Meaning: Possibly "tiny/little piece". It was the name of one of the first Dwarves of creation in Vǫluspá of the Poetic Edda.
Dad? What Dad.. :

He didn't get it.

He knew moms and dads had cubs (somehow), but there always had to be one of each for some reason, right? So he had to have a dad somewhere...

For a week he looked everywhere (from safely behind his mom's front legs wherever she went) and never stopped until he was truly exhausted down to his bones (ok, actually he stopped whenever his mom did so he wouldn't get separated, and sometimes it was nap time and he was tired, but not that much). One time he made up his mind that a skinny green lion was his dad, then it was a scruffy black lion, then he was sure it was an old lion with big claws (until he realized that most lions had big claws, and also maybe old lions couldn't have cubs 'cause they were old--even older than Mom, and she was probably pretty old...). One time when he was daydreaming, he thought maybe a passing butterfly was his dad (all his siblings had wing markings, it made sense kind of). But no, that was stupid. The cub finally gave up searching and developed a habit of sighing dejectedly all the time. No one knew why he was so down 'cause he didn't want to talk about it, but whenever his sighing got too annoying (which was pretty often), his siblings would get mad, so he took to stopping his sighs half-way by holding air in his cheeks instead. When he happened to see his reflection in the water doing that one day, he thought it was funny (only a little funny) that he looked kind of like a frog--not really like a lion at all. He was pretty sure frogs grew out of the ground. Or the baby frogs came out of the spots on the mom's back or something like that.

Wait a second...

What if he really didn't have a dad...?

What if his mom didn't need a dad to have cubs...?

Because maybe his mom wasn't really a lion...?

Maybe she was a--...

The air deflated slowly and noisily from the cub's fluffy cheeks for several seconds.


"Mom's a frog," he whispered.


Future Plot(s)?:

At first he'll keep it secret that he "knows" that his mom is a frog in disguise, but that big a secret has to be shared eventually, and he'll start dropping weird hints around his siblings in hopes they'll pick up on it. Whether he's laughed at or his theory is "supported" (during cubhood) remains to be seen. Nóri will of course learn that he actually does have a father somewhere just like everybody else, but he won't be easily convinced of that for quite some time. When he's older, the wanderlust will hit him in the sense that he'll strongly desire to meet his father, whether he will have already been told about him or not.

While the whole "frog secret" will be something of a running gag within his family as he grows up (nicknames and inside jokes included), Nóri will eventually develop an affinity for frogs and toads, ultimately using his "little friends'" poisons for a variety of purposes. Whether he decides to use them for only good or bad, who can say...

Dad? What Dad.. : Resentment. The coward, the selfish coward. They needed him like all children need their father.

Future Plot(s)?: Half-heartedly try to track him down while he wanders the roguelands as a reaver then captain. Resentment and trying to be better than his father leads him to settle down with the first girl he fancies, but grows to resent/finds out they're not right for each other but as part of his rebellion he can't bring himself to leave her so he's just left with the choice of being miserable or (feeling like he's) turning into his father :c

Meaning: Green Fire - Maori (google translate)
Dad? What Dad.. : Pft. Dad is in the picture, he just doesn't know it yet. Ahi truly believes his father is actually around. He isn't looking at his siblings similar wing markings, no, he is focusing on his own flame marking. Ahi realizes a few other cubs in the pride share a similar marking, and believes that his father MUST be the same lion.

Future Plot(s)?: 1) Finding the Flame: Low and behold, Ahi found a cub named Enkeli who ALSO has a flame marking. Her sister even has wings! Although of the feathered marking, not butterfly. No worries, Ahi will stalk to find out the parent of those females, realizing it is Ciro. Also, LOOK AT HIS TOES. Gray obviously comes from him.
2) Rightful Parentalship: Ahi tries to convince Ciro he is his son. Ciro will likely believe this, until he meets his mother where he is positive he hasn't been with her. (yet...at least).
3) Not true: Unconvinced of the lineage denial, Ahi will join Ciro as an adol to earn his reavership, once again trying to convince his is a true son.
4) Realizations: When Ahi finally realizes that he was wrong. But probably wouldn't out right admit it.
5) The Truth - It would be questionable if he would try to find his real father. To be determined.

Meaning: Dreamer
Dad? What Dad.. :
Rojko has very, very, very strong beliefs of his father. Why, his father was a great Viking! One of the greatest! He plundered the lands and brought back bounties of treasure, lots and lots! He was the toughest out there, able to take on anyone and win! He even fought a crocodile, wrestled a hippo, and jumped higher than a giraffe’s head.

He. Was. Marvelous.

And it was a great loss when his father left the pride. Why, Rojko even blamed the stomach growling thing the adults talked about on the fact that his father left. Why did he leave? He was the best of the best. An absolute wonder. Sure, the adults laughed at his fanciful tales of such a great male, some even challenged it. But what did they know? He was certain his father was one of a kind.

And soon, his father will come back and save them all. Save him, even. His father wouldn’t forget about him. His father simply needed to do some stuff before he came back for him. After all, every great man needed a sidekick. And Rojko was absolutely ready to be a sidekick.

He loves his siblings, really. And loves telling tales of his father, embellishing them greatly and letting his imagination run on his larger-than-life parent. He likes telling anyone who will listen. And fight anyone who ridicules his father, his temper short and quick to ignite. Rojko fully plans on following in his father’s footsteps. After all, his father was bound to come and save him from the hunger soon! And they would travel the world together!


Future Plot(s)?:
-Disenchanted Rojko
-Bitterness rising in him as Ali doesn't come home
-Maybe runs into him. And gets along. Until he learns Ali is from the SB. And then, the markings and that bit of information click.
-Pestering his mother about more information about his dad. And arguing everything that can't possibly be true.
-Meeting half siblings in the pride. And trying to justify why there are so many.
