This all reminds me of a puzzle I heard as a kid...
The gods are immortal, and play games to pass the time. Some games are finite, and some are infinite. In an infinite game, there is only the question "who is ahead?", and not "who won?". Infinite games are sometimes abandoned, of course, and a winner can be declared.
One game is made up of turns. In each turn, the player whose turn it is chooses a game (sub-game, if you would). Once that sub-game is finished, the winner gets a point, and the loser picks a new game. The first one to 10 points wins. There is a set goal of ten points, and a way to win. But if one player chooses an infinite sub-game... hmmm...
So the puzzle is, is this game really finite or infinite?
