Following the main road Fremy unintentionally lead the way. She didn't have the best of sense of direction but it wasn't too hard to head towards the biggest mountain in the distance. It sort of stuck out even among the other mountains. Plus the road leading towards it was well traveled. Years of trainers like Misa taking the journey through the caves in order to get to the next gym leader. she couldn't help but remember having once traveled to this same mountain range years ago hunting a Clefable. It had been one of the few jobs she'd failed. A land slide had taken out her camp and her with it almost. Shed only barely escaped with her life. She ended up having to call the job off due to a fractured shin. It was never revealed if the client had ever gotten his Clefable or not. "The further into the foot hills we get the steeper the incline. Watch your footing." She said looking back to Misa checking on the girl every now and again. She was making good time considering. Rapidash kept trying to rush on ahead without her though. Fremy after a while gave up trying to stop the horse pokemon and let his reigns go. He always keep a good distance away from the humans but never got out of their sight always stopping and waiting for them to catch up.

Out of the forest and into a land dominated by rocks and mountains. Lafayette paused at the route entrance as they arrived in Pewter City, his gaze shifting up to look at the mountain ranges as he let out a low whistle. Anville was mostly surrounded by thick forests, mountain ranges like this were uncommon at least as far as he knew. Really, he’d never seen such barren mountains in his life. It was amazing and a little enticing. There were all kinds of platforms and ledges that could be climbed too and slowly the gears of his mind started to churn in thought.
Noah however, was distracted. He’d been taking in the sights for only the briefest of minutes before the pink Espurr toddling off to the side to stare in a different direction caught his attention. He was watching it now, unnerved that it was out and about. It hadn’t really addressed its new trainer –was Lafayette its new trainer? Noah still wasn’t sure- and instead seemed focused on some invisible force that they couldn’t see. It never seemed to blink either, which was what i]really bothered the Oshawott. It didn’t even occur to the otter how intensely he was watching the Espurr until its pink gaze took a look in his direction. He felt a chill run down his spine, nearly falling off his trainer’s shoulder as he whipped his attention elsewhere.
Lafayette frowned, giving Noah a curious look. He didn’t quite know what was going on with the otter but he raised and hand and gave him a reassuring pat on the side to assure him. That seemed to call his pokemon down, which was good. With that, he returned to moving, starting to case the buildings out to get a clue of the city’s layout.

Lafayette spent about an hour scouting the city. He found the pokemon center and the market, taking the time to give his team a chance to freshen up and browse the shop for anything worthwhile. While he didn’t buy anything, it occurred to him that he would probably at some point need to acquire a backpack of some sort to carry things. His tool belt only had so much room and preferably, he wanted that room for his tools. He’d have to ask Juliean for one the next time he saw him. Or maybe buy one, it all depended on what came first.
There was also a museum too, which might’ve been worth checking into once their business was almost done. I mean, fossils and rocks were kind of interesting, especially if they had shapes and weren’t just… piles of bones. Cheri –the name Lafayette had come to give the Espurr, her colorations reminding him of strawberry milkshakes with cherries on top- seemed particularly enraptured with the idea, standing a full five minutes at the doorway just staring in. It was probably the creepiest thing to see for anyone on the inside. Eventually though, the blonde peeled her away from the door and continued along. It’d taken a bit of looking around but he’d found what he wanted. Which was a nice ridge, just on the outskirts and above the city. It was a bit of a climb but well, he was looking forward to it.
"A’igh’ mates, back in tha’ balls. It’d be less yakka withou’ yeh out and abou’. " Lafayatte remarked, looking to the pair. Cheri remained silent, just staring at him with that same piercing blank stare. He would take that as confirmation. Noah gave a little huff in annoyance, arms folding over his chest as his cheeks puffed. The blonde gave him a sympathetic look, pulling him off his shoulder to hold him out. "C’mon Noah, don’ get aggro. She’ll be righ’." He gave the otter a reassuring smile. Noah stared a moment before deflating and giving a little nod. He trusted Lafayette not to leave him in there longer than necessary.
"Ta mate." The blonde thanked, setting the otter down next to the pink fluff. He returned them both and tucked their balls safely away in his belt before turning and scanning the mountain side. It probably wasn’t the best to be climbing without gear but… well. He liked a challenge.

It was a hell of a climb up the side of the mountain, taking him about an hour or so to do. By the time he reached the platform he was looking for, Lafayette was huffing for breath. Though, that was less from being out of shape –he wasn’t really- and more from the lack of oxygen this high up. To some degree it was refreshing, to another it was downright tiring.
But it was worth it. Standing up and taking a deep breath, he looked back over the edge from the cliff face down to the city below. It was a lovely view – assuming you weren’t someone who was terrified of heights – and Lafayette was rather happy for his decision to train up here. There was enough room for him and his pokemon as well as any that came to fight. If anything, it gave a decent vantage point; there was nowhere to really come from that would be surprise. Yes, it was perfect. Clapping his hands together, Lafayette started to go through his items and such. He just needed to sort out a few things and then… training would begin.

It took a few minutes of sorting, deciding, staring and thinking but Lafayette had a plan. A plan that mostly consisted of giving all the items that Juliean had burdened him to his pokemon to hold and –hopefully- benefit from. He didn’t have the means to look up and figure out what they did, at least not without climbing back down and asking someone. But it was probably a good guess that his pokemon would figure it out. If not well… whatever.
With items in hand, the blonde set about his next task. Just like he promised, he released Noah from his pokeball, the Oshawott immediately greeting him with cheers and a rush to hug his leg in gratefulness. Lafayette raised an eyebrow at this display, reaching down and patting the pokemon on the head gently. He didn’t stop there though, pulling out the other pokeballs in his possession and unleashing the entirety of his crew.
Eve’s mouth went slightly agape as her vision cleared at the sight of the other pokemon. She was first caught off guard by the unnerving pink stare of Cheri, who only seemed to consider the others for a moment before toddling over to peer over the edge of the ledge for herself. Eve’s attention shifted quickly though as Noah made his way over to greet the other two bodies, gaze still surprised. There was a massive dog with a flowing main, sitting stoically with his eyes shut. The dragon creature that appeared next to him was already spastically greeting the Oshawott, her head practically ramming down against the otter’s, though doing no harm as she gave a little coo in greeting. Soon the dragon noticed Cheri and Eve, noting the little pink thing seemed obsessed with the cliff edge and instead opting to green the bulb pokemon. With swift serpent-like movements, she slipped over and wrapped around the Bulbasaur, the Noivern’s claws slamming down on either side of the frightened creature as she pressed her face right into hers, coo’ing in greeting. Eve wasn’t quite sure what to make of the action, but soon found her personal space cleared up as Lafayette grabbed ahold of the Noivern’s tail and yanked her back with only a bit of a grunt.
"Turn in up, Dova. Yeh’ll scare the poor Bublie off with tha’." He scolded, the Noivern’s ears drooping briefly as she was reprimanded. It didn’t seem to last long though as her tail was released, perking up and slipping quickly back over to bother both Arcanine and Oshawott. The game now seemed to be getting the hound to open his eyes. Lafayette rolled his eyes, gesturing for Eve to follow as he addressed the group. "A’igh’ mates, gathah ‘roun. Go’ some prezzies from tha’ b*****d." He remarked, crouching and starting to dig through the goods, his pokemon noticing the act and gathering around as well. Now… who to give what too…

While it might’ve taken him some time to figure out what to do with all the items, it didn’t take Lafayette long to distribute them. And that was only because his pokemon did it for him. Dova immediately swooped in and snatched up one of the lucky eggs for herself, enraptured by the spherical object as she dashed madly about the area. Noah had taken the strange candle stick without hesitation, marveling at the sparkler looking thing. He was already wandering over to Micah to get the Arcanine’s assistance in lighting it, though the hound still seemed lost in his own world of deep thought.
That left two eggs. Eve watched the commotion a moment, uncertain of what to do before Lafayette ushered her forward, picking one of the eggs up and offering it to her. "G’on Eve." He remarked to the Bulbasaur, the shy thing hesitating before extending her vines and taking the egg. That left one more; before he could swipe it up though to potentially offer it to Micah, he found Cheri standing right there with it in her paws. When exactly had she toddled back over, Lafayette didn’t know and her surprise appearance startled him.
"Tha’ hells mate." He swore, frowning as he stared her down. Cheri… didn’t really seem to care. Or at least, her blank poker face didn’t tell him. She simply took the egg and toddled away again, setting it carefully in a small hole of dirt. She dug something else up and toddled back over. There were two shimmering scales in each of her paws. They were very pretty actually. Eve was so caught up in the shininess that she nearly jumped off the edge when Cheri walked up and smacked one of the scales on her head. It disintegrated, the Bulbasaur shaking her head violently in the process only to witness Cheri do the same to herself, though without so much as a flinch.
Lafayette just stared. What… what in the world was wrong with this little pink thing? He had half a mind to whop her one for startling Eve like that but soon she was out of reach once more, retrieving her egg. She toddled back and just stared at him; whatever disciplinary action the blonde had intended soon dissipated. There was just something about that stare… eesh. Lafayette shook his head, fishing out the incense next. Whatever. Just. Whatever.

With items dispensed and pokemon at the ready, Lafayette was prepared to start. He pulled the incense from his work belt pouch, taking a moment to look it over. He really was kind of curious how something so small could attract the likes of pokemon; especially of specific types. Juliean hadn’t really given him much of a chance to question how such a thing worked but… well, when did he ever? It was mostly a ‘do as I say without questions’ sort. Troublesome really but oh well.
"A’igh’ all… let’s give this a burl…," He murmured. Fishing out a lighter, he tilted the incense sideways and allowed the flame to whip into one of the holes. Soon, the wick on the inside was lit and a rather bitter odor began to emit from it. Juliean was right; it did sort of smell like sweat. Lafayette made a face, quickly setting the incense down in the middle of the ground and stepping away to evade the smell. Well now all they had to do… was wait.

For the first twenty or so minutes, there was absolutely no action. Just a gentle breeze wafting the rather unpleasant scent from the incense further through the air. It was a rather boring set up at the moment.
Lafayette waited a bit more, a frown beginning to form across his face. Had he done something wrong? There really didn’t seem to be much more to the whole incense thing; matbe… he should contact Juliean to check up on exactly how this was supposed to work.
As he mulled over this idea though, the sounds of humming caught his ears. Or at least at first, he thought it was humming. Upon closer listening, it became clear that the supposed humming was more like a course of rapidly beating wings. At first, it was rather distance but soon it became clear that they were becoming closer. Eve seemed to notice where the noise was coming frown, her head jerking up and mouth agape at the sight. Lafayette blinked and followed her gaze, an eyebrow of his own raising at the sight.
There was a rather large swarm of Heracross heading in their direction. Wasn’t this supposed to be a Fighting incense? There really wasn’t time to think though. It was only a moment later that one of the bugs veered away from the oncoming group, swooping down towards the plateau and the incense. Lafayette didn’t know for sure what was going on; but he didn’t want these bugs messing it up.
Micah seemed to pick up on this. The Arcanine, who had been stoically sitting in the same place with his eyes shut since helping Noah light his candle, suddenly stiffened. Eyes snapped open and directed up at the oncoming bug who was attempting to take a curious gander for the strange smell. Immediately the massive dog hoped into action, waiting only a moment before charging forward and promptly chomping the bug with a fierce fiery bite. The Heracross didn’t even have a chance to retaliate, dropping to the ground and twitching in pain.
Lafayette heard his Xtransciever beep and looked away to check it, expression growing even more confused as the list with picture appeared, indicating that the Heracross was something he needed to catch. Oh… so these things were fighting types too? Well… alright then. He didn’t question it, instead setting out to catch it as he was supposed to.

Unfortunately, the take down of their fellow Heracross didn’t seem to faze the other encroaching bugs from finding out where the scent was originating from. Another Heracross departed from the oncoming group to swoop down and see what was going on, only to be met with another fierce fire bite from a steady faced Micah. The crunch of its shell and the smell of burning was a rather sickening combo.

Eve was watching in awe as the Arcanine took down the bugs in single blows. Yet another Heracross flew down to see what the commotion was about only to meet a fiery demise once more. She’d never seen such action before; this was probably the first kind of battling she’d ever seen in her young life. Noah seemed well aware of the action though, cheering the hound along. Even Dova seemed enthused, scuttling about in excitement. She seemed to be refraining from jumping in and attacking for herself. Maybe there was some unspoken word to combat?

Micah didn’t seem to mind taking down these Heracross as they flew at the group. It was becoming clear that now the bugs were getting agitated. They just wanted to know what the scent was! What the hell was this dog thing doing, chomping them to smithereens with fire fangs? Whatever! Another Heracross dove down, this time not to look but seeming intent to punch the dog. Unfortunately, like it’s brethren before, it met a rather harsh end in a single chomp.

Another one down. And another one zooming down with some wrongheaded idea that it would avenge its fallen friend. Silly bugs, were they just not learning? Eve watched as once more, Micah obliterated the Heracross. It was actually rather brutal to watch now that she considered it. The Arcanine didn’t seem to be holding back in his actions; it was probably because of their hard shells that the bugs were even able to fly off at all.

It was at about this point that Lafayette realized that more than likely, the whole swarm would come raining down on them. It seemed that, for the time being, they no longer took an interest in the incense but in it's current defender. And it was also evidently clear that they would each meet a terrible demise in the process. At least if they kept coming one by one. He had to wonder though if any other types would show up; it would be a bit hard to explain why he'd failed to capture anything else but that single Heracross.
Of course, he could always catch like thirty of them and send them to Juliean. Maybe as a bit a hint of where to shove it...

Yet another Heracross dove down, this one attempting an attack with it's horn. Apparently it thought it could catch the hound off guard and strike, but Micah was ever vigilant. The bug was only an inch within actual contact before the dog spun around and latched onto its horn with another fire fang, fiercely snapping it around and down into the ground in a rough fashion. The bug screeched a bit in terror at the action, staring up into the hound's golden gaze before promptly fluttering away to join the rest of it's injured colleagues. They really weren't getting that Micah was not one to be messed with.

Actually... there weren't as many of the bugs as Lafayette had originally thought. That or Micah was making such quick work of them that the thinning of their numbers seemed all too rapid. It wasn't long before a final assault was made against Micah by a bigger slightly more burlier looking Heracross. This one was probably the leader of the group... which was why it must've been painful to watch as, much like those before it, it was smashed into the ground. The scolding burn marks on it's shell would serve as a long standing reminder of what had happened on this day.
The Heracross didn't even delay in scrambling to its feet and flying off into the air to join the others of its group. It was clear by the violent chattering and rough beating of wings that they were done trying to find out what the mysterious scent was about. It was just too much trouble. Micah took a seat, gaze resting on the swarm still hovering nearby. Eventually though, they dispersed and with that he resumed his calm stoic stance, eyes shutting once more. Was he resting? Or thinking? Lafayette never really knew. But he left the hound to it; he'd done more than enough so far.
