Sajah watched, and felt the flush under his skin bloom anew, this time with swell of success as she retreated back with a fuss. She had actually listened. He supposed it shouldn’t have been surprising—for if it was really such an unlikely outcome, surely Leukos wouldn’t have put him up to the task—but the fact remained that he had never done such a thing before, and certainly not under such circumstances. It was exhilarating, and pleasing.

All the more so to see her wriggle low cooperatively. As she snorted, he found himself grinning with amusement.

And, at Leu’s instruction, he gave a hum and nod, moving out the hand with the meat and holding it at a slight dangle with an inviting shake. He gave a light, encouraging whistle. Take it from someone who’s had to make a point… His gaze flit to Leukos with no small amount of open good humor, impossible not to think as he said it: ‘You ate raw meat to make a point…’

That, in Sajah’s eyes, was some dedication.

Meanwhile, when it became clear she was being invited in, Tazkah did rise her chin off her paws, edging in, though she kept her posture relatively low, her eyes moving from Sajah, to Leukos, and back, as though waiting for a sign this wouldn’t be permitted—before eagerly streeetttching to catch the bottom end of the meat slab where he dangled it, and taking it with more gusto once he released it to her fully.

Sajah smiled to watch, a proud warmth in his chest still to have succeeded thus far. «She is a good girl…» He glanced to Leukos. «Thank you for letting me meet her. That was very…exciting.» He flashed a bit of teeth.

Leukos could not be happier with the way things had turned out. Sajah had done everything exactly right, and now here they all were, together and relaxed. Like it ought to be. He took the rag he kept on his belt, wiping off his hands as he offered it up to Sajah, coming close to the pair once again.

“I'm glad you liked it,” he said, grinning as Tazkah horfed down the last of the chunk of meat and smacked loudly at her lips, large tongue going to work cleaning her paws. “Not everyone feels the same way about her yet: all they see is an ill mannered creature with too much wild in her still. But that's what makes her so wonderful. Even when she's fully trained, I hope she never loses that clever spark.”

He sat down on the ground next to her, tugging at her horn. Her ears perked up, immediately rising enough to leverage a better angle for draping half her weight across his lap, rubbing her cheek along his shoulder. Leukos cooed into her ear, biting it between his teeth as he solidly patted her hip. This earned an enthusiastic succession of snorts, playfully mauling his hand.

But then she started biting a little too enthusiastically, and Leukos frowned, giving her face a hard smack as he corrected her. “Ah, no.” She let it go with a snort, moving instead to lick at his scared arm, getting a full taste of that Leukos scent. And something else that was always on his skin, some other presence she had not been able to identify before. But now, that smell was more fresh, and present here in the air. As if coming upon a new discovery, she lifted her head, taking in a lung full of air, snout pointed in Sajah's direction. And tipped her head curiously, getting up to pace over, shoving it right onto his belly, sniffing.

There was no mistaking it: this was the smell that always clung to her alpha. It belonged to this other blue creature.

This was his mate.

She moaned, rubbing her cheek onto his hand and across his thigh, getting her smell onto him as well. He was part of the pack. That was why he got the meat before her. She would remember this one, this one was good. This one could be trusted.

Leukos watched the whole exchange progress from his seat on the ground, an anticipatory energy growing in his gut. This was a special moment, one that would change their dynamic forever. Tazkah had accepted Saj. It was both touching and enlivening, and he could not say he had been this happy in a while. He rubbed away some moisture that had collected at his eyes again. But this time, at least they were good tears.

Sajah hummed, taking up the offered rag to wipe between his fingers and watching with amused interest as Tazkah happily gobbled. «I hope she does, too…» He doubted Lord Zeroop would appreciate it, and perhaps it was an unfair thing to want, when it would likely only cause her strife. But in the same vein, he never would have wanted to be broken so much by his Masters that things became ‘easy’ for him. Better to have the spirit and retain that sense of identity and vive for life, even if it meant trouble at times.

And, he thought passively, nothing had been written yet. The future was still a blank canvas none of them could predict and one never could know all that it might have in store. If he was especially successful, perhaps things could be different for her than they appeared now.

Regardless, it didn’t seem the time to bring the thought up to Leukos in any fashion, as he was clearly focussed on the present—as he should be—and appreciating it for what it was. All, in Sajah’s mind, the right way to go about things. Besides, it inspired a certain warmth in his chest just to watch them together, and in spite of himself, Sajah found he dearly hoped he could do something to change their stars. That, though, would have to wait, and for now-

He blinked as she approached, raising his eyebrows—and then grunting as her snout butted against stomach lightly with intense, curious sniffing. It hadn’t occurred to him before, but now that he thought on it and reminded himself she was an animal with a much more refined sense of scent than either of them, he had to wonder if she had smelled him before. She was around Leukos all the time, and until his arrival, there had been nothing to connect the two, but now that he was here — it didn’t seem too much of a stretch to think that some of his presence might have lingered in Leukos’ ‘scent’ enough to be notable after their various couplings consistently in the months prior. It might explain the ready welcome.

But, regardless of whether or not this was the case, Sajah found himself flushing with surprise — and abashed pleasure — to receive such enthusiasm so soon, and he reached, stroking her snout and then down her back as she rubbed. Good, was all he could seem to think in that moment, I am glad we can be on the same team… For now.

But with any luck, he added in a mental promise to the beast, perhaps we can get you away from Lord c**k Head, too…he certainly doesn’t deserve you.

It would just be a matter of a little preparatory digging—and seeing what that turned up.

Leukos could have stayed where he was for the rest of eternity and been perfectly content, enjoying the company of his two favorite creatures as they rolled around in the shade. But as right and perfect as this moment felt, he knew with an unpleasant kernel of dread that it could not last forever. Her owner would come back. He would see Saj getting so close, and throw a fit, maybe even taking it out on Tazkah. Leukos could handle the verbal abuse.

But he didn't want her to have to go through that.

So with a heavy heart, he took in a few more seconds of this sight and stood up once again, dusting off his bottom. He stroked the skin along Tazkah’s throat as she purred, eyes closing contently. “Well, it's time to put this big girl away for the night. She's had a very eventful day after all.”

With misplaced guilt, he gently pulled her away from Saj's thigh, giving him a plaintive look. “You should probably go wait up front for me...we've tested our luck long enough. He could return at any second.” He did lean however, giving Saj a slight kiss as he rubbed their noses together. “But I'm so glad we did. We should do it again sometime, but when everyone is gone, and you can spend as much time as you want getting to know her. I know she'd enjoy it too~”

Sajah could see the change as Leukos’ expression shifted, even without his prompting, from relaxed contentment to appreciation again of their circumstances as they were, and thus, when Leukos stood, Sajah knew their time for now had come to a necessary if regrettable end. But it was still a pleasure to see her purr, and there would be other times, at least in the near future, if Leu saw fit to allow them, so at the words, Sajah nodded.

“Mm.” She had had a long day, and done well. She deserved rest as much as either of them.

When Leukos leaned, though, catching him in a kiss and affectionate rub, he flushed, smiling and relaxing, hand moving on instinct to touch at Leu’s hip—and then lightly fall away again. «I am glad too…and I would like that very much, I think.»

Perhaps it wouldn’t last, if it turned out there was nothing he could do. But Sajah had never been one to pass on an enjoyable and worthwhile thing simply because time might change the circumstances. It was always possible that events to come could snatch away every good thing one had in life. That was never a reason not to enjoy them while they lasted to their fullest extent. So, as Leukos retreated with Tazkah towards her pen to put her up for the night, he moved himself out of the enclosure entirely to a safe and unsuspicious distance on the other side of the fence to wait up for his lover.

One day, things would be different. How exactly, there was no telling. But time would see to it, and in the in between Sajah could only hope for the best, and resolve to do what he could to bring about those results most desirable for the ones involved in his life.
