"After the warrior's story was finished, I asked the old woman the meaning of the blue lines on her chin, looking all the while out of the corners of my eyes at the warrior with the star on his forehead. I was a little afraid that he would rebuke me for my boldness. "Here the old woman began: 'Why, my grandchild, they are signs, - secret signs I dare not tell you. I shall, however, tell you a wonderful story about a woman who had a cross tattooed upon each of her cheeks.' "It was a long story of a woman whose magic power lay hidden behind the marks upon her face. I fell asleep before the story was completed."
That's very interesting to read about. It makes me wonder what the real reasoning behind the tattoos were. I know that some tribes use tattoos as symbols to represent life events or special occasions that make them who they are. I wonder if this applies the same to these old folks with their tattoos. Or is there something more to these tattoos that have nothing to do with tribal practices or mythical legends? Hmm... intriguing.

"Before the old warrior had finished eating, my mother entered. Immediately she wondered where I had found coffee, for she knew I had never made any, and that she had left the coffeepot empty. Answering the question in my mother's eyes, the warrior remarked, 'My granddaughter made coffee on a heap of dead ashes, and served me the moment I came."
*chuckles* Poor girl. She meant well by her actions of being the hostess for the guest. ((And just a sidenote - Zitkala Sa had found some coffee grounds at the bottom of the coffeepot - so it wasn't completely empty.))

"I am not ready to give you any word,' she said to them. 'To-morrow I shall send you my answer by my son."
Reminds me of the traditional Indian practice Franklin mentioned in his piece about Indians waiting a day before giving their answer to an offer.

Wait... I'm confused. Zitkala Sa is a female... so why does the parents and grandmother keep confusing her to be a male. Or is this a fictional piece? confused neutral

Originally I was going to comment on all of the things I mentioned here. But by the time I go to the one where I talk about the connection to Sherlock Holmes, I realized that I could easily make up the CR with just it. So... that's what I'm going to do. xd

Blah! Gaia is having a problem with having an Imagebucket page keep uploading whenever you click the reply button. Thankfully, due to looking at a topic mentioned in the Bugs forum in the main Gaia forum area, I found a way to still post. biggrin
Hit the Stop (X) button before it loads the Imagebucket page. Then you'll be able to type and post. 3nodding
Hopefully this problem will be fixed.

Alright. Off to do my Environment & Human Life homework. Shouldn't take too long to read the articles and do the related quiz.

Woot! Done with that.
I love the humor my teacher put into some of the answers for the quiz. I'll share some as examples ((not exact wording that he used)): "What will drillers use to extract the ice core sample?" "Drilling penguins." or "How are Antarctica-related decisions decided?" "Penguin rule."

Need to put away my laundry. Might as well do it right now, since I have the time to do it.

Done looking at all of the older entries on the website. I've decided to keep the website in my bookmarked sites for now, since I like the ideas and themes they show - both actual weddings they've taken or inspiration ideas.
