Personally, I think the first one looks a lot cleaner than the second one. I feel like the second one is too busy with two 2" triangles per area. Have you tried one 2" triangle per area?

The first one except I like the two stars in each section of the outer area of the second one.

I'm leaning toward the first, but what's the application? I think that will really be a deciding factor. Without any knowledge of intended use you could go with either one. And can we see them without the grid?

My partner's genetically Jewish and though his whole family is athiest, they chose to sometimes celebrate Hanukkah and other times celebrate Christmas. I got invited, so I wanted to make something special.

Though, since the total size of the quilt would be four feet in its largest dimension, it might feel less busy, but that wouldn't be guaranteed. I should probably at least stick with the first one in an initial run cuz I might not have the skill necessary for the second. Thanks!
