The heat was not something Ramachandra was accustomed to. The silence wasn't, either, or how open everything was. It made the pale lion shudder, as he moved after the group that had gone toward the more open center. His ears fell back as his mismatched eyes scanned the area, "I don't like the looks of this place... It's... Way too quiet..." Had two entire prides really lived here? He could make out evidence of the different groups that had once resided in the lands, signs of their having existed. In the end, wasn't that all anybody could do, leave behind evidence that they had been there, they had lived?

Group: Ud, Huolongmai

Surprise! You've been ambushed. Roll 1d6 each, if you roll higher than your attacker then you'll have the opportunity to turn the fight in your favour right away,.

Ud is being attacked by Mahiri, whose roll was a 6. If you roll a 6, you can keep up. Anything less, unfortunately, and he's got the upper hand (for now).

SilverLutz

Huolongmai is being attacked by the hyenas Tirnak & Tesak, who are sharing one roll, a 4. Roll a 4 to keep things even, higher to turn things around immediately.

In one of the structures along the edge, using his coloration to his advantage, a lion watched the pair that split off from the group. They were red, and rather large... And he found that perfect. Ice-blue eyes watched in anticipation, as his shoulders wiggled. Beside him was one of the few remaining hyenas, Tirnak, with her strong jaws. Mahiri grinned, whispering to her, "Ready?" Before she could respond, though, he was moving, using a surprising amount of stealth for his lack of.... Well, he was sure Tirnak thought he lacked a LOT of things, but he was, if anything, stealthy enough. As soon as he felt he was close enough, Mahiri dove out at Ud, for once doing the smart thing and keeping his big mouth shut.

Rolling her eyes as Mahiri snuck off, Tirnak slipped around to find Tesak. While he focused on the giant lion, she opted to train her eyes on the lioness. The lioness, while still larger than the average hyena, was also an easier target. She hadn't the large thick mane of the male, and not as much aof the bulk. Her throat was exposed, as was the back of her neck, both easy enough targets for the crushing power of a hyena's jaws. Her steps were careful, silent, as she reached Tesak, "Ready?"

The hyena gave his sister a toothy grin as she came near and asked if he was ready. Oh, he was more than prepared for this day. To spill Firekin blood? Ah...it would feel so good. And, of course, his SKULL was firmly in place atop his own head, a true good luck charm.

"Of course!" Tesak replied. "You give the signal."

He idly wished that Aibu, the black lioness, had stayed longer. But for some reason, once he and Zazvor had returned with two additional Seers, she'd muttered something under her breath, thrown up her paws, and vanished into the night. It had been decided among the Nergui that there was no need to pursue her - Aibu had done as she promised in bringing the first Seer to them, and while she wasn't one of the Nergui, she wasn't an enemy. They would simply be less kind to her if their paths crossed once more.

Although "less kind" was not the same as what was about to happen here...

Nothing happens around where y'all came in but.. you do have front row seats to the ambush. Some of you may see it as it happens, some may not notice until Ud & Huolongmai have had a chance to react, but none of you can intervene in such a way that you can stop it.. yet.

If you rush over, give all characters involved in the ambush at least one more reply each before trying to get in the middle of anything.

Group: Harakhty, Atyadhik, Buvalu, Titere'dido

The investigation of the rocky side of the town reveals very little of interest. You're able to find a cave with signs of recent occupation and a couple of yellow-striped white feathers, but there's nothing there.

It's faint, but you're able to hear a commotion back near the center.

Group: Jens, Elvira, Nyota'shuti, Baba'nyota, Rive, Hehewuti

Heading for the structures almost immediately pays off. There are obvious signs that this side of the town was favoured by occupants of the temple and that any remaining inhabitants have stuck with it. The closer you get to the main temple, the more obvious some sounds become. There are whispers, but they're coming from a few different directions. Some sound more 'real' than others, but that doesn't help you pinpoint anything.

The most prominent sound is footsteps, slow at first but picking up steadily until from around a corner.. Ljena appears!

You're all too far removed (and distracted) from the commotion in the center, you don't hear anything going on right away.

User Image

Ljena didn't miss a beat, turning the corner as if she could already see exactly what was on the other side and hurrying right into the group- not stopping until she was huddled up against Rive.

"Dad! I knew you were coming!"

Ljena's trip to the Temple had been rough but it was obvious she was actually completely unhurt - it was the only benefit to her abduction by Aibu and her decision to cooperate. Onwa and Matumaini hadn't been so lucky, they hadn't even been given a chance to cooperate. But they would have been harder to take, maybe, if they weren't injured..

"There are so many of you!" she murmured suddenly, as if just noticing how many lions were around her at that moment.

Lurking in the darkness near the edges of the Temple, not far from where Mahiri, Tesak and Tirnak ambushed the two Firekin, was a small, dark and strangely marked lioness. She had shown up in the desert to start a fight with her estranged father, or her siblings who had been taken with him before when he had left her behind.. but she was too late, it seemed. What she found was not a pride, but now she had gotten herself involved so here she was. Helping.

One of the lions that her companions ambushed was huge. She didn't stand a chance on her own, and she wasn't even sure she stood a chance of helping much if it came down to it.. so she was hiding and watching for now. She was completely oblivious to the other lions in the area, focused entirely on watching the fight.

Tawi was glad Raia had decided to stay with him in the center. He stayed close to the female, never really caring for small talk conversations with others he didn't know well. "Sounds good," He offered, glancing to the raven on her back.

"Think you are okay to fly? Mstiri," the falcon on his back perked up. "Make sure you stay close by her." He ordered. Mstiri turned to glance at Raia, shaking his head. "No, of course I don't mind." He glanced at Brillo, tilting his head. "I'll catch her if she has trouble," he smiled.

Tawi let out a breath he didn't realize he was holding in. "Neither am I." Things had been rather quiet on the forefront. Tawi didn't even know WHAT to really expect from this outing.

Mstiri let out a squawk from Tai's back as two hyenas and a lion seem to rush towards Ud and Huolongmai.

By the time Tawi saw it, the beings had clashed with the two members. The dark blue male found himself taking a step forward, slightly in front of his mate, as if to protect her from any lingering assailants. "We should help." It wasn't a question, yet, the male found himself not moving to help.

Walking along the edge of some of the structures, Ud kept his nose to the ground to try to pick up any scents. There were quite a few smells hitting him but most of them were faint. Now and then a lion or hyena's markings would hit him hard, but there was nothing that suggested there were any Nergui around at the moment.

Glancing over his shoulder, he found that he and Huolongmai were the only two that had come this way. Most had wandered over to the temple proper while some hung out behind. It was never a good idea to split the group like this even when it seemed to be safe, but most of their party was made up of Mwezi and he didn't think they were the fighting type.

He was about to suggest to Huo that they wait for some other lions to join them when something out of the corner of his eye caught his attention a moment too late. The lion hit him like a rhino, silent and powerful and Ud only barely managed to remain on his paws. He let out an ear-splitting roar to alert the rest of the Firekin to the attack and almost simultaneously he saw two hyenas descend upon Huo. Outnumbered for now, but he was sure the others had heard his roar if not seen the attack.

--

Jens was glad others had decided to go the way he had picked. Being alone was something he was used to but now that he was in a new pride, he was trying very hard to turn over a new leaf and be more social. Back in his old pride he'd been very reclusive and had enjoyed it, but now he felt as though he should contribute to his new home. The noises that joined them had his ears flicking this way and that, trying to pick up voices and the direction they were coming from. It was hard, but finally footsteps reached him.

Almost immediately a young lioness appeared before the group. Jens' eyes widened in surprise before a little smile crossed his face. Ljena darted over to her father as the snowy lion turned to watch and a bit of relief washed over him. Phew...so far their mission was going well!

Huolongmai had decided to follow after Ud, figuring that it would be a poor decision for him to be out alone. Not that it was his decision...more like everyone else's decision to not follow him. She wanted to prove to herself, as well as those that she joined with on this excursion, that she could handle herself.

Everything seemed quiet alright, the stale stench of marked walls, snarled bits of brush near the strange edges of the structures. She was about to ask the Legate if he noticed anything that her novice eyes had missed...when she notice an ambush.

It was too late to react. Too late to come to Ud's assistance, and too late for herself to get the upper hand. A pair of hyenas had gotten the jump on her. She would have felt shame, if there was any room for it left after the sheer anger and will to live surged through her veins. She was not going to let some damn hyenas take her down, or she would have to shed her mother's name!

The ying and yang looking pair moved with a number of others towards the center of the structure, it was more open and there were a number of places one could look around but that wasn't what held either of their attention currently.

Pyrallis watched as a Lion and Hyena pair moved to attack two of their comrades and he couldn't help but feel a surge of anger erupt through him. It was foolish of them to attack like that, though it was likely they hadn't realized there were FAR more than what they had taken their sights too. Pyrallis was quick to move towards the two that had the upper paw on Huolongmai. He was a distance away still but his movements were quite noticeable as he approached the out numbered female.

Nkon watched in shock as two separate encounters broke out around them. He wasn't in any close position to react but he saw a few others that seemed like they wanted to do something and one or two that actually moved into action. The mwezi slave was familiar in the ways of fighting but he wasn't really sure where to go and just sorta took a moment to assess what was going on before he actually decided on what he would do just yet. He knew he wanted to help, it was just a matter of seeing who actually needed it.

With a brief glance back at the group, he noted that only a couple others had chosen to investigate the caves like himself. It was probably just as well; they didn't want too many people milling around in one place.

Shaking his head, Harakhty turned his attention back to searching. A quick glance into some of the caves showed nothing of huge interest, bar the signs of former occupants. He was sniffing at some of the leftover footprints, trying to gauge how old they could be, when he noticed something bright tucked away in the corner. Head tilting curiously, he padded his way over to it and pulled out... feathers? Strange. They were pretty though, and after a moment of thought, he tucked a pawful of them into his mane. He had said that he wanted to bring something back home to his family, had he not? Though, he'd admit that he wanted to find something a bit prettier for Senka, but he was sure the cubs would find the feathers fascinating.

The lion paused then, ears flicking up at the sound of... something. He wasn't sure what. Frowning, Har made his way back out of the cave. It sounded like it was coming from the main hub, where a decent amount of people had gone.

Titere invested mere moments into glancing about his surroundings. His pale eyes passing lions as they scattered from the most central part of their search into various nooks and crannies. His own version of a nook had been the rocky outcropping, he'd just found caves, but alas it was turning up nothing. Raising his nose to the air had told him that prey animals had been holing up in the smaller spaces seemingly using them to escape the grasp of much larger foes. Since they weren't here for hunting he left them be in favor of finding larger caves.

"Until another time." He promised the prey animals. Saying it out loud gave him a weird sense of power that burned hot and fast. Fortunately he was alone at that point, it wasn't likely anyone heard him to even ask what he why he was talking to 'nothing'.

Soon he joined with the others though. "Did you find anything?" He approached the lion he had barely known beyond the investigation itself. Titere considered himself to be fairly new still and so faces were still escaping him - the pride was huge afterall. "What have you got there?" Pale eyes widened as he noticed the lion tucking something away in his mane. The stark contrast between the mane and those feathers gave away what he was doing, and truthfully Titere couldn't blame him.

Save for one thing.

His nose raised to the air as he worked out whether his mind was deceiving him. "Those feathers, they look so familiar." What had they said... They had been told about the lions they were searching, given descriptions of what to look out for, but he wasn't sure if he was over thinking things..

"Ljena!" The name suddenly burst into his memory and hit his tongue before he could make much sense. "They may want to know, you just found feathers from Ljena!" Titere was beaming with pride and excitement. They had discovered something! Well the other lion had found something, he wouldn't take credit from others.

That's when a small sound trickled in leaving Titeres ear twitching to pick it up. "What is that commotion?" He asked the lion he'd suddenly taken up company with. He turned to glance back at the caves entrance - they weren't that deep into it, but he still couldn't make out what was going on.

Lion: Rive
Location: Structures

It was the sound of pattering feet that first drew Rive's attention; even a half-trained ear could tell that whatever was coming for them was quite small but that did not mean it could not be a threat. His abdomen clenched and every muscle in his body went rigid as he lowered into his haunches and prepared himself for an ambush - only to see his missing daughter barrel around a corner and into sight.

Dad!

For a moment, Rive could only stare at her in stunned silence, tracing her pale yellow legs and her beautiful face for any sign of a trick of injury. It wasn't until she was huddled up safe against his larger mass that he dared let himself breathe, let himself believe they might actually get her back home to her siblings safe and sound.

"Of course my heart," he whispered, trying his damnedest not to let his voice break as every ounce of his fear and desperation came pouring out of him in the wake of a sudden relief. "I would not rest until I found you."

There was so much more he wanted to say to her but as he pressed his chin atop her pale tuft of white hair, he knew that there were still others missing and a greater purpose beyond that. He pulled his head away and narrowed a pair of blue eyes upon the matching set staring out from her delicate mask.

"Ljena, do you know where the others are being kept?"

Nyx could have kicked herself. While she was sitting here staring after her not-even-mate, googly eyed and lovesick, there were actually members of her their group that were in immediate danger. Her eyes snapped back to the commotion with a hiss. In half a breath, she pulled herself to her feet and narrowed her eyes, taking her first steps forward before she could even see who was in the distance: one lion and two.. hyenas?

She was not a big lioness but these damned yellow-bellied pride lions didn't seem like they were even going to try and help! What was the point of being here if they were just going to stand around like gawking giraffes?

"Get moving!" she shouted with an edge of anger in her voice. Her own feet were already propelling herself forward and as she slipped into a sprint, barreling in the direction of the fight. She might not have been big but she was fast, crossing the space between herself and the attackers with a rogue's grace and speed.

He had several questions after his journey over the mountains; he was beginning to wonder what on earth was going on with the celestial if the sky itself was having a psychotic breakdown and there were whispers everywhere. Oh he'd known that the wind 'talked' for want of a better word, on occasions he'd heard it 'howl' through the sandy dunes... But this had been different and had left him with enough risen fur to remain prickly for at least a week after.

Nevertheless they'd arrived safely and he'd taken the opportunity to survey his surroundings. He hadn't moved off as quickly as the others, scoping out locations he'd like to investigate and see whether this fragile and bizarre land truly did have anything to offer. Alas, all he had seen were brief flickers of colour - they had been there and then promptly disappeared again leaving him to ponder over whether or not there had been anything there in the first place.

...Alas, little did he know that he was being watched just as much as he was seeking out something to watch.

It was only when he'd glanced back in the appropriate direction that it became clear he had missed the point entirely. There had been creatures around, they just hadn't been where he'd been looking. No sooner had he returned his gaze to the lions in the distance than he released that whomever was with them wasn't friendly.

Ud.

"Fu -"

The wind caught the last of his words as he leapt from his position and began to bound towards both Huo and Ud. They were outnumbered, they were outgunned...and he needed to help them.

The big red lioness was such a perfect target and Tesak was pleased to take as many swipes at her as he possibly could. But he wasn't stupid, not at all. He noticed the lions were starting to converge on the two attacks. It was just hard to really be aware of everyhting when the lioness was fighting back - hard!

But...he couldn't let his sister fight alone, so Tesak gritted his teeth and tried to maneuver for the best possible position against the coming opposition.

Turning his attention, Rama had only just noticed movmenet when an alarmed cry caught in his throat. A lion was running right at one of the desert giants! He didn't get to say anything, though, before the new stranger was on Ud and two hyenas had come out at his companion. Like many others, though, he began to hurry for the edge.

Location: The edge

Tirnak's teeth snapped at the lioness, though she made no actual move to bite. With just two hyenas and one foolish lion on the two, it didn't hurt to be intimidating. She started to circle, much as her brother, when one long ear flicked and she looked over. "Dammit!" Her hackles raised, she watched the other lions starting to get close. They were outnumbered! "Tesak, Mahiri, fall back!" She started to back off, not about to get her a** kicked by so many lions. Unless they received a miracle from Graos Oma, they weren't going to win a fight that uneven.

If there was one thing Mahiri didn't know how to do, it was how to stop. Feeling he had the upper paw, he did his best to claw at Ud and tried to bite him multiple times, ignoring everything else around him. He had the upper paw! He had the upper paw! He hadn't been able to do that with Ngoma and Ramla had gotten away from him as a result, but now, now! The gray-brown lion laughed as he continued to attack, going so far as to ignore Tirnak. If there was a second thing others could say about Mahiri, it was that he was a blazing idiot.

You can definitely hear all the commotion now, something is going on back in the center!

Location: Center & Edges

It doesn't take long to read Ud & Huolongmai. The hyenas have noticed that they're outnumbered and the lion doesn't care. They're outnumbered, no dice are necessary here.

Ud & Huolongmai - You're both well-trained Firekin, you can turn the fights in your favor. Huolongmai, you're down to one hyena and you're a lion. Ud, Mahiri is small and stubborn but you can mostly handle it.

To avoid overdoing it, only one lion can jump into the fight to help Ud get control of Mahiri. First come, first serve. You may claim the post before you fill it in, but only claim if you're going to fill it in right away.
