lesleys-science (on Tumblr):Fun fact abt witches: Witch is a gender inclusive term. Masc folks and Enbies can be and are witches too! (The term "wizard", in terms of being a masc version of witch, is actually something The Harry Potter Series made up)*cracks up laughing* I'm sorry. But is this person actually stating the term "wizard" was created by J.K. Rowling in her Harry Potter series? If so... I'm sorry that's false. The use of wizard as a masculine version of witch has been around for much longer than that. It pops up in history - usually cultures use the variation "warlock" to designate male witches.
However, the person is correct that witch (and it's related terms - wizard, warlock, and sorcerer) are technically gender neutral. Culture and religious-based superstition is how gender specific views of each term came to appear. The difference between each one is their level of skill and sometimes how they come about their powers (if you are familiar with D&D, you'll know how the game differs each one).
