The battle was far from effortless, but in the end, Mel and her pokemon came out victorious. Honestly, she felt a bit like she had gotten something of a workout herself through that battle, but that didn't mean she wasn't still completely ready for her own personal battle with Lala. Far from it, in fact-- the adrenaline rush, the performance of the pokemon, the strategy and reactivity of everything... it got her blood pumping. She was more than ready for her sparring match with Lala. Jogging out, she sent him a quick message (completely forgetting he couldn't read it himself) to check where he was, and headed to the pokecenter to heal her pokemon up. She'd grab herself (and Lala) some water bottles while waiting for a response, and make sure her pokemon were up to par, before going off to start her own match. Honestly, she was pretty pumped for it, now.

Lafayette and Noah had taken to wandering about Lumiose City while Mel went off for her gym challenge. The Aussie’s intention had originally to scope out a good place for a good spar, but it quickly dawned on him that this city was very… touristy. There were cafes for days, boutiques, office buildings, restaurants, a detective’s agency (he avoided that one) and some seedy looking alleyways that he could’ve gone down, but decided not too.
Honestly? A place to have their competition that was within the city limits didn’t seem likely and well, Lafayette couldn’t consult a map. Cheri was stored away, after having utterly betrayed him in regards to allowing Z just get kidnapped by a child (a note that he carried in the back of his mind as something he needed to rectify) and Noah, bless his soul, wasn’t exactly a mind reader nor able to communicate with his trainer that easily.
There was no luck on that though and the pair resigned to the fact that they would probably have to take it outside the city. Oh well, fair enough; Lafayette didn’t want brown nosers trying to stop them anyways. They’d stopped at the galette stand because, well, eating was always good and while in the middle of a bite, the Aussie felt his communicator go off on his wrist. Curious, he rolled it over and took a look. There was one of those text messages from… well, he didn’t know who from. He couldn’t quite read the name (like it mattered).
Maybe it was Mel? He considered letting Cheri out briefly to figure out but relented; she was going to stew in that pokeball of hers until she died he had a suitable punishment for her. So he went with the next best option. Swallowing his mouth full of pastry, he punched the “Dial” button on the communicator, listening as it rang. Whoever it was was going to either pick up or get a voicemail. Whatever was easier!

Mel was drinking her water when her communicator went off, and nearly spilled some down the front of her shirt as she pulled it away, catching herself and quickly, clumsily pulling it out. Wiping some of the water from her chin, she answered, not even checking the ID. "Hello?" Oh... It was Lala. She smiled a bit, shifting her weight and capping her bottle to put it into her bag, and talked with the Aussie as she went to retrieve her pokemon, and discussed a place to meet up. As it turned out, there wasn't much opportunity here in the city, but maybe it would be best to side step to the outskirts all the same, to avoid making too much of a scene. Not that it would be that bad, she was sure; she had a lot of form to her fighting style, so it would probably be obvious they were just sparring! Or at least... that was what she thought.
She hung up once they decided on a meeting place, and got her things together, checking her communicator once more as she headed out. No response from Brian... and, well, she wasn't about to text him, either. She put the messeger away, and headed off to meet up with Lala, picking up a jog as she neared, and grinning once she spotted him, offering a wave. "'Lo, Lala. Ready to lose a 'blue'?" she teased, pulling out the water bottle she'd gotten him, and tossing it his way as she slowed.

Ah, the familiar sights and sounds of her favorite city in all of Kalos, Lumiose City. Upon entering her hometown, the Egyptian gazed over to her assistant. "Say, can we stop at the Pokemon Center real quick before heading to the agency?" Reina inquired, giving a cheeky smile to her very upset companion. "Why?" She replied sharply. Reina only continued to smile. "I need to speak with Nurse Joy about something pretty sensitive." Reina replied. "It concerns a Pokemon on my team. I want to get it checked out." Miss Assistant turned with narrowed eyes. "You better of not hurt anyone with your recklessness." She replied. "But fine. I'm going to head back, however. I need to get back to work. If you don't come back in one hour I'm going to hunt you down again and drag you back by your ear, you hear me Reina!" Before Reina could barely mutter a 'yea' Miss assistant stormed away, the click of her heals creating a rather catchy tune as she rushed back towards the agency. Letting out a sigh, Reina turned her path to the North Lumiose Pokemon Center.
'You lied to her, Reina. You do know she'll find out.' Anubis stated as they walked. "Now, now. I didn't lie." Reina replied, looking rather hurt. "I am getting a Pokemon looked at. Ra to be exact. If there is any one person I can trust in this entire city, it'd be her. Joy only cares about Pokemon's well being, she's not one to concern herself with money or criminals." Anubis narrowed his eyes this time, but soon enough his gaze softened when the center came into view. 'I guess.' He finally replied. Upon entering the Pokemon Center Reina quickly went to the counter, gathering Nurse Joy's attention for a quick powwow about Ra and how very sensitive it was that Ra's existence go undetected. Joy understood, quickly taking Ra back to get checked over, leaving Reina to simply wait for her return. It was then, a familiar bundle of red locks caught her gaze. "Well I'll be." Reina grinned.
Approaching young Rose, Reina offered a wave. "Fancy meeting you here, Ami."

Lafayette grinned as Mel picked up his call. That was good because if she hadn’t he probably would’ve never found her again. Okay, that was probably just a bit of a stretch but still. They chatted and he let her know that he’d had no luck finding a place for their sparring match, but the two worked out meeting on the outskirts of the city. With all that said and done and the last of the pastries devoured, he and Noah headed off.
They weren’t that far off from the meeting place and so the Aussie spent some time jabbing at the air with one fist in practice, while Noah followed suit at his heels, attempting to mimic the actions albeit with two fists, not one. The practice dropped as Mel appeared and Lafayette met her wave with his own. "Hey Mello! How’d ya blue at the gym go?" He inquired thoughtfully though chuckled at the follow-up comment.
"Oh yeh? Take it, it went well if ya feelin’ cockeh," he teased back, about to place a hand on his hip before the water was thrown and he instead took to catching it. Mel just gave a wink to Lala's assumption-- it was, eh, on par for the most part, and at the very least, he was somewhat right in the correlation. She might not have swept the competition, but she won, and that was the important thing, and not to mention, it got her amped up for her own "battle", which was the relevant thing. She swung her backpack off her arm and rolled her shoulders, working one with one hand, then the other as she rolled her head. Lafayette watched Mel curiously, head tilted to the side as she went about a mini-work out for herself in preparation for their spar. She certainly was hyped up, wasn’t she? He liked it! A grin crossed his face and he puffed out his chest, giving it a solid pounding with his fist. "Oh yeh? Well then I’ll use wha’ mah dad’s taught me! Ol’ blue ah tha’ oldies, eh?" He beamed. Not that Lafayette’s father had taught him any kind of ‘style’... if anything it was free-form wtfery that involved throwing a lot of weight around and maybe hitting people where they didn’t want to be hit.
So the fighting style of people back from the stone age or the like. Either way, it’d worked well for him in pretty much 99% of the scuffs he’d ever been in. The 1%? People who were cheating by using weapons. The cowardly bastards that they were.
Unscrewing the cap of his own water with his teeth (thank goodness it was plastic) he took a swig and sat it down, gesturing to Noah to keep an eye on it and prevent it from spilling before walking back over to stand in front of Mel. Mel furrowed her brow, still smiling, but looking at Lala with squinting eyes as she really tried to figure out what that meant. She got he was fighting with his father's style, too (which, admittedly, she wasn't putting a lot of real weight behind, she figured it was just brute force even with that claim), but the rest of it... sort of through her for a loop. She gave it a good minute or so of thought, though, before simply letting it pass, and chuckled as Lala teased back, relaxing some in her stance. It was better to be relaxed, honestly, and the banter helped her remember that and refocus herself. She liked this, honestly-- having someone she could physically brawl with, joke with, and not really worry about hurting their feelings (or limbs). Not that Lala was all easy or anything, but, still. This was nice.
"Uncle it is," she agreed with a smirk, adjusting her stance slightly, and lowering her center of gravity, "Count of five, let's say.... Nimbasa Cities. Y'know, 'One nimbasa city, two nimbasa city'. Make sure we don't count a little too fast." Not that she really thought Lala was the sort, of course. Honestly, it was more for herself, since she could get a little enthusiastic -- and stubborn -- when she really started getting competitive. Taking a breath, she looked at Lala straight, and didn't seem to at first acknowledge his offer. Honestly, she would have preferred he started off swinging, but still... she could make the first strike.
And she did. She swung out, and the moment he lifted an arm to block, she grabbed onto it and swept around to kick the back of his knee and force it to buckle. It worked-- but she was right, Lala was strong. Even without an arm, he was able to twist and force her over his shoulder, sending her cracking onto the ground, instead of pinning him down like she'd hoped. Quickly letting go of him, she rolled over and jumped up, trying for another precision strike. She seemed to have the upperhand, at least at first, but she was also going a little easier at first. She wanted to have a spar, and she knew, fighting could take some adjusting to. Still, as Lala fought back, and seemed to adapt to her style more, she upped her game, and soon, it started to become more of a struggle. She was still confident she could win -- if only because, on more than a few occasions, he seemed to forget he was down an arm -- but he was really putting up a good fight.
In the end, she managed to shove him onto the ground, dig a knee into his back, and bring his good arm around beside it, pinning him for the count of five. Breathing heavy with a victorious smile, she looked down at him, skin glistening with sweat. "That was a good workout, Lala. Yer a real fighter," she remarked.

Lafayette maintained his grin, catching on for the briefest of moments that Mel was trying to decipher his speech. He’d never quite understand the fascination of it all, but that was whatever. Craning his neck from side to side and rolling his shoulders, the Aussie was more focused on getting pumped and read for the spar that followed.
"Sounds good sheila," Lafayette nodded, agreeing to the terms. Thank goodness he could count because that would have certainly made the situation a lot more awkward. He took his stance again and watched her waiting for her first strike after letting her know the ball was in his court.
The fight was honestly not what he expected. Or maybe it was and he was just a bit surprised? Not so much at Mel and her fighting prowess; she was strong and tactful and it showed. No he supposed what caught him off guard was the odd sensations that followed of him attempting to use a limb that just wasn’t there. Even as he picked up on her moves and acts and corrected himself to combat them, it was a bloody struggle.
And he loved it. At least until a final misplaced act on his part ultimately ended up with him pinned and despite the best of his struggles, unable to get up before the final count. Damnit.
Lafayette gave a low guttural growl from his pinned position, managing to turn his face just enough to peer with one mismatched eye back over his shoulder at her. For the briefest of moments he had the sort of look that a rather violent villain might have after being stopped by a hero moments before things went to hell and an unexpected murdering happened. All too soon that disappeared to be replaced with a bit of a smile in his eyes as he cracked a grin.
"Ta Mello, ain’ ta bad yehself," He commented, panting through his words just a bit. He gave a wiggle under her and a jerk of his head slightly back at her. "Yeh mind?" He asked, indicating that he’d like to get up if that was alright and once he was allowed to do so. The Aussie rolled over and sat up, reaching his arm around to rub at the spot where her knee had previously been.
"L’il bit of ah savageh, yeh? Yeh da’ taugh’ yeh well," he commented with a grin, pulling his hand pack around to rub at his shoulder. It kind of stung to have lost but then it was a worthwhile fighter to lose to so. He could admit defeat. This once."Yeh said it’s ah style? Wha’ style sheila?" He asked curiously.

Surprisingly, Mel wasn't too thrown by the look Lala gave her when he lost. She sort of expected it, given how he'd acted with Z and such earlier, at the resort in Alola. The degree of how violent he looked did make her grin die down to a questioning look, and she raised an eyebrow as she braced herself, just in case, but her smile returned as he cracked a grin and relaxed. Good. She didn't want to have to give him an extra beating just to get him to calm down a bit.
She chuckled, ready to get off him when he verbally conceded, though him wiggling and requesting it made her smirk and narrow an eye playfully, shifting to sit on his back a bit. "I dunno, think maybe you ought to do a few one handed pushups with me on here, t'work on gettin' that strength of yours up a bit more," she teased, but moved, and pushed herself up, brushing some of the dust and dirt off as she let him get himself up.
"Savage, huh? Ah Lala, that's not even with you pissing me off. Then I really get savage," she replied with a wink, only to move over and grab her water bottle. She nodded to his observation on her dad teaching her well, and glanced over as he asked about the style. Swallowing, she capped her bottle and grabbed his, tossing it over to him. "A few types. My dad's a martial arts teacher back in Castelia, and he sort of weaved up his own style between a few kinds," she explained, smiling and placing a hand on her hip as she caught her breath, "I could always try 'n teach ya some, if you wanted."

Lafayette gave Mel a suspicious look when she teased that he ought to get in a few push-ups with her on his back, before giving a low rumble of a chuckle and shaking his head. "Sorreh Mello, but yeh ain’ got tha’ weigh’ I’m use ta liftin’," he commented back, giving a bemused look as he sat himself up once she was off. Like was that a compliment or something? Who the hell knew. He certainly didn’t seem to think much more of it though.
He chugged some of the water to revitalize himself, his breathing slowly going from the slightly labored heaving to regular after a minute or so. "Ooooh? Realleh sheila?" A wicked sort of grin crossed his face. "So waz it take ta make ya mad as a cut ekans?" He teased, though the tone of his voice seemed to suggest that he really was curious on what might send Mel over the edge. Was it something he dared to try for a good fight? Or maybe he was genuinely interested in not crossing her. It was hard to tell from that inquiry to be honest and his face didn’t seem to indicate one way or another.
"Huh…, " he mumbled, water bottle still to his lips as he took in the information. "Yeh dad sounds like a fun one sheila," the Aussie finally commented, though it sounded very distant and half-hearted. His brow had knitted together and he looked as though he was annoyed but whatever thoughts were crossing his mind, It was an awkward moment of silence for him before he shook his head and returned to the current reality, forcing a grin at the notion that Mel might be willing to teach him some of her tactics. Pffff... was that a compliment? Mel was so unsure no how to respond to that, the moment ultimately ended up passing her by, but she could not, for hte life of her, figure out how Lala might have meant that. Honestly, given how Lala was, she wasn't really inclined to think so, but she didn't take it as an insult, either. She dusted her hands off as she let him get up and grabbed their waters. She raised an eyebrow over her own water bottle as he asked his question, though, a smirk tugging his lips. "Trust me, you don't want to know," she replied back, still playful, but a bit more dry. Honestly she didn't get mad that often.... or at least, not violently mad. She was easy to irk and get her to change her tone -- Brian did it constantly, but it almost never resulted in fights like... well, the one they were in now -- but for her to actually lash out at someone? If they were already sparring it might be easier, because when blood is pumping and adrenaline is rushing, things jump faster, but on level headed ground... Well, she supposed it depended. Honestly, she might not have been able to answer the question even if she wanted to give Lala that information.
She quirked an eyebrow again at his comment, though this time, more questioningly. "He is," she replied back, similarly ambiguous. She couldn't tell if he was insincere, or if he was just lost in... whatever the Lala equivalent of thought was. While Ra was being looked at by the trusted Nurse Joy, Reina had found a familiar face, to which she greeted with a smile. Rose quickly apologized for leaving Reina, which was of no issue with Reina. "I see, Ami." She replied. "Ah, you mean to battle Clement then?" This was the gym leader of Lumiose City, unless Rose meant to challenge another leader of Kalos. "I'd love to train with you, Ami. Though Business calls me away from trainer work." Thinking for a moment, Reina reached back to her bag and pulled out a small wallet-shaped object that flipped open and from it she pulled out a card. "I'm actually a P.I. of this city, so if you need assistance just call me." Placing the wallet back in it's place, the Egyptian stepped back. From the corner of her eye she noticed Nurse Joy returning from the back, which was likely Reina's cue to get moving. "En tous cas, I shall leave you to it. Have a good nights rest, Ami." With a wink, Reina left the red-head with her card and went to meet with Nurse Joy.
Joy herself showed some concern, mostly for the kind of Pokemon that Ra is. "How is it you came into charge of such a Pokemon?" Joy inquired. Reina gave a nervous smile. "It's a long story, Joy. Needless to say Ra is only one piece of an otherwise larger puzzle." Reina, for her skill, is well known in Lumiose for her detective work, the fact that nearly her entire team was made up of Pokemon she'd saved and befriended on such high profile cases is evident to this. Joy left Reina with the benefit of the doubt. "I see. Well, as far as their health goes, they are in tip-top shape. There was some damage to some flight wings and stress caused a few of their feathers to fall out, but Ra should be good to travel again. I would like to hold them overnight however, you are welcome to go visit now for a while. But please, keep quiet as there are other Pokemon resting in the back." Reina nodded her head. A quick in and out would be fair. After all she had an hour before Miss Assistant would send the metaphorical dogs after her.
Leading Reina into the back room, the Egyptian was taken aback when she saw Ra resting on the floor. His body had been far to big to fit on one of those medical tables, so instead it was pushed to the side to allow room for his body. Reina approached the bird's front, resting a hand down on it's head. "Joy says you've lost a bit of feathers, but otherwise you're all good." Reina voiced with a smile. The bird lifted it's head, cooing softly though otherwise showing no other affection. "I hate to keep you confined like you are, but I have no doubt the people who chased after you are going to return and this time, I might not be able to free you." The bird cooed once more, lowering it's head. 'I am not the only one.' A foreign voice invaded Reina's mind, but after a moment of shock the Egyptian let her eyes rest on Ra's. So it finally spoke to her. Reina sat down on a free chair, pulling herself back in. "What... do you mean?" The Articuno lifted it's head, looking out towards the sky from a skylight in the ceiling. 'I am one of three, though we are rivals we still look out for one another. They have also been captured, their coats of a unique beauty as mine. Find them, save them.' Ra lowered his gaze. 'I beseech you.' So, in the end Reina was right. This was deeper. This might be the biggest case she'd stumbled upon in years. From what Reina knew about legendary lore, Articuno was one of a trio of birds that originate from the Kanto region. Moltres and Zapdos being the other two. Standing up, the Egyptian knew just what she needed to do. "Alright, Ra. You've officially hired, Reina D. Lupin." The egyptian stated with a grin. "I'll save your rivals if it's the last thing I do. We can discus payment later." Ra looked rather confused. 'Payment?' Obviously confused by Reina's words, the Egyptian laughed for a moment, shaking her head. "I'm joking, Ra. I don't accept monetary gains from helping Pokemon." Since those cases were... rather few and far in between. Now if a human had hired her to help a Pokemon that would be another story. Either way, Checking her watch she had half an hour to return to the agency, might as well not leave Miss Assistant waiting. "I'll see you right away in the morning, Ra. Be good to Nurse Joy. She can be trusted." The Egyptian gave a nod, watching as Ra nodded in return and with that Reina left the back room, and swiftly made her way out of the Pokemon Center, only for a moment to pass before she felt an odd warmth in her shoulder as well as the sharp 'crack' of a gun shot. 'REINA!' The Egyptian stepped back, her back hitting the automatic sliding doors of the center... her vision quickly faded and before she could mutter a word she was out like a light.
