Vince grew more uncomfortable as Olivia began to prod him for his averse reaction, tensing as she asked if he was sure it wasn't necessary to dress in a kimono. "Yes, I'm quite certain." He insisted stubbornly, an irritated edge to his tone, especially since she continued to drag the subject on, talking about how easy it would be to have one air mailed, or how they could probably buy one at the stores around the area. It was embarrassing, or at least the idea of her trying to dress up for him was anyways. He was sure she looked lovely in a kimono, probably picturesque for Ecruteak as she claimed, but he was hardly looking for that sort of attention. Growing up in a rather modest culture, he just couldn't help reacting the way he had. That just wasn't something normal strangers did. Where did she get off offering something so... So... The more he thought about it and the more she prodded, the more uncomfortable and irritated he got. The fact that she matched his pace just to get a good look at his somewhat reddened face was all the more humiliating.
Thankfully she eventually backed off, and the subject changed to something more tolerable, like why they had each come to Kalos. He was quite surprised when Olivia spoke in French, but it was useful for a place like Kalos, he had to admit. He nodded appreciatively when she extended an offer to translate for him if he needed, and then explained his own half truths for coming to Kalos. He had wanted a change of scenery, sure, but that wasn't the main motivation. He wasn't sure why he was lying about it. He had lied to Cheria too, now that he thought about it, but this was a clan ordeal, and while he could certainly complain about his issues with the elder's teachings, he knew better, and felt obligated not to go blabbing secret teachings to complete strangers. Frankly he was just relieved Olivia so readily accepted his explanation as Cheria had. Though she seemed to be more focused on the fact that a charmander fit him more as a starter than anything else. Vince chuckled a bit at that. "No, that doesn't seem weird at all. I thought so too." He agreed. Well, that and it was the only other starter aside from treeko that had draconic blood running through its veins, and he'd inherited it's megastone.
Goodness Cayenne was a cutie. Lin smiled as the cyndaquil nodded in understanding after her explanation of megas, and asked how long she and Vince had been partners. Lin had to give that one a bit of thought. ('Mmm.... I believe we're coming up on our fourth year together?') She hummed thoughtfully, giving Cayenne words of encouragement and a loving nuzzle, which proved to be quite effective, as the fire type squeaked and promised to train hard. ('I'm glad~') Lin chuckled. Vince meanwhile was rather enjoying his conversation of food names and their uses/rarity, as well as when to ask someone for a photo. All somewhat mundane topics, but enjoyable nonetheless. Olivia seemed to almost want him to take her picture though with the way she suggested he was free to ask her now that they knew each others names. "Heh. I'll keep that in mind then." He suggested back, matching her playful tone. She seemed rather interested in the chance to see some of Viola's photography though, so Vince asked if she was an enthusiast. The answer was somewhat obvious but he asked anyways, interested in what she had to say on the subject. "Mm." He voiced his agreement. Photography was certainly a great art, forever capturing and preserving precious memories that the mind was not always sharp enough to keep. A noble pursuit for certain. He hoped Cheria would continue it as well.
Approaching the gym, it seemed they would get the chance to observe some of Viola's paintings, since while Olivia wasn't quite ready to battle the gym leader, she was interested in taking a look around the gym, as was Vince. It was funny since she had suggested looking inside when he had been thinking of suggesting the same. "Heh. I suppose so. After you." Vince agreed when Olivia suggested it was because great minds thought alike, holding the door open for her so they could look inside. The whole area was like an art museum, which was host to some wonderful photographed shots of Viola's battles. As he and Olivia perused the area though, Vince couldn't help but notice that there didn't seem to really be a battling area. "Vous cherchez l'entrée de la salle de gym?" A male voice spoke up in French. Vince glanced over at the museum curator who smiled politely, pointing to a hole in the floor nearby. "Tous les combats sont effectués ci-dessous. Viola vous y accueillera." He continued to talk in French. Listening to the words themselves, Vince heard something about combat and Viola. Given that the man was pointing to the hole, as he said this, and his tone seemed to be inviting rather than warning them away, Vince could piece together the gist of what the man had said without Olivia's help. "I'm guessing he's telling us that Viola is through there?" Vince asked the pinkette. He was certain that was the case, but he wanted to be sure. "I know we're not going to fight her now, but I'd be interested in taking a look at the arena so that I can get a feel for where I'll be fighting, and train accordingly. Knowing the terrain in which one battles is most useful information...." He mused, peering down the hole.
Was she a bad person? Probably. "Okaaay," Olivia crossed her hands behind her head, grin still glaringly apparent, as Vince insisted that he was certain. "But if you ever change your mind, just tell me." She couldn't help but tease him, not when he was giving such great, out of character, responses. The woman would have never pegged Vince as the type of guy to be so easily put out of place by a bit of teasing. In all honesty, she didn't couldn't understand what the big deal was, it was just clothing, but out of respect to his, obvious, discomfort she let the conversation die there... after one comment. "Red's a good color on you, Vince," she mused, laughing quietly.
While Vince recovered Olivia looked around the city, harmless interest in her eyes. Even when she was having fun with Vince, she couldn't forget why she was actually here. So far she hadn't seen any signs of Team Flare, though she doubted they'd be out there in droves, but she was going to keep an eye out, just in case. Of course, she could multi-task too, so while she looked around she continued her conversation with Vince. She was glad he didn't find it weird that she thought a Charmander suited him, she couldn't put her finger on it.. not yet at least, but she was even more pleased that he actually agreed. "Well, I'm glad I wasn't the only one," she chirped.
Cayenne seemed rather awed into silence when she was informed of how long Lin and Vince had been together, "that's a long time," she commented thoughtfully. "I bet you've seen all kinds of pokemon, and been on all sorts of adventures!" Could she and her trainer work together for that long? She certainly hoped so, they could go on so many adventures together! It was another item to add onto her bucket list, right underneath mega evolving. "Thank you, Lin!" she thanked the Sceptile, not wanting to forget her manners.
It was nice to just have a random topic to keep up with, a light conversation that both participants could remain playful, which was exactly what she and Vince were doing right now. "Glad to hear it," she replied simply, happy to hear that he would, at the very least, keep her 'offer' in mind. The topic remained on photography, though it eventually turned to their opinions on it, and art itself, and Olivia openly admitted her, obvious, love of the former. "They're great," she summed up, her mind now revolving around all these photography. "And it's great that Viola was able to combine her two passions the way she did."
It didn't take long before they were able to see Viola's work in person, the building that served as both an art gallery and a gym fast approaching. It seemed that both trainers had the same, neither quite prepared to battle Viola but curious enough to wander in, and Olivia gave a nod of thanks when Vincent opened the door for her. It was an interesting sight, though she couldn't help but observe that it was more 'gallery' than it was a gym, but at the very least the pictures they hosted were worth giving a few looks over. Olivia was busy looking over at another picture, this one between a Chespin and Surskit, the little chipmunk given a valiant effort despite its injuries, when a voice spoke out. She looked up, eyes searching the area, and found the museum curator nearby. "Oh, euh, oui," she confirmed, nodding her head. Following his direction the woman found herself looking at a hole in the floor, her head nodding as she absently listened to his instructions, "Je vous remercie," she thanked him, then turned to Vince, ready to explain.
It didn't seem necessary, however, as Vince seemed to have been able to piece together the information on his own. Though he wanted to be sure. "Yup," she confirmed, and leaned over to look down the hole where Viola awaited them. "I wonder how you get back up..." she thought aloud, eyes still directed downward. "Sure, I wouldn't mind! It's always good to know what you're dealing with beforehand." Olivia straightened up before stepping back, gesturing towards the hole with a smile. "After you."

It wasn't anything serious that he would hold against her, but he was getting quite irritated. If it weren't for the context she was using it in and the obvious implications she was making though, he would have agreed. He did really like red, it showed in his attire and the dyed portion of his hair. Lin chuckled as Cayenne suggested that she and Vince had probably been through many adventures. ('Ah well... I wouldn't say we've had adventures in the action packed sense. We have been through a lot together though, and seen many pokemon, though there is still much to see, do, and learn.') She said sagely. ('After all, life itself is one big adventure, and ours has only just begun.') Lin chuckled, happy to encourage the cyndaquil. ('You are quite welcome little one.')
Vince wasn't quite sure why it seemed Olivia wanted him to take her picture. She certainly liked hinting at the prospect, but now that he'd calmed down from being teased about kimonos, he was more than happy to playfully suggest that he'd keep the thought in mind. Though his tone hinted at sarcasm, because he didn't really have any plans or reason to take her picture at the moment, he was honest in that he would remember that should he ever need or want to take her picture that her offer still stood. Upon admiring the photos in Viola's gallery, Olivia seemed appreciative of both the art and the fact that Viola had been able to combine both her love of photography and battling. "Mm. She is certainly living the dream." He agreed. Their art admiration was interrupted briefly though when the curator spoke to them. Though it was in French, hearing select words that were similar to their English translations and using a bit of old fashioned perception to figure everything out himself. He still checked with Olivia to make sure he'd come to the right conclusion, but Vince was pretty good at reading people, it was part of his training, so he was confident that he was correct. They peered down the hole, and Olivia wondered aloud how one got back up. "Well I doubt they would have a pit in the middle of a gym museum to trap people with, so I'm sure there's some way." He remarked.
Squatting down and examining the hole closer, he was able to make out a bottom that looked like a large spiderweb, and asked if she would be up for exploring the arena they would be battling in. Olivia agreed, though apparently that meant he was going in first. Vince gave her a sarcastic look. He didn't mind going first, but the fact that she was so willingly offering him up first to the long drop was not amusing. With a sigh, Vince stood and returned his pokemon for the jump, took a step back, and then gave the hole a running start before diving in feet first without any hesitation. It was honestly rather exciting, and Vince felt breathless as he sailed through the air. Once he landed, Vince braced himself with a grunt, feeling himself sink into whatever terrain had caught him and then bounce back up and down a bit. Vince glanced back up to the ceiling and waved to Olivia. "Looks like its some kind of big trampoline...!" Vince called up to her before taking another look around, stepping forward so that Olivia could come down as well without falling on him, though Vince was sure that given the opportunity she would have done it anyways. As he walked though, a young boy approached Vince with a challenging leer in his eye. "Hey mister! You here to see Viola?" He asked, surprising Vinve with his English. "You aren't speaking in French?" The boy smirked. "Nah. You're not from around here, I can tell, so English was a better choice. So we gonna battle or what?" Once again Vince was surprised by how up front the boy was being. "Very well. I suppose we could use the training." Vince shrugged, tossing out Huang Chen's pokeball after the youngster had sent out a Sewaddle. "Just a scratch Huang Chen." Vince insisted. The sewaddle was quite weak looking, and any of her other attacks would be too rough on the frail caterpillar. A simple scratch would do the job nicely.

Olivia had figured she'd milked the 'kimono talk' for all its worth, her laughter finally dying out, when Vince snapped at her, unnerved by her comment about red being a particular favorable color on him. Her pupils dilated in surprise before she placed a hand around her mouth, just in time to stifle a fit of giggles. Vince was too great to tease, in fact the only thing his outburst assured was that he'd be teased in the distant future, maybe not about kimonos but something else, maybe a yukata, or something as simple as a dress. "S-sorry, sorry. I-I'll stop now!" she promised, between her titters of merriment. Cayenne looked up at her trainer, both curious and confused at just what exactly she found so funny, before she turned back to look at Lin. "You can have your adventure now then!" she pointed out, excited for Lin and Vince. She grew quiet when the Sceptile grew philosophical on her, doing her best to listen before she gave a discerning nod of the head. She tilted her head to the side, trying to see if she could come up with any sort of thought-provoking comment, but shrugged when she found herself unable to. "What are you looking forward to the most?" she asked, still curious about all things Lin.
Even if she hadn't been completely serious when she'd made the offer, if the opportunity ever presented itself Olivia would be more than willing. Though, at the moment, she couldn't see that happening. Even if Vince promised to keep the offer in mind, she couldn't imagine him suddenly turning around and asking for a picture. The art that surrounded the two certainly put her in a photographic mood, though not as the focal point, but rather the one behind the shutter. Though she doubted her photos would turn out quite as professional as Viola's. "Mhm," Olivia hummed. It was almost a shame, but before they could continue farther into the gallery, the curator of the gallery stepped up, asking if they were here to see Viola. Perhaps it was the group of pokemon that traveled with them that gave it away? Whatever the reason, the man was kind enough to point in the direction that led to the gym leader. It was an actual hole in the ground, with no apparent way to get back up, which was a mild concern to the officer. "True. Maybe we'll have to battle a few trainers to get the answer," she joked.
Although now curious about the layout of the gym below, she felt it only fair that Vince find out first, seeing as how he was the one who'd offered they should go. The man... didn't seem to impressed by her suggestion and gave her a sarcastic look, to which Olivia responded to with an oblivious smile and another beckon for him to go ahead; it didn't always have to be 'ladies first'. She watched as her companion returned his pokemon before taking a running jump down the hole. She shuffled forward, head bent down to watch as Vince fell for a bit before he was caught, and then popped up into the air a few millimeters. Olivia waved back at him, blinking when he reported that the ground below was sort of a trampoline. "Sounds like fun!" she called back. She waited until the man had moved out of sight, her cue to come down, before she returned her pokemon to their capsules. There was a moment of uncertainty that passed through the woman as she stood at the edge, but she quickly swallowed whatever fear she held and hopped down. The sound of air whipping past her filled her ears, and a sense of thrill ran up her spine.
Her flightless trip lasted no more than a few seconds before it was over, her feet finding the ground and then promptly sinking down into, before she was repelled back into the air. A breathless laugh escaped Olivia once she was firmly settled on the ground, and after a cautionary step forward she began to move, eyes peeled for Vince. It didn't take long to find the male, and to her surprise she found that he wasn't alone, now joined by a boy and his pokemon. The pinkette crossed her arms before she moved into a position to watch the battle. For a moment she considered cheering the male on, but decided against it. It could prove distracting, and that was the last thing she wanted, and so she contented herself with simply preparing a 'congratulations' for him and his pokemon if and when he won.

Vince grumbled a bit to himself as Olivia promised to stop through her giggle fit, and Lin couldn't help but chuckle a little at her trainer. She hadn't seen him get so worked up about something other than training, it was a relief to see him reacting to something else for a change. She could understand though. Vince was raised rather traditionally. The mere suggestion of Olivia getting dressed up for him was enough to make him uncomfortable, since, in his opinion, that wasn't something strangers just did for each other. Vince couldn't understand how Olivia managed to get out of Ecruteak with such a relaxed mindset about these things, but whatever. He really just wanted to drop the subject. Lin glanced to Cayenne as she asked what Lin was looking forward to the most out of this new adventure. ('Hm... That is a good question. To be perfectly honest, I'm not quite certain, as I don't know what the future holds for us. I'm just happy to be on the ride.') She explained with a small smile. Eventually the group made it into the gym and found the entrance to the actual battle center where Viola awaited new challengers. Though Vince and Olivia weren't quite ready to challenge the bug specialist just yet, they agreed that having a look at the arena would be a good idea.
Taking a look at the entrance though, Olivia had commented that there didn't seem to be a way back up, though Vince dismissed the idea since Viola likely wasn't trying to trap them under her museum, so there had to be some other way out. Olivia agreed, suggesting that maybe they would have to battle a few trainers for the answer. Vince smirked at that. He wouldn't be opposed to battling a little. It would be like hitting two pidgey with one stone. They could scope out the gym, and get some training done. Of course, Olivia volunteered Vince to jump in first, not that Vince minded, but the way she went about it was like she was volunteering him as a pit sacrifice. With a rolling of his eyes, he went ahead in, flagging Olivia down when he'd reached the bottom safely, though he was soon drawn into a battle to occupy his attention. After Huang Chen's scratch took our the sewaddle, the youngster to whom it belonged didn't seem all that surprised, given how weak it was. He hadn't even put it's pokeball away yet and smoothly returned it to transition to his next pokemon, a herracross. This bug seemed far more formidable; clearly the first had simply been a test. "Hmph. Very well." Vince mused aloud. "Huang Chen, use iron tail." He commanded.
The charmander sprang forward, not afraid to hold back with this attack since this big bug looked rather tough and intimidating. The heracross seemed surprised by the charmander's speed, but braced itself for the attack. "Why aren't you using type advantage? Here I thought I was the rookie." The youngster scoffed. Vince said nothing, watching Huang Chen as she nailed the heracross with her tail and knocked it on it's back, and the armored bug was down for the count. "Because that would be overkill." Vince gestured to the heracross calmly, making his point. "An important part of having power is knowing not to abuse it." The kid was too stunned to speak, but Vince continued anyways. "That, and we haven't trained with her new fire move yet, and I'm sure Viola would probably appreciate us not burning down her gym." Vince glanced down to the spiderweb trampoline they stood on. Yeah, seemed like pretty flammable material. Vince had joked about Viola not wanting to trap them down here, he wasn't going to try and prove himself wrong. Vince glanced to Olivia now that she had joined them. "Nice of you to drop in." He commented. It was his pass at a joke, but he'd said it so seriously, it was hard to tell whether he was intentionally making the pun or not. Though, if Olivia laughed at it, the faintest of smiles would appear on his face before turning his attention back to the youngster to see what pokemon he planned on sending out next.

Olivia's chest expanded as she breathed out, expelling the last of her laughter in a breathy sigh. It'd been a while since she'd gotten a good laugh, and she was almost disappointed that her merriment had to come to an end, though it was for the best; it was better to laugh with someone rather than at them. "Hmph, hmph," she cleared her throat once more, finally regaining her composure. "H-hey Vince," she spoke up slowly, trying to regain his attention in a more amicable way. "That word you just said, it wasn't in English," she observed, having taken note of the foreign language even during her tizzy. "What was it?" Cayenne seemed rather pleased, her mood soaring when she became aware of what a jovial mood her trainer was in. She turned that mood to Lin, her head bobbing in understanding. "I'm happy too!" she squeaked. "This is my first time.. anywhere; everything is new and exciting," she admitted, though her inexperience was more than obvious. "I hope your future only holds good thing though, Ms. Lin." Her optimistic and cheerful wish of good luck ended when they arrived at the gym, a bit disappointed in the fact that they weren't battling, but became content with the fact that they were discovering something new.
As curious as she was, the only factor discouraging Olivia from going down the opening in the ground immediately was the fact that there didn't seem to be a clear way back up, a concern she brought up to Vince. Of course, it wasn't a serious concern, and Vince said as much, enough to encourage her to suggest they might even get a bit of battling out of it. It was plausible enough, they were going down into an area, assembly, full of trainers, at least one or two of them might be interested in battle. Being the kind person that she was, Olivia even 'offered' Vince the chance to go first-- something he didn't seem to appreciate, but went on anyway. It was a shame, but she could condone her actions knowing that, if this was something legitimately dangerous, she would have gone first, no doubt about it. Thankfully, that wasn't the case, and after peering down into the opening Olivia could see Vince waving at her, informing her that it was safe to come down.
That was enough of a reassurance for her, and after returning her pokemon Olivia was quick to join Vince at the lower level, her heart still racing from the exhalation of the fall when she straightened to her feet. Much to her surprise, Vince had already gotten himself into a battle, she'd arrived just in time to see Huang Chen take out the first pokemon, followed quickly by the second one. It was commendable to see her companion not go for the easy, and more obvious, super-effective attack, seeing how easily the Heracross had gone down with a regular attack, a fire-type move would've proved too much; something the bug's trainer didn't seem to understand. Which was a shame, but there was some hope that, after the battle, that sort of wisdom would be remembered in the future. Olivia blinked when Vince finally acknowledged her presence, a smirk raising up at his joke. Even if it had been delivered rather.. stiffly, the pun hadn't been lost on her, and as such was given its due reaction. It was just a shame that she couldn't come up with something as equally as punny. "Of course, of course," she looked towards the youngster, a bit of amusement in her eyes. "Already trying to figure out how to get out, I see," she mused, referring to their earlier conversation on battling and gaining information. "Impressive."
"Salutations, madame." (Greetings, madam.) An unfamiliar voice sounded behind her, offering a greeting, and with a quirk of an eyebrow Olivia turned to look behind her. During her time spent observing and chatting with Vince a man had managed to approach her, a rather confident smile on his smile. "J'ai entendu dire que les femmes aiment un homme qui leur parle dans sa langue natale, est-il c'est vrai? "Malheureusement, ce n'est pas vrai pour chaque femme, (Unfortunately, it is not true for every woman,)" she retorted, her laughter breaking through her French. The man seemed a bit surprised to learn that she spoke his language, but continued anyway, "Deux personnes, les deux fait de parler la langue d'amour ? Cela doit être le destin, (Two people, speaking the language of love? It must be fate,)" he remarked, his eyebrow wiggling in a suggestive manner. The pinkette snorted and shook her head, "Considérant où nous sommes, il est en fait assez commun, (Considering where we are, it's actually rather common,)" she pointed out before giving a stretch. "Let's talk about something more interesting," she suggested once she'd calmed down, switching to English when she was no longer interested in playing along. "Battle me?" The man quirked an eyebrow, a bit disappointed in her lack of interest in him though curious all the same. "And what happens when I win?" he asked, hand moving back to retrieve a pokeball and send out his first pokemon.
"One thing at a time," she replied smoothly and released Cayenne. She squeaked happily, instantly understanding her task when she saw the odd key-ring pokemon floating before her. "Tackle," she directed and watched as her eager fire-mouse charged forward to slam her body against the Klefki. She frowned, however, it retaliated with a tackle of its own. "It'll take a bit more than that for you to take out my pokemon," the pick-up artist explained, the pride he held in his pokemon showing. "That much is obvious," Olivia mused, though she frowned when she saw Cayenne stumble back, a good chunk of her health having deteriorated from the one move. "Use another tackle," she coaxed, and with a cry of acknowledgement the fire-starter shook herself and charged once more, this time managing to take the Klefki out.

Vince grumbled quietly to himself as Olivia slowly regained control over her giggle fit, ignoring her as best as he could, but when the pinkette called for his attention again, he glanced over his shoulder at her. He was open for a change of subject, but if she made another damn comment about kimono's he was going to blow a gasket. Her question focused more on the Chinese he had used earlier, noting that it wasn't English, and while it wasn't necessarily another kimono comment, it still irked Vince due to the relation between the two topics. "Yeah, I said zhùkǒu. That's Chinese for shut up." He leered, facing front again. As much grief he was giving her though, he wasn't trying to get away from her either. If he really wanted to lose her, he probably could have, but as annoying as she was turning out to be, it was tolerable.... In a weird irritating sort of way. Vince rolled his eyes and sighed internally. He was going to regret offering to help this pink haired menace, he could feel it already, and yet he didn't care enough to do anything about it. Lin's fondness for Cayenne only continued to grow. It was interesting how the cyndaquil and Huang Chen were reacting to really getting to explore the outside world for the first time. Cayenne was certainly the optimistic type, which was good to see. She smiled as the fire type wished her future held good things. ('As I you Cayenne.') She nodded, but when entering the gym, Lin was soon returned to her pokeball after browsing the art for display so that Vince could jump down the buneary hole, quite literally.
Vince was then almost immediately greeted with a battle while Olivia eventually made her way down, and in between rounds with the youngster, he eventually came around to greeting her reappearance. albeit stiffly. She still seemed to enjoy the comment, if only just a little, as made clear by the light smirk on her face. Vince's expression altered in kind with a small wry smile before turning his attention back to the youngster as he sent out his heracross to battle. Huang Chen took it out rather quickly with an iron tail, so Vince focused mostly on Olivia as she commented that he was already trying to find a way out. "Well I did figure that should be the first order of business." Vince mused back. "If you want to leave, you'll have to talk to Viola. She's the one who guards the door out." The youngster explained. "And where would we find her?" Vince asked, but the youngster only smirked. "Beat me and I'll tell you." Vince scoffed. He should have seen that one coming, but whatever. Vince was fairly certain with the way things were going so far that he could handle anything this kid threw at him, even if Huang Chen couldn't.
"Nuzleaf, come on out and pound this lizard!" The youngster commanded, tossing his next pokeball into the air to send out the grass type. It was awfully quick, taking Huang Chen by surprise and knocking her onto her back. She got back up, a growl escaping her lips as well as a few flames in anger at the surprise attack. "No. You will use iron tail Huang Chen. Unless you seek to burn through our safety net and send us all into the abyss below...?" Vince warned the fire type, who cut off her flames to take a look below her feet. Vince was right. As much as she would have liked to burn the grass type to a crisp, she didn't want to endanger everyone else. A quick and hard smack from her tail did the trick just fine, and the nuzleaf fell unconscious to the ground. "Hmph, we aren't done yet. Come on flabébé!" The youngster swapped pokemon for the small fairy. This posed a small problem. Vince didn't want to use super effective moves here where it was overkill, but dragon type moves had no effect, using heat wave was too dangerous, and scratch wouldn't be strong enough. If Huang Chen were still at full health he probably would have gambled with scratch, but that nuzleaf's pound had really done a number on her. "Iron tail again." Vince commanded. Huang Chen nodded, but noted the reluctance in his voice. She would be careful to hold back some of her strength so that she only did as much damage as needed. Vince was able to tell, and nodded approvingly when she returned to his side. As a reward, he treated her injuries with a potion while the youngster returned his last pokemon.
David sighed. "Darn, I guess that's that. You might even have a good shot against Viola. She's up there if you want to battle her and leave." David pointed to the small canopy a little ways farther ahead, and Vince nodded in thanks, watching as the boy left to go heal his pokemon. Vince wasn't leaving in the meantime though, not while Olivia was in the middle of a battle. He could wait. Or maybe prod her a bit. "I appreciate the help in trying to gather information and all, but I already know where we have to go." He offered as he walked over to her, crossing his arms and giving her opponent a once over, already coming off judgmental of the flirtatious frenchman.

As curious as Olivia might've been to know just what Vince was grumbling about, she was too busy with handling herself, and getting herself under control. Unfortunately, by the time she had Vince had ceased his grumbling and resorted to simply ignoring her, though he changed his mind the first time she called out to him. She was no longer interested in teasing, him, however and held within her a genuine interest in the word he'd uttered to her moments before, it certainly hadn't been English. "Ooooh," Olivia couldn't help but to laugh, despite the word's translation, and snickered even more when Vince whipped back around after informing her. "And here I was hoping it meant 'continue'," she joked, but from there she grew quiet. She rather liked Vince, though she couldn't say for sure if the feeling was mutual, it'd been a while since she'd been able to relax the way she was doing now; being an officer was difficult, strenuous job, especially now. What with the reappearance of the six region's infamous groups it'd been tense around her station. Now that she was out in the field, and undercover, she was allowed to be herself, at least for a short amount of time. Cayenne, like her trainer, was rather content with her companion. If she thought about it, Lin was the first pokemon she'd talked to the longest-- Poppy was second, but their conversation had been completely unpleasant, so she tried to blot it from her mind. "Thank you!" she chirped, though after that their conversation came to an end. They were only allowed to enjoy the artwork before both were returned; which was fine by Cayenne, she didn't know how well she could handle sudden drops.
While Vince battled their first greeter Olivia entertained herself by watching his battle, rather impressed by their teamwork-- and Vince had said he'd just gotten her today? There wasn't much to supervise, at least during this battle, which allowed the male time to strike up light banter with her, which he started up with a pun. It was delivered in... well, in a very 'Vince way', though that didn't make it any less amusing. Olivia smirked, then watched as the brunette mirrored the expression. He eventually turned back to the battle, though Huang Chen quickly dispatching the Heracross allowed him to answer her question. "Smart. Though I figured we'd at least explore a bit before trying to figure out our escape plan." Blue orbs flickered to Vince's opponent, who revealed that they'd have to talk to Viola to find the way out, though he wasn't so cooperative enough to immediately disclose Viola's whereabouts, not until Vince bested him in battle.
"I believe in ya, Vincey," Olivia encouraged, though she wasn't able to see the end of his battle, drawn into her own. The young woman looked over her opponent, behind her the sound of Vince's battle continuing now audible, before she beamed. "Good job, Cayenne," she praised her starter after she'd managed to defeat Clement's Klefki. "Impressive," the flirt remarked as he returned his first pokemon. "Your pokemon's as strong as you are beautiful." He delivered the line with a wink, allowing the words to sink in before he sent out his next pokemon, a rather delicate Ralts. Olivia held back from commenting and instead turned to appraise Cayenne, despite her bruises her fighting spirit was still intact. "Tackle," she instructed, and then watched as Cayenne tumbled into the small fairy, knocking it flat onto its back. "A bit rough, don't you think? Ralts, Double Team." The Ralts stood to its feet, albeit shakily, and with a wiggle of its arms caused mirror images of itself to materialize, all identical and moving in sync. Cayenne whipped her head back-and-forth, thoroughly confused. "Concentrate, Cayenne, then use Tackle," Olivia suggested. The Cyndaquil sniffed then nodded, taking a whiff of the air before she targeted, what she hoped, was the original pokemon.
Clement returned his pokemon, no pick-up line accompanied this time, and without a word sent forth his next pokemon, a rather intimidating looking dragon, who roared upon its release. Olivia hummed thoughtfully, appraising their newest opponent, before deciding to keep Cayenne out; considering that this was a bug-type gym, she wanted her only fire-type to get as much experience as she could before they challenged Viola. With only one damage-sustaining attack, the battle went on much like the previous one, with Cayenne tackling her opponent until it fainted.
Cayenne had just come up victorious when Olivia found Vince joining her, having just finished up his own battle. "Hm?" she looked back in his direction as Cayenne trotted back to her, chest swelled with pride. Olivia laughed before she shrugged playfully, "Sorry. I just thought it might be faster if we both tried." She slid her gaze back to Clement, who was in the process of sending out his last pokemon, before she turned back to Vince. "Don't worry, I won't make you stand around too long." "Oh, madame, you didn't tell me you were already spoken for." Olivia turned back to the battlefield, where a Electrike now awaited her and Cayenne, before she looked to its trainer. "I hope your boyfriend won't mind it too much when I take you out to dinner."
Hm, why did everyone automatically assume that, when two people were together, they were a couple? With a soft roll of the eyes and a snort, still amused, she waved away the misconception, while at the same time motioning for Cayenne to take the electric pup on. "He's not my boyfriend, and I don't think you have enough pokemon for our 'date'," she pointed out, referring to his inevitable loss due to quickly dwindling number of usable pokemon. Clement laughed good-naturedly. With nothing else for either of them to say the final battle started, Cayenne's fire flaring out in her excitement before she spat out an ember of flame, displaying her newest move with an impressive show of accuracy and control, she made certain that the fire only hit the Electrike and not the sticky web that held them all up. The pup shook its head before leering at Cayenne, intimidating her to the point where she defense became a bit sloppy and left her open to an attack, but it wasn't enough to prevent her from tackling the pokemon, ending their battle there.
"Looks like that's it," Olivia remarked when Clement failed to send out another pokemon. She dropped down to her pokemon's level, taking out a potion to spray her, and was half-way done with healing her when a shadow fell onto her person. She tilted her head, only to blink and refocus her gaze on the open-palmed hand extended out to her. "Félicitations, madame, (Congratulations, madam,)" he congratulated, switching back to French. "Thanks." She straightened back up, only to stop when she noticed that Clement actually held something in his hand. He urged her to take the small candies in his hand, and after a moment of staring she did so, inspecting them. "Ma floraison Rosemary, vous avez cassé mon coeur, (My blooming Rosemary, you've broken my heart)" he joked, referring to the broken candies. Despite herself, Olivia found herself laughing. "Er, mes excuses, (Er, my apologies,)" she murmured. Clement shook his head before he bowed, "perhaps next time, I'll get a chance." He didn't wait for Olivia and instead waved to both her and Vince, though he smirked in the latter's direction, before he retreated to have his pokemon healed.
Olivia regarded her candies absently, slowly coming to the conclusion that she should, perhaps, throw them away--you never knew where people got their food from. But before that she turned back to Vince, a smile slowly rising. "Alright! You ready to go?" she inquired, hand moving to rest on her hips. She was still waiting for Vince's response when a vortex appeared behind the pinkette, black and swirling, and yet Olivia remained unaware of it, not until it was too late and she was being sucked inside.

Olivia earned an unamused glare from Vince when she commented that she'd hoped zhùkǒu had meant continue, but nothing more. They reached the gym in peace, and their pokemon returned to their pokeballs for a brief amount of time while they jumped down into the arena below before being brought back out again to engage in separate battles. Olivia seemed to commend his efforts in trying to figure out the exit, though she suggested that they at least explore a bit before searching a way out. "Well forgive me, but I'd like to secure an exit before I'd feel comfortable exploring. Besides, who says we can't do both at the same time?" Vince countered, nodding his thanks as she cheered him on. He was soon finished with his own battle and went to report to Olivia, only to find that she had found herself a battle as well. So much for exploring first. Vince rolled his eyes and stood behind the pinkette with his arms crossed, commenting that he already had the information they needed. She apologized, insisting that she'd just thought it might be faster if they both tried digging. Vince shrugged, unable to argue against that logic, looking over her opponent with an unimpressed and almost glowering expression while he folded his arms as he watched their battle unfold.
The man spoke up, commenting that Olivia hadn't said she was spoken for, and that he hoped her boyfriend didn't mind when he took her out to dinner. Oh brother. Vince rolled his eyes, annoyed. Even if he wasn't her boyfriend, he still minded, mainly because this guy felt so sleazy. Vince almost felt obligated to keep any girl away from the guy. "I'm not her boyfriend." Vince said in unison with Olivia, though the pinkette added on that Clement didn't have the pokemon to back up his claim anyways. After all, he was almost out of pokemon and Olivia still had her entire team. Though when Cayenne shot out an ember as her last attack, Vince felt on edge, though the cyndaquil impressed him by showing a great deal of control and accuracy. With a move like ember, it was easier. For Huang Chen, and a move like Heat Wave, they would need to practice a lot to get it anywhere near that level of precision. Soon, the battle was over, and the two had switched back to French, much to Vince's annoyance, since he was fairly certain Clement only did it to keep Vince in the dark. He scowled at the man as he smirked in his direction, and turned away quickly towards Viola's canopy as Olivia asked if he was ready to go. "Yeah. Come on." Vince said curtly. What an absolute slimeball. Vince felt gross just being in his presence. He wanted a shower to wash off the stench of cologne and hair slick the guy probably drenched himself with. Eugh.
Vince turned back to Olivia, walking backwards across the spiderweb, he opened his mouth to comment on something involving Viola and the gym, but the question was immediately wiped from his mind the moment he saw the ominous swirling vortex unfolding behind Olivia. For once, Vince's face showed distinct expressiveness; horror. He bolted after her immediately, but by the time he reached her, the vortex was already swallowing them both up. All he could do was wrap his arms around her in a vain attempt to protect her. He felt his body pulled in every direction as the rift in time and space sucked them both into the Distortion World, as well as a little noibat that had been spying on Vince from her ceiling perch.

"Ah! Quill! You can't do that!" she cried out, running over and scooping the bird up in her arms. She then booped him lightly on the beak and frowned. "You shouldn't have attacked that little guy. I could have given you a replacement snack." She sounded very disappointed with the bird and put Quill back in the pokeball. "You're going to have to stay in there, buddy....until you learn your lesson." Of course, she wasn't exactly going to follow through with that threat, but she would keep Quill contained for the time being. When she returned to her other pokemon, Lua had shifted over next to her backpack. Most curiously, however, was that there was a little fox curled up in the girl's lap, giving the most adorable yawn. She recognized it immediately as a Fennekin, as the professor had offered her one a few days prior. Cerbera knelt in front of her companion and patted the little fox on the head. In the distortion world, Vince had been enjoying Olivia's company, and her assistance in preparing their food. Talk had been light, joking about the honors of opening canned food and Vince's experiences in the kitchen and with his family dinners, particularly with his grandma and grandpa whom he affectionately referred to as nǎinai and yéyé. Olivia seemed rather interested at least as he blabbered on, commenting that his grandparents sounded like a cute couple, and that it was healthy to get a rise out of your partner to keep the blood pumping. "Perhaps a healthy argument now and again yes, but some of the things he says are just plain mean... We don't know how she puts up with it. Probably because she knows he doesn't really mean it." Vince shrugged. When Olivia suggested that he would get a big welcome dinner when he came back home, Vince had to agree, but insist that he wouldn't be coming home until he finished what he'd set out to do. Olivia curiously inquired what that was, which wasn't entirely surprising. "I was hoping to make it all the way to the elite four. I don't have any aspirations to become the champion, but I want to prove it to myself that I can at least make it that far...." He murmured. Once again, it wasn't a lie, but it wasn't the whole truth either.
After finishing making their meal and eating most of it, Olivia finally found it in herself to apologize for her behavior. Vince had attempted to reassure her by insisting that the apology wasn't necessary, but when that didn't seem to work, he jokingly mentioned that he was glad she had calmed down then and there so that he didn't have to wrestle and carry her off. Olivia seemed to respond better to that, suggesting that he was giving himself too much credit if he believed he could have pulled that off. "Right, because I can't carry all... What, one hundred and thirty pounds of you?" He guessed with a smirk, though when they finished eating, Vince was glad to hear that Olivia enjoyed the meal. It hadn't been anything fancy, but it was food, and eatable. Now Olivia insisted that he needed to cook for her when they got out though. "Ah... I suppose I wouldn't mind making something else for you. Just don't get your expectations too high; I'm no master chef." Vince insisted. A few tips from his grandmother, base knowledge of what tasted good together, and a few memorized home recipes didn't constitute him for a five star chef by any means in his mind, but it was probably better than most. After cleaning their table, Vince insisted that they try to sleep for the night, or get in at least a nap since it was hard to tell what time it was in this strange world. It would be risky to stay awake and unknowingly pull an all nighter, so Vince took the couch and insisted Olivia take the bed.
This of course got them into yet another argument as Olivia insisted they switch places, mainly since Vince didn't exactly fit comfortably on the couch, and Vince stubbornly held his spot even when the pinkette tried to move his legs. “Well I’m already here, and I’ve already gotten comfortable, so it’s fine, just go take the bed, I don’t care.” He insisted, but of course Olivia insisted that she did care and that he would get a cramp laying like that, and before she could even finish her sentence she exploded in irritation, yelling at him to move his feet. Vince simply snorted. “I don’t get cramps, and no, I’m not going to move, so you may as well go sleep on the bed.” Vince insisted stubbornly, crossing his arms across his chest. This of course only prompted Olivia to belly flop on top of Vince, causing the younger male to grunt in surprise. "Oof! Olive!" He growled irritably, glaring at the pinkette as she asked if he was still certain he wouldn't get a cramp. "...Get off." If Vince wasn't so frustrated, he would have been amused by the thought of a pink joltik Olivia. "Why would you— No. Stop that." He continued to scowl, growing more uncomfortable with the comments she was making. Determined to settle this, he stood suddenly, picking Olivia up in his arms and moving to the bedroom in an attempt to drop her off and leave her there so he could return to the couch.
Apparently she hadn't expected Vince to actually go through with his threat, exclaiming her surprise by demanding that Vince put her down. "I’ll put you down.” He promised wryly. though he had a hard time walking once she entered joltik mode and began clinging to him. Vince did his best to pry her off as he walked, repositioning her so that it would be harder for her to hold onto him, and when he got to the bedroom, he wrestled her to the bed and attempted to detach her from him. “Olive, I’m serious, get off and leave me be! I’m sleeping on the couch and you’re staying here.” He insisted, but since he was already on the bed, Olivia suggested he may as well stay, since she wasn't going to let up, and it was clear he wasn't either, so once again she suggested a compromise that they could either suffer together on the couch or both get some decent rest in the bed. Vince could only sigh. ".....I can't." Vince's face grew uncomfortable again. "Normally I would agree with you, but...." He trailed off again. Call him old fashioned, but he felt it was indecent to sleep in the same bed with a woman who he wasn't in a relationship with, and he wouldn't force her on the couch because he couldn't feel comfortable enough to compromise. Olivia sighed, suggesting that it seemed like neither of them were going to get much sleep. "Mm..." Vince agreed with a sigh, adjusting them both slightly so that he could lay more comfortably with her. She seemed tired, stifling another yawn. "....Perhaps... If you really have no issue with it, I'll stay..." He half lied. His sudden change of heart might have seemed suspicious, but Vince did intend to stay, at least until Olivia fell asleep, then he could sneak away to the couch and deal with whatever heat it brought him when Olivia woke up. At least she seemed to buy it, and let him go so that they could each take their own side of the bed, but Vince's plan to sneak away was overtaken with exhaustion and quickly falling asleep.
When Vince woke, he noticed that everything felt strangely drafty, with the exception of his front, which was faintly warm. Opening his eyes, Vince only saw a sea of pink, and blinked a few times in confusion. What had the distortion world done now? Wait.... Vince blinked again, coming to his senses to find that he was bear hugging Olivia in his arms and fought the urge to quickly recoil and jostle her awake. Looking around the room, it was clear they weren't in the cozy cottage they had found, and now in some large dark pit, laying on.... Wait. Vince turned slightly, feeling eyes on his back. A young man was staring at both of them and adjusted his glasses uncomfortably. "I'm uh... Sorry sir, but... I'm afraid the gym isn't the place to cuddle overnight." Vince tensed, pulling away from Olivia quickly. All his self control had been spent trying not to pull away earlier but at the mere suggestion that they had been cuddling was just too much. "That's not--!" Vince sighed. This probably looked really bad. He couldn't help but wonder how they had managed to even get back. Had another portal come and they'd just slept through it? Whatever the case, Huang Chen groggily made her way over to Vince and yawned, making a motion with her stubby arms to remind Vince what they had been trying to do in the gym in the first place. "We were looking for Viola." He insisted through grit teeth. Arceus this was so embarrassing... "I.... see..." Vince glared at the bespectacled male for his uncertain tone, which seemed to be enough prompting. "This way then!" He insisted, turning quickly towards Viola's hut over north.

The girl then seemed to realize what she was doing and eased up her grip on the Fennekin, blushing a little. She stroked the well maintained fur gently, petting the little fox to put it at ease so it could get back to sleep. [- -]"You know, that's a good question," the older girl replied, taking out her pokedex. Cerbera listened to the description of the fox's powers and then pulled over it for a moment or two. "Well, according to the dex, Fennekin has witch-like powers...so maybe she should be named after a witch. How about Winnie, short for Winnifred? I think there was a movie about witches, and that one one of the characters..." Berrie stroked the soft fur herself and smiled, thinking that Lua looked absolutely adorable with a pokemon in her lap. It was definitely a good choice to trust the little one with this. While she watched the two pokemon bond, her attention was called elsewhere by the cry of a wild pokemon. Nearby, a Flabebe was peering out at the group from between two bushes. It looked like it wanted to cause trouble, so Cerbera's hand immediately dropped to her belt, pulling out a pokeball she hadn't used in a while. "Come on out, Venom," she said, "You could use a good workout! Let's get that little fairy with a Poison Tail."[- -]The poisonous snake stretched out once it materialized and hissed threateningly. For a moment it just worked out its kinks, slashing the bladed tail back and forth and flexing its coils. However, before too long had passed, the snake's tail began to glow a bright purple and it dashed for the pushed, repeatedly stabbing the Flabebe with its tail blade.[- -]Cerbera grinned as she walked over to her victorious Seviper and cuddled it affectionately. "That was incredible," she said, "You are getting so strong! I'm proud of you, Venom..." The girl then recalled her pokemon and gathered up the others who were lounging in the sun. "We should go, guys," she told them all, "There's a few shops I want to hit before it gets dark." With her trusty pokemon in tow as well as the little ginger girl who was cradling her new Fennekin in her arms, Ryssa headed for the main street in the town. They browsed through several very specific shops with her buying a few odds and ends that she needed as well as a few impulse buys, like a fishing pole. After all was said and done, the girl led her group to the pokemon center, giving all of her friends over for a checkup and some healing. When they were all patched up, several of Berrie's new captures were sent through the PC, for safe keeping.[-

Then again, cuddled all up with her pokemon was the comfiest way she could ever sleep. It was something that Cerbera had discovered thusfar in her journey, and now that she knew how comforting it was, emotionally, she wouldn't want to sleep any other way. Where they crashed didn't matter so long as they were all snuggled up in a big pile. When the morning came, she sat up and stretched, letting out a yawn that seemed too big for her small frame. She roused all of her pokemon and told them, "Get ready, guys. Today feels like it's going to be a big, important day. Good things are going to happen, so we should set out already." Her pokemon gave a chorus of agreements in their own various messages, and all piled on the girl for a good nuzzling. Berrie couldn't help but laugh and gathered up her things after crawling out from underneath the pile of lovable pokemon. "Alright, let's go!" As they left the Pokemon center, Cerbera stopped by a small shrine and bought an incense stick, lighting it for good luck on their journey.[- -]From there, the small group headed down the main road, taking it out of town to proceed with their journey. On the outskirts of the city, however, a tubby little mass of yellow waddled out in front of the group, barring their way. It seemed to be trying to collect a toll of some sort, but Berrie had no intention of paying. It was a pokemon she had never seen before, so she told her Espeon, "I'm sure you can convince this guy to let us pass, Spirit. Hit him with a confusion!"[- -]Spirit let out a cry as she stared down the Makuhita, her eyes glowing a sharp purple. The intensity of the glare would lead onlookers to believe there was something more powerful than a simple staring contest going on. A few seconds later, the Makuhita toppled over, only for a pokeball to soar over the Espeon's head and snatch up the fainted sumo baby. Spirit congratulated.[-

It wasn't long before they were suddenly losing altitude. They had hardly left Lumiose, though! Auriel cooed apologetically as he went in for a gentle landing. This time, no running into anyone. "What's the matter Auriel?" Rose asked, hopping off of his back and petting his neck. He gave her a confused look, then looked to Fynx. The Delphox brushed her fur out as she moved to stand beside Rose. "He said he's sorry. He has no idea where you actually want to go." Fynx relayed the message. With a quiet huff, she settled a paw on her trainer's head. "He only knows of where we've been in this region so far. We should consult a map before continuing.
