There was a blur, a thud, and a large plume of sand as something crashed into the beach next to the two men as they introduced themselves. It settled a few seconds later, revealing a tall man laying face down in a sand crater. He laid there motionless for a moment before quickly hopping up, sifting through the sand desperately. A second later he pulled a camera out of the sand and let out a sigh of relief after inspection. "Phew. That could've been bad, haha."
Kent stood up to his full height of 6'2" and started brushing the sand out of his dyed blond hair and adjusting his black glasses before he noticed the two men he had landed right next too. "Oh... Hey there- er, alola! Sorry about that, was taking a few photos of some Wingull and those small black and red bird Pokemon when I lost my grip and fell. Hope I didn't startle you guys! The name's Kent. Did I hear you mention the Trial Challenge? Second time I've heard of that now."

"You too, Frederick." Hayes smiled, but made a mental note to himself to try and remember the arm waving that's supposed to accompany the "alola" as he watched the man introduce himself. "Oh, more or less." He nodded as he answered the first question, but before he could inquire about the challenge... a man dropped onto the beach beside them. It wasn't apparent what had happened at first, but after the sand had fallen away and left him visible in a small crater, it wasn't too hard to figure out on his own. A moment passed and suddenly he was back up, dusting himself off and introducing himself to the two of them while Hayes glanced up to see where he fell from.
"Ahaha... you didn't land on either of us, or your camera, so it all worked out? I guess?" Hayes stifled a bit of laughter as he listened to the man's explanation and introduction, but then he mentioned the challenge as well; thankfully it didn't look like he was the only one who didn't know what it was. "Ah, I'm Hayes, and I was just about to ask Frederick here about it... it keeps on coming up, but I have no idea what it is?" He shrugged his shoulders a bit at the end before turning back to the only person who knew what it was, and stepped back a bit to include the newly met Kent.

The Pokemon Trainer that Freddy had just met named Hayes had expressed interest in the Trial Challenge, it had seemed he was about to explain further, only for their conversation to be interrupted by a falling man, as conversations often do. The man dusted the sand from his hair and adjusted his glasses. Introducing himself as Kent, he followed with an alola. Freddy smiled and returned with a cheeful Alola. It seemed that his journey was already attracting quite the characters and he'd only just stepped out from the door.
"Pleasure. The names Chaucer, Frederick Chaucer. I hope the shots were worth the fall" Freddy declared. Kent followed up with intrigue about the Trial Challenge. Freddy began to wonder if these two were Alolan Native, or maybe they had been shipped off to a boarding school if Hoenn or Sinnoh. "It's a rite of passage for all Alolans. It's a set of trials that take place across all of Alola. Each trial is run by a Captain. There's more to it than that, but that's the general gist. Hold on. I have the amulet here." Freddy said, revealing an empty amulet from the front pocket of his shirt.

Kent continued to dislodge sand from various locations on his body while the two men spoke. In response to Hayes' comment about not landing on his camera or either of them he laughed and patted him on the back as he agreed. Frederick went on to explain what the whole island challenge thing here in Alola was. Kent crossed his arms and nodded as he took in the information about how there were trials and captains before holding up his trial amulet. The photographer perked an eyebrow. "Huh, they certainly do it differently here than in Johto. Can't say I'm too interested in battling. I just want to take pictures of all the rarest Pokemon and locations in the world!"

"Oh, that's interesting! I had no idea, there's nothing like that around home." Hayes said, having been listening to Freddy's explanation about the island challenge. "What's the amulet for, is it a sign you're doing it?" He asked, curious if it was anything like the badges in other regions, what with them being the closest thing he could compare it to. Kent mentioned it being different than in Johto too, and how he only wanted to take pictures, but Hayes hadn't had an idea of anything in specific he wanted to do in Alola yet and it sounded like an experience he wouldn't be able to get anywhere else.
"I wouldn't mind giving it a chance, knowing what it is now." He nodded, although he didn't have any idea on where to start... it was a good thing he'd introduced himself to a local, apparently. "Oh, or having a look at some of your pictures, if you didn't mind? I haven't seen much of Johto, honestly." Hayes added after a moment, interested anything he might have from the region; although he'd lived in Kanto for a while he'd never had an opportunity to see much of it's neighboring region... and if Kent had any other pictures of different regions, he'd like to see them as well - it looked like he went the extra mile for a good photograph, after all.

Freddy held up his amulet, pointing to the currently empty sections. "I take it you guys aren't locals then? See. Each one of these compartments corresponds to one of the four islands here on Alola. Melemele, Akala, Ula'Ula and Poni. Once you've completed all the trials on an island, you are given the chance to battle our Grand Kahuna. They fill up a portion of this." Freddy explained, popping the amulet on his belt. "In fact, if you're looking for a good shot Kent, you'll have to take the trial. You can only get so far on each island before you're stopped by the barriers. They're mainly for your safety as without a Pokemon of a certain calibre, you'll only get hurt. Earning a Trial Stamp will get you further into the island y'dig?" Freddy explained further.
"Theres only one Trial before you meet the Grand Kahuna on Melemele. I'm just starting the trial myself so I can show you the way if you fancy?" Freddy asked. He wasn't usually this brazen, but the thought of his new journey inspired something within him.

Kent shook his head when Freddy asked if they were locals. It seemed like Freddy was, and him and Hayes were the odd men out here. Hayes had a look on his face that said 'good thing he met a local' and Kent couldn't help but agree. Both these guys seemed pretty cool, he got lucky falling out of that tree it seemed.
Freddy explained the Island Challenge in a bit more detail, and when he mentioned that parts of the island were restricted to only challenge goers, he dramatically clenched his fist in front of himself. "Then I guess I'll have to take on this Island Challenge too! No one keeps Kenneth Briar away from the shots!" He declared. After the explanation even Hayes mentioned an interest in the island challenge, and Kent's photos. Kent's face lit up and he instantly pulled out his camera. "Of course I can show you some! You guys mind if we head to the Pokemon Center up on the hill? It's pretty hot out here."
"... And these are the Whirl Islands. There were these massive whirlpools, nearly drowned trying to get across them." Kent said, having shown the two some of his favorite pictures of his home region. "I'm telling you though, that one photo was the Aurora Pokemon, Suicune! It was standing in front of me as clear as day." Continued, referring to a picture he showed them earlier of a blue and purple blur.

Like Kent, Hayes shook his head when asked if he was a local. It was a nice surprise that he'd run into another tourist, too, because as nice as it was to have a bit of a guide in a local, another out-of-towner meant he wasn't the only person who didn't know what the region had in store for him. While Freddy explained the function of the amulet Hayes simply nodded along and listened, and then agreed to the offer of him showing them the way (and moreso Kent suggesting the Pokemon Center, so he could pick up his other Pokemon) while Kent took the time to show them what pictures he'd taken back home.
"Oh, these are crazy..." Hayes said after another picture of the Whirl Islands, surprised by the size of their namesake. "I'd heard about the whirlpools, but it's different actually looking at them... and how'd you even get across? Sheesh." He continued, thinking he was right about Kent and the lengths he'd go to get a good picture, although they weren't all as well done as those ones. "And... are you sure? I mean, I guess I've never seen it before, but I don't know." Hayes asked after he'd brought up the blurry pictures again, although he didn't want to sound too skeptical; he didn't know a whole lot about the Pokemon, and there were a lot of fantastic pictures, but it definitely wasn't as clear as day in the picture.

Feeling kind of pumped from that trainer battle, Eline continued her search with a newfound skip in her step. She wasn't entirely frolicking through the tall grass, but she was indeed more energetic. 'Who knew battling another human could make our trainer so chipper.' Lithium commented, offering a grin towards the white-haired female. Eline turned with smile of her own, nodding her head a few times. "Yea. It was fun, and we won. Why wouldn't I be 'chipper'." Eline retorted, holding up a finger for each point she made. Turning around, Eline dashed ahead, coming up to a cliff-side to look down to the sea below. A wide open cave rested down below, almost beckoning Eline to go to it. There was much of Melemele Island that she hadn't seen. Most... rather all of her trips to the island had been to Hau'oli City. Even when she'd worked for Team Aether, she was usually on Akala island. Now that she was free to explore to her hearts content, she wanted to go everywhere!

Looking out towards the sea, Eline caught sight of what looked to be some Corsola standing on a large rock, it was lowtide so likely they'd simply come up for some fresh air before retreating back underwater. There was a Pokemon, Mareanie, that torment the poor Corsola. Eline wasn't entirely a fan of Poison-type Pokemon, or Mareanie for that matter, but there was something that told her having one on her team wouldn't be entirely that bad. Plus, Darnel would praise her for 'Stepping out of the box'. Not that she needed his praise, mind you. Turning back towards her group, she gave a stout nod. "We're going to head to Iki town now, then go to the Melemele Meadow." She instructed. If felt good having a course set for them. No one objected, following along side Eline on their way onward to Iki Town.

Eline had decided before even getting off the boat on Route one's shore, that she wanted to go counter-clockwise around the island, making Hau'oli City her last stop. If she was going to take on the Alola League,she'd have to do a bit of training, and really get used to battling with her team. She'd never been one for battling when she was a researcher. Taking her time by traveling around the island would be a good idea to get in some training. Not to mention her secondary goal of completing the Aloladex. That, she knew was going to keep her busy. Each island held a variety of Pokemon she could encounter. Melemele was likely going to be one of the hardest. She'd also given some thought to keeping some of the Pokemon she catches on her team, until they evolved, then releasing them, but that somehow seemed... sad to her. Training that long, well... they might not even be close to where she'd originally caught the Pokemon, and after returning after how many days? Would they be treated the same? No, she was content on finding evolved forms and catching those instead. She didn't plan on keeping a Pokemon longer that she had to. Iki town wasn't to far away now. Large totem's outlined either side of a large staircase that would lead up to the town. However, it seemed they're advancement wasn't going to be at that moment. After all, there was still a core somewhere in the area. Luckily, where her invention failed, Nobelium stepped in. Rather, hopped. 'Eline.' He voiced, then leaped down from Eline's shoulder. 'My brethren is near.' He voiced. Eline nodded her head. Further ahead, there stood a tall person, from behind Eline could tell, right away who it was, since she'd seen this person several times in her past, and she wasn't happy about it either. As if they knew she was approaching, the human turned with a foxy grin. "Hello, Eline! I've been expecting you." They voiced. Eline stopped, glaring at the person before her. She noticed something tucked under his arm, a cube-like object that flashed green every so often. It looked Zygarde related, and she knew that couldn't be good. "Ruth." She replied with a harshness in her tone. Lithium looked between her trainer and the person ahead of them. Ruth sounded feminine to her, but this human... well she just couldn't tell. Was it male, or was it female? Ruth themselves, hoisted up the strange cube he had, waving it from side to side with a taunting look on his face. "Now is that anyway to greet an old colleague? And after I came all this way with a present." They replied, holding the cube back down under their arm. "Look it that, you've managed to find a core already? Well, you won't be able to use it until you have this cube." They sneered. "And now I'm feeling like maybe you don't deserve this, so I'll use it ins-" Suddenly, like a blessing form the blue, a Swoobat flew straight through some trees and slammed into the back of Ruth's head. The bat spiraled to the ground, landing rather harshly on their back, the cube itself went flying through the air, tumbling a few feet before finally resting near Eline's feet. Fluorine swooped down and picked up the cube, returning it to Eline. 'Ugg, that thing is heavy.' Fluorine commented. "It kind of is, but it's nothing I can't carry. Could you go check on that Pokemon, Fluorine?" Eline inquired. "Urg... Now who the hell?" Ruth snarled, sitting up and adjusting their tie. "They'll pay for hitting me." The bat, unable to answer was well hidden in the tall grass, leaving Ruth to simply look around with an angry expression. "I saw." Eline spoke up. "Some kids tossed a big ball at you, they went that way." She pointed down Route one towards Hau'oli City. "They must be from the school." She added. "Better go catch them before the evidence that they were gone is gone itself." She replied. "Thanks for the gift by the way." Holding up the cube, Ruth's eyes narrowed. He was stuck between trying to get the cube away, or dealing with some ingrate children. It didn't even accrue to the scientist that Eline was lying. Ruth was smart, perhaps one of the smartest, but when it came to hooligans, he was often gullible. In this case, the hooligans outweighed the cube, and he was gone. "I'll find you again, Eline, and when I do, be prepared!"
Watching Ruth disappear down Route one, a grin danced into place on her face. "Like a charm." She beamed. Looking over towards where the Swoobat had landed, Eline walked over, finding it was still knocked out. 'It's not waking up, Eline.' Fluorine pointed out. Eline nodded. "Let's carry it up to Iki Town, they don't have a Pokemon Center, but I'm sure someone can watch over it until it wakes up." 'Don't forget about my bretheren.' Nobelium called out. All eyes turned to see Nobelium hopping over with another core, this one with a blue hexagon on it's belly. It stopped upon seeing the cube, then turned to Nobelium, it said something, in a language Eline didn't know. Nobelium nodded, and the cube in Eline's hands activated.
After a few moments passed, the normal core disappeared, and Nobelium began to glow. It wasn't like normal evolution, no, Eline was aware Zygarde couldn't 'evolve' like say, Sulfur or Titanium could. No, this was more like... a change in appearance rather than evolution. After the glowing had stopped, and the cube died down, a 1o% Zygarde stood before the group, mirroring Nobelium's colours. "Wooooaaaah!" The cube fell from Eline's lap as she half-stumbled/half-ran over to Nobelium. "Seeing that in a not perilous situation was twice as cool!" She exclaimed. 'Yes. If we continue to find more of my brethren, I can do it again.' Stepping forward, Nobelium crossed over to the knocked out Swoobat and sniffed it some. 'This one smells... familiar.' He spoke. Lithium knelled down, picking up the bat from the ground. 'Yes, she does... Come to think of it, you also smell familiar, Nobelium.' The Zygarde looked up at Lithium and nodded. 'Perhaps we ran into one another at one point in time?' He replied. 'It might be during the time we both can't remember?' Lithium pondered. 'Well, we can think upon this later. For now let us get this one looked at.' Eline nodded in agreement, picking the cube back up after she deposited her invention into her bag. The group then headed up the stairs to Iki Town.

Adder’s plan was pretty simple—he was going to fill the pokedex. He didn’t plan to stash hordes upon hordes of pokemon in the PC or anything; for the most part, he would be doing catch and release. He would be doing that a lot, too, so that he could get more data both for himself, and for the professors. He always assumed most of the information they had on pokemon was based on averages of those that were caught by trainers everywhere, so… the more that were caught, the more data they could pull from, right? He would try and take notes in his notebook, too, in case anything phenomenal happened… but he also wanted to train his pokemon up. Ultimately, he would want to battle people, too, but to do that, he needed to make sure he was going to win. And to do that… Yeah. Training.
He climbed up the ledge, dodging the grass for the time being, to head towards town, though he paused when he noticed a… donation box? He looked at it – stared, really – and then glanced up when he saw some people passing by. And dropping items in. It was just… a box. An open box. And people were putting items in it? He looked around. It… didn’t even look like there were any people protecting it to make sure no one stole from it….

Adder bunkered down, trying to stay mostly out of sight, but not so much that if someone did see him, they would be suspicious. He crouched down, looking at the box, then glancing around, trying to appear casual and… honestly failing quite a bit. He could spot people dropping things into the box here and there… They were lucky Team Skull wasn’t around to just grab the whole thing and cart it off. Honestly, though, this was almost suspicious in of itself. Was this like... a test or something? He narrowed his eyes, squinting at the target box, but turned his head when he felt a tug at his vest. Pan was standing there, evidently staring at him.
”What?” he muttered, almost defensively. He wasn’t stealing anything.
… Yet.
That wasn’t what she was nagging him about, apparently, though. She instead pointed at the three pokeballs he’d just picked up, and he looked down at them, frowning a bit. ”Oh…. Yeah, guess we should probably train,” he muttered. She stared at him for a long moment. ”…. Mun,” she muttered flatly. He couldn’t really tell what she was trying to say on that, but he didn’t really care, either. Apparently, neither did she, because she just went back to snacking as he stood up, and walked back towards the tall grass. There were a few areas to train here… he tried to figure out the best place to go so he could still kinda… keep an eye on that… box. If that meant he was a little distracted then, well…. So be it.

Making his way to the tall grass, Adder pulled out his ‘starter’s pokeball, tossing it in the air a few times as he looked for another pokemon. He glanced down as Pan suddenly leaped up, flinching away when she smacked at his bag. ”Pan, what--!?” he started irritably, but stopped, frowning when he noticed she had two objects in her hands—a lighter, and an incense.
