Well, actually, your avatar represents the amount of money you have, so, it does attract poor people.
Anyways, consider bumping outside of your quest thread, you're more likely to locate people who will donate to your quest if you spend time in the CIF (not asking for donations) than you are bumping your own thread. I do suggest posting in your thread when having a conversation, or if it starts to get too low on the page, but, this is one of the slower moving subforums, so you shouldn't be too worried about losing your thread here.
