Luckily, Mary Lee was able to get the hang of using the heart scale fairly quickly, and soon learned Lava Plume. Jay considered whether to teach her Earth Power as well, but ultimately decided not to, at least for the time being. She was likely going to learn another ground type attack fairly soon, and Magnitude, honestly, could do quite a bit of damage, even if it was by chance.
While he was preoccupied with Mary Lee, Mime Jr stood up, noticing another pokemon approaching Mawile and Machop. Both the other two pokemon took notice just as it was getting near, dropping into battle positions, but, from her slightly further location, Mime Jr attacked first, taking it out with Psybeam. She buffed her chest out proudly as they both blinked and looked at her, exchanging looks, and then shrugs. Mime Jr deflated a bit at their lack luster responses. She thought it was pretty cool...

Now that Mary Lee had learned Lava Plume, Jay's focus shifted back towards his other pokemon and the sound of encroaching opponent...s. Jay frowned, quickly moving over as what seemed to be a small herd of pokemon came tumbling out of the grass. His pokedex identified them all as Stunky. "U-uuhh, Jay! I don't think they're planning on each waiting their turn!" Mimey piped up, stepping back. Jay frowned, turning his head down slightly to listen. "Mary Lee, y'mind helpin' out with uh Magnitude?" he asked. "Sure Jay!" the numel happily complied, practically dancing forward, the other pokemon hurriedly making way as she reared up, then slammed, hard on the ground, rocking the ground and nearly causing her allies to tumble over from the force. She perked up after the quaking had stopped, scurrying over to see if the K.O.ed Stunky were alright.

At the rate the Hawlucha were showing up, Jay was getting the very (incorrect) impression that they were really quite common. He frowned as his pokedex identified yet another one, letting Mawile take it out again. He went ahead and released Quena from her pokeball, sitting down next to the-- apparently-- sound asleep pokemon, who remained curled up on the ground, just a little ball of fur, next to him. He crossed his legs and closed his eyes, listening with his pokedex on his lap. At least all his pokemon were getting a chance to get out... even if some of them weren't taking full advantage of it.

While Mime Jr scurried over to take care of another poison pokemon that appeared, the others all lounged around. Quena suddenly perked up, her little nose twitching, and then bounded away into the grass. Jay turned his head slightly to listen, but didn't go after her; he'd sort of caught on that she was prone to doing this, and unless she needed help, he'd let her. Meanwhile, Mawile was standing with his arms crossed over his chest, waiting for another pokemon he could defeat, and Machop took her post beside him, watching him out of the corner of her eye, hands on her hips. "You're pretty tough!" she commented suddenly. He quirked an eyebrow, bowing his head a bit and looking up at her. "You could probably beat me!" she added with a grin, thrusting a thumb at her chest, "And that's saying something!""Ah..." What was he supposed to say to that? He looked, mouth open, then glanced off to the side. "Th... thanks..."

The quiet was interrupted by wailing squeaks and screechy sounds. Jay jerked in surprise but quickly stood up, moving towards the sound, with Mime Jr and Mary Lee close behind. He was almost positive this was the direction Quena had gone.... He came to a stop as something suddenly came out of the tall grass, hit his leg, and bounced off, rolling away. It was the source of the sounds, and now that it was close enough, he could barely make out it was two Dedenne, fighting, apparently. One gave a final squeak and bounded off, retreating. Quena seemed to brush herself off, then walked over to Jay, who had froze, not wanting to step on the two, and tugged at his pants leg. "Ya... ya alrigh', Quena...?" he asked, kneeling down. "De," she replied simply, placing something in his hand, then climbing her way up to his shirt, and slipping under his vest to hide in his breast pocket again. He blinked a few times, then stood up, feeling what it was she'd handed him. Was this... an exp share...?

Shaking his head, Jay turned to go back to his spot, but stopped as an odd sensation over came him. It was... odd, ineffable, not a physical feeling, but rather like an impression. As though someone were standing behind him, though he couldn't hear or feel them. Zoey picked up something was wrong and started squeaking, in a particular direction, constantly-- but he wasn't picking up anything strange. "... It uh ghost type, Mahmy?" he asked, frowning. 'Huh? Oh, yeeeaah... Who do you want to take it out, Jay?" she asked, staring at the Golett looming less than an inch above the ground, watching them. "Machop, why don' you get this 'un," she suggested, nodding his head. The fighting pokemon nodded, turning, and darting over, lashing out with a Knock Out attack. "Might as well catch it," he muttered to himself, as Machop took a hit, and retaliated to finish it off, while he reached for a pokeball.

Settling down again, Jay took a seat, turning his head a bit as he heard Mime Jr make her way back on over to take a seat next to her. He kept his pokedex propped up as before, his arm un his up-bent knee, so that he could read any approaching pokemon. And, indeed, he could hear one nearing, turning his pokedex in that direction, and soon getting a reading as it came into view, that it was a Houndour. "Miss Machop, whai don' you get that'un," he suggested. Machop grinned, pounding a fist into the palm of her hand, and turned, sprinting for the-- now suddenly quite terrified-- houndour and swiftly taking it down with a good Low Sweep.

"Hey Mahmy," he spoke up, and the psychic-fairy pokemon looked curiously over at him, "Ah was wonderin'... Y'ever think 'bout evolvin'?" Mime Jr perked up. By the way, can Ralward come out now?' she asked, hopping to her feet and bringing her hands together in a pleading motion, even though her trainer couldn't really see it. He frowned. "Ah... s'pose. Got uh lotta pokemon out, though, so y'all gotta help me keep 'n eye on 'em, alright?" he negotiated. She nodded. 'Okay!' He reached for Ralts' pokeball, releasing the psychic-fairy, who was immediately dragged a little ways away and quickly lost in a flurry of conversation from his friend. Wailing, Mary Lee came hurrying over, flailing her little legs as she rain. Jacque jerked his head up, frowning and setting the book aside to move onto his knees. He reached out, softening the blow of Mary Lee nearly throwing herself into him in distress, then wrapping his arms gently around her. "Whaddin thuh hell.." he muttered. "She was poisoned, Jay," Mime Jr called over, "One of the Stunky got her." He frowned, gently stroking Mary Lee's head to try and calm her down. "Ahm gonna go 'head 'n return ya, alright Mary Lee? Try 'n rest, ah'll try not t'need ya fer any more battles till we getcha healed, alright?" he asked. "Nuuuum..." the pokemon cried softly, leaning against him. He braced against the weight, quickly grabbing her pokeball and returning her, before she could potentially knock them both over. With Mary Lee safely tucked away in her pokeball, Jay went back to reading. Or... tried to, at least. He could hear a large fluttering of wings, and quickly lifted his pokedex in that direction. Mime Jr was already hopping up to handle the group of flying pokemon, but he held a hand up. "Hold on, Mahmy," he called, trying to gesture her back. He bowed his head down a bit, reaching under his vest to lightly tap the small bundle in his shirt pocket. "Hey Quena, ya up fer another battle? It'll be easy fer ya," he urged. The little mouse pokemon popped up, looking sleepily ahead, then eying the flock of birds. She shimmied her way out of the pocket, hopped down, and began bounding her way over. As she ran, electricity started gathering around her, gaining with each leap. Suddenly, she sprung from the ground towards one of the Starly, and all the pokemon watched with awe as she began ricocheting through the air, slamming like a ping pong ball from one distressed bird to the other as they tried to scatter and flee. She landed on the ground, the electricity dispersed, amidst a pile of unconscious Starly, and, with half open eyes, bounded her way back to Jay, who picked her up, and placed her back into his pocket.

Accepting his pokemon's victory with far more nonchalance than those who actually witnessed the ping pong match of death, Jay walked over and sat back down. He picked up his book, sitting straight with his head lifted as he ran his fingers over the brail, listening as he read. He didn't hear the next pokemon approach, because it essentially levitated its way over, but at some point, he did hear the faint hum of it making a noise, and lifted his head up further. "Mahmy, y'mind?" he asked. 'Sure Jay.' Mime Jr stood up, looking over at the pokemon, then, "Molly, go take that down!" Mawile looked at her, his head tilted strongly to one side with an annoyed expression on his face. "My name's not--""Use Bite!" Mawile raised his shoulders and dropped his head, glaring at her, but turned, running and leaping up, biting down hard on the pokemon. It wasn't enough to take it out, but after enduring an attack, used one more Bite to finish it off, allowing Jay to toss a pokeball and catch it.

Jay remained quiet as he read, his pokemon settling down a bit after the Sigilyph was caught, and the area quieted. "Y'know ah was thinkin', Mawile," he remarked, leaning back on one hand with his head tilted slightly, his fingers still going over the brail on the page, "How's Gamma, as uh nickname?" The steel-fairy blinked, and Machop looked at him curiously. Even Mime Jr cast a wondering gaze his direction, evidently interested in his reaction. "Maw... wile," the pokemon supposed, rubbing his chin thoughtfully. "That mean yer alright withit?" Jay asked with a smirk of amusement. "Wile," the pokemon confirmed, giving an added nod for emphasis, even if it went mostly unseen. Jay gave a smile in return. "Well alright. Machop, y'mind takin' out that Electrike?" he inquired. The fighting pokemon uncrossed her arms, turning to see the electric pokemon emerged. She blinked a bit, glancing back at him, but turned to face off with her opponent, lowering herself in a ready position.

Jay leaned back, pulling his vest away but keeping his head up as he felt Quena stir in his pocket. She suddenly climbed out, apparently waking up with energy, and darted off. He shook his head a bit, but then turned to listen towards Machop's direction. "Machop, why don' you come ova here so ah can heal ya real quick?" he offered. The fighting pokemon gratefully walked over, letting him use a few potions so she could get back to full health. While Quena was off wandering, though, she encountered an odd pokemon, and after looking at it a moment, promptly zapped it, deciding not to take any risks, before carrying on about her way.

Because she was hurt, Jay only had Mary Lee come out for a moment to quickly use Magnitude to be rid of the next Electrike, and, despite her injury, K.O. it instantly. He immediately returned her, thanking her and letting her go back to resting. He really would need to make a trip to the pokecenter fairly soon. Mary Lee needed healing, and his other pokemon likely would need it as well, after a few more battles. He didn't have unlimited potions or anything, after all. When the Houndour showed up next, he let Machop take it out, too, while he tried to focus on his reading.
