They seemed to be in quite a pickle as Xatu slowly grew in size, preparing to attack... And then, when it happened, Bastien shut his eyes tight while covering his face.

But nothing seemed to happen. "Huh? Spice, you alright?"

"Y-yeah. I don't really... Think he did anything." Spice looked around curiously, not noticing anything different. Xatu was now back to his regular size, though. "My head feels a little funny? Other than that, I have no idea."

"B-but... That's... What the heck, skrwaaaak!?" Xatu looked less than pleased. "I thought we had more than enough energy! Why did my attack fail!?" The bird began stomping his foot as all of his minions backed away. Their plan seemed to have failed with how many of the birds Bastien and his team were able to take out.

"Heh! I knew you were bluffing! Take him out, Spice! Now's our chance!" Bastien pointed triumphantly towards Xatu, who was now wide open. Spice charged at him with a tiny little battle cry, hopping up and smacking Xatu in the face with her tail. Xatu flew back from the impact and rolled, unable to stay balanced. All of the birds around him were now in full panic. They hadn't expected such strong resistance! "Again, Spice! Finish him off!"

Xatu stood, watching as all of the Taillows and other birds all scattered, unwilling to stay any longer. "Oh, dear... That's not good... Scrawk!"

"You can bet your bird butt it's not! Open wide!" Spice charged once again, smacking Xatu and sending him flying into a tree so hard that he ricocheted back and came rolling towards Bastien. "Ah, crap, sorry Bassey!"

"WOAH-!" Bastien, only barely able to roll out of the way, clutched his head. "Sheeeesh, that was close! I almost dropped my--" Oh no. The incense! Looking towards where the Xatu had almost collided with him, Bastien saw smoke... And the shattered remains of his incense pot. "Aaaaah! My essence of manliness! It's totally smashed up!" He crawled over on his hands and knees, trying fruitlessly to piece the pot back together. Xatu, who'd been soundly defeated, laid by his side. "Oh, man... That thing costed a lot of money...!" He hadn't thought about it until just then, but Bastien blew all of his savings on the incense. It had been a very foolish decision, especially now that the incense was smashed up into an unusable state.

Noticing the disappointment in Bastien's eyes, Xatu huffed. "I am sorry you were tricked, young one, but this is for the best. Should we ever meet again, I will make it up to you." He quietly sat up, preparing to teleport away now that his flock was gone. "Until then, I bid you farewell. And stop buying things from shady street peddlers, skwaaawk!"

Xatu disappeared after that, leaving Bastien and Spice alone... Along with the shattered ceramic pot that once held his incense. So that was that... "Huh? what's that over there?" Glancing over to where Xatu was, Bastien noticed some sort of belt. "I-I wonder if this'll help me get manly?"

Spice giggled, shaking her head. "You're fine, Bassey. Let's just get to the next town, okay?" She pulled on her trainer's arm, urging him to get up and get going.

☆ ☆【 Well, it seemed that the incense’s scent was starting to die down a little, the rapid decrease in the presence of Dragon-types certainly indicated that much. Chrysa was thankful that they were out of that bind for the moment, this thing was a lot more trouble than it was worth. ” I’ll probably get rid of this once we get to town, no sense in keeping it around if it’s just going to draw too much unneeded attention to ourselves,” she said, giving a small smile towards Amaterasu, ” No offense, Ammy, this was a pretty good find, but it’s best that we not keep it around for too long, alright?” The Fennekin honestly felt a bit bad that this had been her fault, her ears flattened against her head and her tail tucked slightly. Maybe she should’ve just left that incense where it had been, though Chrysa didn’t seem all that upset about the whole thing. The little fire fox gave a small smile at her trainer’s reassuring statement, but agreed that it would be for the better if they just got rid of it entirely. On the other hand, Ryouichi was feeling significantly stronger after beating so many of those Dragon-types, he just might be able to evolve soon at this rate! In any case, Chrysa was certain that Roxas and Bastien were making their own ways towards Camphrier as she and her Pokemon companions moved along at a brisk pace. She looked skywards momentarily, blinking a bit as she noticed some sort of commotion going on with a bunch of bird Pokemon somewhere nearby. What in the world was going on over there? It certainly wasn’t natural to see so many different kinds of bird Pokemon flocking together in the same place at the same time… unless, perhaps someone else close by was also using one of these strange incenses? Though the birds seemed to be dispersing, apparently either having lost interest in whatever they’d been focused on, or someone had taken care of the situation.
” We’ll definitely need to be more careful if we find more of these…” she murmured, glancing down towards the purple incense pot that still rested in her lap. She guessed that it hadn’t been all that bad of an experience, she had gotten some more experience for Ryouichi as well as gaining a new Druddigon. She’d need to get it healed up soon though, which was why getting to Camphrier Town was top priority right now. She hadn’t seen any sign of Bastien or Roxas yet, she could only assume that they had already reached the town and were probably waiting on her. The thought spurred her to quicken her pace as she guided her wheelchair forward, the occasional puff of steam emanating from the vent as she rolled along. She almost didn’t notice the Tyrunt that had seized the opportunity for a sneak attack and come charging out from some nearby bushes towards them, until Ryouichi pounced right on it and dealt with it in seconds with another Icy Wind. ” Oh, wow, didn’t see that one coming…” Chrysa breathed a sigh of relief, grinning towards the Froakie, ” Thanks for the help, Ryou~” The Froakie looked back at her, smirking a bit as he nodded in response. He hoped that Grant would provide much more of a challenge when they would finally get around to battling him, these Dragon-types the incense was attracting were strong enough, but they were too easily defeated as far as he was concerned. Still, this was for the sake of training, which he supposed was good enough as it stood…
At least with not as many Dragon-types showing up, they could enjoy the trip to Camphrier in peace, somewhat. They would likely still get the occasional attacker, but it wasn’t anything that they wouldn’t be able to handle. Amaterasu kept up with her exploring, hoping to maybe find something else that could be of use for Chrysa. That strange incense had been quite a find, despite the consequences that they had learned about the hard way, she doubted she would be able to top something like that! However, something bright and shiny caught her attention as she saw it laying in a patch of grass nearby. Padding over towards it, the Fennekin gently nosed aside the stalks and her eyes instantly lit on a small, heart shaped scale that seemed to glimmer in colors of the rainbow along with a small purple stone similar to the one Spice had belched out after her chocolate binge earlier. She recognized it as one of those things that Chrysa used to help them learn new moves, since Ryouichi had used one not too long ago. Wagging her tail excitedly, she picked up the shimmering scale and the stone in her mouth and turned to bring it back to Chrysa, hopping along excitedly the whole way. ” Found something else, Ammy?” Chrysa asked with a chuckle as she noticed the Fennekin had gotten another item for her. The little fox yipped happily, gladly depositing them into her trainer’s hand. ” Ah, another Heart Scale, awesome~ And what’s this?” she asked, eyeing the stone that Amaterasu had given her curiously. She tried to recall what she had learned about it many years ago, she believed this little rock was called something like an Eviolite. Apparently if given to a Pokemon that hadn’t fully evolved to its final stage, it would make them more resilient to their opponent’s attacks. Quite an odd find, but she figured it could come in handy at some point in time. ” Thanks, Ammy~” she said with a smile, putting away the Eviolite into her bag for later use as she held out the Heart Scale, ” Here, ya can have this one if ya like, ya technically did find it first~” The Fennekin wagged her tail happily, scarlet eyes brightening at the prospect of getting the Heart Scale for herself. Yipping cheerfully, Amaterasu gazed intently at the scale in her trainer’s hand, wondering how she was supposed to use this thing. Was she supposed to eat it? What would it taste like? However, as she stared at the Heart Scale, something within her memory seemed to awaken as she recalled a small nugget of knowledge that she hadn’t even realized she had before. With that, the scale simply crumbled away into dust as its purpose was fulfilled, the leftovers blowing away in the breeze and drifting off to faraway lands. 】☆ ☆

With the incense dilemma solved, Bastien felt as though they'd wasted enough time. Ugh, Chrysa and Roxas were probably already to Cyllage, for all he knew! Hurrying through the woods and back onto Route 5, charging almost straight through Camphrier. "Hup, hup, hup, hup!" Oh, but wait... It might be good to organize his team a little. Stopping quickly, Bastien thought out his team composition... There were a few glaring flaws, and a few specific problems. Poison, Fairy, and Psychics would have a field day with his team. Once a few of his Pokemon evolved further, he'd have to worry about their types more. For now, though, Bastien could manage without having to do a complete overhaul. Distributing a few items and making sure everyone was alright, the green-haired boy continued through Camphrier at a quick pace, heading towards the cave that led to Cyllage City.

Spice followed, keeping up rather well despite her round form. "Slow the heck down...! It's a computer geek and a wheelchair-bound grease monkey we're talkin' about here, not olympic runners! For all we know, one of 'em has asthma or something!"

Bastien, sensing the distaste in Spice's squeaks, turned and scooped her up. "Well! In any case, if we meet them up ahead, that's great. But if we're ahead of them... Kehehe!" He grinned slyly, expecting more powerful Pokemon on the way to Cyllage. They'd be his for the taking! The less grinding Bastien and his team had to do to get stronger, the better. "Awright, let's hurry up and get through this cave--"

"Not so fast there, boy!"

"Ugh, what now?" Obviously displeased, Bastien turned. He saw a woman dressed in some sort of leotard posing next to a strong-looking Pokemon... A Machamp? Disregarding that, Bastien shook his head. "Lemme guess. You wanna battle?"

"Of course! I need some fodder to test out my darling Machamp's new move. You see, we just picked up some funny mushrooms from that cave. Both he and I ate one, and now we're ready to dance! Dance with me, Machamp, dear!" The two, just as she'd said, began to dance around... It was a little embarrassing to watch. Mid-pose, however, the woman stopped and pointed at Bastien. "Now! You must dance, as well! Show me what that fat little rodent can do!"

"Uh..." Well, Bastien wasn't going to disagree. That Machamp looked tough, but Bastien wasn't afraid. Nodding to Spice, Bastien backed up and set her down. "Fine by me. You ready, Spice?" The Marill nodded and stepped forward, staring down the large four-armed Pokemon.

"Excellent! Machamp, dear, get ready." The Machamp stretched out his arms and dropped into a little stance, but did not move. It simply stood and waited for Spice to strike...

Of course, Spice had no problem with this, and scoffed before charging up and smacking Machamp across the face with her tail. It didn't really seem to do much at all, though! "Whagh-? That Machamp is strong... It barely even flinched!"

"Oooohohoho! That's the power of my training methods! Go ahead, Machamp, show him more! Show him the new technique that you developed!" Nodding, the fearsome four-armed warrior flexed his arms... And then threw confetti into the air. Strangely, his movement was accompanied by some sort of fanfare that came from seemingly nowhere. Bastien seemed unimpressed... As did the Machamp's trainer. "...Oh, dear, that's not good. It seems I may have overwritten your other attack move with Encore, of all things. I think you still have Mimic, at least..." Blushing now, the older-looking woman tapped away at her Pokedex before grumbling. "I-it's okay, Machamp! Maybe that little fat rat will just tire itself out!"

That wouldn't be happening anytime soon. Spice attacked again and again, putting up with the Machamp's strange antics. It made weird faces at her, threw more confetti, did weird jumping butt-attacks in an attempt to mimic Spice, and even tickled her! This guy really was a freak! "Hands off, weirdo! Tickling's reserved for my future husband that I don't know yet!" Breathing heavily now yet still not ready to give up, Spice attacked again... And again... And again. Finally, her attacks seemed to chip away at the Machamp's vigor. The mighty- or not so mighty- Pokemon staggered and fell to one knee before raising one arm in submission.

"Okay, okay, that's enough! You got us! Drat, I may need to go and grab another mushroom from that damp old cave..." Muttering more things under her breath, the woman snapped to get her Machamp to follow before heading towards the Pokemon Center. She left Bastien standing there, confused and a bit disturbed.

"...Let's... Get going before any more strange people show up."

Weird Dancing Trainer challenged Bastien to a battle!

How was she supposed to know where exactly her fellow techhead was if she couldn’t call the woman? Well, she guessed she could send out a call to Bastien if all else failed, he probably was well on his way to Camphrier now since they had parted ways temporarily back in South Lumiose. With the incense’s scent starting to die down significantly, the way to Camphrier was more or less clear for them. Of course, they would still get the occasional straggler who tried to lash out at them, but Ryouichi had them well covered as it stood. Continuing to roll along at a brisk pace, Chrysa hoped that Bastien and Roxas wouldn’t be too far up ahead, she certainly wouldn’t want them waiting too long for her to catch up with them. Keeping one hand on the maneuvering lever to keep the wheelchair on course, Chrysa brought up her Xtransceiver to try to send out a message to Bastien and get a confirmation on where he was. However, she paused when she saw that there was a message left by her grandmother, and decided to check that out first to see what Irene had sent back. ” My dearest Chrysanthemum, I’m glad to hear that you’ve arrived in Kalos in good condition! I know that traveling out by sea isn’t how you would have preferred to get there, but it’s good to know that you’re safe and sound! Oh! Before I forget, I dropped off a few new Pokemon for you into the new Daycare system, and you can access it using only your Pokedex if you’d like! Just thought I’d let you know so that you can keep that in mind, and these new Pokemon are available for you to pick up at your own convenience. ” Heh, nice to know Grandmama’s still looking out for me even from a million miles away~” she commented with a chuckle as she closed the message. She then made to access her contacts list to give Bastien a quick call, but a noise from close by grabbed her attention before she could do so. ” Another one of them, I’m assuming,” she said, figuring that the incense had one last trick to throw at them while it still had some juice left in it. Sure enough, yet another Tyrunt came tearing out of the thicket from nearby, the little dinosaur baring its teeth and stomping its large feet in an attempt at intimidation. Ryouichi, however, remained unimpressed as he casually blew another gust of freezing wind in the Tyrunt’s direction. The dinosaur stood no chance against it, falling where it stood within seconds with small frosty patches left on its hide. ” Great job, Ryou~ That Icy Wind of yours is proving to be quite handy to have around!” Chrysa commented with a grin, ” We’re sure to give Grant a run for his money at this rate~” Sure enough, it didn’t take long for them to reach Camphrier at the pace they were going. The redhead slowed down a bit as they entered the place, glancing around the general area in search of any signs of her companions. Bastien’s green hair would be unmistakable to find, and Roxas’s outfit was certainly quite characteristic enough to stand out in a crowd. Chrysa frowned when she found that she couldn’t find neither hide nor hair of her two companions, had they already gone on ahead to Cyllage?
” Guess we better keep going then, knowing them they could be well on their way to the next town…” she muttered as they continued through Camphrier. It would make sense for them to press on ahead, especially since they could find much stronger Pokemon to battle on the way through to Cyllage. If her map told her correctly, their goal now was to get through Connecting Cave, which would be a surefire path that would take them straight to the next town from here. Heading out of town, Chrysa and her team kept pushing forward to get to Connecting Cave in hopes to catch up with their companions. Speaking of which… she still needed to get ahold of Bastien to check up on him and maybe figure out where he was. Pulling up her Xtransceiver once again, Chrysa pulled up Bass’s contact information and pressed the messaging button. Once it was prepared to record, the redhead held the device up closer to speak into the mic. ” Heya Bass! Hope your training’s going well~ Things have been a bit crazy on my end, and I have no idea of how to contact Roxas since I didn’t get her number… Anyways, I’m not sure of if you’re in Camphrier or if you’re already on your way to Cyllage, I kinda lost track of ya guys… Dunno if Roxas is with ya or not, but if we all don’t end up meeting somewhere along the way, then we’ll likely rendezvous in Cyllage. See ya soon!” she said, ending the message as it was then sent on its way to Bastien’s Holo Caster. With that taken care of, they soon reached the entrance that would take them into Connecting Cave, and Cyllage was just on the other side of here. Chrysa felt a bit nervous as she gazed into the darkness of the cave… Caves had never really been her favorite places to be either, along with dark forests and in the middle of the ocean. There was just so much that could happen in places like this, and the creepy stories she had read about that took place in these kinds of setting more or less didn’t ease her fears. ” It’ll be okay… I have a flashlight mechanism built into this thing for situations just like this!” she reassured herself with a small smile as she glanced between her Pokemon present, ” Besides, I have you guys to help keep me safe if anything happens, there’s absolutely nothing to worry about~” With that information in mind and hope in her heart, Chrysa and her team proceeded into the damp darkness of Connecting Cave. 】☆ ☆

Slowing as he reached Camphrier Town, Marx groaned, placing a hand on his grumbling stomach. He definitely needed to get some food... but first! He pulled out his holo caster, sighing when he didn't see any messages from Alexandra or Cheria. Hopefully they were both still alright... maybe he'd message them again soon, to check in. He blinked, though, as he noticed a message from Rose, a big grin crossing his face as he started walking through the town, Flygon still soaring up above. She said that they would meet at the pokecenter... so once he got there-- just a little ways left to go! -- he would make sure to meet them there.

Marx was in the midst of buying a sandwich and soda from a local deli when his holo caster went off. He blinked, scrambling to quickly finish the transaction, thanking the cashier and jogging out. He dropped into a seat at one of the outside tables, taking a bite of his sandwich and setting his soda down, curiously pulling out his holo caster to check who had messaged him. He grinned when he saw that it was Cheria, shifting to straighten up in his seat, glad she was alright, and still coming.

He set down his sandwich, holding his holo castor up so that he could reply. "Hey! I'm glad you're on your way! I'm in... Camphrier Town, I think it's called. I had to stop to get something to eat. Want me to get you something? Let me know when you get close-- I'll wait for you here or in Connecting Cave. Just in case, we're meeting my friends at the pokecenter in Cyllage, but I'll try and do some training so that you can catch up. See you soon, Cheria!" He sent the message, once again excited. He couldn't wait to see his friends, and to get to introduce Cheria to them. He knew she probably wouldn't want to stay long, but still, he looked forward to getting to make the introduction, and hopefully she could hang out in the future.

And in the meantime, he would try and take his time eating his sandwich.

Well, she made it to Camphrier. She and Sheena and Lupup. At first look, she couldn't see Marx. Either he blended into the people of the town, he'd gone ahead, or he was just out of sight from where she was. Taking out her holo caster, she decided to send him a message. "Hey, Marx....Sorry for blowing up your inbox. But, I'm here in Camphrier. Did you go on ahead, or are you still here?" That was a lame message. She could be more excited, right? In all honesty, it was probably because she totally forgot to eat back at home and she was so close to Cyllage now. Hunger and mental discomfort were a bad combination. "Let me know, okay? I definitely need to get something eat before catching up with you anyway. Forgot about that when I visited Dad."

Marx set his holo caster down once the message was sent to Cheria and continued eating his sandwich. Only a moment later, though, he got another message, blinking and looking down at it. Chewing his sandwich and swallowing, he set his sandwich down, grabbing his soda as he opened the message to listen to it. He blinked when she mentioned leaving Santalune, raising his eyebrows as he drank his soda, then quickly setting that aside. Oh, wow, she was already heading to Lumoise? Then she'd probably be here soon!

He was contemplating a response when Flygon dropped down beside him, chirruping happily and shoving him lightly with her head. He grinned, reaching up to pat her head, then blinking when she suddenly grabbed his soda-- luckily it was capped-- and took off, cooing happily. "H-hey! Flygon!" He quickly scrambled up, grabbing his sandwich and shoving it into hsi mouth as he ran after his pokemon.

The chase took... a terribly long time. Marx was panting by the time he dropped down on a bench, his sandwich long since eaten, the soda held in his hand. Flygon had... apparently enjoyed the game, landing beside him with another happy trill. After downing his soda, he pulled up his holo caster again, this time hoping to reply to Cheria's message. Before he could, though, he received another message, and blinked when itwas from Cheria as well. He straightened up when she mentioned being in Camphrier, looking around with wide eyes, as if expecting to immediately see her. He looked back down at the device, then stood up, starting a response.

"Hey Cheria! Sorry I didn't get to reply to your other message-- Flygon stole my soda and I had to chase him down. Heh, it took a while... Sorry. But I'm still in Camphrier! I was just about to head to Connecting Cave! I'll meet you at the edge of town, leading towards Cyllage, alright? Feel free to get yourself some food first!" he replied, grinning and sending the message. He took out his map, checking his location, and then taking off towards the edge of town. He'd wait till she got there, then they could head to Connecting Cave together, and hopefully go meet up with his friends!

Cheria was already at the deli and ready to get something to eat to tide her over when she got a message from Marx. Well, she could eat as she walked. It was just a sandwich and a bottle of iced tea. After buying her small meal, she and her two shadows headed for the exit to Connecting Cave. Her sandwich was gone in a few short minutes, but she took her time with the tea. Iced tea was one of her favorites. It wasn't long before she spotted Marx and she smiled. "Hey! Marx!" "Froakie!" Sheena darted forward to meet up with him, and Cheria went to follow until she saw Lupup staring at Marx curiously. "You...don't trust humans, do you? Hm....Well, you don't have to worry. Marx and I won't hurt you. But, do you want to go back in your Poké Ball?" "Pup." He walked passed Cheria and slowly made his way to Marx, Cheria following after she sighed a bit. Marx reached the edge of town, finishing off his soda and throwing the bottle away. Flygon was soaring up ahead, singing and calling out happily. He laced his fingers behind his head, looking up and watching her, smiling a bit. It was almost like she knew they were going to see their friends... Or maybe she did know? Felix might have told her, after all. It would explain why she was so excited, and playful. She was almost as bad as he was, with all that energy.

His gaze lowered when he heard his name, a bright grin crossing his face as he spotted Cheria. "Hey!" he greeted in return, lifting a hand to wave. He shifted and knelt down as Sheena darted over, laughing and reaching a hand out to pet her. "Hey Sheena!" he greeted, by some miracle remembering her name, considering how bad he could be with those. "Geruuu!" Flygon greeted swooping down to land beside Cheria as she came over.

Marx blinked, tilting his head as his gaze shifted to the new pokemon with Cheria, looking at him curiously, and offering his hand for him to sniff. "You got a new pokemon?" he asked, looking back up to Cheria, while Flygon nudged the girl, smiling her own happy, excited grin.

Sheena smiled as she was petted, glad he'd remembered her name. She was aware Marx was a dunce. Or, at least, very silly. "Kie!" Cheria smiled at Sheena as she jumped to sit on her head again, and then looked at Marx when he mentioned Lupup. "Yeah. He doesn't have a name yet, but he's a Lupup. The first I've ever seen. But....I don't think he likes people very much." Cheria laughed a bit as Flygon nudged her, and let the flying Pokémon gently. "Hey there. Good to see you again, Flygon." Lupup looked up at Cheria and Flygon, completely ignorig Marx's offered hand. He wasn't interested in being friendly with the human boy. Not really anyway. But, seeing Cheria greet and pet Flygon made him jealous, and he barked up at her. "Huh?...Do you want attention, too?" "Pup!" What was with Lupup? He was just uncaring, and even a little hostile, a little bit ago. Now he was all "love me"....Oh, no. Was Lupup a "tsundere" personality? It was a term used in anime and manga mostly, but it still applied, didn't it? Did she even use the right term? Cheria wasn't a huge anime and manga fan. Kneeling, she pet Lupup gently, which seemed to make him incredibly happy and even affectionate. He licked her hand and wagged his tail. He was a tsundere personality, wasn't he? "So....Should we get going?"

Marx looked up at Cheria as she replied, then down at the pup, his arm rested on his knee with his hand still stretched out. "Huh... I've never heard of that either," he remarked, looking down at the pokemon. He lowered his hand as the Lupup's attention was drawn back to Cheria when she gave Flygon a pat. The dragon pokemon cooed happily, then glanced down in surprise at the Lupup. She churred curiously, leaning down to bring her head level with it, but looked over as Marx hopped up straight.

"Yeah, let's go!" the brunette eagerly agreed, and Flygon gave a happy cheer as well, taking off into the sky. "C'mon!" And with that, Marx took off towards the cave, grinning in excitement at the renewed idea, and the increasing anticipation, of getting to see his friends again.
