Urvakan had meant just to pass by. The canyons had a blistering heat to him he did not like and burnt his skin, so he had taken to sulking about at night with other nocturnal creatures. Like a white ghost floating on the winds.
But a commotion had drawn his attention. A group of lions, looking for something? Ahh, some sort of leader figure and his band. Then, the scent of fresh blood greeted his senses. Concerned, he began searching with the group, wondering if something terrible had happened. For these rugged lions to be out on a search, with blood in the air, it must have been something serious. If he could be of any help, he would offer his paw. Even if he had to brave the daytime sun.
A bird seemed to be in a panic about something, so Urvakan watched it flap around from a distance. Perhaps the creature had seen something important from it's aerial view? |

Vilh's eyes widened slightly at the sight of the blood - there was so much of it! - before the big male choked back his shock. He couldn't be alarmed, couldn't show that much weakness. "Don't look good, does it?" He offered instead, serious despite the lighthearted words. "Stay on it. I'll be back." How would it look, fearsome Warborn warrior going queasy at the sight of blood? Golka would have his head. There were the new folk around to consider, too. And then...
The guard turned, eyes narrowed to blue slits as he sought out Ro'kuna. His brow furrowed heavily as he found her, just as he feared. If he was in no position to show weakness, then she most certainly wasn't. He trotted back through the searchers, bee-lining for her, for all he tried to play it off. Some of the Vita got nods of encouragement along his way. Others earned scowls.
As he passed, he was just in time to hear their most interesting visitor's question. He faced her frustration with a flick of his mane and an wry smile. "Warchief has gone missing, my Lady - our fearless leader, y' might say. Thank you for taking the time to help us hunt him." He thought he was dangerous while grumpy; he'd hate to see what one of her kind could get up in a bad mood. All he knew about gods came from stories and tales, but all of them warned that the winged lions were capricious. He just never would have dreamed they would be so much so as to just...land among them, without knowing why, and begin scrounging in the sands.

Heavy pawprints were the least of his worries. He barely recognized some of the fur scraps, but the fact that he recognized them at all was what set off the alarms in his head. This wasn't just a scrap, there had to be bodies somewhere close by.
A glance went over to the rest of the pride...as well as those who seemed to be helping them. Ugh, just what they needed...But if all went well, he was sure there would be time to weed out the useless. But only if things went...well.

No sooner had she been calmed by her sister and started onwards again did she catch the sight of the pawprints. Garok was a heavy male, and the thought of them being his prints set her heart racing. It was a sign of hope, and urged her onwards.
Then came the chunks of flesh and the ever-rising smell and feel of death. Destruction. Battle. Loss. Despair.
The flesh...Some of it she recognized, some of it was strange. Some fur looked familiar, some didn't. It was all turning out to be too much, an Ro'kuna, once ahead of the group in her haste fueled by hope, had once again slowed to a standstill.
