 HUGBEAM: weary fictional dads arent even characters anymore they are like wives to me This is basically how I envision Izzy being to my self-insert OC. She calls him her "Sea Dad" because he was like a father figure to her. Despite their relationship being rocky (especially with what he's done in regards to Ed), she still loves and looks up to him.
But then there's me personally who's like... I don't know whether to see him as the father figure like my self-insert OC... or if he's the alternate love interest if Blackbeard wasn't an option. xd

And while we're on that point of discussion... the whole "wife" imagery with Izzy has come further into fruition in my mind after watching clips of Con O'Neill in his role as Val. Like WOW... Con does a really good job pulling off all those looks. You can flirt with me any time, thank you very much.
It also made me amused on how if we are applying the LGBTQ+ theme from OFMD to my self-insert OC's term of "sea dad" for Izzy... it could be the nautical equivalent to "drag mom/dad". Like seriously, think about it. The younger individual finds themselves being accepted into this found family and learning the trade from an (usually) older individual who takes them under their wing. Sometimes the new person takes on aesthetic cues with their own look because they are now a member of that particular drag parent's family and that's how they say "Yes, I'm a _________. Bow to my fabulousness, b*tch!" whee I quite like that idea honestly with my own experiences of interacting with the LGBTQ+/drag community.
