Tahirah & Brown Taoloth

Tahirah and Taoloth made their way towards the weyr bowl hearing Tagtarth's summons. The brown stayed right beside his rider glad to have her back by his side and no longer sick in the infirmary. Although Taoloth had still been flying and making sure he did his best to keep his wings strong, Tahirah couldn't help but be a little nervous, she didn't want anything to happen to the brown or her.

Do not worry Tahirahmine, we will be alright. Taoloth looked up at her as they neared where everyone was, his eyes whirling with blues and purples as he looked up at her. His words and the confidence that he pushed through their bond helped to soothe Tahirah and the woman reached her hand out, running it over his headknobs. You're right. She leaned down and placed a kiss upon his head before going to put the straps on, making sure they were fitted perfectly.

Then they just had to wait their turn.

Quote:
56-60. Everything seemed to be going good until you needed to land. Then, you wind up over-shooting your mark. You fly right into your fellow weyrlings or (if it's early on) you wind up flying right into the small group gathered to watch. Your dragon tries to right themselves, but more likely drop/tumble. You and possibly some of those who had to bolt out of the way wind up a bit battered and bruised. Nice going, hot shot.

Once it was their turn, Tahirah swung up onto her brown's back and closed her eyes, taking a deep breath. As her eyes snapped open again Taoloth began to move, taking a few steps that went from a walk to a gallop. Wings spread and with a flap they caught the air and the pair was up.

The elation of being in the air on her brown's back caught Tahirah's stomach for a moment though she kept her focus on what they were doing. He moved through the air gracefully, turning and then going back to land...

That...wasn't as graceful, for whatever reason Taoloth did not manage to land where he was needed. He over-shot the mark and as he tried to correct, his claws digging into the ground, they ran into their fellow weyrlings. Tahirah clung to her brown as they came to a stop, wincing some at the sight of them making the others run out of their way so they wouldn't get bowled over. Slipping off of Taoloth's back, Tahirah glanced around a flustered look on her face. "S-sorry."

Taoloth for his part sat back on his haunches, his eyes gazing down at his forelegs. A pained creel escaped the brown and he curled his right claws, keeping them elevated. Oh, the sight of him coming into that landing was so horrible and now...Another creel escaped him and Tahirah turns her head to look at the brown walking over to him.

Kneeling down in front of him, Tahirah looked him over and shook her head, staring at the brown who suddenly seemed sheepish. "Your claw is fine, nothing is broken which is good. We just have to work on our landings is all.

L'ius & Blue Tierth

Tierth trotted towards the meeting place with L'ius in tow. The blue dragon was so happy to have his rider back and L'ius was happy as well. Certainly grateful that the other weyrlings and even candidates had stepped up to help out when he and others had been too sick to do anything.

We're going to fly together mine! Can you believe it?! Tierth bounced in place, making it a bit hard for L'ius to put hsi straps on. It will be a short flight if you don't let me make sure these are tight. This stopped the blue and he stood still, turning his head to look at what his rider as doing. Do you think we could make these look a bit more...heroic? Oh! Don't Knight's wear a symbol of their liege?

I really don't know but...I'll see what I can do. L'ius swung up into the straps to wait for them to be called, watching as the others took off.

Quote:

If your dragon is prone to panic or anxiousness, or might get upset about this, they might try to compensate by diving down, or folding their wings to drop some altitude. If they go in for a landing, it could be a bit of a crash. For dragons who are a bit more in control, they should be able to fly out of the thermal and come in for a semi-decent landing. Hope you're not afraid of heights!

Once they were in the air, L'ius had to keep himself from letting out an excited whoop of joy. He certainly felt it of course, as did the blue beneath him. Tierth flew, turning and gliding....until wing caught his wings sending the pair rocketing higher into the air.

For a moment, L'ius felt a twinge of panic, even as Tierth's laughter filled his mind. The man took a steadying breath and turned his focus to Tierth, urging the blue to fly out and away. There was some reluctance but Tierth obeyed, gliding down to the ground. The landing wasn't great, as Tierth tried to run while he landed, but it was better then crashing.

Ra'mi & Blue Zidoleth

Quote:

Ra'mi alternated between watching his fellow weyrlings take their turns at take off, flight, and landing and checking over the straps, making sure things were fitting as they should, not too tight or scraping against Zidoleth's hide. The dark, starry blue was sitting more or less still, but would wiggle or shift excitedly whenever a new relation stepped up for their turns.

For the Blue's part, he was utterly enraptured at watching his siblings and cousins taking to their sky with their riders, cheering and encouraging as needed. While some lessons needed more convincing for him to go to, today was an exciting, special day.

'Oh, Ra'miMine, we're going to go up together! It's almost our turn and we'll be flying together! We've been practicing so much. I know we're ready!' He pressed his muzzle into the teen's chest for a hug. 'You can see what it's like when I've flown alone. I'm excited for you to see!'

Laughing softly at the excitement just rolling off his bondmate, Ra'mi gave the blue a kiss between the head knobs before quietly speaking. "Well, it looks like it's our turn, so let's give it all we've got." Moving into position, Ra'mi mounted his blue and, once certain his rider was settled, up the pair went! Take off was smooth and gaining altitude had been steady but, in a breath snatching moment, a thermal swept them up a good bit higher than had been the goal. An 'Oh!' was all Ra'mi managed, but Zidoleth was delighted, not worried in the slightest. Wow! What a treat, but the gentle nudge from his rider kept the blue from getting too distracted by the lift up they received.

Zidoleth angled out of the thermal and glided, albeit probably a bit more steeply than recommended, to the landing. The blue had to beat his wings to slow down more to come to a somewhat ungainly trotting landing. That had been exhilarating! 'We did it! You saw, you felt it too! We flew!'

Nothing had strained, they had executed what they needed to. Ra'mi laughed himself breathless before dismounting. 'You did wonderfully! Way to roll with the punches!'

Soui and White Museth

What's wrong, love? Museth looked back at the young girl who'd found herself properly mounted after putting everything on. She could feel hesitation coming from the tiny figure, which was a bit unusual considering how Soui was usually gung-ho for everything. If there was a task that needed to be done then her rider was quite often front and center, yet now it seemed the teen was thankful to be among the last in the group to go. Soui?

" . . . . .I'm a bit scared." She'd gone flying on dragons many times before, what with Tsuyat and Yudueth taking her so many places, but it'd always been with her tucked safely against a rider. Now it was just the straps she made herself as her only protection. No Tsuyat at her back, no Yudueth telling her stories as they soared through the sky. Just Soui alone, on Museth. "What if I messed up somewhere and you get hurt?" The white dragon rumbled a mixture of comfort and scolding and she shifted, getting into position for take off.

The white took a few steps, pausing as she felt Soui shift against her. We will be fine. We will become something great after we take these first steps together. As always her words were soft and wonderful, a security blanket against the anxieties that threatened a young girl. Just remember to hold on, and look around. The sky is our goal.

Quote:
93 What a rush! You were on fire! Maybe you showed off a little bit once you were actually in the air, but you did it! Everything went fine, and if the glide down was a little too steep, you hardly noticed it. Good job!

If Soui and Museth were any more by the book they'd actually be a manuscript, but that was neither here nor there. At the signal the white took off as she should, and before Soui even realized it they were in the air, the feel of her dragon's wings pumping hard around her as they soared above. The ground vanished with each stroke, and Soui found that she was holding her breath.

Rest easy. We are doing perfectly. Museth's tone seemed to indicate that it was only natural for them to be doing this with grace, and the white turned sharply as she made for her decent down. This was only a moment in time for them, but it was the start of so much more. Proof that Soui wasn't a mistake had started on those sands and with Museth's shell, but this flight only cemented it more. They were going to be dragonriders.

The landing was smooth and easy, nothing else to really say. It had been...such a thrill.

Zyamel & Venandith p.2
The girl made sure she was properly settled in her straps when it was time. Venandith stretched out his wings, puffed out his chest, and made quite the show of preparing. The brown dragon took a few steps, eyes whirling a bright blue-green, before he tensed his muscles and kicked off the ground.

Even though Zyamel was prepared for the take-off, Venandth's launch was hard, and angled skyward. Though she was thrown back, her straps kept her sturdy in the seat. He flapped hard a few times, his large bulk making it difficult to do a vertical launch, but he managed. In a breath, the ground was far behind them, and the exultation of the moment surged through their bond.

It was one thing to ride a dragon... It was another thing entirely to ride your own lifemate.

Zyamel crowed in delight, with Venandith echoing the sentiment with a loud, exultant bugle. Neither cared. This wasn't some solemn moment, but the first time they were together in the air. It was... everything she'd hoped, and more.

Venandith flew past V'res, and even managed to circle back around. There's nothing to it. He mused, pride and confidence staining every word. The brown dragon looked down, hoping to see every eye upon him, and then some. He was magnificent in flight, wasn't he? He wanted to ensure that they all knew it.

I'm sure you're giving them quite a show, love. Now come on. Better land. Zyamel encouraged, not wanting the moment to end, but knowing full-well there were others waiting. Best not to overdue it.

No.

Zyamel blinked.

No? What do you mean, no? Come on, Ven, you need to land. The girl tried to put some humor in her words, certain maybe, just maybe, her brown was being silly and trying to buy more time.

No. Really now, a few minutes won't hurt. I'm the strongest dragon in this clutch, after all. He mused. And for the first time since they Impressed, Zyamel suddenly felt actual resistance from her brown. While the stubborn beast was sometimes a bit of a handful and headache, this was the first time he actually pushed back when she dug in.

The joy and pleasure of flight now took on a moment's surprise, embarrassment, followed by anger. "Of all the bloody times to pull this s**t, Ven, get down! Land now!" She hissed, this time vocally. It was just the two of them, and she could already feel the eyes of V'res and Tagtarth on her. "Get your head out of your a**, and stop it!" While she loved her brown, she knew he wasn't going to just roll over because she wished it; especially if she thought his antics amusing.

The brown dragon rumbled, going in for a glide, before gaining altitude. Zyamel gave her brown a kick with her heel--he was too big and his hide too thick for it to damage, but enough of a force to mean business. Enough of this nonsense. I said land. Thankfully, Zyamel was no slouch. There was a fighting spirit in the girl, and she wasn't about to let herself be walked upon by any man--much less her own dragon. He might have had the wings and the strength, but she had the willpower, and the drive. With as much force as she should muster, she willed Venandith to listen. You WILL get your tail down there because I said as much! And if you don't, I swear to Faranth, I won't take you up in the air for the net month! It wasn't entirely a lie, either. If Venandith wasn't going to listen, or thought himself above the rules, much less her own commands, she wasn't going to risk it.

If she had to sit back from lessons because of an obstinate brown, then she would, even if it was to her shame.

Venandith, for his part, felt the anger, shame, and disappointment through his bond--and the seriousness of her words. Giving a large sigh, the brown beast finally went in for a landing. It was a bit hard, but the brown was at last on the ground.

For a long minute, Zyamel said nothing, ripping off her helmet and trying to keep her anger (and wounded pride) in check. She didn't know how long she'd been up there--far longer than they were supposed to be--and now she was stuck. She could't go, couldn't leave, couldn't chew out her dragon like she wanted to. What should have been a memorable moment now felt tainted with embarassment and anger.

They probably thought she wanted to steal a moment in the limelight. Or if nothing else, thought she couldn't control her own dragon.

Getting out of her straps, she slid down Venandith's arm. The brown dragon turned to offer her an apologetic nuzzle, which she pushed away. Instead, she turned weave her way through the rest of the weyrlings, and find a spot away from her arrogant, bull-headed beast. Mine...

I'm not talking to you right now, Ven.

And that was that.

Akaris and Green Samodith

Akaris and Samodith presented themselves right on time when summoned, looking fine and well in order. The green had fond, soft mental touches for all of her siblings and cousins. This was not a time for the distraction of words and she knew it, and so unless spoken to would otherwise keep to herself until their flights were complete.

She at first found it quite a slight that she and her green siaters would have to wait until their larger classmates had had their turns, but the wait did prove to be...educational. While Hers checked their straps, two and three times, the bright-hided green observed as her siblings and cousins took to air, some with more finesse than others, and then returned to the ground with varying degrees of success.

When their turn approached at last, Akaris pressed a kiss to her beloved's forehead before mounting up. The young woman was, perhaps, less eager than some, her enthusiasm for the moment dampened somewhat by the absence of those she wished could have been amongst the gathered bystanders. Even if relations had been better than they were, it probably still wouldn't have been likely, but... Not for the first or last time, she felt terribly lonely.

A swell of love from Samodith swept the feeling away, and returned her to the task at hand. With a smoothness resulting from dedicated practice - and maybe an extra flap or two, but they were good and graceful flaps! - she took to the air with Hers, and it was glorious. Regret and nervous flutters fell away, replaced for a time with freedom and joy. Too soon, it was time to land, though neither dragon nor rider resisted, and Samodith brought them down with delicate care.

M'ton and Green Zygmuth

Quote:
35-45. You do great! Honestly, this flight is everything you hoped. You made it up with ease, your glide was gorgeous, and you did an ace landing. You have every right to be proud! If your dragon's known to have an ego, they can boast and rightfully so. You know V'res put you down for high marks. If your dragon doesn't have an ego, they have every right to be ooh'd and ahh'd over for such a great performance. Even they'll feel good about what they did.

If your dragon is a metallic, you will get extra praise because really, that is how a dragon should be. Browns will get high compliments and marks. Blues a smile. Greens a grunt. Whites, well... You know in your heart you're a winner.

M'ton was feeling so much better these days and happy to be up and about again. Zygmuth was simply pleased to have her rider well. Unfortunately, due to his illness, he hadn't been able to spend as much time training with the others. He was worried it would affect their performance in drills, but Zygmuth didn't seem to worried.

Her bright green head lifted at the summons. Ooooooo M'tonmine, we have been called to morning lessons. Bring the riding straps. Zygmuth wiggled in excitement as she watched her rider. M'ton nodded. He'd been expecting some sort of summons that morning. The young man picked up his leathers in a particular order that he found helped keep them from tangling. Hand on green shoulder, the pair headed down to meet their fellow weyrlings.

It wasn't until everyone had arrived, which was a lot of baby dragons, that V'res finally spoke. M'ton perked up eagerly. He'd been anticipating this day for some time, and so had Zygmuth. If he'd been feeling better, he might have given in to her encouragements to try it a bit early. He sighed softly to himself at the reminder. They were dragonriders with one goal, one purpose, in mind.

M'ton ran a check on his straps as he placed them on Zygmuth's eager body. We get to fly together today M'tonmine! Aren't you happy? I'm so happy. We can do this! We will be good! Zygmuth hummed with pleasure. M'ton followed his routine for strapping up his dragon. Of course I'm happy Zygmuth, now hold on I'm concentrating. Did I do that? And that strap goes there right? Once he was satisfied, he swung up onto Zygmuth's back.

They waited their turn though Zygmuth kept pressuring him to go sooner. Quickly enough though, their turn arrived. "Ok Zygmuth. Just like you've been practicing ok?" Zygmuth gave an excited cry, throwing her head back and launching herself into the sky. It was great! M'ton enjoyed it as she winged her way up to Tagtarth hovered, circled around them and extended her wings to glide toward Nizoanth.

M'ton knew Zygmuth was gorgeous as she glided. He couldn't be more proud as she glided smoothly down and landed with a neat little skip. He laughed and patted her shoulder. "Perfectly done Zygmuth!"

Ce'rian & green Cythereath
Ce'rian looked somber in his riding leathers, even when V'res told them that today was the day for their first flight. While he was excited, he wasn't about to make a fool of himself. The young harper was rather of a serious nature, and he knew that big moments required a certain amount of decorum. So, he kept his joy--and perhaps anxiousness--directed only at his beloved pale green. To anyone nearby, he looked serious, and his gaze full of judgment.

Just think, Mine... All those eyes on us. The idea of a captive audience seemed to thrill the delicate lady. Ce'rian gave a small snort, but his gaze softened considerably as he turned to look upon his beloved darling. Leave it to his Dearest Heart to think about attention at a time like this... not that he blamed her. It was easy to feel out of place in the mountain Weyr and very much invisible. Not only were they simply one of many weyrlings between the two clutches, but High Reaches Weyr didn't particularly appreciate greens as they had ought. It was a feeling that Ce'rian didn't entirely enjoy. He was the son of a Holder. He had Impressed the best green in the clutch. He was just as much a worthy and capable weyrling, and soon to be rider, as any of them. And yet.. the slights and comments that some could make was clear. He'd already felt unimportant at his own home; it stung even more now that it continued to happen even at the Weyr.

But that was thinking neither here nor there.

Ce'rian was stubborn enough to know that his beloved green and he would make something of themselves someday, somehow. You'll be beautiful, Love. The envy of the Weyr, and a perfect darling while on wing. You'll command their attention with no effort at all. He finally agreed, sending her a wave of love and fondness.

When it was finally their time Ce'rian felt his stomach twist. He had watched as dragons of all sizes and shapes lifted off. Some seemed to do just fine, while others struggled. What was the difference between those that did well and those that struggled? What would happen to Cythereath and him? Giving the riding straps one last tug, Ce'rian mounted his green, and assembled the straps. She was a dainty creature, smaller than many of the others, including some of her green sisters. Still, she held herself well, and her delicate carriage was immediately clear as she stepped away from her fellows who remained.

Cythereath's eyes whirled a bright blue-green, a hint of violet within their orbs present as always. She was in no hurry, and Ce'rian could tell she was taking her time on purpose, to ensure that he was ready. Ce'rian gave a mental nod, and in a sudden flash, the green leaped up and away.

Quote:
66-76. You did fine! Nothing to write home about, but you at least got up there without injury!

It was a feeling Ce'rian would never forget. His stomach dropped, and for half a second he almost felt vertigo as he went higher, and higher. There was absolutely nothing to keep him attached to his dragon but leather; and yet, Cythereath sent him nothing but affection, pride, and joy. He knew the green would not let him fall; he knew that this was far different than riding a wild runner. No, this was where Cythereath and he were truly meant to be.

He was flying with her. He was flying with his Cythereath.

The pride he felt overwhelmed him; the joy took the dizzyness he had momentarily felt away. In fact, for one moment, he was able to look around and see the Weyr from a dragon's perspective and it was beautiful.

Ah, but the moment was over far too soon.

Just as he was beginning to crave more, to crave a longer flight, he knew that it was time for them to land. They passed Tagtarth, and Cythereath, who gave the brown a sweet croon as she passed, fanned out her wings into a delicate glide. There was no doubt the little one was made to fly and Ce'rian could feel just how easy it would be for her to cut through the sky once they were allowed. She was small, and light, and agile...

She was nothing but perfect.

Cythereath landed as delicately as she could, keeping her wings fanned, and her neck craned so any on the other side might properly give her an adoring look. And they would, wouldn't they? Ce'rian's heart pounded from the rush, and though he felt a bit shaky, it took him no time at all to slide down his green's shoulder.

"You flew beautiful, my sweet," he praised, wrapping his arms about her neck in a rare moment. He hardly cared if the other weyrlings saw him drop down his guard. This was Cythereath's moment, and he couldn't love her any more.

W'ill of brown Faloth
Quote:

If your dragon doesn't have an ego, they have every right to be ooh'd and ahh'd over for such a great performance. Even they'll feel good about what they did.

It was finally TIME! Faloth could barely contain himself as W'ill rechecked his riding straps for the final time before mounting up for their first flight together. W'ill could practically feel the young brown dragon vibrating with excitement beneath him. "Calm down, Faloth!" W'ill grinned, patting Faloth on the neck. "We don't want to mess up in front of V'res!"

Oh, we won't fail! I have been practicing! Faloth's words were filled with positive feelings. We will fly better than all the others, even the bronzes!

With a laugh, W'ill urged Faloth to take off. "Let's go!"

And they took off beautifully, the brown dragon gaining altitude with powerful, confident wing strokes. They reached Tagtoth's altitude with ease and began the gliding part of the exercise. Faloth's joy at finally flying with his lifemate reverberated through W'ill's mind; he knew he was grinning like a fool, but he didn't care. This was quite possibly the best thing ever, better even than beer.

All too soon the pair knew they had to land. Peeling off gracefully from his position next to Tagtoth, Faloth soared gently downward, and as the ground approached he backwinged at just the precise right moment, settling in with a flawless landing. That was FUN! I want to do it again!

"Soon, my love, soon," W'ill chuckled, thumping the brown on the shoulder. He knew they did really well, and would likely get high marks from V'res. The cheers of the other weyrlings and those who had gathered to watch filled his ears as he dismounted with a leap to the ground.

This was what they were born to do!

Iathe and Green Skerath

A quiet intensity was trembling through Skerath, an eagerness that Iathe rarely sensed. Though she still hadn't regained her strength from the bout of illness, she'd be damned if she was going to miss the opportunity to fly with her lifemate. Iathe carefully checked her straps, muffling a cough before she pulled herself up and onto the green. Skerath easily launched herself off the ground, beating her wings with determination.

It was like a dream, everything like Iathe had ever imagined... until suddenly they were zooming up higher than she'd expected, and she felt Skerath's alarm. A spike of fear shot through Iathe for a moment until she controlled it, trusting her dragon. Skerath initially reacted with a flare of outrage until she was soothed, then, with a bit of focus, was able to get herself out of the thermal and glide back down for a bit of a rough, but steady enough landing.

Iathe exhaled roughly, patting the green's neck.

If they go in for a landing, it could be a bit of a crash. For dragons who are a bit more in control, they should be able to fly out of the thermal and come in for a semi-decent landing. Ingonth longed to honk encouragement for Aviforth and a few of the others before him, but T'rin's desire to maintain flawlessness in the presence of their teachers won him over in the end. The blue was terribly sensitive to his rider's moods these days, having come so close to losing him, so if T'rin wanted silent perfection, that's what he would get.

The energy from those pent-up honks had to go somewhere, however, so when they were given the signal to begin, Ingonth burst off of the ground like his tail was on fire, a bright flare of excitement lighting T'rin's mind as the weyrling let out a peep of surprise.

Eager, are we? he asked, his mindvoice a little squeaky.

    Aren't you?

Fair. T'rin ducked close to his dragon's neck as Ingonth shot higher into the sky without warning. Everything all right?

It took Ingonth a moment to respond. Yes, you're just... very light.

I'll try to keep from contracting the plague in the future. He made a deliberate effort to sit up straight again, marveling at the scenery below. His mind had been too full to concentrate on such things when he'd been riding here on Makhmilith's back. High Reaches is far lovelier from the sky than it is on the ground.

And now you can see it whenever you want. Landing!

    I'm ready.

81-90. You take off, and everything seems fine... Until your dragon catches an updraft that pushes them a wee-bit higher than you intended.
