K'bet and Blue Rubiginth

K'bet had decided he was going to make the best of this. He was tired, he was bored, and he desperately wanted to wash off the stink of fish. How had Fisher done this every day?

Mine! Rubiginth's slender face drew comedically close to his rider's. Pull up the net!

K'bet drew himself from his daydream and did as he was told, smiling when he saw their meager addition to today's catch. "Mm. Good work, right?"

Wyllig and Blue Luteth

Wyllig stared in shock as they pulled in yet another net full of silverfish.

    "How are we doing this?"

Shhh! Don't acknowledge it or you'll ruin our luck!

"Since when do you believe in that kind of stuff? Here, help me get these over to the stockpile."

R'in and Bronze Demodeth

The only good thing that had come from R'in injuring his hand was that Demodeth had an excuse to visit with Alenciath. He didn't strictly need one, but he hadn't quite allowed himself that concession. Maybe visits would come easier once he had a weyr of his own where his business would be his.

    You're all right?

Yes, I'll be fine. I doubt could manage to cut myself like that twice in one month.

    Don't tempt fate.

    Hm.

They fished quietly for most of the day, the bronze watching carefully every time his rider reeled something in. R'in appreciated the concern.

Although it had been a largely disappointing fishing shift, R'bin kept at it, checking the nets and dumping whatever was caught in them into a smelly bucket. Huarangith was playing the role of a small boat for this adventure, paddling through the water while R'bin perched on his back.

Are you sure I'm not scaring the fish away? Huarangith asked.

Could be,l R'bin replied. But the ones that are already in the net can't very well get away, can they? So it's not as if you're hurting our take.

Huarangith was mollified by his rider's assurance, and paddled to their next net, which R'bin could tell at once had been well-placed. It was heavy and thrashing as he pulled it from the water, full of yellowfins. That would be tasty!

Take a look at that! he exclaimed.

Huarangith gave a pleased bugle as he waited for R'bin to empty the net and then replace it, treading water in a manner which absolutely terrified any fish in the area. Once R'bin was finished, the pair moved on to their next net, which was perhaps a quarter mile away. It, too, was full of fish, but these were redtails.

The pair returned to shore triumphant at the end of their shift.

Brenley

Once again, Bren had tried and failed to obtain a net and was left stuck with a pole. Even so, he caught a decent number of fish with said pole, and was feeling rather accomplished... until the wave. The candidate went flying into the water, dropping his line and knocking over all of the fish he'd caught that day.

    Sigh.

41-50: As you begin to reel in the net or line, you are overpowered by a strong wave, and your catch is set free. Shardit! That had been a good haul, too! Nonriders or riders without XP points, take -5 points.

Tsk. Honestly this was far too easy. And people made a craft of this? It had been three weeks now of this forced effort of tedium, and as D'mar casually hauled in yet another net stocked with flopping, shining silverfish, he had to wonder at that. Maybe he'd just been lucky, but the way he was feeling, he could have been a master at this craft by the time he was fifteen. Who struggled to outwit fish? Although... really, for their stink, even being a craft-master wouldn't be worth it. Ew.

1-10. You don't know exactly what happened, but somehow you have wound up tangled up in a fishing net, out in the middle of the ocean. You thrash around and try hard to free yourself, but all you wind up doing is breathing in the salt-water. Thankfully, you're fished out by your fellows, untangled from the net, and dragged back to shore. Outside of being a little traumatized, roll a D4 to see what the results of your poor fishing happened to be!

Your net was torn and will require some patching, using up some of the Weyr's supplies. Any fish that might have been caught in it are now free to swim another day, and you bring in nothing for the day. Outside of wounded pride, and wet clothes, you're fine to continue fishing another day. [-5 points]

If you are a rider with XP points, take your two highest stats. Change that number to negative. You now take that many extra negative points. (12+7=19)

Things had been going great... until G'ar slipped and fell overboard, and got tangled in the net. And Marasemeth dove in in a panic to try to save him. And then ALSO got tangled in the net, shredding it, and leaving them both shaking and traumatized (if technically unharmed, aside from the net itself) on the shore shortly thereafter. Suffice to say... it was a bad day for rider and dragon.

61-70: You're fishing with a pole today, standing on the small floating dock.
You see the bobber go under, and pull up hard. Sure enough, there's a whopper at the end of the line. It's a fight, and you can tell you've snagged the largest packtail you've ever seen. Unfortunately you yank too hard and the line snaps. Not only is your pole now useless, but the big one gets away.
Worse, your fishing luck the rest of the sevenday seems to follow suit... You wind up with a whole lot of nothin'. -10 points

Ah... damn. L'an regarded the snapped line with dull disfavor, one corner of his mouth crinkling up in irritation. That was bad luck if he'd ever seen it... and sure enough, the rest of the week was horrible luck for him. He didn't go over the edge into the drink again, and he did bring in a few fish along the way, but it was next to nothing, especially for one who did as much fishing as he'd done.

Once again Nasath's bulk and strength came into play... though really any dragon would be strong enough compared to A'iel. Nasath made it an unfair contest when a big wave came crashing in, the bronze simply sweeping it aside with a slap of his tail to keep it from bowling his rider over as he slowly (sooo slowly, come ON A'iel) dragged a net full of packtails in to the shore. Well, at least they were tasty...!

Another week, another wave. This time when Jacquol found herself floating on her back, spluttering and spitting water, the net dragged half open and the fish all escaped... she just let it happen. She was a pirate, shardit, not some finsherman! This... was NOT fun!
