Hayes explained that someone had dropped off his Pokedex at the Viridian Pokemon Center and that he'd share the rest of the information later. Matt nodded in agreement to Hayes' comment about being ready to collapse. Matt yawned and stretched his hands into the air, the events of the day finally hitting him. "Let's head up to the room then, I'm just about ready to call it a night too." Matt said over the sounds of Teddy stifling a laugh. The three went down the hallway towards the room just in time to see Nurse Joy and a Chancy exiting their room. She saw them and waved at them. "You have some very lively Pokemon. Please try to get some rest, you are growing boys after all." She said with a kind smile before continuing down the hall. Matt was the first to enter the room. Much to his relief it didn't seem like any of the Pokemon had gotten too wild, though he was quickly greeted by Mudkip, Bulbasaur, and Skarmory. Sableye was crawling along the wall near the window, and Heracross was sitting against the bottom bunk. Matt greeted each of his Pokemon while walking towards his bunk that Eevee was currently curled up on. "Hey guys! Thank you for being good, you all ready for bed?" He asked as he took off his beanie and jacket and threw them onto his bag near the bunk. He crawled onto the bottom bunk, trying not to disturb the Eevee laying in the direct center. He noticed a large cot a few feet away from the bunkbeds that had not been there before. Once he had crawled into bed he was joined by Mudkip and Bulbasaur, and Skarmory curled up at the foot of the bed. Matt petted the curled up Eevee before rubbing Heracross' head. "The gang's all here again." Matt said to the other two trainers with a tired grin.

Hayes stared at the back of Teddy's head the entire walk over to the room, watching as he tried to stifle the laughter unsuccessfully. It wasn't easy to decide what to do about it, but before he'd been able to think of anything Nurse Joy had appeared, leaving the room he assumed he'd be staying in and commenting on the Pokemon in it before heading in the direction of the entrance. After a moment the three of them entered the room, and the first thing he noticed were all the Pokemon in it; Nurse Joy hadn't been exaggerating about them. I didn't think it took me that long. He thought, looking around at... at least three new additions, one of which he didn't even recognize; a large steel bird. Although, I guess even I've added a couple... He thought, the fact that he'd added to his own team hadn't actually sunk in, even after all that time. It took a second after taking it all in before he walked over to the cot, upon which he promptly fell back on.
"...Is that Met-" Hayes stopped himself, looking up at a Butterfree flitting about in the room. "I mean, did Metapod evolve?" He asked aloud, bringing a hand up to stifle a yawn. "I must've missed a lot." He added afterwards, turning his head in the direction of the bunk beds. "And are all of those yours, Matt? I don't even recognize one of them..." Hayes said, looking back up at the ceiling after a moment as he made a conscious effort to stay awake.
He unclipped his belt and laid it down next to his bag, having dropped it beside the cot after he'd fell back on it. Once he'd done so, Hayes would go over how he'd spent the day after they'd split up; an unsuccessful search in the forest, encountering a couple unexpected Pokemon in the city, and all the Bug-types in the forest he'd encountered on the way back... although he congratulated Matt on having caught a Heracross before he went into it everything.

When Teddy got back to the room, all of Teddy's Pokemon had made their way onto the top bunk of the bed. Oddly enough, Munchlax included, Teddy began to wonder if he would ever see the Pokemon awake and concious. Apart from Butterfree who was flitting around, they had all fallen asleep in a pile. Teddy imagined that Butterfree was just enjoying her new wings, considering the limited maneuverability she had as a Metapod.
When Hayes got back to the room, he commented on all of the new Pokemon that he hadn't met, becoming quite startled at the sight of Butterfree. "Yeah. She evolved just as we left the forest. I was super stressed. Thought she was broken. But then she surprised us all!" Teddy said, Butterfree coming to land on his arm for a moment, before flying off to the bed with the rest of the Pokemon. Teddy stretched out his arms and yawned. "Day two of our Pokemon Journey is done with. Tomorrow will be another exciting day I bet. I think I might get some shut eye." Teddy said, climbing up the ladder into the bed with his Pokemon, of whom he curled around. Totodile and Houndour moving around and sitting on him to get comfortable.
With Teddy's head poking out towards his friends, he listened to Hayes talk about his journey a bit more, before drifting off to sleep.

Matt got comfortable on the lower bunk while Teddy and Hayes entered the room. Hayes seemed caught off-guard by all the Pokemon in the room, and seemed to stare at Skarmory for a moment. Teddy and Hayes talked about Metapod evolving into Butterfree before Hayes asked if all the Pokemon around his bed were his, mentioning that he didn't even recognize one of them and congratulated him on finally catching a Heracross. Matt beamed proudly at his friend. "Yup! Caught Heracross at the end of the forest, he was guarding the exit. I found the Eevee just being given away on the side of the street, and this is Skarmory - a Steel/Flying type native to Johto that my parents sent to me." Matt explained. Matt ended up returning all his Pokemon to their Pokeballs after a few minutes of Hayes' story as he slowly began to get smothered by them all in the small bed. A few minutes after he dozed off to sleep. Matt woke up early, before the sun had peaked over the mountain ridge of the city. He was so used to waking up early while working at the daycare that it was just habit at this point. It took a moment for him to fully gain consciousness, but when he did he quickly got out of bed, put on his clothes, gathered his supplies, and wrote a note telling the others he went to the gym and he'd let them know how it went before quietly slipping out of the room.

It hadn't been long after Matt had woken up and left until he did as well, although he'd tried to delay the inevitable and enjoy an actual bed (/ cot) before he had to get up, as he knew it was only a temporary thing. After a time, he sat up after an unsuccessful attempt to go back to sleep and flicked the blanket he'd covered himself with down at his feet; all of his belongings on the floor next to the head of the bed, including the majority of his clothes. Hayes slid off the side of the bed and picked up the clothes he'd tossed aside last night, walking over to the sink in the room with the bundle of clothes under one arm. After he splashed a bit of water on his face to wake himself up, he pulled on his pants and headed back over to the bag, looking up at Teddy on the top bunk; on the spur of the moment, he grabbed the edge of the pillow he'd used and tossed it over in Teddy's direction, aiming for his exposed head as he slept.
"It's time to get up, Teddy." He'd say after the pillow had landed, and then start to pull his shirt on over his head.

The pillow hit Teddy square in the face and then fell down. He opened his bleary eyes to the new day ahead of him and his companions. Slowly but surely, he woke up all of his Pokemon, nudging them with his feet or pushing them around the bed. They all eventually woke up except Munchlax, naturally. Hopping down from his bed, his Pokemon all made their way down through flight or athletic skill. Teddy pulled out from his knapsack Munchlax's Pokeball and returned him to it. It was easier that way.
After bidding good morning to his team, he returned the rest of them to their Pokeballs. He placed them neatly in his knapsack and washed his face in the sink. "Looks like Matt's headed off for his gym battle. Very eager" Teddy said with Matt's note in hand. Teddy was barely functioning as it was, he was certainly not in the mood for a swim this morning. "What say we grab some breakfast and plan out a training schedule? Need to get to grips with my new team" he mentioned to Hayes in passing.

It didn't look like the pillow had had much of an effect, but he didn't mind. He looked up at Teddy at the mention of Matt and a gym battle, holding a note in hand, and he was surprised... he hadn't heard about that.
"I didn't even see that, he's challenging the gym?" Hayes asked, remembering how he'd talked about becoming League Champion in the forest. "That's a surprise, I thought he'd have waited a bit..." He continued, but trailed off at the end. He hadn't actually thought too much about what he'd do in Pewter, or going forward on the trip, but he thought it admirable that Matt already knew what he wanted to do. He grabbed the belt that held all of his Pokeballs and put it inside his sack as Teddy brought up breakfast. "I like the sound of that, all I had yesterday was a bit of honey, I think." He said, picking up the bag as he stood up, the two of them leaving the room after a while.
"I need to grab a shower, though, do you mind picking up something for me?" He'd ask him as they walked down the hall, explaining he didn't really care what it was... the PokeCenter probably didn't have anything absurd on the menu, after all. "I'll meet you in the cafeteria, then." Hayes said, heading off in a different direction in order to grab a quick shower. After he'd finished and changed, Hayes would head in the direction of the cafeteria to meet Teddy.

Teddy and Hayes decided to meet down in the cafeteria, whilst Hayes partook in the Pokemon Centres hospitality. Teddy ran down the stairs to the cafeteria as fast as he could. It wasn't that full of trainers, there were a few dotted about with their various Pokemon. Looked like a good range from various regions too. They all looked rather intent eating their breakfast, Teddy wondered how many had gym encounters or had already fought for a badge.
Before starting on the mammoth task of feeding himself, he needed to feed his Pokemon. Releasing all of his Pokemon, he set to picking the right food for each one. Placing down a plate of food in front of his sleeping Munchlax, he hoped it might eventually wake to eat as many of the Snorlax line do. There was no movement however. Opening his bag, Teddy pulled out a couple of berries and sprinkled them onto it's food. He had some Pomegg berries left over from his time in Viridian. Suddenly, the Pokemon began to stir."LAAAAAAXXX~"it growled and immediately pounced on the food. Teddy knelt down in front of it and patted it on the head. "It's a pleasure to meet you Munchlax. I'm Teddy. Your trainer now" Teddy said, continuing on her introduced the Munchlax to the rest of the team who seemed equally happy their new team mate was awake.
Getting up for his own food, Teddy came back to the table with around ten bowls each of what he believed was various dishes, only to find the majority of them to be jelly filled doughnuts. Teddy wasn't fussy and dug in immediately, leaving half for Hayes when he arrived.

It didn't take too long to get down to the cafeteria, and it had been easy to spot Teddy once he had; his companion was surrounded by Pokemon, including the Munchlax he'd given to him before splitting up back in the forest. Hayes smiled as he approached the table, glad it appeared to be doing well, but the sight of it eating got him wondering about his own Pokemon and what he'd be feeding them. Instead of joining him at the table, Hayes stopped and looked around for where he'd find the Poke-food, and after spotting it he made his way over and grabbed enough for a couple of his Pokemon, and then headed back over to where Teddy had been and joined him and all of the Pokemon at the table.
"So. Training schedule, huh?" Hayes said as he sat down, reaching around his back and unclipping a couple of Pokeballs from his belt. "I hadn't thought too much about that, or what I'd do in the city..." He admitted, releasing Bulbasaur and Ditto and then putting the Pokeballs away. In a familiar flash of light, the two of them appeared on the ground; although Ditto appeared to take a moment longer, and when it did it was in the form of Bulbasaur as well. Bulbasaur looked perplexed as it stared at it's doppelganger, and then up to Hayes, as if to ask him. "It's okay, Bulbasaur, don't worry about it." He assured it as he lowered down a bowl of food for the two of them. It looked up at him for another couple seconds, until it eventually decided to eat; although it occasionally looked up at the doppelganger, as if to see if it was still there. It stayed as a Bulbasaur and pretended to eat alongside it for a time, until it returned to normal and went under the table while it wasn't looking; apparently it'd had enough of being a Bulbasaur. "I saw a cave on my way out of the forest last night, though, and I thought I'd go and check it out today, if you wanted to come along?" Hayes asked Teddy after a time, unfazed by Ditto's actions as he started on his own meal. "Oh man, these doughnuts are great!" He blurted out after a couple bites, feeling like it had already improved his mood.
As if on cue, Ditto emerged from underneath the table, except as a Butterfree instead of a Bulbasaur. It wasn't a surprise to him, but he still struggled to hold back a chuckle as he watched it float around Teddy and his actual Butterfree. "I didn't even tell you last night, did I? One of those Pokemon I ran into... that's it." Hayes said, a bit of pride in his voice. "Actually... have you seen a Ditto before?" He asked after a moment, realizing he might not have.

Matt had arrived to the Gym before the sun had even fully rose over the mountains surrounding the town, leaving him walking through a relatively dark town. As he approached the Pokemon Gym he noticed the nights weren't on yet. "Crap, did I get here too early?" Matt mumbled to himself, disappointed. He was about to head back to the Pokemon Center when he noticed someone standing in front of the Gym and walked over to them. "Morning, are you here to challenge the Gym too?" Matt asked the stranger. The boy seemed startled by Matt's approached as he lept back slightly. Matt then noticed a tent and camping equipment next to him. Has he been here all night? He wondered. The trainer regained his composure and looked Matt over. "Yes I am, and I was first so get in line! I'm going to be the first today to beat Brock and get my first badge!" The Youngster said proudly, his shorts flowing in the slight morning breeze. "But they still aren't open yet, so I guess I could warm up by battling you first!" He continued, pulling a Pokeball off of his belt and pointing it at Matt. Matt was caught off-guard by the sudden battle challenge, but quickly recovered and didn't hesitate to agree. This would be his actual trainer battle, and he felt his hands trembling with excitement. He knew all the rules, but this was the first time he'd apply them all. He backed up roughly ten feet and pulled out a Pokeball and his Pokedex. The Youngster threw their Pokeball forward, releasing a Gastly. Matt hadn't seen this Pokemon, but a quick scan with his Pokedex told him it was a Ghost/Poison type called Gastly. Matt took Mudkip's Pokeball from his belt and threw it forward. The battle started immediately with Mudkip using Mud-slap. The Gastly counter-attacked with Lick, luckily not Paralyzing Mudkip as its effect. Mudkip fired a Water Gun after and knocked the Gastly out.

Matt cheered after Mudkip was able to knock out the Gastly without taking much damage. Mudkip happily scurried over to Matt, who picked him up and hugged his Water-type Pokemon. "Good job buddy, you did great!" He said. The trainer seemed obviously upset and returned the Gastly to its ball before holding out another Pokeball. "Don't get cocky, that was just the first of my six Pokemon! Go, Dratini!" He yelled, releasing a small, blue, serpent-like Pokemon. Assuming the new Pokemon was a Water-type, he returned Mudkip to its ball and sent out Bulbasaur before scanning the new Pokemon with his Pokedex. "Wait, it's a Dragon-type?!" Matt exclaimed, utterly surprised. "Crap, Dragons resist most elemental types... Bulbasaur, use Tackle!" Matt commanded after recovering from the surprise. Bulbasaur tackled the Dratini before it could even react, and knocked it out in one hit.

Even more frustrated then before, the trainer returned his second fainted Pokemon to its ball and sent out a new Pokemon. Matt knew this one, recognizing it as the Ground-type Sandshrew. Although Bulbasaur had the type-advantage, he didn't want to wear out the two Pokemon he planned on challenging the Gym Leader with so he returned Bulbasaur to its Pokeball and sent out Mudkip. "You've got this, Mudkip!" Matt cheered, encouraging his Pokemon. The two Pokemon squared off for a few moments before Matt took initiative and issued the first command. "Mudkip, use Water Gun!" Mudkip took a deep breath and spat a torrent of water forward, hitting the Sandshrew and sending it flying backwards a few feet, knocked out.

"Good job Mudkip, take a break!" Matt said, returning Mudkip to its Pokeball so it could get some rest. He placed the ball back on his belt and took off Bulbasaur's. Mudkip had already taken damage and Bulbasaur had a move that could regain health so he figured it'd be easier just to keep Bulbasaur out for the rest of the battle. He also felt slightly bad that he had one-shot this trainer's last two Pokemon. "Finish this off, Bulbasaur!" Matt said, a slight tone of guilt in his voice. Seeing Matt swap out for a Grass-type seemed to make him happy, as he eager swapped Pokemon and sent out an Abra. Normally Matt would have been concerned if someone sent a Psychic-type in on Bulbasaur, but in this case Matt knew for a fact that Abras only knew Teleport for the first levels, so there was literally no threat. He sighed under his breath. "Bulbasaur... Use Tackle." He said. Bulbasaur nodded and charged at the Abra, crashing into it and knocking it out in one hit again.

The trainer was practically throwing a tantrum at this point, and Matt just felt embarrassed at this point. He had decided not to switch his Pokemon out anymore, hoping to give the trainer some advantage with his remaining two Pokemon. The Youngster returned the fainted Abra, clipping the ball back to his belt before throwing out another Pokemon. This time a yellow mouse-like Pokemon appeared out of the red energy of the Pokeball, and Matt instantly recognized it since he had accidentally caught one earlier in Viridian Forest. Like the rest of his Pokemon, this Pikachu looked under-leveled. Matt knew that most Pikachu had the ability of Static, that had the chance to inflict Paralysis on physical contact, which is the last thing he'd want before challenging the Gym Leader. "Bulbasaur use Vine Whip." Matt said unenthusiastically. Bulbasaur understood his tone and the vines came out at a very leisurely pace, still fast and hard enough to hit the Pikachu and knock it out in one hit.

"Grrrr! I'm not done yet, quit looking down on me! I saved my best Pokemon for last, it even has a Hidden Ability! Go, Dratini!" He practically growled, sending out another Dratini. Matt was actually surprised he had another Dratini. Having a Dragon-type Pokemon on a team was rare with, but two? Matt was more impressed with this trainer's ability to find rare Pokemon than with his battling skills. However, a single Tackle was all it took to knock it out. He cried out in frustration, returning his final fainted Pokemon and hastedly began packing up his camping supplies, grumbling something about having to go grind in a cave for a few more levels. Before Matt could ask the trainer any questions or give a few tips, he was gone, leaving him alone in front of the gym. Matt was healing his Pokemon when the Gym lights turned on and he heard the front door unlock. Did the Gym Leader walk past us while we were battling? He wondered, confused.
