Crooked Rook padded up to the meeting spot, a bit on the late side. Honestly, he'd been struggling with this decision for a bit now, but he had finally made up his mind. He didn't have anything tethering him to this part of Kells, aside from his pack, so why not join Bluebeard and the others on this mystical journey? Sure, he could get hurt, but that was never a reason for fear. If anything, it made his paws itch even more with the urge to go beyond the gate to the ulterior plane. At least, he hoped that was what lay beyond.

Sizing up the other wolves gathered, he was pleased to see that he recognized most of them, although none he would call "friends." Really, he was sort of a loner, and this he saw as his opportunity to break out of his shell, meet others, and bond with his packmates. Although he risked a lot in doing so, he was devoted to the Crows, and intended to exercise thatdevotion in whatever way he could.

Confidently, after Whitestar announced his intention, Crooked Rook pawed forward and cleared his throat. "I am going."

Big Bad watched as his pack began to step forward, nodding to each individual. Abyss refused to meet his gaze, yet he wished she would. It made sense, especially with the growing tensions between him and her, but he loved her, even if he struggled to show it. A part of him feared her lack of return.

No, honestly, he feared all of their futures. What if this expedition failed? What if they were hurt? It was ridiculous, really, for such a fear. The pack was a group of thieving mercenaries; they were strong. Why did only now he felt insecurity as he looked at his friends and pack members? Because in this very moment he could be sealing their doom. Choices had to be made in his position, and yet what if this one ruined the very eager wolves before him?

      Could he forgive himself?

He cleared his throat, nodding sharply. They had made their choices, as he had himself, and he wasn't going to disrespect their intentions. They knew the risks as well as he did, and he had to trust in their judgement (and his own, honestly.)

"We will prepare for your departure. Get some sleep, eat well -- we'll supply you each with a kill for the first week and medicine."

Bluebeard cawed loudly, spreading his wings and launching right at Abyss, digging his nails painfully into her shoulder. While he couldn't fly particularly well that didn't mean he couldn't perch on the spawnling of his intolerable bonded Alpha.

"I expect all of you back the moment the sun rises! Right here! We'll be leaving with or without you, so make sure you're there!" The irritable bird snapped, jerking his head towards the group. "You heard the idiot -- go get some food and rest!"

      - - -

Daybreak came quickly, perhaps quicker for the anxious wolves waiting for their journey. Big Bad awaited them in the center of the pack, standing next to carefully piled packs, bound together by vines. Food to start their journey right and medicine for trying times, as he had promised. His bird stood on his shoulder, nodding to each wolf and bird who approached with rare approval. They had come, and it was time to leave.

Their Alpha saw them off with a boisterous wish of a safe and adventurous journey, despite how the two seemed to contradict one another. A few pack-members also wished them well, roaring shouts of well wishes as the group left the pack grounds. The cheers of their left behind pack members was a good motivator of its own, although their guide rested on Abyss' shoulder with a frown on his beak.

"We're going to the Stonehenge, which is nearby. Getting there will be hard. We don't know much, aside from the fact it's something else. Something others haven't been able to describe. So, if it's adventure you wanted, you're going to get it."

That was all he offered during the initial walking. As the group pushed through the Redwoods the terrain became desolate with each step. Dead carcasses laid where animals had given up their fight, and the trees bent with age and decay. In the dead of winter it was harder to see how the Redwoods suffered, but it lingered in the air like a heavy sigh. Death was around them, and it was watching.

The group walked slowly, at Bluebeard's order. 'It's better to take our time then wear ourselves out in a place like this,' he had stated. Night came not a moment too soon and the group was ready to settle for the night. Sure, they could keep going, as the pack was known for more nocturnal adventures, but again the warning of the woods around them rested heavy.

      Situation:

It's time to rest! Food has been spread out to consume and Bluebeard is making the rounds to check everyone is okay. Chatter is light and peaceful for the most part, unless you decide to shake that up.

Once dawn arises Bluebeard will be waking the group to discuss their next plan. There's a large lake coming up, and while it's completely undrinkable that doesn't mean the group can't try and cross it to cut some time out. But, is that safe? That's up to the group to decide...

      The path voted for the most will be where the wolves and their familiars end up heading. You may have your wolves chatter. Right now it's night time, so don't RP the morning yet. In your first post you must post in bold underneath your RP response your vote;

      A. Walk around the lake
      B. Travel through the lake

You may RP as much as you like and with anyone part of the group! On Feb 3rd at 7:00pm EST we will be moving onto the next situation.

Copper Crown had flown above as the wolves walked behind. She wanted to sore on ahead, to see what was out there, but she complied with Bluebeard's slow and steady pace. She eyed him every now and again, along with the other crow that flew with them: Light in the Storm. Both were handsome birds, that was certain. However, her mind was mostly on the thought of adventure.

When night came and they settled in, she picked at the food available and listened in to the conversation. At the mention of a lake, she smiled in amusement.

"We could just fly over it." She suggested with a laugh, but she was clearly joking. No wolves could fly. At least, none that she had met thus far. "In truth? I suppose we ought to go around it." She chittered to any who noticed her. She saw Haunting Echo look her way, in particular and bobbed her head at him, before looking around to see if anyone else had similar sentiments. "It's fact that wolves walk, not fly. Surely the same applies to swimming? Safer to go around, I say."

Haunting Echo was relieved for the rest. Sure, as a Gatherer, he was used to careful searching for anything that may be of use, but that was usually at his own pace. Even the careful tread of the exploration team seemed to be a little hurried for his liking. Still... He had made a point of not being the one to lag behind. Even if it meant feeling more exhausted when they stopped to rest.

He remained silent for the most part, if only because he wasn't sure who he could talk to. Far Sight was always the one that helped him start conversations and now that his familiar wasn't here... He felt awkward. When Copper Crown, one of Far Sight's friends, started speaking her piece about going around the lake, rather than through it, he nodded.
"I do better on solid ground. I'd prefer to go around it." He said, but then he glanced around the other wolves, trying to read the mood of the group. "But... I will go through it, if that's what everyone else chooses." He added, wanting to come across as a team player.

Crooked Rook was hungry from the day's travels, but his mind was on other things. The carcasses they had passed were numerous, and it was enough to shake him slightly. He had known this journey would be dangerous, but looking directly at death like that would be jarring for anyone.

Conversation had started, centered on the large lake that loomed before them. The chatter was an effort to decide how to conquer the lake once morning came: do they go around it — the safer, albeit longer option — or do they attempt to wade their way through it. The latter held danger in itself, but so did the former, just a different breed of danger. Personally, Rook felt the same as Haunting Echo: his paws felt better planted on firm ground. And so, he voiced as much: "I agree — I think we should go around it." His eyes scanned the other wolves' faces for reactions.

After the meeting Story went to find Blackwater. Oh, would he like to come she pondered? Her good friend was a bit of an introvert and wasn’t much for adventure, but this was the opportunity of a lifetime. She had to go and ask. But that was a fool’s errand; he didn’t feel up to the trip. The she-wolf was more than a little disappointed; recently, they had been spending a great deal of time together and she had looked forward to his company on this trip.

The group left the following day at the break of dawn. It wasn’t an overly difficult journey and Story had lots of opportunities to indulge in her passion along the way, telling stories to anyone who would listen. The bodies they encountered were a bit disconcerting, but ever the optimist she kept on grinning, thinking of the amazing journey that she had just embarked on. And it was great fodder for her storytelling. She listened to various conversations, took in the sights, and had plenty of time to think.

As dusk set in, the expedition’s leader called for the party to halt and rest for the night. Story settled in with the crowd, spun a yarn, and just took it easy. Sleep followed soon after.

“CAWW!” Story awoke with a start, drool hanging from her maw. Bluebeard called the group to order and explained the lake situation. At this, her mind ran wild. Could we really swim across? What if the water would change the color your fur or maybe it all would fall out… She shudders at the thought of being bald. Then she ponders about what clothes she could wear if she had no fur. She could wear a bear pelt and she could be like the legendary wolf Deadmoon The Bear Slayer.

She shook free from that daydream. Most of the group suggested that they go around, and to be fair, that would probably be the most reasonable course of action. Who knows what lurks below the surface of that lake… it could be any manner of strange, slimy creature: big jaws, sharp teeth, maybe it doesn’t even have eyes...

"Probably best to walk around." She nodded.

A. Walk around the lake

Light in the Storm was eager to explore much like his companion wolf: Hidden Fox. Taking off he glided in-flight keeping his keen eyes on the surface for anything more out of the ordinary. It seemed murky at best though nothing seemed out of place. Still, he didn't feel quite adept in personally advising any of them to simply tread through it for a faster journey. Hidden Fox would be for the latter since he loved exploring but, Light in the Storm seriously pondered changing his mind to bound into a dark possibility.

Landing near Russet Vision and Hidden Fox he stretched his wings. "I will advise against it, Fox". Tilting his head he grabbed some of the meat his companion was eating. Clearing his throat he spoke once more, "Not saying you strong wolves couldn't, I'm saying ... don't". "Trust me, you all should not tread through that. I say its much safer to go around"..

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

While Hidden Fox was eager to be moving, the fresh piece of meat his stomach thanked him for was really hitting the spot. In truth he was tiring out a bit from the pack's journey but, he always looked energetic as always. He pondered his father's intentions coming on this trek. Russet he was learning could develop courage though those headaches he encountered made him more so reclusive. Grabbing the second piece of meat in his jaws he paused and put it in front of his father. "Eat something dad. None of us know if we'll find kills or water in this strange place we're about to visit. I'm staying positive or the whole thing. You should as well. Eat. Before your demon returns again".

Noticing Light in the storm returned he pondered heavily. "Much as I want to jump in there, I'll pass. Never know what is lurking deep within". There indeed was much chatter among the wolves within the party at the moment. Ears perking he wondered where Strawberry's thoughts were settling. Would she be brash enough to jump into a huge body of water without hesitation? Hoping for the latter he waited to hear her response. In the meantime, he simply worked on the rest of the delicious piece of meat he was focusing on.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Russet looked at the piece of meat and sighed. Instead, he pulled himself off his haunches and walked slowly toward the lake itself. Perhaps, it was a headache that emerged or a feeling of uneasiness leaving him to pause in mid-step never reaching the edge. He simply just returned to his place of rest settling back in again. Leaning down he pulled off a piece of meat letting the taste sooth his throbbing head. His son and companion actually made sense. "No. I'd rather walk around. Something doesn't feel right for some reason". Looking around at the other wolves it seemed that most of them so far was having the same train of thought in conversations. Then he paused a final time turning to Hidden Fox, "I hope your sister doesn't jump in headfirst. I really don't want to swim in there to pull her out if she does". The thought definitely wasn't amusing.

It was liberating, to be without the oppressive shadow of her mother and the constant presence of her siblings. The long trek did little to dampen her mood, even if she never showed how elated and excited she was to be on this journey. There was something unknown lurking out there, just out of her reach, and the desire to discover it burned in the pit of her stomach. One would think she had enough of knowledge, with what she knew about herself. Oddly enough, it only heightened her need to know everything. It was why she made a fine Scout, and it was her biggest drive for joining the expedition.

Night came, and the group settled down to share food and conversation. Cacophony ate in silence for the most part, because while she was familiar with her pack members she was not particularly close to any of them. As discussion turned towards the path they would take in the morning, Cacophony found that she could only bite her tongue for so long.

They had taken long enough to get this far. Were they all afraid of getting their pelts wet? She could understand caution to an extent, but it was just a lake. The worst that could happen was someone revealed they could not swim, or worse, they were afraid of their toes being nibbled on by fish. The young female could barely hold back a roll of her eyes at the thought. "Just go through the lake," she finally spoke up with an irritated sigh, unable to hold back her thoughts.

"We're going slow enough as it is, the time we save could be invaluable." Cacophony explained with the most amount of patience she could ever be bothered to display.

Morning came and the choice was evident -- walk around the lake. While some within the group complained their bird guide favored the majority vote. A wolf piqued up; a Scout who held a frown on their face.

"I don't understand -- we can just go straight to Stonehedge if we go around the bottom of the lake. There's no reason to travel into the mountains, it'd add days to our journey!"

Bluebeard snapped their head around, wings spreading in agitation as he dug his talons into Abyss' shoulder. "There's a large rogue pack resting there. Big Bad ordered us to stay away from them until they're gone." The wolf scoffed in return, ears flattening as he shook his head.

"Or we could attack, we have the numbers and strength. There's no need to go into the mountains and around to get somewhere that should only take us less than a week to get to. We're Mercenaries -- we'll be fine."

Bluebeard shook his head, turning his head back towards the group. As he opened his beak Abyss shifted, clearing her throat to cut the bird off. "I trust you, Bluebeard, but it is most beneficial towards group morale to include everyone in the discussion, statistically."

The blue huffed loudly, flapping his wings as he focused on Abyss. "Damned be your statistics, but fine, you're right. What does the group wish to do?"

      - - -

You may try and sway the group towards your decision: travel around the lake and into the mountains or fight the pack to get to Stonehedge faster. It's encouraged for the wolves to chatter! Once your wolf feels solid on their decision please post at the bottom of a RP response, in bold, your wolves decision.

You may RP as much as you like, but the decision is needed by Saturday 8th, 1:00pm EST.

Pinning his ears forward he had allowed the wolves around him decide, as they were Crows and this was their mission. He just was the hired muscle really. But hearing the Scout mouth off to Bluebeard and Abyss he set his off-toned eyes on the Scout. He was usually a cheerful big guy but for a second his face registered the want to beat the Scout up.

Burning Oak turned to look at Bluebeard and Abyss lightly as he trotted, he had to whip his head around completely as he walked with the group in his blind spot and his good eye trained to their outer surroundings. "I would be able to protect the group better in the mountains." He stated, not wanting to go against Big Bad who was like another father to him potentially. He had wished that his father and Bad had decided upon hiring more than just him but he knew they trusted his judgement and power. And.. Well. His heart. His eye landing a glance on Abyss for a split moment as he turned his head to continue to monitor their surroundings and let his ears swivel to the next to speak up.

"I'll protect you all no matter the choice though. However, contrary to my father's name, the speedy rabbit doesn't always win the race."

Story shook her head. She really didn’t want to put her name to a decision here. Fighting is such a polarizing subject. Grand battles are the stuff of legend, but at what cost? Certainly, our pack would win this battle, but the likelihood of injury is also high. What if someone is maimed? Assuming they’re even well enough to travel, we’d definitely be slowed anyhow.
She clears her throat, “Maybe we should let them be and go into the mountains. I know we have many capable fighters here, but as any fighter must agree, sometimes you just get unlucky. I don’t think we can afford the risk. We’re not even into the Veil yet.” Story hangs her tail at this, but it had to be said. This tale could have a very different ending, depending on the outcome of this meeting.

Russet was the first to speak up after his belly was full of the meat his son had gifted him. He wasn't keen on just delving into combat, rather his sole purpose was to heal rather than be taken off guard. His mind wandered momentarily wondering if Hidden Fox would have another option since he was a free spirit that loved getting into trouble. His daughter he really worried about getting hurt or worse. "I really don't think it's a good idea to poke something we haven't the foggiest what they are capable of. Yes, they are rogues but what if they got the upper hand on those that do want confrontation. I don't think Big Bad would be happy to hear some of us got injured or possibly killed by being reckless." He felt very open speaking his mind possibly wondering if he'd be laughed at for jumping to conclusions, "I agree with Sory and Burning Oak, leave them alone and keep making our journey to the veil.

Hidden Fox, on the other hand, was ready to pick a fight if need be. He was excited about seeing the veil and what it offered but, his father's words literally tethered him away from being brash. His ears perked a little hearing Russet speak what was on his mind. His father was usually meeker in a sense keeping to himself and especially out of danger. Pausing he reflected his father's opinion in his mind. I don't think Big Bad would be happy to hear some of us got injured or possibly killed by being reckless. His father had a point. Their alpha was entrusting them with this mission to be reasonable and not jump into open flames. "I agree with dad" he paused sighing, "I think we're better leaving the rogues alone and focusing our views to the mountains." Deep in his mind, he still wanted to push those other wolves out of the picture but, what kind of son would be if he didn't back his father.

Light in the Storm could see the impatience in Hidden Fox though he also noted Russet's speech was quite an eye-opener. still, it was up to the pack as a whole what the final decision would be. "I just wish all you wolves had wings right now. We would be there and back faster than a hare at top speed". He chucked to himself then coughed, "Seriously though, I'm going to go with the boys here. You guys go tangle with the unknown. I'd rather want to arrive in one piece since I won't abandon them even if they have to fight". He pondered if this could break out into a brawl which his feathers he refused to get dirty if it came down to that. Otherwise, he'd sit and wait to hear the final call from Bluebeard concerning the situation at hand.

We aren’t on a job to fight another pack. We are on a job, from our Alpha, to explore this other realm. There is no point in looking for more trouble when we can go into the mountains and avoid the pack altogether .” Put in Haunting Echo, clearly marking his stance on where he felt about it. Copper Crown had remained silent this time.

While the Scout made their opinion known, Whitestar frowned slightly. Tactically, this scout had no idea what they were talking about. They'd lead them all into a death trap if they managed to sway the rest of the group. Still, he listened to each wolf's opinion, his frown easing as it seemed everyone disagreed with them.

"I agree with everyone else," he stated flatly, mismatched eyes focused solely on Abyss and Bluebeard. "Traveling territory all of us aren't familiar with, even without the presence of a rogue pack, is foolhardy. It seems as if this... 'occurence' won't be going anywhere soon. Better to get there in one piece--with everyone--than lose time fighting a battle we aren't prepared for."

He may have said more than he intended, but as a Guard it was his job to protect everyone in this group. He'd be damned if he let some loud mouth Scout interfere with that.

      OOC Note:

Thank you so so much for being patient. I was injured shortly after posting that update and was unable to focus enough to write, and I wasn't even able to sit up for some time! I am doing better now, but it's undoubted we missed precious time before the Veil officially closes. As a result, the direction of this event has changed to ensure everyone gets to enjoy the Veil and get their wolves out in time.

Instead of doing situations per day (we've lost two entire rounds so far :c), we're going to change to a post per day and roll your circumstance. You are in control of how the situation you roll effects your wolf. If your wolf rolls a situation where they get injured it is up to you how injured they are, and if it causes permanent damage.

Lastly, you may choose to trap your wolf in the Veil. The Veil closes on then 23rd. The wolves are, coincidentally, leaving on the 22nd. If you wish your wolf to remain trapped until the next Veil opening then please indicate so by posting in red on your final roll post that your wolf will be trapped. RP why, too. You can indicate your wolf stayed behind to grab one last resource, or that they wanted to take a day or two more to explore -- it's up to you.

Below will be a list of the situations, when this ORP ends, and rules.

      ------

      Veil Situations:

The wolves traveled around the lake and finally found themselves at Stonehenge. Something felt... different, and the wolves camped for the night to prepare. While a long discussion was had on the safety of the location and going further.

In the morning the group set out to complete their task. Some shivered in anticipation while others tasted fear in their mouth, but all set forward. They were shocked to find someone approach them (either Sylas or Sariah), especially someone so.... beautiful. The wolf offered them entry into the Veil.

Bluebeard went first, intent on risking his life first before he asked them to do the same. In he went, and out he came in one piece. His words hardly made sense as he sputtered about a beautiful twilight sky and a sense of magic he had never comprehended, but it was safe.

      So they went.

They went and saw the wonders he rambled of. How each wolf responded was unique to their own, but it was agreed the trip was worth it. Bluebeard rallied his group together, telling them they made spread out for a week and only a week. They'd be expected to make their way to the Thorn Circle promptly after so they could leave. The group was advised one thing; take something home. Anything. A fruit, a rock, a Hare, it didn't matter. They would take from the Veil and return home with something.

With that note the group dispersed.

      Rules:
      - Every day you may roll for a situation below. RP your wolf as you like, they can even be traveling with a friend! But the situation you roll you must react to in some capacity.
      - Roll by RNGing 1-
      - You decide how severe the situation ends up.
      - If your wolf takes something home please indicate what it is.
      - Use the Irithyll Guides! There are locations, types of fauna, and more there!
      - If you wish your wolf to be stuck within the Veil then say so in your final situational roll. We will include that information in our wrapping up post.
      - This ends the 22nd!

      Situations:
      1. You tripped over a root! Your head smashed into the side of the tree. Ouch!
      2. You spot a Jackalope running by with something in their mouth!
      3. The sound of a low growl can be heard somewhere around you. It vanishes the moment you notice.
      4. You catch the sight of a beautiful wolf (Ethereal) slinking by. Your eyes meet before the wolf leaps out of view.
      5. You're hungry and take a bite out of a glowing fruit. It's delicious! But... a little later you feel nauseous.
      6. You're hungry and take a bite out of a glowing fruit. It's delicious! There are no side effects.
      7. During your travel you stumble upon a gathering of Wisps. They delight in circling around you before floating off into the distance.
      8. You sniff a glowing plant. Everything starts to spin and you swear you can taste colors themselves.... you're hallucinating!
      9. A beautiful necklace lays on a rock and you make to grab it! The grass around the rock suddenly ignites! You run off, catching the glimpse of a wolf (Ethereal) retrieving their necklace.
      10. You're lost!
      11. You feel like you're being watched.
      12. A Peryton stops near you, dancing on their hooves curiously before flying off into the distance.
