenne beforehand. “Alright, guys! This is it, our first gym battle. So, I’m counting on you two to help me out.” From the corner of her eye the pinkette watched as Viola returned, pokemon now healed, and gently tucked Vince’s items carefully into her bag and in its place pulled out a piece of charcoal. "This is for you, Cayenne," she informed her starter, handing the piece of kindle off before she turned to Ginseng. “You’re up first, bud. Show me what you’ve got.” The rabbit-esque pokemon gave a sharp nod and flexed both biceps before he scrambled onto the battlefield, where Surskit awaited him.

Viola was surprised that Olive hadn't just left her bunnelby out. It could have very well taken out her vivillion rather quickly. Either way, she lost twice in a row, so close together. Her pokemon deserved a good rest now. Congratulating Olive on her victory, the gym leader returned her butterfly pokemon. "And to you, your own winnings." she commented, handing over the prize for defeating her. "With that done, go see what you can do about your friend." Viola added with a smile. The amount of seriousness that the male had displayed... well, it was likely unhealthy. After Olive accepted the stuff, Viola left to heal up her pokemon, and hopefully give them a decent rest before the next challenger could come.

With a nod and a smile Olivia accepted her prizes, her attention briefly deviating from Viola long enough for her to welcome Cayenne back from her battle, the fire-type exhilarated from her first, successful, gym battle and completely ignorant of her wounds. “Thank you very much.” She dropped down to run her fingers briefly over Cayenne’s back in praise and then tried to do the same to Ginseng, only to have him recoil back-- right, right… no touching. She chuckled and offered the gynophobic rabbit an air-pat before she turned back to Viola, “I’ll certainly try my best,” she assured the blonde before she straightened up and made for the ladder, though returned both of her pokemon before she stepped down onto the first ring. First things first was to head for the Pokecenter, have her pokemon healed and maybe check in with her precinct to see if there’d been any updates on Team Flare, and after that she’d try and find Vince. She doubted he could have actually left the city, but she wasn’t one hundred percent positive on that either; it might help if she had his number, but they’d yet to do that. Olivia couldn’t help but to linger in the art gallery once she’d arrived out of the gym portion of the building, her eyes bouncing from one canvas to the other. Perhaps hers and Vince’s battle would be depicted here, one of these days, the mere possibility was more than enough incentive for her to come back, later though.
Pushing open the doors to the gym the pinkette was greeted by the bright afternoon sun, the bright blue expanse of sky much different than what she’d thought it would be. Several hours had passed inside the Distortion World, at least that’s what it’d felt like to her, but upon returning to their world it seemed not much had passed at all. So had time just been frozen during their trip? “Huh.” Olivia found herself huffing in slight confusion as she tried to wrap her mind around the phenomenon, though eventually she shook her head and pushed it to the side, she had more important things to deal with. Like Vince. His first stop had to have been the same red building she was making her way to, in the condition Huang Chen had been left in she would need more than just potions to heal her, so she’d check there while she had her pokemon healed, two pidgeys with one stone.
“Hello!” Olivia called out as she stepped through the automatic doors, waving to the on-duty Nurse Joy behind the counter. She approached and slid her two capsules onto the smooth surface, leaning forward to press both forearms onto the counter in the process. “Can I have these two healed for me?” She flashed a grin and waited until the woman had turned her back before she looked around absently and then launched into her ‘investigation’. “I hate to be a bother, but has a man come in here in the past few minutes? About yay big, and thiiiiis angry? He would’ve had an injured Charmander with him.” Nurse Joy couldn’t help but to press her lips together at the description and waited until after she’d handed Olivia her pokemon back before she answered. “Why, yes, he actually rented a room here. Is he a friend of yours?” Olivia hummed in confirmation and let Cayenne and Ginseng back out, figuring that one battle wasn’t enough to qualify as ‘fresh air’. “Can I get his room number? I’ve got to return something to him.” The woman nodded and after checking gave her the information, though stopped the other before the officer could leave. “Do you know why he was so angry? I thought he said he’d won his battle against Viola.” For some reason Olivia found herself chuckling before she shrugged her shoulders, “oh, he did. Just not in the way he wanted.”
Olivia waved in farewell to the nurse and left to hunt down Vince, repeating his room number underneath her breath as Cayenne and Ginseng ran around her feet. It didn’t take long before she found Vince’s room number and the pinkette rolled her shoulders and collected her thoughts. There was a good chance that Vince was still angry over his battle, which meant that she’d have to try, emphasis on try, to calm him down. Such a fun task! Olivia looked down at her pokemon, giving them a look of warning, then rapped her knuckles sharply on the door. “Vince? You in there?”

Every minute Vince forced himself to try and calm down was excruciating. His anger boiled so close to the surface. Bottling it up would cause internal damage, letting it flow free and rampant would cause external damage. He needed to let it dissipate, but that was easier said than done; honestly it was one of the teachings Vince had the most difficult time learning and putting to practice. He didn't understand how some people could just let these things go so easily. Maybe it was because he had a bit of a one track mind, so he couldn't just distract himself with a book or other meaningless tasks, unless it was a show of force. Still, Vince thought about more... Productive or calming uses of his time, and settled for logging into the computer at the desk across from his bed. He was certain that, knowing his family, he probably had a stream of emails already, and sure enough, opening his mailbox, Vince found three letters. One was from his grandma, asking the typical questions, mentioning how strange it was that his seat was empty at the dinner table. He would have to reply to it later when he was in a less irritable mood.
The next was from his older brother, surprisingly. Quirking a brow, Vince opened the email and chuckled a bit as he read through his brother's masked concern, insisting that it was mother who put him up to writing the letter. Last but not least, there was a more recent email from his father, containing a family care package. Curious, Vince allowed the PC to transfer the package to him. There were several useful items, which Vince gladly packed away in his back, though one small purple stone he gave to Li Yu to hold. After the items were packed away, Vince noted the pokeball on the desk. That was.... Xiang's pokeball. What was father doing? Vince couldn't accept this gift, it was too much. Xiang was his father's salamence, scales black as the night and wings red as dawn, a tough pokemon in his own right, but one that had often taken care of Vince in his father's stead. Furiously, Vince red through the rest of his father's email. 'He was worried about you' was the explanation the he got, and doubted. It was more likely that his father was the one who worried, sending Xiang instead as a scapegoat.
It wasn't that he wasn't honored or grateful, Xiang was a gift, just one Vince had a hard time accepting under the circumstances, but sending Xiang back would dishonor his father, and that was not something Vince would allow. Giving an irritable sigh, Vince stood, shutting down the PC and moving onto his bed. He lay down on his back, folding his arms behind his head, and looked at the time. He felt a little better, as in he wasn't at the boiling point he had been at earlier, but still irritable. Soon he would need to retrieve Huang Chen, and he doubted she would stay put in her pokeball, which meant she would confront him the first moment she got, and he wasn't ready to deal with her yet.
A sharp rapping on his door broke Vince out of his train of thought. "Vince? You in there?" He wasn't ready to deal with her either. Vince grimaced, wondering if keeping quiet would make her think he actually wasn't there. How did she find his room anyways? With a sigh, Vince lay back on his bed. "No." He grunted, a high injection of sarcasm in his tone. That was an obvious lie, but he certainly wished he wasn't there, that way she wouldn't be bothering him and he could be left alone in peace. He also wished he'd locked the door, and was tempted to hurry and do it now, but it probably wouldn't go over well.

After knocking on the door Olivia waited patiently for some sort of reply, her hand dropping back down to her side-- there was no use in knocking twice. A heartbeat of silence passed before Vince called back, and Olivia found herself fighting between a smirk and a frown as she rolled her eyes. "Oh, okay," she heard herself say, "I'll just come back later then." As she'd thought, Vince was still upset. With a soft sigh she stretched a hand out, prepared to knock once again and annoy him into answering the door, while the other reached absently for the door handle. She doubted that it was unlocked but it was worth checking-- "Oh." With slight surprise Olivia watched as the handle fell down, indicating that it was unlocked. Following through with the action the pinkette pushed open the door and let herself in, pokemon tumbling in after her.
She scanned the room quickly, spotting Vince laid out on the bed. "Word of advice," she started, closing the door behind her. "If you want to keep people out of your room, lock the door. You'd be surprised at how effective it is." Olivia approached the bed slowly, her arms crossed behind her back, and stopped directly in front of the furniture and Vince, not yet daring to sit down. "So, let's not beat around the bush. You're upset and frustrated, let's talk about it." Not waiting for Vince to accept or deny her suggestion--he'd probably choose the latter anyway--after all, it was a demand not a request.
"So, stop me if I'm wrong. But, you're upset because Huang Chen disobeyed you and, because of it, got herself hurt, lost control, and nearly ruined the gym and seriously injured Vivillion-- all reckless." Olivia paused long enough to catch her breath, her eyes not once averting from Vince's. "Well that sucks and although it wasn't your ideal win, it still counts as a win. You can't go back and force Viola to battle you just because you didn't win the way you wanted, that isn't fair. To her or her pokemon. Do you think every battle's going to go your way? Instead of getting upset with yourself and Huang Chen just take this as a learning opportunity. I mean, I don't know how much time you've spent battling with her, but it takes more than a day for a pokemon to fall into line and conform to your battle style."
"So she's a little eager, use that to your advantage." Olivia offered a smile, the majority of her piece said, then leaned forward to gently flick Vince's forehead. "And, next time, tell your friend where you're storming off to, it makes finding you easier. Or, just stay and watch their first gym battle. The support would've been nice."

Vince could hear the smirk in Olivia's voice as she suggested she would just come back later. This wasn't over yet, that much was obvious. She soon figured out that his door was open, Vince knew it wouldn't take her long, and now regretted not thinking to lock it when he had the chance. Of course, Olivia took the opportunity to reiterate this fact the moment she stepped inside. He shot her a glare. "Wow, I feel so informed. You should write a book." He shot back apathetically, clearly not amused as he opened an eye and glared lowly at the pinkette as she approached the bed. She didn't waste any time getting to the point, claiming he was upset and frustrated and inviting him to talk about it. "I don't want to talk about it. There's no point, unless you have a celebi hidden in that bag of yours." He grumbled, closing his eye again and turning his head away from her. That didn't seem to sway her though, because since he wasn't going to talk, she decided to do all the talking for him, roughly summarizing all the things that went wrong in his battle.
Vince visibly tensed, feeling like all this was doing was rehashing his frustrations that he'd finally started letting go of. Before he could get a word in though, she continued, suggesting that he couldn't force Viola to battle him again. "Sure I can. It's called a rematch, ever heard of it?" He grunted, but that was beside the point, and they both knew it. "I know every battle won't go my way, but this is just unacceptable. I wasn't even planning to put Huang Chen against that surskit because I haven't had her for very long, but no, I tell her I want to send in another pokemon and she rushes in without a second thought! I thought she would have learned her lesson after rushing in to battle that weedle. We had an agreement and she just--!" Vince growled, gripping the pillow behind him and tossing it at the wall. "How am I supposed to use her eagerness to my advantage when she won't even wait for me to give an order. If she wanted to fight so badly, I could have helped her through it in a better, more controlled fashion. I don't care if she's eager to fight, but if she's acting on her own, then she's not acting as a part of my team, and that's not something I can tolerate. I didn't earn that badge, I played no part in it." Vince sighed. "I don't expect you to understand my training methods, but kindly butt out."
And then suddenly he was flicked in the forehead. Vince's face contorted in a mixture of anger, irritation, and incredulousness. "Ow! What the hell?!" Vince growled, sitting up and rubbing his forehead as Olivia insisted that he needed to tell his friend where he was storming off to next time, or stay and watch their gym battle. Vince's mouth twitched. He supposed he probably deserved that. It wasn't like they had each other's numbers or any way to keep in contact. "Fine, I'm sorry I left, but I needed to cool off. Trust me, if I stayed there I wouldn't have been very supportive." Vince sighed.
As stubborn as Vince was Olivia had already proven she could be just as stubborn, if not more. Which meant that, when he originally refused to open the door, she resorted to other methods, initially going in to knock a second time before she discovered that the door was unlocked; that made things much easier. Though, dangerous at the same time, which she was kind enough to remind Vince of, in the most ‘helpful’ of tones; it was just a shame that her words of wisdom weren’t appreciated, Vince sarcastically suggesting she write a book. “Wow! Funny enough, I was already thinking about doing that, great minds think alike, huh?” Olivia ignored the glare sent her way as she drew closer and only flashed an amicable smile in Vince’s direction, not one to be intimidated by a facial expression. As expected her suggestion of ‘talking it out’ was rejected, which was a shame-- though that didn’t necessarily dissuade her from doing so anyway, there was no need to avoid the Donphan in the room. “Sorry, fresh out of Celebi’s,” she apologized, watching as Vince twisted himself on the bed and turned his back to her. “Besides, I’ve heard time traveling can have some ill effects on you anyway.”
Despite his flat-out refusal Olivia went on anyway, reiterating the battle and all that had gone wrong from her viewpoint. She was rather spot-on too, from the way Vince tensed as she spoke, but from there she went on to give the brunette a pep-talk, of sorts. She only shook her head, mouth twitching, when he countered that he could very well battle Viola once more, through a rematch. "That's not what I meant, Vince," she replied. She grew quiet, however, when Vince began to speak, informing her that he was aware that not every battle would go as planned and explaining just why he was upset with Huang Chen. "You're right, I don't understand your training methods," she admitted, arms crossing lightly over her chest. "And since you don't look like you'll explode, I'll leave it alone-- but, after I say this. You've already defeated Viola's pokemon once, there isn't any use in fighting them a second time, especially when all they'll do is lose. That's just cruel."
After saying her piece Olivia had flicked Vince's forward, his punishment for leaving her behind, and then snorted in laughter at the expression Vince displayed for doing so. The pinkette smiled before she moved to sit down on the edge of the bed, head turning to the side so that she could look at Vince. "Fair enough," she remarked. If he had only been capable of only being a sourpuss, she supposed she had been better off without Vince being there. "That being said," Olivia started and then brought her XTransceiver up for inspection. "There's a problem with my XTransceiver," she reported, her gaze flickering up to make eye-contact with Vince. "It doesn't have your number in it."

Vince rolled his eyes as Olivia retorted to his snide book writing comment with the idea that she was already thinking about doing it. "Yeah. Brilliant." He grumbled, clearly not in the mood to put up with their usual back and forth, so she just got straight to the point, insisting that they should talk things out, which Vince rejected since there was no point unless the pinkette had a way to rewind time. Olivia didn't seem surprised, playfully commenting that she was out of celebi and that she'd heard time traveling had bad side effects. Vince simply turned from her to further emphasize that he didn't want to talk right now, but she seemed to ignore all of his non verbal cues, which was annoying to say the least. He would have just given her the silent treatment, but when she attempted to assess the situation for him, he couldn't help but correct a few of her accusations, like how he could ask for a rematch. Olivia just sighed and insisted that wasn't what she meant, Vince knew, but much like what she was doing, he ignored the obvious and pressed his viewpoint of things. So he continued, explaining that he knew also knew that not every battle would go his way, and how he realized Huang Chen was too inexperienced and untrained for the battle, but she had charged into the fray before he could make a call.
Vince was aware that his training methods and battle style were a little.... Unorthodox, and that not everyone would really understand, but he had come here to escape people trying to insist he was doing it wrong, he didn't need Olivia telling him what to do too. Thankfully, Olivia finally said she'd leave it alone, since he didn't look like he was going to explode any more, but she would say her peace, insisting that it would be cruel to go back and defeat Viola again. Vince sat up then, giving Olivia a hard sigh. "It's not like I'm trying to beat Viola's pokemon to a pulp, I just wanted it to be a fair fight, and one that... I was actually a part of. It seems ridiculous that she would give me a badge saying that I'm qualified as a trainer when I didn't actually take part in the battle, and it was clear my pokemon was untrained and practically volatile. In what world does that mean she should give me a badge?!" Vince ranted, but one look at Olivia, and he knew she wasn't going to budge on this one. With a huff, he fell back onto the bed. "Fine. I'll go back and apologize, take my badge graciously, and leave. Okay?" He grumbled. He still didn't think he'd earned it though, and one of these days he planned to have a rematch, so that at least he would be comfortable with bearing that badge.
His calm, albeit reluctant, acceptance was quickly shattered with a flick to the forehead. Vince was admittedly quite surprised by the action, at least until she explained it was punishment for up and leaving her behind without another word or number. He had to admit that he deserved that one, but she certainly wouldn't have wanted him around to watch her battle. With that point made, Olivia accepted the fact that Vince wouldn't have been particularly supportive in that situation and backed off. However, she pulled up her Xtransceiver and mentioned that there was a problem with it. "Hm...?" Vince hummed, sounding rather uninterested but asking anyways. When Olivia explained that the problem was the fact that it didn't have his number in it though, Vince paused, giving Olivia a questionable look, but eventually gave a small snort and shook his head, typing into his own Xtransceiver and pulling up his number for her. "Here." He offered his wrist up, his tone slightly baffled, if not amused. "I suppose it's fitting, since we've stuck together this long." Vince suggested with a bit of a smirk. "As long as it prevents me from getting flicked in the forehead in the future." He added, moving to add her number after she wrote down his. This time though, when he looked at the device on his wrist, his eyes grew slightly wider in genuine surprise. "Huh.... That's today....? Wow... Happy birthday to me then..." Vince mused quietly to himself, sitting up. No wonder his family had sent him so many emails and gifts...
"Why thank you, my good sir." Despite her rather 'chipper' and oblivious mood, Olivia was careful to cut their banter short; perhaps at a later time, when Vince was no longer in his funk. Some time after they had their talk which, although wasn't wanted, was most certainly needed, at least in Olivia's eyes. Vince didn't see it that way, pessimistically stating that, unless she had a time-traveling Celebi, there was nothing to talk about. She retorted with a playfully regretful admission that she had just run out of them before absently commenting that she'd heard that time traveling could have a few unforeseen mishaps. He turned his back to her after that. Even if all the signs pointed to Vince not wanting to talk and to be left alone that eventually changed when she began to speak, correcting her on the few things she'd gotten wrong, like how he could easily battle Viola again in a rematch; they both knew that wasn't what she'd been referring to. It was enough to keep him talking, however, which was more than enough for Olivia, not to mention she actually was curious about why he was so angry, so actually listening and having him explain it out was good.
Every trainer's training method was different, Olivia realized this, and it wasn't her place to say if one was better than the other. Fully aware of this, she promised Vince that she'd leave him be and to his own devices, her main objective had been to check on him and make sure he wasn't too angry after the battle, but she did have one more thing to say. It was about Viola's pokemon and how beating them a second time was unfair. Vince countered that he wasn't trying to decimate the two and simply wanted a fair fight, and one that he could be involved in. Olivia's expression softened before she shrugged, "league rules, I guess. They don't always make sense, but Viola and every other gym leader has to follow them," she explained lamely, knowing full well that it wasn't a satisfactory answer, then offered a smile when he finally gave in. "Well, you don't have to go back to get your badge, but if you want to apologize then by my guest." She patted Vince's hand gently before she twisted around to grab her bag and pull out Vince's badge and TM. "Viola asked me to hold onto these for you, in case you ever came around."
Now that Vince had calmed down Olivia turned her focus onto her next objective and flicked the male across the forehead, startling him. Swallowing back laughter she explained how it was for leaving her without any way of knowing where he was going-- though it was also because he hadn't supported her in her battle, something she'd done for him. Though even she had to admit that, in the mood he'd been left in, it was, perhaps, better that he had left to cool off. With that settled Olivia turned to her XTransceiver and turned it on, offering it to Vince with the explanation that there was a problem with it-- it didn't have his number. Inwardly amused with her horrible little pick-up line, she waited for Vince's response and then laughed accordingly. "Thank you," she chirped when he held out his communicator with his number displayed on the screen. "Right?" she agreed as she inputted his number. "It's funny though. it feels as if we've been together for days now, when it's only been a couple of hours." She chuckled when he commented that giving her his number would also stop him from future forehead flicks, "only time will tell," she teased.
Olivia looked up after she'd finished saving Vince into her contacts then turned to look at the male himself, prepared to inquire about the rest of their day. They'd already challenged their first gym leader, and had even eaten and gotten in a nap; many things had been accomplished, and yet it was only noon. She found the brunette looking down at his wrist, visage turned in a curious look, but before she could question him he spoke of a birthday, his to be exact. "Really, it's your birthday?" Olivia turned to her own communicator to check the date before she looked to Vince and grinned, "well happy birthday! How old are you?"

Vince was frustrated with Olivia's continued persistence and oblivious act, like everything was peachy and normal and fine. Normally their playful banter would have... Actually been playful, but instead with Vince in a foul mood, he was trying to push Olivia back out the door, which wasn't working at all. Their sarcastic conversation about how wise Olivia's advice was on locking his door was quickly cut short, Olivia having decided that the best way to go about things was to just cut to the chase now. It was a good idea in theory, it at least got Vince to speak up and correct her on her misinformation. Particularly his opinions on what constituted a badge. Olivia didn't really have a good response, mentioning that they were just the league rules, and Viola had to follow them, like any other gym leader. Her tone gave indication that she knew it was a weak response, and that only made Vince stew more. "Yeah. That's what I thought. Rules are rules are rules. We do it this way because we've always done it this way. That's not a reason to keep rules in place. That's not a reason at all!" Vince fought the urge to throw another pillow. "Things change, people change, places change, pokemon change... Why is it that rules and tradition don't? Are people really that blind....? Or are they too scared of trying something different...." Vince muttered, mostly to himself, rubbing his head. "I'm sorry.... I'm not mad at you Olive, it's just... Personal." He grumbled, finally conceding and suggesting that he supposed he could go and apologize to Viola and retrieve his badge. After all, he shouldn't shoot the messenger. This was her job, Viola didn't deserve his outburst. It was the league he had a bone to pick with.
Olivia certainly seemed happy with his change of heart, patting his hand and mentioning hat she actually had his badge and TM, since Viola had asked her to hold onto them in case he came around. "Oh...." Vince took the items and stared at them for a moment. He hadn't expected that Viola would entrust his rewards with Olivia. Not that Olivia wasn't trustworthy, but it just seemed odd to Vince. Nevertheless, he took them with a subtle clear of his throat. "Thanks... I'll uh... See about apologizing later." He suggested standoffishly, now suddenly a little embarrassed. Given that he had the items now, it would feel strange to go back to her just for an apology. He knew she deserved one, given his behavior, but he wasn't one to socialize unless he was forced to.... Like how Olivia forced her presence on him, he thought in a playful lament. The thought brought a smile to his face until the pinkette flicked his forehead for leaving her behind in the gym. He did deserve that, if nothing else, even if his company wouldn't have been very supportive, he could have at least told her where he was going, or given her his number, and speaking of which, Olivia leaned over, mentioning that her Xtransceiver had something wrong with it, because it didn't have his number. Vince conceded, on the pretense that he was doing it just so that when he stormed off in the future, she didn't hunt him down to flick him in the forehead.
Olivia added his number, and Vince mentioned it seemed fitting at least, given how much they'd been through together. Olivia agreed, pointing out that it felt like they'd been together for a few days, when it was actually just a few hours. "I blame the Distortion World. Time was paused there, so who knows how long we were actually together there?" Vince shrugged, glancing at the communicator at his wrist and preparing to enter Olivia's information, but he then noticed the date, murmuring a quiet happy birthday to himself. His family made birthdays a big deal, but Vince wasn't very fond of being the center of attention. Being away from his family like this was nice, he still got all the well wishes and presents, but he didn't have to deal with the social aspect. Well, except now Olivia was all over it because she heard him. "Oh, uh... Yeah...." He muttered, trying to downplay it, except Olivia asked how old he was. "Twenty one as of today, actually." Vince informed her, hoping she wouldn't make a big deal out of it. Knowing Olivia though.....
