Umkhombo rumbled wordless agreement with Faust. The persistently strange weather in and of itself was bad enough, especially since in corresponded with their migration, but together with the other oddities and the reports that had come in, it all stirred up a sense of unease that was difficult to shake. Since the cause remained a mystery, however, there was nothing to do but keep on. Whatever risks the oddities might or might not pose, they were nothing that could be fought or guarded against. All they could do was watch, and keep a careful eye out during their travels. Maybe, if they were all very lucky, the weather would be the only thing to complain about on this journey.

His roan counterpart was right, though. Umkhombo cleared his throat. "Let's get moving! We can finish waking up while we walk."

..hmm, was that...?

The words had barely left Nobuthongo's mouth when a wayward lizard streaked right by him, tiny feet scuttling over his paws and drawing his attention away from the dappled lioness for a moment. He stared after it for a second longer before looking back to Emeka with an apologetic smile for having let his attention be stolen away.

Just as the pride is getting ready to move, lizards and strange feelings be damned, the earth beneath their feet heaves in a sudden jolt that gives way to violent shaking - it's an earthquake! Not only that, the ground fractures, a split that runs right through their midst...and along the way, swallows up Giruvegan and anyone within a three-foot radius of him! They tumble down together, falling almost four feet into the deepest section of the crack.

Event: roll a 1d6!
(For anyone not Giruvegan or gathered around him: you guys are going down! All other characters get one roll. In all cases, characters can sustain players' choice injuries.)

1-2. You may not be next to Giruvegan, but you're still in the twenty-foot path of the split, and you fall in! You're lucky enough not to be in the deepest part, but it's still a drop of 1-2 feet, and it hurts!
3-4. You don't fall victim to the split, but there's no keeping your feet! You're pitched to the ground, and won't have an opportunity to get up for well over a minute, when the shaking finally stops.
5-6. You, too, are thrown to the ground by the shaking, but once it stops, you could swear your hear a rumbling from somewhere...

The earth suddenly split open, and Afsar was in the direct line of the split. With a startled scream the orange female fell two feet down. She tried so hard to land on her feet, but Afsar's front paws rolled. It was more startling than anything, or so she thought. When she tried to get to her paws, she realized that she probably sprained one or both of them and just groaned.

"H-hey! Who's up there?!"

He'd seen the split coming. Dwa had really, honestly seen it coming and he was running. The light colored male was running as fast as he could, but the crack swallowed him right up and he fell with others.

With a growl he landed hard on his side, his head hitting a rock that had been there.

Dwa was out like a light, unsure if he was bleeding or not.

Ayana
Ithambo'hlabathi | Busisa

Ayane had a strange feeling. Something wasn’t right and she was sure she wasn’t the only one that thought this way either. She looked over to the group. They were ready to move, which she was happy for. She was tired of standing there in the rain, feeling weird things and hearing everyone else mention they didn’t feel right either.

That’s when it happened. The ground began to shake. Ayana looked up at the others. First, Giruvegan went and then others began to follow. She tried to make a dash to get out of the way, but as soon as she lifted her paw, the ground underneath her opened up. She tumbled into the void, rolling until she hit something flat. She laid there for a moment until the rumbling stopped. She rolled until her stomach, wincing when a sharp pain jolted from her back leg.

“O-Ouch,” she muttered as she looked around. She looked around, looking for anyone close by that could help her. “H-Hello? Is anyone there?”

As Umkhombo called over the group Ahlaq looked them over. Everyone seemed ready enough. The lion started to move, aiming to veer far to the side to walk at the left flank of the migrating group.

Needless to say, he didn't get far.

The sudden jolt seemed to lock his muscles. Ahlaq sim Sungus was a lion with sand in his blood. Soft and rolling sand that whispered away under your paws. Though he might have gotten used to solid ground like this in his time in the Bonelands, he certainly wasn't used to it running away from underneath him. Muscles tensed and his body low to the ground, Ahlaq's eyes whipped up after the initial jolt.

"What's that you were saying, Faust? About going before something else ha-" He hadn't even remotely enough time to process what was happening before the ground continued the shake. And then the ground beneath him was gone before he could finish his sentence. Perhaps it he had been less tense his landing would have been a bit more graceful. As it were, he wasn't. The Umholi might have landed on all four legs, but it was a hard landing that sent a jolt of pain through his joints.

"Sands and sky be damned." He spat the curse through a clenched jaw. "Are you okay?" he asked to the nearest lions that had fallen with him.

"Tired and itchy, you say?" Emeka asked, her voice lilting at the end as her mind pieced his words together. "Glad to hear you've come out of your fever, but I wonder if I have something for that itch…"

Her words trailed off as she looked down at the pouch around her neck. She hadn't noticed Nobuthongo noticing the lizard as she became distracted by the contents of her medicinal pouch and then the call of Umkhombo that it was time to leave. She had only just looked back up towards him when the ground shook. The sudden jolt came as she met his eyes, her expression almost instantly becoming one of shock and terror. The Imbiza couldn't even get a word out before there was suddenly no ground beneath her.

It's said that a cat lands on four feet. As it were, Emeka had three, and her ability at landing an unexpected fall went pretty much as you'd expect. A yell left her as she hit the ground. Her weight landed on her three legs, but she collapsed where the missing fourth hind leg would have been. Her body hit the side of the split ground and her head hit an edge where the ground had cracked. She felt woozy and the world spun. No words left her and she tried to reorient herself. Her first thought thinking of the sorts of injuries she might had sustained. Certainly there was a concussion on the list…

As everyone was really just minding their own business in the rain the ground beneath everyone closest to Giru and the immediate area surrounding them. Liyana being closest to the main sink couldn't help but feel the ground give away beneath her, paws reaching out as if to try and grab onto something but there was nothing, nothing but air and mud and bodies.

Chiko had been a little further away but not far enough because down she went when the ground gave out. She didn't fall as far as some of her pridemates but she still fell a decent enough distance that it gave her quite a shock.

Avani was, fortunate enough to have wings and took to the sky as soon as the earth shifted and circled above in the pouring rain, keeping an eye out for anyone in immediate danger.

Briefly, Cerobi was distracted by Liyana's question about if they were siblings. A question with an obvious answer clearly meant to strike up a conversation, the lioness noted, but she didn't get a chance to respond and the ground split beneath her and, along with everybody around her, she fell. It was a long fall, though much shorter than the immediate feeling of panic at the loss of the ground beneath her would have led her to believe. She hit the ground in a blur of wind and pain, making no sound and afraid to move or speak while the ground continued to shake.

As long as she kept her eyes closed and didn't move, she didn't have to acknowledge what was happening yet. To any outside observer, it might look bad if not for the tension in her face, even through the closed eyes.

((Hello, crew around Giruvegan. xD Cerobi has checked out until the shaking stops, rofl))

Nenkani was looking at the sky expecting thunder when suddenly the ground beneath her began to shake. Caught by surprise and thrown off balance, she hit the ground. Surprised and winded, she was otherwise lucky- especially for an old gal- but unable to get back to her feet while everything around her continued to shake and lions dropped into the earth before her eyes. She avoided immediate injury (so far) but she had a terrible front row seat for the rest of the show.

Pahana had been awake since the early morning. The rain was not letting up and that rain was making him very grumpy. He couldn’t actually remember ever being this wet. When the unholy had returned from his rounds he was actually fairly glad to be up on his paws as nice as it was watching the lionesses and protecting them he was fairly certain that laying down was not helping matters, his mane was plastered against his head and being as pale as he was, he was sure he looked like a drowned rat instead of a lion.

Blue eyes scanned the horizon as the darkest male amongst them encouraged them to get on their paws and start moving. Of course as he rose the rumbling started and he found himself toppled. The split in the earth shocked him and he stared at the hole in to which a portion of the pride had fallen in to including the other Inselele. Could this get any worse?

Kokulzawa wasn’t exactly happy about the rain, but having faced a drought in her life time she was happy it was raining, despite it being the dry season. The journey across the savannah to their summer grounds was proving to be a little more difficult than she had expected, this was partly because of the two cubs she was caring for. The whole pride cared for cubs of course but she was their mother.

This would be their first journey and she had to keep a close eye on them. The older Umama got to her paws slowly encouraging her babes to wake, they would be moving soon. Finding her paws was easy, letting them go from underneath her was equally so. She fell spectacularly shielding her babies as the ground rumbled and split.

She probably should have paid more mind to the rumbling from before, as the next thing Melokuhle knew, she was being thrown to the ground with a yelp. The lioness closed her eyes and scrambled against the earth with panicked claws, heart pounding as she waited for it to come to a stop.

Finally, as the feeling began to fade away, she opened her eyes slowly and warily. She was still tense as the sound of rumbling seemed to continue though. Where was it coming from? Was it going to happen again?!

And then her eyes went wide as she realized that the lions she'd been heading towards... were now gone and a giant gaping hole was in their place. Pushing herself up to her feet, Melo ran over to where a few of the other gathered lions were, trotting to a stop beside them to look down at those now trapped.

The lioness' drenched smile said exactly how she felt about the rain. Downturned ears protected her lugs against the rain, but Mokosh's mouth was open - laughing to herself and turned to the sky. A lolling tongue flicked out for raindrops. All this wet! It reminded Mo of times long gone, of the life in the valley that she'd left behind. The rain seemed to taste better there.

She was so preoccupied with her playing that the warning signs slipped right by. One moment, she was enjoying the damp, idly listening to the chatter of the abaholi; the next, the ground itself was shaking at her feet, and Mo was tumbling down with a startled, "Whoop!"

Ezinothuzi trailed behind, not saying much, but content in her silence. She felt much the same way about the rain as many of her pride-sisters - with the added discomfort of a gut feeling in her belly, warning her that something about this was all wrong. Of course, rainstorms did not usually last so long, but it was more than that. Just couldn't put her paw on it...

In mid-thought, the ground yielded beneath her. Stumbling backwards, the heavier lioness was just in time to see Mokosh's pale form vanish into the earth. Ezino lunged forward, clamping her jaws around the fleeting lioness' tail. Even as she pulled, though, she could tell it wasn't enough; her sister cried out for them both as they went over the edge.

The rain had been issue enough, the mud caked to her fur and the wet just clinging to her and making her feel a thousand times heavier. The walking in the rains was... exhausting. She'd spent most of her days close to her adoptive mother, though Umoya often insist that Chi move ahead and socialize with the others. Unlike Umoya, Chi had four perfectly working paws. Her mother only had the three, but she was capable of any other lioness that Chi saw. Still, she'd finally heeded her mother's words and had moved ahead with the group, she'd check in with the green eyed lioness some time later in the day. She'd been trying to get a good look at some of the new members, trying to gauge how handsome the males were... how strong they were.

She'd been checking out Giruvegan when the world seemed to turn itself on it's head. She'd not quite noticed the sudden unset of oddities surrounding them, but there was no way of missing the earth suddenly and terrifyingly starting to split open. "RUN!" She screeched, but at whom she did not know. Her paws were already carrying her further away from the group, but all at once she felt gravity swallowing her up, ground no longer beneath her feet.

Sauda had not felt much one way or the other about the rain. It was what it was, and in the end plenty of rain brought plenty of other good things to the lands around them. Her fur was matted and she felt chilled, but she did not complain out right. She was moving through the lionesses gathered, barely giving Giru a glance. She wasn't extremely close to them, just searching for her sister. It was extremely unnerving how everything could be perfectly fine one minute... and then completely insane the next. Lions were suddenly shouting and yelling, lizards and other small creatures were racing about and she heard more than one yell out for them to run... but run where? Sauda's eyes were wide and scared because as she turned this way and that she had no time to actually get out of the way, the ground crumbling beneath her and she screamed as she was dragged through the air like a rag doll, she was sure she felt her body smash against more than one rock.

And then she was laying on the ground, her body thrumming with pain but it was still dull... still unexamined and she was sure it would get worse the moment she accepted it. She groaned as she started to slowly move, ringing between her ears. She needed.... to see who was alright. She needed... to keep avoiding thinking anything about what the hell had just happened.

Everything had happened so fast, there was no time for Giruvegan to react. He was suddenly in the ground, and knocked out so fast that there was nothing he could do. If he was conscious, he could have only hoped he helped to break the fall of those around him, even at the cost of his own safety.

Umutsuz felt herself fall to the ground, the yelps and hollers of startled lions distracting her as her belly slammed into the wet ground. She was able to somewhat gather her wits around her, but her ears were swiveling around her head again, knowing that she was hearing odd, far off sounds that were at a different pitch than the startled cries and moans all around her. Whatever the hell was happening, it wasn't done yet. Curse this blasted rain for making everything so much harder in this damn crisis!

It seemed they were all in agreement, then. Faust turned to face the majority of the pride as Umkhombo called out to them, indicating they should start to walk. Ahlaq started to say something, but the other Umholi was cut off as the ground suddenly began to shake. Faust watched with wide eyes as the other lion fell into a crack that had opened up beneath his paws before he was thrown from his own, landing flat on his belly as the world continued to rumble. He was completely silent as screams and roars of surprise and pain filled the air along with the rumbling, fear gripping his vocal chords as he remained frozen to the spot. Finally the shaking slowly ceased, tapering off until everything was back to normal.

Well. Besides the massive crack in the ground that quite a few lions had been swallowed up by. Getting cautiously to his paws, Faust's limbs were trembling from the scare and he searched for Khombo, hoping the other Umholi didn't suffer the same fate as Ahlaq. Even though he could still see their third companion falling like that couldn't have felt very nice.

"Are you all right, Ahlaq?" he asked as he searched.

Ukufana was waiting for a reply but she never got one. Instead the ground began to shake and shudder. Khapha instantly took to the skies, circling higher and higher as the ground suddenly opened beneath those gathered around the pair of siblings. Ukufana gave a startled shriek and tried to bound away, but the dirt melted under her paws and down she tumbled with the rest of the lions. She managed to move just early enough so she didn't fall right away, leaving her piled on top of the lionesses and the winged Inselelo. She wasn't hurt, but judging by the noise beneath her and the lack of movement others had been.

"What...oh no..." she groaned, trying to pull her tail out from under Cerobi.

Above her, Khapha continued to circle, watching the scene unfold below. She could feel the vibrations starting to settle even way up here but she wasn't going to be landing any time soon if she could help it. Wheeling a bit higher, she cast a watchful eye over the herds a few miles out. They had felt the shaking ground as well, it seemed. Hopefully they wouldn't stampede.

That- What- !!!!

One second she'd been making unflattering faces at a lizard, and the Abaholi called for everyone to move out, and the next the earth came violently alive. Uheshe fell, and then she fell when a fissure opened up in the ground. She tumbled in head first, and then everything went dark.

-----

As the lizard went on its mucky way, Nobuthongo looked back to the imbiza and her pouch, quietly hopeful that maybe, just maybe she might have something that could help with the itchiness that had plagued him since he'd fallen into that gross excuse for water. Not only was it damned uncomfortable, he could swear that every time he scratched at any of the itchy spots, a little bit of fur came away. He didn't have any real bald patches yet, but there were some...patchy patches. Even thinking about it made him want to scratch, but just as he turned just so to scritch at his mane, the earth jerked underneath him.

The sandy male was pitched to the ground, and before he could even process any part of what was happening, the earth opened up and he fell - not a long drop, but sudden one all the same, and he was left gasping as the wind was knocked out of him. After what seemed like an eternity, the shaking stopped, and he found just enough breath for words, and enough strength in his limbs to right himself. "Emeka?! Are you alright?"

oo DeD

Well. So much for getting a move on before anything happened. If he'd had a chance to, Umkhombo might have had something to say about saying things like that, but the sudden jolt took the male right off his feet, and the subsequent shaking kept him frustratingly helpless on the ground as the earth split and swallowed up more than a few pride members. As soon as the tremors stopped, he lurched to his feet and staggered towards the crack in the earth. Faust was up, but Ahlaq was down there, and his sister, and-

His head jerked up as he heard a distinct rumbling, and felt a very different sort of shaking...

s**t.

"Everyone, get down there! Now!"
