I like this part:
"Thomas closed his eyes and this story came to him: 'We are all given one thing by which our lives are measured, one determination. Mine are the stories which can change or not change the world. It doesn't matter which as long as I continue to tell the stories."

I always wanted to figure out my percentage, fraction of my ancestry. My numbers are probably so small that it doesn't amount to much... but still...

Alexie's poem "How To Write The Great American Indian Novel" is pretty interesting to read. Especially when how strangely accurate a lot of the statements end up being... at least from the other American Indian literature we've read in the class.
