Lafayette stopped in his tracks as a familiar voice rang out. He turned about to glance behind himself, having been staring at a sign with some rather tasty looking pastry drawings on it before flashing the young woman a grin."G’da see ya Mello!" The Aussie chimed, turning around to face her completely now. He blinked though, frown crossing his face.
"Oh yeh…?" He narrowed a look at Cheri, who didn’t seem to realize he’d done so at all, or if she did was ignoring him instead to stare at Mel expectantly. He shook his head and sighed, swiping the side of hair on his head absently. "Sorreh sheila. Guess chero didn’ give meh the righ’ way ta go," the Aussie remarked, hand moving to the back of his head to rub a bit in embarrassment at this. It didn’t last long though and he was back to grinning at the young woman though he was briefly distracted by the looming pastel tree that had lumbered into view.
"Tha’ bloodeh hell is tha’?" The Aussie remarked with no filtering, immediately jerking a nod in the Alolan Exeggutor’s direction. That certainly wasn’t something he’d seen before. Of course, he couldn’t spend the entire time staring at it and shook his head, focusing on Mel again."How yeh doin’ Mello? What’cha doin’ out here in Kali?"

Mel smiled naturally at Lala's greeting. Her expression shifted to one of amusement as he gave an accusatory look at Cheri, and she glanced down at the Espurr. She blinked at the look she was getting, though. Honestly, she'd sort of become... accustomed to the staring? It was still sort of unnerving, whenever she locked eyes with her for a long enough time, and she gave an uncertain smile, before she realized why she was probably getting the look, and chuckled. Her attention moved back to Lala.
"Ah, it's alright. I mean, how was she t'know my exact location? Not like she's psychic or anythin'," she replied back, shooting a teasing look down at the pokemon. She looked back at Lala and dropped her arms to her side, but turned to glance back over her shoulder at Conglomerate, who bellowed a greeting to Lala in return. "Ah, that's my exeggcutor. I guess he evolved like that 'cause he was in Alola? Anyway.... He found a leafstone, an' this happened," she explained, gesturing, "He was already a bit quirky lookin' to begin with." She smiled a bit, looking back up to Conglomerate a moment, before bringing her attention to Lala once more. "Trainin'," she answered, "Need to start gettin' badges again, 'n some of my pokemon aren't well up on their training. What about you? You didn' just come here for li'l ol' me, didjyou?" Again with the teasing, but what could she say? She was happy to see the guy, even if they'd only hung out a few times before this.

Lafayette gave Mel a bit of a look, one that read ‘you know she knows better’ without speaking the words. Of course, Cheri knew quite well what he was thinking but didn’t seem in the least bit phased by the accusation that she did indeed know better. Still though, he cracked a grin at her joke and chuckled some to himself. "I guess…,"
The Aussie was still staring at Conglomerate as Mel explained, face contorting in confusion. "The hell he did…?" That sounded incredible and he found a bit hard to believe, though he could also almost buy it? After all, Exeggcute already looked like eggs… so how it went to a fat tree normally was beyond him. The idea that it might go from eggs to a …. Taller a** tree? Well… pokemon really were a crazy thing, weren’t they?
"Yeh don’ say… tha’s crazeh sheila," he murmured, head tilting a little as he stared at the pastel palm tree a moment longer before looking back to Mel. He grinned as she remarked she was there training and trying to get the badges. "Oh yeh? Small world there sheila. S’pose ta be doin’ the same," Lafayette answered casually, though he didn’t look to entertained at the thought of getting back to it. He chuckled at her teasing, smile going a bit wider. "Well, we did have a blue planned yeh know? But I’m thinkin’ this is a lil’ more important, hm? So I guess I can wait," he teased back, straightening up and setting his hand on his hip, looking at her curiously. "Who yeh taken then? ‘S…. leckie gym ‘round here ain’ it?"

Mel smiled, but let the matter of Cheris' guilt slide away. She shot the espurr one last look, before casting a more fond smile at the pokemon over her shoulder. He sure was getting one hell of a response otu of Lala, wasn't he? For good reason, she'd had one hell of a response herself, but she couldn't help but enjoy it. Most of his reactions to things were pretty amusing, really. Sans rage, that was. "You're tellin' me. 'Magine how surprised I was when I saw him evolve like that," she pointed out with a laugh.
She raised her eyebrows, a smile crossing her face at Lala's comment. "Y'don't say? Care ta do a bit of trainin' together? Maybe we can find a chance ta fight each other, after all," she replied back, giving a playful wink, "I'm still eager to test you, after all." She paused, then bit her lip a bit, as she became just a bit self-aware at a fact Brian had pointed out before-- her accent was really getting thicker. It was hard not to, though; Lala's manner of speaking was just infectious, and while she sure hoped she wasn't sounding anything like him, or like she was duplicating his accent, it was easy to get into a lazier way of speaking with him around.
She blinked at his question, though, expression a bit blank as she tried to decode that. Leckie.... "Oh!" She smiled again as she finally caught on, hands on her hips, "Yeah, right. I'm taking on the electric gym, just over there. I could prolly handle it, t'be honest, but I'd rather make sure my pok'mon are ready, 'n get 'em set up for the next one after, too. What about you?" She quirked a curious look at him. They'd talked about this before, hadn't they? Gyms and everything. But was he really at this point in Kalos, too? Small world indeed, if that was the case....

Cheri only returned the looks she received with that standard knowing blank stare, glancing back at the tall pokemon as well and taking in the sight before returning her attention the communicator still in her paws. Lafayette was eventually able to keep his eyes off Conglomerate (hard as it really was) to focus on Mel. He still had a hard time wrapping his head around it all, but there would be time to marvel more later.
He definitely snapped to attention at the prospect of training and still fighting, mostly the fighting, cheeky grin crossing face once more as his head bobbed in an approving nod. "Yeh? I like ya’ thinkin’ sheila," he said, and just to cement the fact that he whole heartedly supported it, gave a thumbs up too. "Wouldn’ mind join’ yeh either. Chero ain’ much fa conversation ‘n all," which was all too true.
"Well g’donya sheila! Takin’ them gyms, bes’ way ta get strongah," he remarked and gave her a gentle slap on the shoulder of good will. He had to think about it a moment when it came to Kalos, frowning briefly but turning it back to a smile. "Yeh can show meh how this one gets done! I ain’ done the one before here so can’ go challengin’ em ta a blue jus’ yet ya know?" Though he could probably wipe the previous gym out really easily if he wanted but for now… well he’d been trying to just focus one region. He could back track later.

Mel gave a playful wink at Lala's approval and chuckled, dropping her hands down. "Really? I wouldn't have guessed. She's quite the conversationalist over messages," she remarked with some amusement. She looked at Lala with a light smile, considering something with her head tipped to the side, before she gave it a shake, and loosely folded her arms over her chest.
"Well, I don't know about that, but I'll try my best. What I meant, though, was what gym're you training for?" she asked lightly. Casting a glance at Cheri, she motioned for Lala to follow. "C'mon, I promised Cher some ice cream, 'n then we can get to training," she suggested, flashing a smile to the psychic pokemon. Conglomerate, meanwhile, leaned way, way over, neck bending as he brought his head down to gaze curiously at the other psychic, as if trying to get her attention, or perhaps just get a better look at her tiny self.

"Oooh yeh?" Lafayette didn’t actually sound like he approved of that observation, giving Cheri a glance and considering for the briefest of moments that he ought to take away the communicator. Her conversationalist ways had led to more interactions that Juliean probably actually approved of. Oh well. "She def’nly has a way with words sheila, tha’s feh sure," he commented with a shake of his head.
"Well, a’course," he grinned, giving her shoulder a little punch-nudge. He considered the question a moment, thinking about it a moment. "Eh.. the… psycho one? Ovah in Saffie in Kanto," The Aussie remarked at the inquiry, seeming to take a moment to consider if that was correct before a confident look crossed his features. Of course, that quickly switching to surprise at the comment that Cheri apparently was owed… ice cream.
Oh. Well that certainly explained a lot and he shot the pink Espurr a look once more. ". . . ‘aigh’ sheila, s’pose tha’s foine…," he murmured, shaking his head at this point. It was amazing how easily Cheri seemed to weasel her way into treats that she didn’t deserve.
The psychic didn’t miss that, turning her attention first to Mel with what would’ve probably been an approving look at this choice of action, before turning her attention as they toddled along to Conglomerate, noticing that he seemed to be attempting to catch her attention. She stared a long while at the tree, glancing between him and the communicator before deciding it was probably a better option to communicate with the living creature next to her as opposed to the virtual ones beyond the screen.

Laughing, Mel cast a fond little glance down to Cheri, a wry smile tugging at the corner of her mouth. "Mm, that she does," she agreed simply, attention lingering on the pokemon a moment. In fact, Cheri's... wording was always noteworthy. She had a distinct way of talking, and moving between topics. Or jumping, rather. Or... teleporting. Really, she was an interesting little espurr, and Mel actually enjoyed texting her, in a befuddled, entertained sort of way. She couldn't always understand her, but she did appreciate them for what they were.
Completely unfazed by the punch, and in fact grinning from it and giving an immediate, light punch back, she turned to start walking. She smirked at his answer, having taken a moment to try and decode it, again. "Careful callin' people 'psycho', Lala," she teasingly warned, reaching over to give his cheek a light, playful pinch, "Some psychics might not appreciate it." She dropped her hand down, giving him a mischievous side grin, while they started making their way through the city. She was pretty sure she knew who he was talking about, though. She wasn't that familiar with Kanto -- she'd mostly been in Unova, Sinnoh, Kalos and Alola, in her life and recent travels -- but she had looked over this kind of information when preparing to travel, and figuring out the gyms of each region. Not that she'd retained all that info to pull up on cue, obviously.
She swept into a shop to get Cheri her ice cream, letting the espurr pick, and grabbed herself some, offering to buy Lala some as well. She wouldn't mention that last time she'd bought his ice cream, he'd been stuck under her own sturdy legendary. It did remind her, though... "By the way, you still got Z?" she asked, heading to the edge of the city to find some wild pokemon fro training, while eating her ice cream, "I realized I completely forgot to get him back from you 'fore we parted ways. Not that I really mind." And she didn't. Yet. She had given Lala the legendary for a reason, after all, and she doubted he could fulfill that in such a short time. Still though, she missed him. Even if she didn't get him back, maybe he could at least join them while they trained their pokemon....?
Conglomerate (or, one of his heads) grinned at Cheri as he successfully obtained her attention. "Hi! / Flavor? / No. / You look like cotton candy! Are you cotton candy? / Are you sweet? / Look who's talking," It wasn't quite hard to tell, looking at him, why the jumble of responses sound broken and disconnected-- they were. The cherry, friendly one, the one who had wanted to catch her attention, the one who was bellowing and dancing around, who was so happy to be out and evolved, and complete, was the primary voice, the first one, but others chimed in, either to continue the subject, or interject their own comments. The other heads-- the other sentient minds of the single pokemon. A certainly... different phenomenon. And perhaps confusing.

Lafayette gave Mel a bit of a wary look at the remark. He didn’t know whether it was good that Mel sounded like she was agreeing to his statement. He certainly didn’t think it a good thing but well… Cheri did what Cheri wanted to do.
He scoffed at the return punch and the comment not to go calling people ‘psycho’, a wicked grin spreading on his face. "Oh yeh sheila?" He made a face at the cheek pinching like a small child would when facing in-laws who constantly did the safe, shaking his head when she released and rubbing the pinched spot with his hand. "Ppfff well, they should. I ain’ afraid a’ them," he brooded, falling in step beside her as they started moving along. He’d had just enough of an interaction with psychics to believe who could take them. Maybe.
The Aussie took Mel up on her offer for ice cream, not seeming to recall that briefly moment of shame where he was being sat on by a giant rock slug on the beach in Alola. At least that wasn’t what reminded him; more like Mel’s question about the pokemon did instead. "Oh yeh," right he still had that thing with him didn’t he? He jerked his head back over his shoulder to the bag on his back. "I reckon I do! Got’em in the baggo here, almos’ forgot abou’ tha’ buggah." He grinned, taking a bite out the the ice cream pop he’d gotten himself. "I’ll dig’em ou’ feh yah once we settle."
Cheri in the meantime, enjoyed the triple three flavored scoops of a strawberry-cherry-bubble gum ice cream cone that had been delivered unto her my Mel. A masterpiece of a masterful color, she took to her light consumption of the frozen dairy product as the moved along though her attention was split between it and Conglomerate. She hadn’t responded back before receiving her ice cream to the cacophony of voices that answered her and still seemed to be silently mulling over it all before she returned her attention to the other psychic. "There are many of you. I am not a flavor. Thank you cotton candy is great. Have you had some? I like the yellow flavor. I am very sweet. My trainer doesn’t think so though. Neither does the otter. But they are wrong. Who is talking? You are all talking. You are very strange." It didn’t even seem to phase her too much to be communicating with so many entities at once, managing to continue with her ice cream licks as she went, already showing the first few signs of sugar high vibrations.
He didn’t hesitate to head more so for the outskirts of town so they could start up training, though it did occur to him that there was a lack of a body. "Where’s ya mate at by the way sheila?" Lafayette asked as they slowed in a reasonable area for training. Bit of forest, bit of grass; it’d get the job done. He finished the last bite of his ice cream, snapping the stick in half and dropping it to the ground before going about freeing up his pokemon to train. Once everyone knew what was up and was toddling out to the grass, he tugged the bag from his back to set on the ground, kneeling down and opening up to start digging about. Rolling her eyes, Mel couldn't help a slight smirk of amusement tug at her lips. Lala was just like a child, with the face he pulled and the pouting he did over her warnings. It would have been quite a bit more adorable if she didn't know just how far that simpleness extended, but even that wasn't enough to ruin the moment for her. "Ah, I wouldn' imagine you are," she agreed, nodding compliantly. She could practically hear Brian making some smart remark about not having a mind to read, and kicked herself for doing so, before shaking her head with a light smile. Personally, she liked Lala, so long as he wasn't... doing what he did at the beach. But they could avoid that, right?
She smiled as he mentioned having Z's pokeball in his backpack, though her smile turned a little quizzical. "Oh yeah? D'you keep all your pokeballs in there, or just the inactive ones?" she asked curiously. Or at least, she assumed Z wasn't in his party... Or maybe hoped? Not because she didn't want him training or battling with him, she was fine with that, but she didn't really like the idea he'd just been stuffed into a bag for any other reason than "there wasn't room anywhere else".... She wasn't sure. At any rate, she settled along with him, eating her own ice cream, and watching with amusement as Lala managed to actually chew through his. Amazing.
Reaching the outskirts, she shifted her ice cream to one hand, reaching back with the other to start releasing some of the pokemon that needed training. "Hm? Oh, y'mean Brian?" she mused, though deflated some as the answer came to her, and their little... frictional conversation came back to her. ".... We're taking a little break from each other," she answered coolly, tossing the last pokeball, and catching it once it had released Kiwi, before tucking it back to her belt. She moved her weight to one side and propped her hand up on her hip as Lala started digging around, though her eyes caught on the popsicle stick. While he was busy, she casually moved over, picked it up.... and slipped the pieces into his back pocket, before coming back around, and pretending to simply keep watch on the pokemon, while he searched for his legendary. It didn't take long for her to start glancing curiously, and impatiently back at him, though.
Conglomerate, obviously, had stayed outside, though he still rocked happily from side to side, from foot to foot, while he waited. He didn't seem the least bit bothered at Cheri's prolonged silence, although one of the faces did look rather disgruntled after. His attention shifted completely back to her as she finally did decide to respond, grinning brightly. "There are three of us! / Can we taste you? / Ignore that / Who's the otter? / Why are you pink?" Still, the voices jumbled and cluttered together, but if anything, Cheri's ability to keep up with them seemed to excite him-- or at least, one of his voices -- even more. There wasn't a communication barrier! He looked up as several of his teammates were released, bellowing a greeting, and receiving several long, serious stares, before the pokemon dispersed to train on their own. Maybe they weren't feeling social at the moment?

"Yeh, keep the spares and stuff in the sack, jus’ easier as I ain’ got a lottah space on the belto," Lafayette answered to Mel’s inquiry, patting at his tool belt as further indication of why he didn’t tend to keep too much at his waist. Just the immediate team and all and if he ever chose to have more that he needed to swap too, he could do so according.
He paused briefly in his rummaging to look up at Mel though as she answered his inquiry about where Brian was, eyebrow raising in a questioning matter. ‘Taking a break from one another’? That didn’t sound like a good thing. "Oh yeh? Ya get in a blue with’em sheila?" He asked point blank, resting his arm on his leg as he eyed her. The two fighting didn’t seem… right? Of course, then again, who was he to say. He went back to digging in the bag, expression slowly beginning to shift to confusion. He was certain Z’s ball was in his bag the last time he’d had it; he had a lot of stuff though now. Still…
"Hey sheila, Z’s ball was grey roigh’?" The Aussie inquired, mix matched gaze still focused down in his bag as he checked his memory. He was positive it was grey but well… didn’t hurt to ask right?
Cheri paused in her ice cream licking to address Conglomerate again as the voices all sounded again to her own inquiries, staring up at the creature (which now that she thought about it, was very, very tall) with her stare. Again, there was a long pause and she took a few extra licks of her treat before she once more honored them all with a response.
"There are three of you? Are you siblings then? I do not have siblings; do you ever get lonely still? The otter is Noah. He is annoying. He doesn’t like me very much, he is very rude. I can crush him with rocks, just like our trainer. Pink is a good color. I am a good color. I don’t think I taste very good. Would you prefer ice cream instead? Ice cream is good, if I could have a flavor I would be ice cream. What would you be?" The Espurr inquired, taking another lick of her ice cream before semi-offering it forward for Conglomerate to try should he want to. Only one lick though, any more and someone would be yelling timber as he hit the ground.

Mel nodded. "Makes sense. Think I do the same, for the most part. That, or have Bri hold 'em," she remarked, smirking some. She felt a little tug at the reminder of her friend, but quickly pushed it down. Though, ignoring it became near impossible when Lala somewhat confronted her on the topic, narrowing in on her wording. She sighed, gesturing and rolling her gaze evasively up and then away. "Nah, not like that. Just... ya ever spend too much time with someone, 'n things just sorta build up from the sheer amount've time you've spent together?" she proposed. Not that that was exactly what happened, but... maybe it was? It was hard to tell with them... but things wouldn't stay tense for long, she was sure of it.
She blinked at Lala's question, looking curious, and moving over. "Yeah, pretty sure. It was an... XP Ball? I think?" she recalled. It was something she'd had with her for the longest time, but it was so commonly a part of her, it wasn't something she had actually taken notice of in regards to it's appearance. Grey sounded right, though. "Why?" She crouched down, sucking on the end of her stick and looking at him questioningly. Did he have a lot of those or something...?
Conglomerate leaned down slightly, listening to Cheri, his main face grinning openly, with interest. He gave a low, warbling laugh of enjoyment at the conversation, bouncing a little, still full of energy, while one of the other faces gave a skeptical frown. "We are together! / Always together / Almost like siblings / You throw rocks? / I / would / be--" The voices cluttered then fell silent as he considered, before happily deciding--"Pop rocks!" He gave a happy bellow and danced, the ground nearly shaking, before he leaned down, and licked the ice cream, tasting all three and then licking his lips and humming. "If you were ice cream, you taste good!" he laughed, dancing again.

Lafayette’s stare lingered on Mel as she explained the current tensions between herself and Brian, brow furrowing and a clear cut frown on his face as he made sense of the words. Honestly, he only semi-understood the feeling; he’d quickly come to despise any time he spent in Juliean’s presence after all, but for him that usually led to a strong desire to punch the man right between the eyes. He had a hard time imagining that his Mel and Brian’s prolonged time together resulted in the same feels.
"I think I got ya…. You ain’ gone an’ killed’em off have yeh?" The Aussie inquired, half jokingly, half… sort of seriously. There was always a chance that it got to that point, he didn’t know. "Can help ya hide a bodeh if ya need," he chuckled and shook his head. "Neh, but…. Hopin’ it works out fa’ yeh sheila. Ain’ any good ta be mad at yeh mates." Not that he was one to really be talking like that but, it sounded good in his ears.
He frowned some as Mel confirmed what he remembered/ "Yeh… yeh I though’ so," Lafayette murmured and once more dug around in the bag, beginning to pull out a bunch of the items just to give himself more viewing room. He didn’t have all that many pokeballs after all… nor round things for that matter. After probably a third comb through he paused, still kneeling before his bag with a look of confusion as he seemed to be racking his brain. Finally he turned his head enough to look at Mel, expression still confused before he spoke up. "I can’ find it sheila."
Cheri bounced up and down as Conglomerate rattled the earth beneath them, her focus on her ice cream stack and ensuring that it didn’t topple in the process. She had the same focus when the Alolan Exeggutor took the offered lick. Lowering it, she took a few licks herself and nodded in agreement. Why yes, if she was these series of flavors, she would be delicious. She could already appreciate the good taste of this pokemon, odd as he (or was it they?) was.
"I see. That must be nice. Do you find it hard to sleep? Do you go to the bathroom together? That seems like it would be annoying. Always annoying, I like silence. I can throw rocks. Yes I can show you too if you want. Pop rocks is a flavor? I have not tried them are they good? Yes, it is a delicious flavor. I would like to be delicious. You look like a cake. Cake is delicious." she commented, stilling bouncing in place as the other danced about but unphased.

Mel scoffed, obviously not taking Lala's question at all seriously. She snorted again as he continued the joke, and moved to lightly kick his leg as he knelt down by the bag while he searched. "Oh hush. Trust me, you spend too much time around me, 'n you'll get tired of me too," she assured him with a smirk. Honestly... she was a little more clear headed about the whole thing now, after talking to Lala about it. She... was a little hard to be around for a long time. She got neurotic and worked up and worried and fussed and high strung even though she could just as easily not and remain calm. But she still did it. And Brian... dealt with it a lot. He probably was more in the right with this little spat than she was, though she wasn't sure she was quite ready to tell Brian that.
The humor died down some as she noticed the frown on Lala's face, and she moved around to get a better look at him, his bag, and what he was doing. She drew the ice cream stick from her mouth as he started emptying out items, and a tightness slowly started wrapping itself around her chest. "What d'you mean?" she asked, a panic starting to bubble up. She quickly knelt down, grabbed his bag, and jerked it over to begin digging through. In less than five seconds, she gave up on that, and turned it over to dump everything out, searching the items, then the pockets, every level of the bag, before dropping it. She turned her gaze to Lala, eyes wide and expression in horrified disbelief. "Where the hell is it, Lala!?"
Con bounced up and down a few times. "Always together!" he reiterated, all three voices chiming in, each in their own tone. He peered down curiously at the comment on silence, listening to the rest of what she had to say. "Silence sounds lonely / It sounds nice / Pop rock is good. You should ask Mel to get you some / She might / Are you not delicious now? / I'm not cake / You probably shouldn't taste me either!" Conglomerate blinked and straightened back up, looking over as, finally, he tuned in some to their trainers. Mel was getting louder... Was she upset? He might not have been psychic anymore, but he still had... some capabilities. And he got the feeling something miiiiight be.... a little wrong.

Lafayette would’ve loved to chide Mel further on her claim that spending too much time around her would make a soul tired; he certainly didn’t feel that way. Then again, maybe they hadn’t spent enough time? Or maybe he was just that simple that so long as she wasn’t being a level of overbearing (like Juliean) than he could let it slide.
He would’ve loved too but there was more pressing matters to address. He didn’t try to stop Mel as she ripped his bag away and started tearing through his things in search for her pokemon’s pokeball, mismatched gaze watching the items as they tumbled out as though he expected it to randomly appear. It didn’t though and the next thing he knew he was greeted with a look of horrified disbelief.
"I… dunno," he remarked, shuffling through his things with his hand. It probably would have helped if he … didn’t seem so calm about the situation? Maybe it just didn’t quite hit him that he’d gone and misplaced a legendary that didn’t belong to him. Or maybe he did? Either way, it seemed he was thinking really hard about it. "Know a’ didn’ go usin’ ‘em… should be aroun’ here though," … right?
Cheri looked up at Con curiously as he bounced and responded to her inquiry. He certainly moved a lot of a lumbering tree creature, which brought about several more questions that clearly needed to be asked. "That is nice. Do you get a neck ache from being so tall? You sway so much. Are you a tree? You seem like a tree. I will ask her. Your trainer is very nice. Does she give you pop rocks? You should be cake. Cake is almost as good as ice cream. Almost. I will taste the pop rocks and think it’s you then." She turned though as the trainer in question became louder, staring at a Lala who looked to be actually trying to thing and an exasperated Mel. She could tell too that something was the matter.
"Your trainer seems upset. You should give her these pop rocks."
