Moving a another branch, Mgbamizu could see a small opening. "Hey look, there's a thin patch here! Help me get these branches out of the way." The brown lion said quickly, grabbing a pawful and a moutful, Mgbamizu dragged the foliage away. Sure enough, there was a path, but it wasn't quite big enough to let them through. If they tried to climb it, it would probably collapse under their wait.

"I just wonder if they found anything with those birds."

Pausing in his own work, Zuko moved over to the spot Mgbamizu had been working on. Indeed, it seemed much clearer here. He abandoned his own spot to help clear the rest of the way here, glad to be so close to pressing on. Hopefully they'd be able to find something on the other side of the rubble.

"I assume they'll call out if they come across something interesting," he said, shoving at the last few branches with his shoulder. The wood snapped under the pressure and he stumbled forward out onto the other side, finally freeing them from the wall of branches.

"Finally," he muttered, rolling his shoulders a bit.

"One would hope. Then again, with those two girls with them, who knows." Mgbamizu did not know Afya or Nyarai too much, but with the lighter female's action earlier and not taking the situation that seriously, he didn't know if they would advise the group not traveling together.

When Zuko removed the last bit of debris, Mgbamizu almost hooted with excitement. "Good teamwork guys," he said, acknowledging the help from Juu and Uru. "Let's keep going. And, make sure we keep an eye out for anything out of the ordinary." He said with an authoritative tone, stepping past the fallen tree and onwards down the trail.

Zuko glanced over his shoulder as the other lions came through the pathway. If anyone else wanted to follow they'd have to do so through that narrow passage, but at least they'd be able to know which way to go.

"Indeed,' he agreed, scanning the trees that remained upright for any more that looked like they might fall. "Eyes, ears, and noses at the ready." There was the possibility of someone being injured, the last thing they needed was for someone else to join the numbers.

Kemmasi considered a moment before nodding, leaving off on attempting to haul the branch to step closer to the edge of the pit. He wasn't entirely certain he could catch Afya if she slipped, but he would make the attempt. If the others wanted, they could drag over the branch he left alone for now; it wasn't like he felt any sort of ownership regarding it.

"Try not to make it two in the pit," he warned, a twitching tail belying his calm demeanor as the dark lioness reached down. "There's debris enough if we can't reach him this way."

"Because it probably is," Afya told Kione with an amused smirk. The correct decision was to wait for Nyarai and Sadiki to bring over a branch for Kione to use as leverage, but Afya was never a patient lioness. She couldn't stand around and do nothing, so she would do something. At least she had Kemmasi behind her to watch her back. Now, if he'd actually do anything to catch her if she started to slip was the real question. The dark lioness tried not to think too hard on that train of thought.

He was so close to being able to grab onto her, and that alone frustrated the lioness. She felt the barest touch of his paw against her's, but it wasn't nearly strong enough contact for Afya to act on. Grumbling to herself in frustration, she risked leaning further down into the pit. The edge of the pit was slippery, but she trusted her grip enough. She was also convinced that if she had been the one down there, she would have been able to get back up with minimal assistance.

Kione just needed to put more effort into it. "It'd be easier if we could just reach him," she grumbled at Kemmasi, clearly unimpressed by Kione's climbing abilities. His pale coat was getting dirty too - how unsightly.

"One more time, Kione..." she paused, ears twitching, "and with a little more 'oomph'."

Kemmasi suppressed a sigh, focusing on being alert and trying to be ready to spring for Afya if she began to fall. At this rate they'd be dragging debris to the hole to extract two lions instead of one, but he would do his best to make sure that didn't happen. He couldn't do much else past his verbal warning...this lioness was notable for being headstrong. Hopefully he'd be quick enough to grab her if she took a tumble.

The debris wa finally cleared and the silver male continued on down the slope. Although he was paying attention to his surroundings he was definitely in his own world. His focus was of course on who was missing, was purely on getting to the bottom of this slide and hopefully finding his son.

Kione gave an indignant huff at Afya's words. How on earth was he supposed to add "oomph" to what he was doing? He was stuck in a hole with loose dirt everywhere! Fine, if she wanted more effort from him, he'd show her more effort! Taking a few steps back, the lion gave an almighty leap towards the dirt wall.

The problem with dirt that had been loosened from a rock slide? It was really hard to get a grasp on. He did manage to jump fairly high (for him) but he scrambled to keep a good hold on anything. He didn't want to fall again.

He did manage to grab Afya's paw though, this time more firmly, but perhaps that wasn't the best thing to happen. Because now the lioness had almost all of Kione's weight in her one paw.

Now that they were past the debris Zuko could no longer hear anything on the other side. He hoped the other group was doing all right, but they had to continue this way to hopefully find someone or something that needed their help. Otherwise they just did all that work for nothing. Hmph.

See? All he needed was a good bit of inspiration to put some energy into those back legs of his. This time Kione managed to jump quite a bit further, and as Afya saw him leap towards the side of the pit she had hope he'd make it all the way. The lioness remained poised to grab him, dark eyes focused intently on Kione. Her intention was to snatch him as soon as he got close enough. Sure, he was a bigger lion, but Afya was convinced that she'd be able to get him out of there.

Of course, things normally didn't go her way.

"KIONE!" she sceeched, a vey unlady-like and unAfya-like sound to make.

He grabbed her paw, and the problem was that he wasn't coming up, but going back down. Afya felt the weight of her body jerked forward, and her cautious grip on the edge of the pit was not enough to save her. Following the momentum of his fall, she slid down into the pit, tumbling down to the bottom with an unfortunate groan.

If looks could kill, Kione would be long dead.

The look she gave the pale lion was accompanied by the words, "I hope the scavengers pick at your bones."

Zuko did hear a shout of someone's name and he stopped and turned, staring with narrowed eyes towards the tree that they had left behind.

"What are they doing over there?" he muttered to himself before glancing to the other lions with him on this side of the rubble. There were no other shouts and he was sure if someone had been hurt or in danger there would be quite the commotion, but still. He held his ground for the time being, waiting to see if there would be any development.

Mgbamizu froze when Zuko turned around, his own ears straining to hear the other shout. One of the girls, but they were too far to know who it was.

"That didn't sound good. Think we should double back to check on them?" The Aguu asked his partner, frowning. His eyes settled on Uru and Juu. There were many lions that went towards the birds. They should be okay...shouldn't they?

"No, we probably should continue forward." Mgbamizu seemed to answer himself, his ears dancing on his head. He would be alert for another screech. If one happened, then he would backtrack. That was all there was to it.

Zuko remained still, although his ears kept twitching and swiveling to try to catch any more sounds. There seemed to be none now, though, and Mgbamizu's answer was good enough for him. Their party was far smaller than those that had gone off in the other direction. They'd manage. And if not, they'd surely call for help.

"Onward," he agreed, turning away from the trees once more to carefully pick their way down the slope.
