Teddy had gone back for another round of Doughnuts by the time Hayes appeared back from his shower. "You guys eat up, we have a heavy day of training ahead. Should be fun!" Teddy said looking down at his Pokemon with a grin. He was just scoffing at a doughnut when Hayes joined him at his table, amongst the piles of plates. Hayes mentioned that he hadn't thought too much about what he would do in the city, gulping down a doughnut Teddy replied "Just training for me at the moment. I've been considering this whole gym challenge though."
"A cave sounds like an adventure though. Definitely up for that." Teddy said, wiping a grain of rice from his mouth. "Its definitely the jelly that makes them" Teddy replied, taking another, only to look down at his plate and see another Butterfree under the table. Teddy quickly swiped his head around to see his own Butterfree with his own Pokemon. At this point Hayes mentioned about his new Pokemon Ditto.
"I've heard about them. For all I know I might have seen them. Just not in their original form. Only in books otherwise." Teddy said, pulling off a piece of doughnut and enticing the Butterfree closer. He wondered how their form changed, when they were transformed, did they keep a Ditto's amorphous texture? It seemed that Butterfree wasn't as much of a jelly doughnut fan as Teddy was and didn't seem interested. Teddy threw the piece into his mouth and chuckled.
"Oh well. Think that is me done anyway." Teddy said, his Pokemon too were finished so he returned them to their balls. "Whenever you are ready, we can leave for this cave"

"After it's back to normal I'll show you it, then." He said after Teddy had told him he'd never met one in it's original form, watching as the Butterfree went back under the table. It didn't look like it'd been hungry, he thought, as he glanced over at the nearly empty bowl and Bulbasaur. "I don't know if I'm up for a gym battle, but..." Hayes started, trailing off as he thought about it; it's not like he hadn't thought about them in the past, before he'd left and gone on this adventure.
Hayes stuffed another bite into his mouth as he considered it, nodding as Teddy mentioned he was ready to head over to the cave as soon as he finished. He looked down at Bulbasaur again to see if it'd finished off the rest of the food, and noticed a second Bulbasaur there again; and an empty bowl. After he swallowed the last bite he reached around his side and unclipped a couple Pokeballs again, returning both Ditto and Bulbasaur before clipping them back onto his belt and looked over the Johto-native.
"I'll lead the way, it shouldn't be hard to find it again." Hayes announced, turning around in place and standing up from his seat. "I don't know when Matt headed over to the gym, but if we leave now we should be back in time to see Matt after his challenge." Hayes said, although he was only guessing... he didn't have a clue how long it'd take to explore the cave or how long a Gym Battle would take. "...And if it looks like it'll take a long time, we can always come back and check on Matt before it's too late." Hayes added after a pause, thinking he'd like to hear about how it went afterwards. If Teddy agreed, he'd lead them out of the PokeCenter and in the direction of the cave.

Matt entered the dimly lit gym, his eyes taking a moment to focus. The first things he noticed in the gym were the wooden floors and stone walls, as well as two Pokemon statues with a man standing next to one of them. The man saw Matt enter and quickly greeted him. "Hiya! I can tell you have what it takes to become a Pokemon champ. I'm no trainer, but I can tell you how to win! Let me take you to the top!" Eagerly requested the man. Matt was so bewildered that all he could do was nod. "All right! Let's get happening! Brock uses Rock-type Pokemon, so bringing a Water or Grass-type Pokemon is a good idea. Don't try shocking his Pokemon with Electric-types attack though, they'll fizzle out! Good luck, champ in the making!" He cheered. Matt awkwardly walked forward, grateful for the information, even if he already knew all of that. He cleared his throat after not noticing anyone in sight. "Hello? I'm here to challenge the Gym Leader." Matt called out. Maybe I'm too early and they aren't even here yet?

Brock straightened from his kneeling position as he heard a voice call out to challenge him. He had been rearranging his rock garden in the far corner of the gym, finding it a soothing pastime when he wasn't out on Mt. Moon excavations. He stood, dusting himself off and stepping out from around one of the larger boulders so that his challenger could properly see him, giving a leisurely wave. "Over here!" He called with a relaxed smile. "Sorry about that, I was caught up in a little project. So you're here to battle the Gym Leader eh? That would be me. I'm Brock, it's nice to meet you." He nodded, tossing a pokeball up a few times in his hand casually. "Think you can break through my rock type's defenses?" He grinned, catching the pokeball once more. "Guess there's an easy way to find out." He chuckled. "Let's get started then." He said before finally sending out his geodude. It had been a while since he'd had a battle, so he was certainly looking forward to this one.

Matt heard someone respond to him from the corner of the gym, and soon a man with dark skin, brown spikey hair, and closed eyes emerged from behind one of the larger boulders in the gym, waving as he approached. The man apologized for being hidden, talking about a project he was working on. He then introduced himself as Brock, the leader of the gym before pulling out a Pokeball. Matt stood there, quiet and nervous as Brock sent out a Geodude and initiated the battle. Matt was motionless for a few moments as his hands began to shake. A grin slowly spread across his face as the excitement built up inside of him. He had started his Pokemon adventure less than three days ago, and he was already face-to-face with the first Gym Leader of Kanto. His excitement pushed out any trace of fear or nervousness he had, and he looked Brock in the eyes with a fierce glare of determination. "My name's Matt, thank you for accepting my challenge." The young trainer called out as he pulled his own Pokeball from his belt. "Let's see if I have to what it takes to become League champ... Go, Mudkip!" Matt said, throwing his Pokeball forward and sending his Mudkip into battle.

Brock stared at Matt, unable to help but notice that he was a bit shaky. Most beginning trainers were nervous about their first gym battle, it was to be expected, but Brock began to wonder if the kid was scared stiff. It took him a moment to collect himself it seemed before at long last a smile spread on Matt's face, and then the fire sparked in his eyes. There, now things were starting to move again. Brock smiled at Matt as he introduced himself and thanked him for accepting his challenge. "You're welcome Matt. Let's see what you've got!" He watched as the boy released a mudkip to fight his geodude. "A water type eh? Not a bad choice for type match ups, but it's going to take more than that to defeat us!" Brock challenged. "Geodude, let's shake things up with a magnitude!" He commanded, and the small boulder began to slam the ground with his fists, causing the ground to shake and the mud fish to lose his balance and topple over. "Your future looks a little shaky champ." He chuckled, teasing Matt a bit lightheartedly.

Brock commented on Matt's choice of a Water-type Pokemon, but didn't seem phased by it. He took initiative in the battle and commanded his Geodude to use Magnitude, which Matt was most afraid of. He knew if it was a high enough Magnitude it could knock Mudkip out in a single hit. The entire ground shook, and Matt had a hard time keeping his footing. Mudkip had a harder time, and ended up falling over, taking some damage in the process. Matt kept his Pokedex out, using it to monitor his Pokemon's health and stats. Still over half health, we're doing okay... He thought, though he knew Magnitude could hit much harder next time. Brock made a teasing remark about Matt's future looking shaky, and Matt chuckled at that one. "We'll see about that. Mudkip, use Mud-slap!" Matt said, putting empasis on 'see'. "Kip!" Mudkip peeped in agreement and began charging at Geodude. It slid to a stop a few feet in front of Geodude, and used its momentum and tail fin to sling a handful of the recently disturbed earth at Geodude's face. Not only would the attack be super-effective, but it would lower Geodude's Accuracy for the next attack. "Good job Mudkip, now get some distance!" Matt commanded, and Mudkip hopped backwards a few times.

Looks like imgur is working on gaia again for now... Who knows how long it'll last >w>;;
Also, mud slap does 20 damage, so after applying effectiveness, it does 40 total damage. I'm sure you just got the numbers mixed up thinking about the end result, but just letting you know~
Leader Brock
Ah good, so Matt had a sense of humor. Brock snickered a bit at Matt's comment and the emphasis on see when he realized that his next move was a mud slap. "Heh! Nice one." He laughed good naturedly. "Still, Geodude's part ground type, he's used to a little dirt in his eyes." Brock explained, watching as Matt asked his mudkip to get some distance. "I'm afraid distance isn't going to help you here. Another magnitude geodude, let's really rock their world!" He commanded. Angry about the mud slap, geodude channeled his frustration into really pounding into the ground, much harder than it had last time. This time it caused smaller rocks to go flying and smacking into the mudkip, and when the last one pelted the mud fish, it was knocked out. "Sorry Matt. I tried to warn you; it's going to take more than a type advantage to get past us." He offered a sympathetic smile. "Your mudkip did very well though. That was an excellent use of strategy, unfortunately he just didn't have the endurance to back it up." Brock nodded to the water type.

The second Magnitude was much stronger, so strong it caused Matt to lose his footing and drop to all fours. When the attack had ended he looked up to see his Mudkip fainted. He quickly pushed himself up and returned Mudkip to its Pokeball. "You did great buddy, get some rest... I'm sorry." He said, feeling guilty he let it get knocked out in the first place. Brock offered some advice and compliments paired with a kind smile, and while Matt appreciated it, he wasn't about to give up. He already had his second Pokemon planned in case Mudkip did get knocked out, and threw its Pokeball high into the air. "It's not over yet! Go, Skarmory!" He yelled, bringing Skarmory out for its first ever battle. "Skaaa!" Cried the polished metal bird as it began hovering in place, staring down the Geodude with a fierce gaze. "Now you're not the only one with a Sturdy Pokemon, and we no longer have to worry about Magnitude." Matt said across the field, feeling confident.

No worries!
Leader Brock
The mudkip had done well, but the magnitude was just too much to handle. At least Matt wasn't mad at his pokemon, confident that this battle wasn't over as he sent out a skarmory next to counter his magnitude with ground immunity. "I see! Well then, I'd better up my game then. Geodude, return." He held out his pokeball, shooting the red beam of light out at the rock to return him to his pokeball. "Onix, it's time to battle!" He called out the large rock snake next into battle against the steel type to give his geodude a break. "Sorry for the switch up, but steel types are quite durable, I agree. I'm going to need the extra power." He suggested. "Let's show them what I mean onix, use rock tomb!" He commanded, and the rock giant tossed large boulders forward to try and crush the bird underneath.

Matt was caught off guard when Brock returned his Geodude and sent Onix out instead. He knew he should have predicted it though, Matt would've done the same if he was in the same position. "Crap I wasn't expecting a switch, that was a good move... Skarmory, watch out!" Matt mumbled to himself, already working on back-up plans, before calling out to his active Pokemon. Onix swapping out shook the ground Matt was standing on, but Skarmory was fine, hovering in the air above him. It wasn't fine for long though, as Onix used Rock Tomb as soon as it came out, sending rocks crashing down on Skarmory. The steel bird was knocked to the ground, slowed down from the attack. However, it began flapping its wings and took off back into the air defiantly. "Way to hold on, Skarmory! Counter-attack with Metal Claw!" Matt called out, glad Skarmory was okay. Skarmory's claws glowed a bright silver as it flew towards Onix, and raked its claws across Onix's stone body for a super-effective hit. He knew Skarmory couldn't stand another Rock Tomb, and was already planning his next move. After landing the hit Skarmory cried out angrily, upset the rocks messed up its plumage and using its anger to boost its Attack, before circling back toward Matt's side.

Yeah, to be honest, Sturdy is more handy in earlier levels when OHKO's are more likely to occur, so for brock's gym pokemon, it's perfect, because grass types come in and wreck him with x4 weaknesses, but sturdy gives him a chance to fight back. Otherwise though, not great in the longer run >w>
Leader Brock
Brock chuckled as Matt was caught off guard by his switch. Good, he was glad to be keeping the boy on his toes. It was his job as a gym leader to provide trainers with a challenge to earn their badge. The skarmory was able to avoid any ground based attacks thanks to being able to fly above it, but it wouldn't be able to dodge boulders hurled from above quite so easily. As Brock predicted, the bird was knocked to the ground by the rock tomb, it's metal battered by the heavy rocks, but Matt countered with a metal claw. That certainly took a chunk out of his onix, but the sturdy pokemon was able to take the hit better than his geodude would have. The skarmory looked quite upset, but brock knew that it was going down this next round of boulders. "One more time onix, let's bury this bird!" He commanded. The massive rock snake roared in agreement, sending another barrage of boulders at the skarmory, and this time, it didn't get back up.

The level difference between Brock and Matt's Pokemon was becoming painfully apparent as Brock's Onix moved first against, using Rock Tomb to drop more boulders down on Skarmory. "Skarmory, try to dodge!" Matt called out. Skarmory did its best, but one clipped its wing, causing it to fall into another one and was sent crashing into the ground. As soon as it fell Matt knew it was out and returned it to its Pokeball. "You did some serious damage, Skarmory. Well done, we'll take it from here. Your turn, Bulbasaur!" Matt said, encouraging his fainted Pokemon before sending out the next one. From the Pokeball's bright red energy emerged Matt's first Pokemon in this region, the starter he got from Professor Oak himself. "Saaaur!" It cried out, taking a wide step and rooting itself. Matt knew Bulbasaur was he best bet at winning. He hadn't battled with Eevee yet and it didn't have any moves that Brock's Pokemon wouldn't resist, and Sableye was too frail to finish the job. There was also Heracross... But Matt was keeping him in the back as a last resort. He knew Brock's Onix was faster and would attack first, so all he could do was hope his Bulbasaur could hold out long enough to get a super-effective attack off. "Just hold on Bulbasaur and wait for your chance to attack!"

pfffttttttt a 4.... Brock just: "Well..... This is awkward..."
Leader Brock
The skarmory had made a noble effort in the attempt to dodge his rock tomb, but in the end onix's strength and the large number of boulders won out, clipping the steel type's wing and sending it to the ground. Brock had to agree with Matt though, onix had sustained some serious damage from that metal claw, and now his opponent was sending out a bulbasaur to challenge him. Brock gave Matt a gentle smile. "Wow, you're really throwing every type advantage you've got huh?" Brock chuckled, recalling the onix and sending his geodude out once again to replace it. "Normally I try to take it easy on beginners, but you're really putting the pressure on, so sorry if I have to keep switching things up on you." He gave Matt a good natured grin. "Sorry geodude, I know you're tired, but give me one last magnitude." Brock encouraged. The boulder gave a light nod. That last magnitude had really taken a lot out of him on top of his injuries, but he still pounded the ground as best he could. Unfortunately, in his weakened condition, he just couldn't muster enough force to give more than a light tremble. Brock frowned lightly, but it was to be expected. His pokemon were tough, but they weren't machines. They had to run out of steam eventually.

Brock commented on Matt's use of type advanage with a kind, teasing smile. Matt smiled back, despite having lost two Pokemon he was having the time of his life battling his first Gym Leader. He knew Brock was going easy on him, but it was still a challenging match and a learning experience. "Gotta take advantage of what you have, right?" Matt responded. Brock wasted no time and switched Geodude back in as soon as Matt sent out Bulbasaur. Matt again wasn't expecting the switch, but it made sense since Onix was his strongest Pokemon and should keep it for last. Brock then apologized for all the switching, saying that he usually took it easy on beginners but that Matt was pressuring him. He couldn't help but grin a little bit wider and get embarrassed over the compliment. Brock then commanded Geodude to use Magnitude again. "Bulbasaur, brace yourself!" He said in response. Bulbasaur sunk lower as the ground trembled beneath them, much weaker than the other two times. It wasn't surprising that Geodude had ran out of energy since it had faced three of his Pokemon now. But now was Matt's chance to counter-attack. "Now it's our turn! Bulbasaur, use Vine Whip!" He commanded. Two vines shot out of the Grass-type's bulb at blinding speeds and connected with the Geodude for a super-effective attack, knocking it down to the ground it had just shaken up. "Yes!! Good job, Bulbasaur!" He cheered for a moment. "Get ready though, Onix is about to come back out." "Saur!" It growled confidently, digging its front paw into the ground.
