And then everything went to hell. He should have known that this wouldn't go as smoothly as he'd hoped.

It hadn't even been a few seconds past making that comment before the ground suddenly shifted beneath him and with an undignified yelp, the white lion went tumbling downwards. He didn't even have time to react, bar closing his eyes and bracing himself.

With an "Oomph!" Kione landed in a heap among the dirt and plants, his vision obscured by dust and his tail smooshed beneath his foot. The fall had made him wince, but, after a cursory check over himself, it didn't seem like he was otherwise hurt. Except for his pride, maybe.

Coughing, the male squinted up through the falling dirt to try and see how far he had fallen - and came to the sinking conclusion that that was a deep drop.

With a dead pan look over his face, Kione sighed. Of course.

It was all going to end up not going well, was it? But she never thought it would be going this bad.

All that she wanted to do was celebrate, maybe make friends, maybe find someone who she could talk to at length eventually. It was going better, she thought, having ended up being the one to start the swarm of congratulations,
and she even managed to...maybe soothe Nche. Worried for him, she made a note to go and check on him. Well, when they were done.

It wasn't a conscious choice to follow the birds, she simply followed the first tail she set her eyes on- Kione's- and up until he fell, that's who she followed from a distance.

"Ah!" Was the only thing she said before hurrying to the edge of the pit, crouching down and pinning her ears against her head in fear. "Ah...Y-you alright...?"

"If they're the carrion birds they look like, something might have chased them off their--" Kemmasi didn't get a chance to continue his matter-of-fact reply, cutting it off with a startled noise as Kione abruptly fell into a pit! Scanning the hole, he frowned. They'd need to offer the fallen lion some kind of way to climb out, since it didn't look like one easily escaped unassisted. Spotting a fallen branch of decent size nearby, he padded over and started tugging it towards the pit. It would be easier to climb wood and bark than soil and stone. Physical labor was not his forte, but the endless (and sometimes surprisingly strenuous) work of putting the catacombs to rights had hardened his body somewhat.

Mgbamizu ears flickered at a sound. It was quiet, maybe not from a lion? maybe it was a hare or something? Thoughts of what the creature could have been scrambling ahead flew through his head, before a tree was falling before them. His golden eyes widened as he himself scampered back, to avoid being crushed.

With the path now blocked, Mgbamizu sighed. No one said this would be an easy journey.

"I don't know." Mgbamizu observed the options. Clearing was the only way. "Let's try to move...oh, you got the idea already." The Aguu said sheepishly as Zuko moved some branches. This would take a while. How much time could the lions spare?

Zuko nodded slightly as Mgbamizu spoke, already on the same page as the other lion. A noise behind him caught their attention and he paused for a moment, squinting in the direction the other lions had gone. He couldn't see then anymore but perhaps it was because they had gone behind a large boulder or around a turn. Not terribly concerned, he returned to the task at hand.

"Hopefully it was just loose in the dirt," he muttered, his eyes watching around them for any possible saboteurs. The last thing they needed was someone out here trying to cause disasters at every turn.

The fallen tree caused a deep frown between his brows. The world really seemed to be against the search crew. Although he had spoken very little during this endeavour the silver male moved forward and started to help the others clear the debris. He wanted to get down this slope all the faster, all of this shifting would not be good for anyone. He feared someone else might get stuck.

"Are things not looking so much like a coincidence now for you, Zuko?" The lion smirked, shaking his head as another branch was moved to the side. The brush was thinning out. A few more branches and rocks moved to the side and then they would be ready to start traveling again.

"What else could it have been?" He tried to draw out the thoughts from the darker lion, watching Uru remove some of the debris. He nodded his head towards the silver lion. Poor guy he thought to himself. He was going through the ringer, wasn't he.

For once, it wasn't Nyarai taking a drastic tumble down the mountain. Afya's heart seized with panic as she saw the pale male suddenly slide down the mountainside. The ground had given way underneath him, something they couldn't have entirely predicted. If he hadn't been in the lead, it was likely that any one of them would have fallen. The dark lioness leaned over the edge of the path, hoping and praying that Kione hadn't fallen too far. This was a rescue mission, they weren't supposed to be adding more bodies to the potential count.

Thankfully, Kione hadn't managed to fall far, though it was clear he was going to struggle getting out of there. "Nyarai, stay back," she ordered the pale lioness. This was going to be tricky getting him out of there without falling in themselves."You and Sadiki try to find a solid branch or something to help us reach him." It was a steep fall, but he seemed uninjured and if they had a little luck on their side, they'd be able to pull him up and out of there.

Afya maneuvered herself to what she could determine would be the most shallow path for Kione to climb out of there. She looked over her back and to Kemmasi, though for the life of her she couldn't remember his name at the moment. Usually she was pretty good with them, but even her knowledge had its limits. "Hey, can you watch my back and make sure I don't slip?" Before really waiting to even hear his answer, she carefully leaned over the edge of the path, extending an arm down to see if she could try and reach Kione. If he made it up a little ways, she might be able to grab him and help pull him up.

Kione gave a queer glance up at the noise above him. Well, he had been saying that if something were to happen, he would prefer to have someone else there to help. Though he sort of regretted that thought now. He was fine. Stuck and really dirty, but fine. It sounded like he had given all of them a heart attack. He should probably be touched over that, but mostly he just felt annoyed.

The not-so-white-anymore lion snorted and rolled his eyes as he heard Afya take charge, completely unsurprised about that. At least she had set Nyarai and Sadiki into doing something useful. Otherwise the two of them would likely have continued freaking out.

He eyed her for a moment as he saw her attempt to lean into the hole, "This feels like a bad idea." He sighed, "But fine."

Lifting himself back up, he stretched his paw up towards her outstretched arm, leaning against the wall in an attempt to keep himself upright. Lions weren't really made for standing on two legs, after all. He wasn't quite able to reach from where he was, so he tried shuffling himself a bit higher up the dirt wall, his claws digging into whatever footholds he could find. At this point, he was able to tap his toe pads against hers.

Zuko fought hard not to roll his eyes at his companion, instead snorting in 'mirth'. "Still a coincidence," he said, standing firm by what he had said earlier. "Even if the new Onyeisi isn't favored by all of the pride, he succeeded in his trials and is most fit to rule. If the heavens didn't want him to succeed, they would have made sure Death took him within the caves."

Shoving at the branches a bit more, he managed to move enough to reach a deeper spot. "Perhaps these are all omens of things to come for those who think he is unfit or don't agree with his progressive standpoint." While Zuko leaned towards the more traditional ideals himself, he was always of the mindset that if someone could prove him wrong, he would admit defeat and take their stance.

"Heh. I like the way you think there, Zuko." Mgbamizu said, in regards to the omens being because of those opposing the Onyeisi. Though, not many seemed to actually oppose Itiri, moreso his actions regarding brining in the rogue. The blinding of the adolescent was merely something the N'ezi had always done. It was known not to enter the catacombs unless you were an Amoosu.

Mgbamizu nodded his head in a short greeting to Juu, not realizing she had come up either. A few more branches to go, they could do this.

Zuko didn't reply, too focused on shoving things out of the way. A few more lions had joined them by this point - Juu and Uru - and progress was being made slowly but steadily. He paused to glance over his shoulder to try to spot the other group but they were still out of sight.

"Where did everyone else end up?" he wondered aloud as he shoved a few rocks out of the way that had been moved by the falling tree.
