You bring back a whole bunch of greens and some edible seaweed scavanged from the shore and nearby lagoons. The greens will add both nutrients and flavor, and can always be dried.

Though she knew full well how silly it was, Iafri found the idea of fishing terribly intimidating, so she decided to take a chance and do some scavenging instead. The end result wasn't any kind of meat, but some lovely greens and seaweed that would supply much-needed nutrition and flavor - not to mention variety! And it was quite a pleasant day, really, walking along the beach and dipping into lagoons. It was such a nice and peaceful task that it didn't even feel like work.

Unfortunately you yank too hard and the line snaps. Not only is your pole now useless, but the big one gets away.
Worse, your fishing luck the rest of the sevenday seems to follow suit... You wind up with a whole lot of nothin'. -10 points

What a load of wherrydung that they had to go fishing! They were riders, shardit, not Seacrafters! This was absurd. Ralla and Firith were both livid that this was suddenly necessary - leave it to some idiot bronze to cause a diplomatic incident and ******** up their tithes. So now here they all were, fishing as though they didn't have other things to do. Hmph.

Beyond frustrated by it all, and with nothing to do but pace back and forth and this stupid dock while she waited for something to maybe take the bait, Ralla brooded sourly. When the bobber on her line finally did move, she snatched up the rod to set the hook and reel in her catch...except she was too forceful about it and snapped the line.

She had several choice words about that.

Ouch! This is deep. You have either lost a finger, or have cut into a nerve. This means you are out for the remainder of the game, and your grip will be permanently weakened. Take an extra -5 points for this roll

This fishing thing wouldn't be so bad! Far from minding the addition to his Candidate chores, Savindri was glad for the chance to help, especially if it meant he and the others would be able to stay. He was all good cheer when they set out for the day, happy to be outside in the fresh air...this beat lessons by a long shot! Unfortunately for Savindri, however, luck just wouldn't be on his side; worse still, it was more like it was actively against him.

Oh, he hooked a great big fish, but that monster fish snapped his line - and snapped it so hard that it came back and hit his hand. And it was...a bloody mess. A very bloody mess. Someone got him to the Healers, but the damage was done, and there was no saving the finger.

You don't know exactly what happened, but somehow you have wound up tangled up in a fishing net, out in the middle of the ocean. You thrash around and try hard to free yourself, but all you wind up doing is breathing in the salt-water. Thankfully, you're fished out by your fellows, untangled from the net, and dragged back to shore. Outside of being a little traumatized, roll a D4 to see what the results of your poor fishing happened to be!

Your net was torn badly, and is now unusable. Any fish that might have been in the net are long gone, and you're not returning with a net loss of... a net lost! Not only that, but your nose burns, and you're not feeling too great thanks to your half-drown experience. Blegh. Better report the lost net. [-10 points]

He'd been so sharding confident about taking a small boat a little ways out with a few others, confident that they'd be able to pull up a good amount of fish this way! Of course, that was before a particularly rough wave knocked him straight into the ocean--and into the net itself! Serrekhar was a strong swimmer, but he panicked as he found himself caught tight in the net and dragged down into the relentless deep.

Before he could really begin to choke and drown, he was hauled back out. For a while, he merely lay on the floor of the vessel, gasping and sputtering as he coughed up a hefty amount of sea water. He was alright--waterlogged, but alright. The net, however....

Shards, his whole throat and nose burned, and he really wasn't looking forward to explaining 'hey, I ruined this net because I kind of fell in it and freaked out.' So much for fishing.

There's nothing edible about this--not even any shelled seagrubs. To top it off, any fishing you do the rest of the day will either result in no bites or catches. -15 points

Fishing was most certainly not Aharaki's specialty. If they had wanted to her to go steal some food, now that she could done with no trouble, but fishing was a whole 'nother kettle. Still, it was what it was, and she was willing to try. All she got for trying, however, was a slimy old boot.

Well, no one was hungry enough to eat that.

Your net was torn and will require some patching, using up some of the Weyr's supplies. Any fish that might have been caught in it are now free to swim another day, and you bring in nothing for the day. Outside of wounded pride, and wet clothes, you're fine to continue fishing another day. [-5 points]

If you are a rider with XP points, take your two highest stats. Change that number to negative. You now take that many extra negative points. (6 +4 = 10 so -10 points!)

Alya fussed. And whined. And begged. Baihath, delighted with her theatrics, flopped dramatically on his side and moaned for extra emphasis. Alya didn't want to fish. She didn't know how and surely she'd just waste everyone's time trying! Being threatened with punishment was the only way to get her and Baihath (one skulking, one prancing) off to try their hand at bringing food home for the Weyr.

It went about as well as expected.

Somehow, Alya found herself dragged into the water by a particularly stubborn net, leaving her flailing, sputtering, and eventually wailing. Baihath immediately plucked her out and ferried her to shore, crooning and butting his head against her as he did his very best to cheer her up. They hadn't caught any fish, and the net would need to be fixed, but Alya was done! They could punish her all they wanted--she wasn't budging from her hut for the rest of the day!

Lots of fish and a variety, too! Packtail, silverfish, bluefish, and even a few spiderclaws! Tasty, tasty!

Aerden didn't know much when it came to fishing, but there was no question that the Weyr was in dire straights. He intended to do whatever he could to help out, so the loss of free time didn't bother him in the slightest. Even Tianxiath had to be a little delighted at all the different kinds of creatures he managed to haul in. It wasn't an enormous catch by any means, but Aerden was quite satisfied with what he'd been able to do for the afternoon.

This work was entirely beneath them both—but shardit, if D'mar and Strigonth were going to be relegated to hauling in nets of fish, well, they'd make the best of it—be the best at it. The lithe blue was mightily strong for his lean build, after all, and D'mar had put on muscle too in his turns spent as rider. It was nothing to drag the heavy nets, and pull flopping, flapping, stinking fish to shore... or at least, that was the view they both strove to give off. Surely no one had seen D'mar nearly being bowled over by that wave, right? Of course not... and Strigonth had snagged the net before it'd slipped fully free, after all. Why, look! They'd brought in a whole pile of packtails, surely that was all that anyone would notice... right?

It seemed like a blessing, a chance to use skills he'd been practicing since he was small. He took a pole and took his place on the dock. He casted several times, confident he'd bring something in.

And there it was! The bite, the drag, the struggle back and forth! Man, this was going to be a good haul for the Weyr!

Until the line snapped and G'rus nearly went a** over teakettle into the water.

Not such a great haul after all.

Form? En'cai didn't know much bout proper fishing form. He'd set his feet wide and he was determined, that was certain, judging by the set of his jaw, but he wasn't a professional by any means.

Which was clear when a wave him broadsides and he staggered a few desperate steps sideways, trying to keep his feet under him -and- his grip on the net full of fish.

Spurth splashed forward in a hurry and stoppe the near-tragdy by providing a sudden bronze wall for the big rider to collide aainst. A heavy whuf of air was the only thing that escaped.

"Thanks, buddy." En'cai thumped Spurth fondly with the side of his fist, and went to turn over his catch.
