my parents chose their own paths and they are happy where they are, so they let us make up our own minds about it all. i am more agnostic than anyone i know. but i dont see that as a bad thing. i have done a lot of soul searching over the past few years, and i would say that when i am ready to accept a god, then it will happen, but not before. and i have no intention of rushing into anything either.

Yea I have no religon. want a personal relationship with God/Jesus but I have not one yet. I may eventually but I shall not follow a religon ecept my own.

A religos friend is supposed to tell me his belifs of God and Jesus and all that. He sais he doesn't like to call himself christian but rather call it a relationship with God. I'd rather have that.

I otherwise have nnothing to do with religon. I own a bible but do not read it XD

I am Roman Catholic. I don't act it, hell, most people probably think I'm a devil-worshipper the way I go through life each day, but I still believe in the holy trinity and all that jazz. Influenced by my mother when I was little, I still go to church every Sunday I can.

Well, just because you consider yourself in a particular religion NOW doesn't mean you have to stick with it.

The best thing you can do is to do research and educate yourself. Once you formulate your own ideas and your own opinions, you can better make a decision for yourself about who you wish to align yourself with, if anyone at all.

That is what I am doing at the moment.
To the creator of the thread I am joining several guilds today or trying that has to do with all branches of religion at the moment. Until about fifth grade I was my mother's religion, Baptist. I'm looking for answers.

when i was little, my family was christian. i went to church because they did. i never thought about it at all. then i got older and did.... i do not believe in god, or any form of higher spiritual being. not sure if i ever did or not though. it just was not something i cared about. it was just like a story to me that i was supposed to remember for whatever reason. i do not think you get the choice to even think about it when you are younger, and so you don't really choose it because you don't know any other way than that which you are taught. maybe it is mostly because you don't care much about something like that when you are a kid. when you get old enough (whatever age that may be, varies on the person) you may think about it, and that is when you make the choice. it's who you are, or it's not

I suppose most people just are what they were raised to be, because that makes sense.

I've always been a very skeptical person and a independant thinker so I never believed what my parents told me about God and what not. They never really inforced it too much though.

It is interesting.... I was raised on the other-side of the fence, an Atheist. However, I ended up dabbling in pretty much everything, trying to find myself. I live in Utah, which is primarily Mormon/LDS, and I was spit on, beaten-up, and mocked from about 3 on because I wasn't Mormon.

So I started looking. I could never understand why followers of someone like Jesus would act like that, and so discarded the religion. Of course, there are some nice Mormons, and I have friends among them, but that took me a *long* time.

After that I played around with Wicca, which I decided was crap since all the practicioners I met didn't know jack and it was really started in the 50's with no reliable records.

I moved on to Buddhism, having known a wonderful monk since I was five, and he taught me meditation and about the Buddha. I liked it, but it wasn't for me.

I looked into branches of Christianity (went to a Catholic shcool), Hinduism, New Age stuff not related to Wicca, and I finally got sick of it.

I was pretty disheartened, I felt like I had looked at everything. Then, doing early college, I had an excellent professor who was Daoist (the oldest recorded form of religion in China that still exists today). I won't go into what it's about, as it's more a lifestyle and philosophy than a religion, but my point is this:

Your relationship with divinity should be up to YOU. It's not up to a priest, shaman, monk, etc. The people I've found that are happiest with religion search for something special and interperet it themselves.

And that, mah dears, is the soapbox.

Ugh, it's horrible when "religous" people pick on others simply because they're not with them.

Just because you're not with tem certainly doesn't mean you're against them. There's truth in all things somewhere. I myself am LDS, and though not very outspoken about my beliefs, am very firm in them. I try to be very delicate about preaching to others as I think it's something that has to be asked for rather than something that is openly done.

I want to go on a mission, but I have mixed issues with door to door and other mass proselyting methods. I just don't think it's correct.

~Well, I'm an athiestic pagan, and I most certainly chose this path for myself. I understand why people usually end up following the religion of their parents, though. When you grow up believing something, it's difficult to break away from it.

I was Christian, because my parents brought me up like so, until I was 11, and picked up a Wicca book. So then I was Wiccan for a while, because I loved the mysticism and the goddess and self-empowering aspects. But recently, I have started doubting it and the whole magick thing. I guess I am just too skeptical. So as of now, I am confused, and just the other day, I checked out a ton of books on every religion that I might have interest in. So far, they have all sucked, because I don't believe anything in them right off the bat. So, I am lost.

I'm an athiestic pagan

Erm, that's a bit self-contradictory, wouldn't you say?

Atheism - believing in no gods or higher powers, literally, "without religion"
Paganism - being of a religion other that Christianity

You can't exactly be both, so please clarify. confused

Im Catholic. I go to church every Sunday. My parents had me Baptized when I was a baby. I had my Fisrt Communion in Second Grade. and About a Year ago I had my Confermation. My Mom told me that if I dont want to be Cathoilc anymore because of whatever reason she doest care becaue she was Methodis then at age 12 started going to church with my dad. It took my mom till her grandma to died about 4 years ago to convert to Catholism. Now my parents are letting me do as I see fit but i like being Catholic and I can say I dont want to be any other Religion. It was their Choice for me to be Catholic in the first place but it was My choice to Stay.

On my part it was both a choice and something that was decided for me. I used to be a christian, then I was a pagan, then I switched back and fourth for a while until I tried to mix the two together.
Later on I starting hearing God, and one day he told me that a was neither of those and that I had no need for a religion, and that I was his friend and follower.

I chose to hear my creator, and he chose my path..

My mom is protestant (sp) and my father catholic. Both of their familys are very into their religions. My parents decided it was up to me and my brother to decide our paths, so we were never baptized to the dismay of my relatives. ( My moms sister refers to us as the children of satan but me more than alex) My parents are not proud of my choice of religion which is pagan also known as wiccan but they do not attempt to hinder my faith. My brother has remained no religion and believes we just rot.

Oh and crunchy, wicca may appear in the 50's alot but If you have researched the word pagan in a historical record you will see it was around even before the catholic church was established. I respect it was not the right religion for you and I am happy you found one but please refrain from calling it crap.
