((Hopefully things will pick up once the "plot" (read: Atius showdown and my twist for afterwards) picks up. *comfort huggle*))
"Thank whatever gods are left..." Van muttered with a sigh of relief when he saw the twins return, momentarily passing Anise off to Mala as he patted a space next to him on the rock he sat on for Larai to join him. He had a rather glum and apologetic expression on his face.

{I hope so too.}
Larai sighed softly and sat beside her father, avoiding looking at him as much as she could. It was clear by the look on her face that she was still ashamed of the arguement and embarassed from not wording things better in such a delicate situation. It was a poor attempt at comfort, she knew it.

"I'm sorry, I never meant to snap at you like that." Van said softly, tilting her head to rest upon his shoulder. "The stress is just getting to me, and hitting this dead didn't help. I'm used to having all the answers in the case of magical problems, but for once I'm clueless and that honestly scares me."

"I'm...I'msorryIspokesopoorly." Larai said, closing her eyes and keeping a nervous look about her as she rushed her words out - intentionally attempting to make her words inaudible.

"No need to apologize, it wasn't your fault." Van said giving her a kiss on the top of her head. "Just don't run off like that again, it makes me feel even worse." he half joked.

"Fine, fine...I won't for now." Larai said with a defeated look and soft sigh. She held a small smile afterwards, although it was forced. "But sometimes, it's just better to avoid an arguement if possible. That's all I was trying to do..."

"Larai, at this point I don't want an argument any more than you do, and in this case there wasn't even anything to argue about. I'm just a little high strung right now, and the last thing I need is thinking my daughter hates my guts." Van said with a faint smile.

"I understand. Though don't think I hate you - because I do not," Larai assured Van with a small smile.

"Good." Van gave her another quick kiss on the head before releasing her from the one-armed hug he'd had her in since she sat down. "Lets me sleep easier knowing that much. Speaking of which, we should probably get some shut eye. I don't have a single clue what to do next, but being sleep deprived probably won't help anything."
((You're very welcome. ^-^ ))

"Well, mom's funny-yet-serious-looking face has calmed down, so I'm guessing she either figured out something or she got distracted by another train of thought entirely." Larai said with a small chuckle at the distant look that held itself around Mala.

"Or she's just relieved that you're not being a handful like usual." Van teased as he looked over to Mala. "Something on your mind?"

"I have some theories, but not every piece of the puzzle fits. This just doesn't make any sense as to why I've still got my powers when so many other magical creatures are losing theirs. There has got to be something I'm missing, but I can't for the life of me think of what." Mala replied, frowning a little more.

"Theories are better than nothing, right? And the longer this keeps up, the more my brain hurts." Kai said. "Maybe it's got something to do with you drinking from the fountain back when it still had its magic?" he suggested, merely trying to be helpful.

{Wouldn't it be interesting if the only reason why Mala was immune to the lack of magic because centuries ago she took religious vows to become a priestess of Atius while Atius himself was too negligent in even this to check his commands and make sure the "loyal to the faith" were actually loyal?}
"Maybe, but I doubt it." Mala said with a soft sigh, giving up for the moment being.
