"So in theory my memory will come back? Just out of the blue, just like that?" There was a hopeful tone in Lance's voice now. "How long does it normally take? Am I going to just be wandering around in the dark for a few days or a few weeks or what?"

"It varies depending on the individual. Some take weeks, others months." Meg answered, feeling a little guilty for saying so when he was clearly so hopeful, yet feeling nonetheless that he deserved the truth of his supposed condition.

Lance lowered his eyes, looking rather like a sad puppy before looking back up at Meg. "Is it really okay for me to stay here that long, maybe even longer?"

"I don't see why not. If there any problems, we'll work with 'em as we get to 'em." Meg reassured Lance with a cheerful grin, smiling the largest she probably ever had in his presence. The weeks that followed were pleasant enough, with Meg keeping Lance's company whenever she wasn't burdened by work or duty. Sometimes she would get calls or house visits from debt collectors, so she had advised Lance to never answer the phone or door unless he absolutely knew for certain that it was her. Unfortunately, things could not go well forever - nor could she avoid the extreme measures her debt collectors would take to get their coin. The odd sound of metal scratching at metal resounded through the apartment, along with the strange jingling of a lock. Meg groaned, rolling somewhat on the couch as she slept. It became clear in Lance's weeks of living at her place that Meg did not have a bed, nor a proper bedroom - instead opting to use the spare room as an office of sorts. Since she slept in the equivalent to a living room, near the entrance, it was only natural that the sound of someone picking her locks would be heard - but she was exhausted, her sleep heavier than it should have been.

In the weeks following, it had become quite apparent that his memory wasn't the only thing Lance was missing. He seemed to have only a bare grasp on proper etiquette, holding his fork with his whole hand like one would hold a sword and almost shoveling food into his mouth. He also seemed fascinated by the most mundane things, actually getting startled by things like Meg's alarm clock or the microwave going off, and about the only tv show he wasn't amused by was whatever flavor of news program might have been on. His knowledge seemed excessively basic and almost childish at times, only really acting his age in the way he spoke and held himself. Of course, no one could say he might react in a more perilous situation. Lance had already sat up in his futon next to the couch when the metal scratching sound started, as though some bad gut feeling told him things were going to go bad soon. "Meg...Hey, Meg!" he hissed as he shook Meg. He wasn't allowed to answer the door, and had no idea what to do right now. "I think someone's trying to get in!"

Meg layed still for several moments, at least, until Lamce's words finally registered within her mind. She shot upwards in a near instant, a look of fear taking over her once stoic features. Without hesitation she tiptoed towards one of the few cabinets she had, returning only when she had a shotgun in hand. "We need to hide, Lance. My office might be a good bet." she whispered to the man, fidgeting about in worry. Who knew when the robber, or more likely violent debt collector, would finish?

Lance looked mildly terrified that she had a shotgun on standby and quickly nodded. He was about to follow when he had another idea. "You hide, I'm gonna find the phone and call the cops. Probably should build up some kind of wall to give you a little protection." He had no way to protect himself, but he knew the man should've been the one taking the risks in this situation. Besides, that's how it seemed to be on tv.

"Lance. The cops will not help us. They don't come to calls from this shitty neighborhood, and even if they did, they would do more harm than good." Meg hissed in frustration, becoming antsier by the minute.

It didn't click in his head, but he heard the lock turn. "Just hide!" Lance hissed and pushed her into her office, closing the door on her before she could protest. He had no idea what he was doing at this point. Currently his only plan was to try to hold the door shut, maybe bar it with a chair, and hope they'd give up and that they weren't packing too much heat.

Meg was about to protest until Lance did what he did. She was worried for him, but ultimately she came first - so she went on to hide in her closet and hope for the best.

{Sorry for blegh post}

It wasn't long until the door creaked open, letting in two gruff men clad in black. One had a baseball bat he was quite clearly itching to use, whereas the other carried a garbage bag. As 'debt collectors', Meg would normally have two options in dealing with them - let them take as they pleased and hope it would suffice, or be taken herself and her body used however their employers saw fit until she 'payed off' her debts. The holder of the bat looked at Lance with confusion at first, but soon put on a more intimidating face. "Who the ******** you supposed to be?"

"Just a friend who's staying with Meg for a while..." Lance tried not to let his voice shake too much before swallowing nervously. Holding up his hands to show he didn't want to make more trouble than necessary, he took a few steps back to show he meant no harm, provided they didn't cause any harm first. "Look, we don't need to get violent here, right...?"

The man took a look around the place, and realizing that Meg had little to steal, decided that the occupants would have to suffice. "Ya picked a bad day to sleep over, kid." he said, taking a step towards Lance and readying his bat for a swing. He aimed for the male's head, hoping to either kill or knock out the unrelated party.

Almost as though a switch was flipped in his head, Lance's entire being changed. His expression was cold, confident, and ready to kill as he moved smoothly into a fighting stance, grabbing the end of the bat with one hand and forcing it into the man's face with his other, breaking his nose at the very least.

The man let out a cry of pain at Lance's actions, momentarily distracted. The man's partner pulled out a gun soon after, clearly intending on shooting the violent male as quickly as he could before he became a bigger issue than he already had been. Who was this man, and, why would that b***h have anything to do with him?!
