    STEDEBONNY: We see Ed in clothes that aren’t his and how he is very obviously performing in them, whether he’s simply being silly and having fun or trying to fit in and be perceived a certain way with the upper crust (and being silly and having fun doing it).
And then, in the finale, we see Ed in his own clothes, but more than ever it is very clear that it is a costume he has on, and that he is performing based on what he’s wearing and how he’s being perceived by Izzy and the rest of the crew.
The very nature of Blackbeard and his legend is that the purpose of his clothing (and general appearance) is to have a certain effect on those around him. He may genuinely like the clothes he wears, but that’s not their priority. Ed has never prioritized himself in his life, really, til he met Stede and realized things could be different.I totally get this. I've experienced the same thing myself throughout my life with a certain appearance I've had to present either around family or for work. Not counting the specific work uniform at the movie theater, I am able to choose what clothes I wear for work... but there's still a certain aesthetic I gravitate towards. It's either maintain a "prim and proper" atmosphere or avoid wearing certain style shirts because I feel uncomfortable wearing them around certain residents.
Outside of the work environment, I'm starting to become more comfortable with wearing clothes that represent my true self. No longer trying to fit into somebody's image of who I am or trying to fit in with a certain group. So on and so forth...

 I would love the idea of a ship cat coming into play. Especially since Frenchie's "cats being evil" spiel... and I just want to see Fang cuddle an animal and be extremely happy about it since he was so upset about his dog being gone.
