There were too many in the way. Too many <********> Outlanders between himself and Kat. He was trapped on a different part of the battlefield, fighting for his life...fighting just to see her.

Snarling, Chungu shoved the lion before him away with a heavy strike--just in time for her to fall. In time to hear her screams rip through the air before they faded away, just as her life did. There was no coming back from that final blow.

He had wondered, more than once, what he would feel once she was dead. Would some lingering affection make itself known? Would he mourn? Would he be joyful? As much as he had considered it, he had never been able to answer his own question until now.

He felt relief. He was free of her.

But the battle was not over. The Outlanders suddenly started moving in another direction, and he realized with a jolt that their target now was Calypso. And if any realized who he was, they'd be coming for him too. Vengeance was in the air, and these lions would be hungry for it. He needed...to do what, exactly? The temptation to flee was real, but he would never be accepted by these Stormborn if he did. He'd traveled with them long enough to know how they felt about cowardice. Fleeing might well spell death anyways.

No. He needed to try to fight through them, and make sure both of Kat's wayward offspring lived to enjoy true freedom.

Kalaran could give these Stormborn one thing...they certainly knew how to make a kill. He slipped away from an attacker with easy grace, ruby eyes glittering with some twisted light as he saw the lioness fall. A crushed skull, yes, good...and the last vestiges of her screams still quivered in the air like a song. He only regretted that he had not managed to drag his claws through her flesh himself.

Ah, but it looked like they would strike at the invading party's own...leader? Instigator? Hmm...he felt nothing for her, but he supposed he should try to defend her nonetheless. It was as good an excuse to inflict pain on another as any. He flexed his claws within their sheaths and leapt forward.

((Feel free to throw someone at these guys! They are Stormborn-aligned.))

- Joining as a rogue, fighting on the side of the Stormborn. Feel free to interact with her~

The flayed lioness had finally made it to her destination, she had been following Calypso's scent for days despite her Goddess sister's best efforts to deter her from following the deranged lioness into a personal war, sadly though Maya refused to listen. She was never one to be controlled, no one could stop her now. Slowly her green eyes narrowed as she sat in the shadows and watched the brutal assault unfold.

For a long while Maya kept her presence hidden as she frantically searched the battlefield for signs of the darker lioness, Calypso had no idea that Maya had put this much effort into following her this far.

This crusade was personal for her as well, the correlation between Calypso's relationship with her mother who scorned her mirrored Maya's own personal history, and because of this twisted logic a vengeance was born and bore it's self deep inside the scarred female, so deep her soul was now bound to Calypso's victory. Maya would do anything to see this fated dream turn true.

When the cries of Kat reached her torn ears the brown lioness lowered herself, eyes narrowing as they focused on Calypso, who had just made it into her line of view. Slowly the lioness emerged, exposing herself as she made a mad dash toward the darker female. Maya would stand beside Calypso and fight for the winning side.

Terpsichore gave a grunt at Thalia's response, and then froze as a sound neither raven wanted to hear echoed below them. A scream. A scream from a voice that they had never imagined making that noise.

"That... that sounded like...."

Then, without another word, the brown raven dove frantically into the crowd, soaring above them at what was probably a bit too close for comfort until she was close to that familiar red and black form.

With too much red. Too much.

Terpsichore arrived just in time to see their mistress... just stop moving, stop screaming. She stared in shock the unmoving form, before cawing angrily and flapping away. How could this happen?! How?! Kat had always seemed untouchable, unbeatable. She zipped around in the air before pausing as she spotted another familiar form in the crowd -- the treacherous daughter who started this.

Eyes narrowed, Terp swooped closer and began circling above the lioness, high enough for her to go unharmed but low enough for her to be noticeable by everyone around them, and started cawing as loudly as she could manage. Calypso might be able to slip into the shadows, hide while others did her dirty work, but the bird would be damned if she managed to get away now. She would make sure that everyone knew where Calypso was, and knew to target her.

She would make sure that everyone knew to kill this one.

It had almost seemed like a stalemate, before the Stormborn male leapt at him, but Ajani was waiting for him.

Crouching low to the ground, the black lion waited until he was just a few feet above him before rocketing upwards towards his stomach. The two clashed roughly into each other before falling to the ground and writhing in an angry, snarling mass of fur.

Even as he fought though, Ajani could tell that while this one knew how to fight, had been taught how to and had experience with it, he also had never fought someone with combat experience.... and unfortunately for him, Ajani was a seasoned warrior of a fighting pride.

He would ensure that this lion would not be walking out of this unscathed.

Shetani snorted at the attempt to goad her, but she didn't bother continuing the banter. She cared little for how they viewed their pride, given that they were stubborn enough to go into this blindly, and to be frank, responding back would only be giving them what they want -- a distraction.

She narrowed her eyes as they spoke to one another, and then started to move as if to leap after her, but she hissed as the one she'd pinned down leaned up to bite onto her other paw. She had a death wish, didn't she?

Her eyes narrowed as she heard the scream ahead of them, but she didn't turn to look. To be honest, she didn't care much for Katiti anyway. The lioness was cocky and her birds were annoying... but she was one of the Queen's viziers and a colleague.

Shifting around, she dug her unsheathed paw down on Altuna's throat, drawing out droplets of blood onto her claws, "The lot of you really should have done your research into our pride before attacking. The thing about Outlanders..." Her teeth flashed in the light as she gave a savage grin at her, "... is that we are not one of those sniveling groups you normally target. We are a vengeful pride, one whose history is drenched in war, in combat. We thrive in it."

Her gaze lifted up as one of Kat's ravens began making a racket, "The death of our own won't make any of us crumble. If anything, it simply adds coals to a fire that won't stop until all of you have paid your due."

Shetani tsked then, "There I go though, trying to lecture the young and stupid. A bad habit of mine." And then she lifted her paw up again, only to bring it swiftly down again towards the adolescent's face in an attempt to both wound her and make her let go.

I don't want to overstep how far Shetani will go with her. (though she'd totally brutally mutilate and/or kill her to send a message if she had the chance) ;o; So feel free to have her miss or something to get free!

-----

He'd gone into this assuming that he would easily overpower this Outlander, but as Hjalmar was quickly discovering, this one was (... stronger) equally matched to his strength, and he found himself focusing on batting away bites and scratches that would fatally wound him rather than trying to attack, himself. He refused to be the one that was chased away first in this fight. They'd all been taught to fight to the death for their honor, and he would never live it down.

It was this stubbornness that was his downfall. He'd decided to go on the offensive, wanted to get his own powerful strike in -- and had left an opening for Ajani to take advantage of.

He'd leaned forward to bite at Ajani's throat, hoping to close off his airway and possibly deal a killing blow, but he hadn't been expecting the claws raking against his stomach. Ajani was using his hind legs to tear at the tender flesh, and Hjalmar yowled in pain, jolting backwards in the process and accidentally exposing himself further.

The next thing he knew, there was a massive, unsheathed paw coming straight for his face.

And then everything went red as his vision was obscured by his own blood. The Outlander had torn across the right side of his face, and Hjalmar was thrown through the air, landing hard on the dirt. He could barely see through the pain, but he wouldn't discover until later that that was due to only seeing out of his left eye....

((And if anyone feels like bailing Hjalmar out, feel free.

The Captain's eyes scanned, looking for familiarity. The problem was, he didn't really know who he was looking for. Just that they would be here somewhere. False hope, really. There were some that would be Haruhi and Koharu's age, and if he looked close enough, he would see the familiar wing marking on a dark adolescent.

His attention was brought elsewhere though, to one of his own battling a darker lion. It looked like his own was winning, until he left an opportunity for the Outlander to attack. As blood fell to the ground, Ciro jumped into action. Sure he wasn't here to battle, but war was upon them, whether he wanted it or not.

Besides, pride meant family, even if they were not blood related.

Ciro found himself growling as he barrelled right into the Outlander attacking Hjalmar. How much more the blue male could fight was questionable. Ciro could at least give him the moment to leave, or else risk losing something more valuable than a swipe to the face.

"I think you should pick on someone more your size," Ciro smirked, his dark pelt matching Ajani's. His golden eyes narrowed as he stared right into the purple orbs.

Hikaru had only noticed the young male at first, but when two females almost coyly stepped up beside him the Outlander felt his stomach twist. Females could be no less dangerous than their male counterparts, and three against one definitely did not sound like a fair fight to him. One lion he had convinced himself he'd be able to take on - but three? If he was up against them all, he was going to have to re-evaluate all the decisions he made in his life that had led him up to this point.

They were mocking him, and if they were just a bunch of kids throwing names at one another Hikaru would have been embarrassed. This wasn't a childhood game, this was war. Instead of embarrassment, the young male's face flushed with anger. He would not stand to be mocked by invaders! "I am not one of you. I am an Outlander!" There was no reason for Hikaru to explain himself. The young male was completely unaware of any actual blood ties he had to the Stormborn, but if he did have access to that information... it wouldn't have mattered. His pride as an Outlander would not allow for him to be lotted in with some vile group of vagabonds.

The females were leaving, so obediently obliging the male's request for a proper duel. If it wasn't a fight to the death, this would be the way things would go. One against one, with nothing to rely on but one's own strength to secure victory. "Fat ******** chance you will!" Hikaru taunted with a smirk that showed his teeth. He was nervous, but he had trained for this... he was supposed to be ready for this.

Kus'an launched towards him, and Hikaru instinctively charged forward, his feet carrying him before his mind could think of a million reasons why this was a bad idea. They collided, and with a growl Hikaru tried to shove his paws against Kus'an's face and force the larger male back.

Her mother was dead, and for the moment the world stopped with her passing. Calypso could not feel the breath leaving her lungs, could not hear the heavy pounding of her heart. Silence, beautiful and serene fell over her for a brief moment. There, her mother's body grew cold on the ground, the corpse robbed of the finery Katiti'manina had always been fond of. Calypso would not stop the vultures picking over the corpse. She had done it, through her own machinations she had managed to put an end to her mother's cruel life.

It was the first time she felt true elation. The smile she wore reflected the broken creature that Calypso had become. With the movement of her lips, the world came back to her. She could hear the screaming, the fight like waves crashing against the stone cliffs of the Myrsky Syntynt. A dark lioness was charging to her with fury in her eyes - Calypso did not know her, but she knew that pain well. It could be blinding and all-consuming, and what a blind fool this lioness was to charge into battle against her.

She stood upon the cusp of victory, one lone lioness would not be enough to fell her. "Who are you?" Calypso barked, the sound resembling laughter without any of the joy. Malice, a familiar friend to Calypso, laced her words. The two lionesses collided, and Chausika for a moment managed to push Calypso down into the dirt. Unlike her mother, Calypso would not lay down and die. She rolled out of the way, taking a step back to her shadow.

It was strange, to know that a presence was behind her but to be unafraid of it. Glancing back over her shoulder, she looked at Maya with brief surprise. She had thought the lioness long gone, and to see her here should have made her paranoia rear its ugly serpentine head again. Back behind Maya was her brother, slinking through the battle fully aware of whose pelt his own resembled. She would not apologize to him. This was what had to be done.

"You are outnumbered. Run," she warned Chausika.

A crow swooped overhead of her, doubtless one of her mother's pets. Without a master, what harm could such a creature do? Nothing. The avian was doing its best to draw attention to her... well, let them come. Calypso clearly was finally, for once in her life, not alone.

The lioness was dead, and she had hardly put herself at risk to help bring the Monarch's Soul down. It seemed that perhaps her reputation had preceded her, but at least it had been no exaggeration of the treasure she carried. Jupe bit down on the corpse's ear, ripping flesh to pull off an extravagant earring. Spiraled gold, crafted by something otherwordly surely, with a rich red gem held in the center. A perfect piece for one of her daughters. Daijur would see to the rest - he had initiated the attack, and most of the wealth should go to him.

She dared anyone to try and wrest the reward from their paws.

Jupe passed by her mate with a simple nod of her head. "Your son is around here somewhere." He was always Daijur's son when she was mad at him. But, her voice betrayed her concern for their son. It was rare for her to show such weakness towards her children, and it was also not the time for it. She shook off whatever passing fear she had for Kus'an, and pressed into the the line of Outlanders.

He was her son, she had to trust that he would be fine. He had both of his parents' strength and tenacity, and it would surely aid him here.

"By the Storm Lords, your kind sure do like to prattle." She had moved from her mate's side, sauntering up behind Altuna and Eiran as they faced a lioness that was quite out of their league. Her son had dragged them on this foolish mission, and she would as soon as let them learn from their mistakes as she would help them. But, this lioness they faced would be trouble if left to run rampant through the battle.

"What are you compensating for with your words? Lack of skill, initiative?" Her face was grim as bone-marked legs stretched out in front of her. Her approach was steady, her intent clear.

"Children should go home," she snarled at the girls as she passed them.

Upon returning home Kadaj rushed Sia back to the den the couple once shared. They had been able to stay out of sight for almost the entirety of their journey, having only run into Stormborn lions upon reentering Outlander territory. Blood filled the air as Kadaj frowned deeply, the lion knew he was going to have to leave Sia and Tiah, they would be safe tucked away deep in the heart of the pride, right? Two females and a fresh litter of cubs, how could he leave them undefended?

The large lion had to though, and in the back of his mind he knew Sia would be able to defend the group, and knew that she would never allow a raid party to take them alive. If it came to it... she knew what needed to be done. He knew this truth as well.

The news of the Queen had reached him through his daughter Tiah, who had done her best to relay information to her father before he made his way to the battle field.

This was war.

As he conditioned to make his way toward the assault his eyes settled on a familiar figure. His Firekin friend was a sturdy lion, he could be of use.

"Akamu, follow me, we need you!" As the lion spoke he turned, continuing until he noticed Chau in the distance, defiantly standing her ground amongst a group of Stormborn. This was it, he would not lose another family member to these bastards, not today. "Chau!" Kadaj called out as both large males came to her aid, sliding in they snarled at the darker lioness and the scarred female that now stood before them.

Both males were battle-ready and stood behind Chau like dark shadows, looming over her shoulders as they readied themselves for an attack.

- on the side of the Outlanders

Akamu had only been here for a few days, so when the bloodshed broke out he found himself thrown into a war he had no stake in.

Well, that wasn't true. He had just recently learned that Katiti'manin was his cousin, so when his green eyes witnessed her fall the Firekin felt his heart sink into despair, if not for her, but for her father, a lion he had grown close to over the course of their travels.

She was of his blood, shared blood. That mattered. Wide eyes shifted from figure to figure as he searched for his uncle through all the chaos.

Had Vulcan witnessed her fall...?

Before Akamu could react a familiar voice called out, demanding his attention.

"Kadaj?!"

Quickly he took off after his friend, following him right into the thick of it, standing beside Kadaj as they joined a lioness named Chau. She must have been someone his friend knew well if he was risking his neck to defend her. It was all or nothing now, the Firekin was ready to earn his stripes.

One thing Ebbe rarely was, was late. And yet, here is was, on the blood-soaked battleground, watching the war. A sneer prevalent on his maw as his gaze swooped from his pride, to those members of this blasted Stormborn pride.

This was his home, and he'd be damned if he would let these Outsiders win. Blood may have been shed, deaths may have occurred, but no more. Not from the Outlanders at least. It was time the Monarch's Claw proved himself.

His eyes focused on one of his Claw's mates, attacking the stranger. One of the avians of Katiti's also appeared to be aiming for this lioness. She would be his target. Seeing Kadaj and Akamu approached evened out the battle's playing field. However, Ebbe didn't want to even the playing field. Blood was spilt by these creatures from an unfair attack. The male was only ready to repay the favor and have the Outlanders as the advantage in this fight. At least, against this female (and her small entourage forming).

---

While Atama didn't particular enjoy being in the company of his rival, this was a time to let bygones be bygones, and put his hatred for the Claw towards a mutual enemy. Standing beside's the Monarch's Claw, the large red lion awaited his orders.

Next to him, a smaller male, not fully developed in his mane, stood.

Even if Ata wanted to, he could not shake the adolescent. So be it. The male would need to learn the art of battle, and sometimes scuffles within the pride were just not enough. Here was the opportunity the kid could use.

"Don't die." Atama growled towards the lighter male. "I don't need your mother coming after me." He rolled his eyes as Kaoru gave the Claw a smirk.

Ata's ears flickered towards Ebbe.

"Drive out these foes," The Monarch's Claw growled, lunging into battle, aiming his unsheathed claws towards Calypso.

Atama and Kaoru followed suit, their plans to hit the darker Stormborn where Ebbe had not.

Maya
- side of the Stormborn

Wide eyes settled on the small group that had assembled in front of Calypso, Maya could feel her heart race as adrenaline started to kick in and madness started to take over, in the back of her mind chaos boiled. No one was going to ruin this for her, not after everything Calypso had done to get here. This moment belong to the darker lioness and Maya would be damned if one of these wretches tried to steal it away. Deep emerald eyes narrowed as they fixated on the smallest lion of the bunch, a male with a mane not even fully grown, this was no place for weakness and no matter how well versed this child might have felt, this would end badly for him. Maya demanded blood and this boy was now her one and only target.

It was time to pick them off one by one. Staring with the smallest of the group.

The lioness hissed as she slithered beside Calypso, passing her as soon as the small group went all in on on the darker female. Maya knew the other lioness could take care of herself. This was her chance to strike. Quickly she unsheathed her claws as long limbs reached out and dug into the younger male's side, pulling him away from his party as her teeth sunk into the flesh around his thigh. Thankfully his size made it easy for Maya to drag him back behind Calypso, where the odds were better in her favor with Stormborn to back her up. The skinned lioness had caught herself a pretty prize.

Now it was time to unwrap.

Long fangs sunk into his leg for a second time as a muffled squeal escaped her lungs, this delight was unlike any other feeling that could be described. Blood-lust had taken the lioness over. If this child wanted to experience war and bloodshed Maya would happily introduce him to it, the same way she had been introduced to pain.

Her jaws detached from his hind leg as the brown lioness used all of her weight to keep him pinned against the ground. It was long enough to claw at his face, making a mockery of her assault on the smaller lion as Maya laughed maniacally. With a wild gaze and flashing blood-soaked teeth the seer lifted her eyes to face the band she had stolen her prey from, taunting them from a distance as a claw ran up and down the young male's muzzle, digging a sharp claw into his neck every time her paw hovered over the soft flesh. Maya noticed the younger male's tears and frowned deeply. How annoying. A crybaby on top of everything else? This wouldn't do.

Was she threatening the boy's life if they continued their assault on Calypso? Maybe.

Enyo was a muscular red lioness, with a heavy black fur draped across her shoulders. Like the ravens circling above, she had been drawn here by the sounds of a battle. She had seen the gold-bedecked lioness fall, seen the tide of battle shift toward the black lioness. White teeth flashed as she snarled, letting that tide sweep her along, and when others surged forward to strike at the invader so did she. Her claws tore through hide with the precise execution of long practice, seeking revenge for the native Outlanders.

Enyo had not been here long, but she would not let that stop her from waging war. Let these invaders break themselves upon the Outlands--she, at least, was ready to make them pay in kind for every insult and injury suffered.

Chau rolled with the lioness, so lost in her own fury that she was numb to the of the impact and the feeling of rocks tearing at her side. The black lioness found her footing quickly, ignorant to her dishevelled pelt or the blood that pooled just above her eye. The fall had reopened the scar that Katiti had given her when her freedom was gifted; and the thought stung more than than the wound itself. She growled at the female, heckles standing on the back of her neck - still, Chau looked small in comparison.

“You don’t deserve to know my name, the very sound of it on your tongue would be a dishonour.” She spat back at the female, lowering herself to the ground once more - ready to pounce…

She hardly noticed that Kadaj had joined her; he towered over her, looming by her side and casting her in shadow. It was not until the other, brighter male joined him that her gaze faltered, glancing at them with pale pupils that had blown wide with adrenaline. They had come to her, for her; and for a moment her heart softened - but the moment was short lived. Her attention found the Stormborn once more, the very sight of her stoking the embers in her belly.

Then her foe was stuck at the side by one lioness; and then another. Chau felt no pride in the amount of warriors that were throwing themselves at a single enemy. She gritted her teeth and let go a breath she did not know she was holding, then the Shield lunged forward without warning, away from the two males that stood by her side to close the gap with her target once more. For a moment white teeth flashed; and then Chau found the females throat, sinking them in deep until the taste of iron flooded her mouth.

Chau knew there was a choice ahead of her, they could all pile on the lioness; end her life in the same way Katiti’s was taken. Swarmed and without a chance. It would have made her feel better for a moment, but she knew she would regret it soon after. There was no honour in this; no pride to be found. Silver eyes looked across the battlefield and as if serenity herself had intervened; she caught a glance of her Prince. She twisted her body, trying to bring the female to her knees - even if it meant going down with her.

A growl rumbled in her throat as she held on - she did not need to win the fight, just keep her here until justice could be served. “Nobody touch her.” She hissed with a mouthful of fur and flesh.

“She belongs to our Prince.”

Just as Kaoru made a hit towards the darker female, he felt a pain in his thigh as he was dragged away. His eyes widened as the misshapen female continued her assault on him. He felt himself squirming underneath her, grunts and otherwise sounds of pain emitting from his throat as she dug into his flesh. He wasn’t prepared for this. No one had truly warned him how scars could cause so much pain.

Kaoru felt himself freezing as the lioness above him toyed with his face, a claw drifting across his cheek, and his muzzle. A few tears escaped, whether it was from fear, or whether it was from pain, it had been unclear. The lion’s eyes drifted towards the group of male outlanders, struggling to remove himself from underneath Maya’s weight.

Atama had been distracted by the battle with Calypso to notice the adolescent being dragged away. He was busy trying to get the darker female to the ground. He hadn't even heard the grunts or groans from the winged male.

--

Ciro had glanced around before the darker male before him decided to do what to do. He hoped the blue reaver would move quickly before any other Outlanders decided to take a swipe. They were on their lands after all, and the pride was relatively unknown to Ciro. Just how big were they, and how many soldiers did they have lying in wait?

A flash of white caught his attention. “Ruka?” Ciro found himself whispering, as a familiar lioness was caught dragging the familiar being away. Maya?

The lion underneath the female he had once dueled was too small to be the thrall he had taken in however. Plus, a growing mane indicating quite the contrary of the gender. Ciro’s eyes narrowed as the female toyed with the younger male, realization slowly dawning on him.

“MAYA, DON’T!” Ciro shouted towards the other.

“That is what the lady said. Idiot.” He was not one of them - and he was a lesser lion for it.

Kus’san scoffed at the other male, the blush across his face did not go unnoticed, even under the layers of dark fur that covered his features. He could tell he was flustered and found some wicked amusement in trying to provoke him; even in this foreign land, in moments like this one he could feel the call of home. Conflict ran through his blood. It was his muse, mistress and siren all in one.

Kus’an reared up on his hind legs and Hikaru’s paws made contact with his chest instead of his face, stealing the air from his lungs. The dark males own legs wrapped around his parents shoulders and his claws held him in a hug. Despite his foe being smaller, he could not deny his strength, though he would never admit it outloud. In the end though, the wrestle would be determined by weight - Kus’an was larger, so when they fell they did so to his advantage

When they were free of the scuffle his large paw raised again, and he swung to hit Hikaru’s face to disorientate him. Across the ground ran several large cracks like veins in the earth, the sun was hot and the land was dry and thirsty. As the boys scuffled, Kus’an was completely unaware of the fact that the earth was beginning to separate around them.

Altuna was not above snapping at someone's ankles, especially when such an action meant they could see their quest through. White teeth sunk into Shetani’s paw and she bit down hard, letting her body become little more than dead weight. She would not harm a hair on her cousin’s pelt - Eiran was hers to protect and elevate. Shetani would not ruin this moment for her, would not taint the pride her cousin should be feeling in her bones and blood.

Air was stolen from her throat as a large claw found its way to the soft flesh, another laugh rumbling in it - a laugh in the face of fear. “You know nothing.” Golden orbs closed, the words hissing through strained breath. She would not fight with a stranger over matters that the other female clearly had no knowledge of, not when she was clearly too busy stroking her own ego.

Altuna rolled her head to the side as a paw came down, claws ran across her face - but in the moment was able to sperm away from under foot. The girl was slender and agile - like a dish under heel. Eiran had turned to face her cousin, and was greeted by a face running across her own as Altuna reunited with her. It stained her dark fur read and filled her nostrils with the scent of blood once more. ”They will sing songs about you - love.” The lavender girl whispered to her, eyes moving from her cousin to Jupe as she walked passed them.

”We will go to the flank then; as per your wishes.” It was Eiran who spoke up, turning with her cousin to leave the field.
