Scarlett chuckled as Zak pointed out the shift in order, giving a dismissive wave. "Yeah yeah. It's both. I wanted to battle gyms and get eggs, and thankfully those interests both aligned nicely." She explained with a lazy grin. She didn't really care about her inconsistency. She was pretty sure Zak didn't either, not really anyways, he just wanted to point it out because it was something he could tease her on. Kind of like her whole pirate theme that he seemed to find amusing but never really criticized her on, aside from the occasional playful prodding.
When she suggested she already knew where she wanted to take him, she was met with skepticism, but she was able to shrug it off pretty easily. If he didn't want to believe her, it didn't really matter. It was the truth though. She had seen this place while flying around Alola and she hadn't had the chance to visit. First thing was first though, so when Zak returned after taking care of other things like changing clothes and cleaning up, they stopped quickly by Konikoni City to get drinks, some scotch and a couple shot glasses before they finally arrived at Kala'e Bay, dropping them off just outside the seaward cave where a small slab of rock overlooked the entire bay. It was supposed to be one of the best views in Alola, and it was easy to see why. The late afternoon hues of orange, red and pink were reflected on the crystal clear water, sparkling with the last rays of sunlight. "Isn't it great?" Scarlett breathed, grinning back at Zak over her shoulder. She hoped he'd like it, but she wasn't sure if he went for this sort of thing. To her though, places like this were a treasure in of itself. "I love little coves like these, especially in the summer, since you can stay cool by the water without a crowd like there is at the beaches." She suggested.
That was one of the perks; it was quiet and no one was in the area. If you knew about the location as a tourist, it was probably a popular spot, but it was likely that every tourist was in Iki Town enjoying the luau, which meant Scarlett could steal this place for the time being. It was beautiful at sunset, but she couldn't wait to see it at night under the stars. Opening her bag, she pulled out the scotch and glasses, setting them aside and gesturing for Zak to join her.

Zak hitched a ride to Konikoni City via the 'traditional' way for the egg hunt, realizing that, perhaps, his teleporting around had helped cut down on his time, too. Charizards tended to fly pretty fast, though... but he wasn't going to mention it, anyway. He took a different ride than Scarlett and sort of hung back, letting her do most of the shopping, but suggesting he wanted "Something strong," in the ways of alcohol. He stayed otherwise fairly quiet; not moody, or brooding, just passive, hanging back with his hands in his pockets, sometimes looking lost in thought, sometimes just looking as though he were patiently waiting to move on, and didn't have anything in particular to say.
When they reached the cove, he noticed he had a message, and checked it, absently walking off a little, but still listening to Scarlett. "Mhm." The response was present, not distracted, but clearly a bit less than her own enthusiasm, and his gaze was still on his watch. Perhaps, admittedly, because he was just trying to ignore how... romantic the setting was. He doubted she'd intended it or anything, but.... well, how weird was it that he was the one noticing this!? He looked up as she continued, placing his hand back in his pocket, and deciding to reply to Ashley in a bit. If the guy didn't want to head his warnings... .
"Da," he agreed absently, looking around, more invested this time, "I'm surprised zere aren't more people here, not even locals..." he admitted. Place like this, he would have thought would have at least a few sunset viewers around the edges or something. Maybe the luau had managed to draw them all off or something, though.
He moved over to join her, glancing out over the waters, before adjusting himself to get comfortable. "So, Mishka, planning to return to training after zis?" he asked casually, brushing a bit of sand off himself, before reaching for the alcohol. He... totally wasn't trying to dodge anything here. The situations, questions, curiosities.... He knew he'd been acting just a little odd, but honestly, he was just.... tired. The egg hunt, Constance, Imperium, his jobs, and... everything else. He felt like laying down and closing his eyes, but he didn't feel like he was exhausted and ready to fall asleep. He was just... mentally spread thin, and while physically, he could probably use the sleep, he was still too something to even think about just laying back and dozing off and letting the moment go. Even if, at the same time, he was ducking around it like a coward.

For the first time since they'd met up again, Scarlett looked mildly irritated as Zak walked off a little and murmured absent agreement about the view as he checked his watch for messages. She wasn't sure if he just didn't admire these sorts of sceneries as she did, or if he simply didn't want to act impressed, or just didn't feel like paying attention since he had something more important on his communicator. It could have even been that he just wanted to make sure and check that his work wasn't messaging him, but still.... He didn't seem all that enthusiastic. She pursed her lips. Ashley would have appreciated the view, she thought bitterly, and then resented herself for the thought. Why did she even care? It was almost like some sort of justification that this was a good place to escape to as a reward, just maybe not for Zak.
Admittedly, it was a little disappointing, but frankly she wasn't sure what kind of places he did like to go. In fact, would there even be a place she could have gone that would have impressed him? Or would they all have received the same response? The idea calmed her down. Yes, it was likely he wouldn't have been impressed no matter where she took her, so rather than argue with him about it, she tried to point out the perks of being at a cove like this to draw him back in with some success. "Yeah... I'm sure the tourists aren't here because all of them are going to the luau, but... I'm not sure why locals wouldn't be here right about now... Maybe they want to go to the luau too." She suggested with a smile, glad he seemed a little more invested now.
She smiled as he moved over and shifted to get comfortable, looking thoughtful as he asked about her training. "Probably not. I think I need to go beat Fantina first before my pokemon start disobeying me." She suggested. Vandal was his own problem, but Luna and Damien were getting pretty close, Damien especially now that she'd gotten him a massage that was supposed to help with training. "After that though, yeah. I'll be goin' around. Some gyms I only fought the first three for the sake of time, may as well go use the fourth gyms once I take care of Fantina, and well... There's Kalos too. Haven't done anythin' there yet since none of the eggs were in gym cities." She suggested, watching as Zak made to start pouring alcohol, so Scarlett grabbed the other glass and held it up. "Pour me a shot too mister bartender?" She asked with a grin.

Zak shrugged, taking a shot of the scotch. "Probably," he agreed vaguely, finally looking back out at the scenery. Damnit, he was probably being irritatingly distant again. He shifted, and looked down, pouring himself some more, and glancing over at her as she answered his question. "Fair enough...." he remarked, eying her with some consideration. Hmm... Fantina was the fifth gym leader, wasn't she? Which meant he'd really have to hop on getting at least one more badge in Unova. It shouldn't be too difficult, but he'd need not to get distracted.
He flashed her a playful smirk. "Just remember, Mishka, only consecutive badges matter vis me," he teased. He leaned over and poured her some as she asked, still smirking some. "I have expected you to call me 'monsieur'," he commented, drawing back and capping the bottle to set between them. He leaned back on one hand, looking at her out of the corner of his eye, before gazing out. He wasn't... jealous of the exchange she'd been having with Ashley, more curious, if anything. He didn't feel threatened (why would he? Ha. Ha. Ha.) but it was a little weird to think she might have someone to compare him to, now. Though, he supposed she probably knew plenty of other guys outside of who he was aware of...

For being so seemingly uninterested in the scenery before, Zak certainly appeared to be looking out at it frequently now. Then again, maybe it was just because it was there and nice to look at, even if he wasn't super stoked to be here. Scarlett somewhat scoffed as Zak oh so gently reminded her that he only cared about consecutive badges. "I know, I know, but asked about my training, so I told you. They make for good target practice and I get rewarded for it, what's not to like?" She suggested with a grin, watching as Zak poured her a shot. "What about you? Still at six consecutive badges?" She asked. Surprisingly, she just seemed curious, not being passive aggressive. She wanted to know if his work and... Perhaps other things had really been keeping him that busy all this time. Too busy for gyms.
She smirked somewhat as he commented that he was expecting she'd call him 'monsieur', knocking her shot back and leaning back on her hands with a sigh. "I can if you'd like, but I thought you preferred Kotik?" She suggested, catching the way he was looking at her. It was that sort of expression that she found hard to read, because clearly there was something there, but what, Scarlett couldn't quite discern. "Parlez-vous français?" She asked curiously, following his gaze out to the bay. Even if he didn't know any French, it was probably obvious what she'd asked, or at least, Scarlett thought so. Then again she was a linguist, languages came easy to her especially since she was interested in the, She could always just translate for him if he didn't know what she'd said, she supposed.

Zak snorted. "'Still' at six badges?" he playfully drawled, as if taking her comment the wrong way. He was fairly obviously joking though. He paused, before shrugging. "... Yes," he admitted, looking off, but then flashing a smirk, "But, like you, I plan to go battle a gym after zis. And zen get back to training." His smirk grew to a bit of a grin. "Perhaps battle some uzzer gyms...." he playfully threatened. There was an insinuation he'd, then, surpass her in those regions, too, but he didn't say it. He didn't want to ruin the mood by being overly competitive or anything.
He scoffed a bit at her remark. "I vould prefer ze nickname I sink," he muttered into his shot glass, though he was still smirking a bit. He glanced over at the question, looking at her a moment, then shaking his head and pouring himself another shot, before grabbing a beer. "Not really," he answered, tossing back the scotch, before setting the glass down and popping the top off the beer bottle. Obviously, he understood some of it, but.... no, he didn't really dabble in languages, at least not as much as she did. He knew some Japanese, though not as well as Russian or English, and he could catch some bits of other languages, but that was about it.

Scarlett rolled her eyes with a grin, his mocking and playful offense showing that he knew damn well she didn't mean it like that. Rather than taking the bait, she waited patiently as he paused, probably mulling over whether or not to answer. Surprisingly, he eventually admitted to his lack of progress before looking away. Scarlett bit her lip, trying very hard not to laugh. It was rare Zak was ever honest with her, and she couldn't imagine how hard it must have been to admit this, so she didn't want to punish his honesty by laughing at him. It wasn't even his lack of progress that she found amusing, it was the fact that he'd seemed to be playing up mock offense to her suggestion and normally the follow up to such an act was to suggest he'd made some progress, but instead, he'd admitted that she was right. It was unexpected, and hilarious.
Scarlett held it together though. "Wow.... I.... Didn't expect you to be so honest." She suggested, surprised and trying very hard to keep her tone nice and even and calm, as if at any moment she would lose her composure and start cracking up. Thankfully Zak quickly followed up with a smirk, suggesting that like her, he planned on battling the next gym soon, and would also be getting back to training, and battling other gyms. Now Scarlett allowed her smile to cross her face, but now forming a challenging smirk. "Is that so...?" She mused. "Well. Looks like this time I'll be the one trying to catch you then, kotik~" She grinned. Challenge accepted.
"You think?" Scarlett chuckled as Zak expressed an interest in keeping his other nickname. "Ah, but I do agree. I think it'd feel weird to call you monsieur. You aren't snooty enough." Scarlett teased.

Zak quirked an eyebrow at her. "I try not to brag or boast about sings I cannot actually take proper credit for, Mishka," he replied rather simply. That was true, for the most part. The line was pretty blurred, honestly, but of course, this was Zak; he would likely stubbornly stand by and defend anything he claimed, and said, even if they contradicted each other. He chuckled a little at her response, though flashed her a questioning look as he sipped his beer. "How so?" he queried, before drinking more of the bottle. So much alcohol, and yet not enough.
He shifted a bit, hsi attention now more directly centered on her, instead of the distraction of looking at the scenery. He scoffed at her excuse for not calling him 'monsieur'. "But zat Ashley is?" he pointed out with a confident smirk. Though, he didn't actually know for sure if she'd called him that -- he didn't remember if she had when he'd been there -- but he sort of assumed... plus, French.

Scarlett nodded in understanding as Zak explained his reasoning for being honest. She supposed that made sense. "Well sure. That doesn't mean I expect to to come clean and admit to it though. I expected... I daenno... Clever diversions." She suggested with a smirk and a circular gesture of her hand, grabbing a beer for herself and uncapping it to take a drink. They were still quite cold, refreshing for the hot summer heat. Even being by the water, it was still quite humid and every little bit of cold helped. She was mildly surprised as he asked how she would be trying to catch him though, she thought it was obvious. "Badges, kotik. I worked so hard just to close the distance this far, I'm not going to let you surge ahead of me again." She suggested with a smirk.
As the discussion moved towards French, Ashe, and nicknames however, Scarlett watched as Zak shifted his full attention to her. It was... Almost flattering, in a way. She certainly did like having his undivided attention, good or bad. "Hm.... No. He was... Really nice, actually." Scarlett admitted thoughtfully, turning to look at Zak. If he was giving her his full attention, then she may as well return the favor. "Or at least, he was nice to me. It's entirely possible he can be the snooty type to people he doesn't like, and we just happened to get along well. I just met him today after all, how would I know?" She suggested with a shrug and another sip of beer. "The only reason I called him 'Monsieur' was because he's French, and we'd been speaking in it, so it seemed appropriate." She explained. There were two ways to use terms like that after all, either in a condescending way, or in a respectful way, depending on the tone.

Zak scoffed a bit, but smiled as he sipped his beer. "Vell, I'm sure some of zose vill come vis time," he replied back playfully, looking at her. He lingered a moment, then looked down, appearing, at least, in thought as he took another drink. He flashed her a smirk when she clarified. "Zen you vouldn't be catching me, Lisichka. You'd be trying to stay ahead," he pointed out with a wicked grin unfurling over his features. He knew she'd been getting at that-- but he couldn't help but poke at the wording. And with her other nickname, to put on an ironic twist.
He rolled his eyes a bit though, adjusting himself and rolling his gaze off to the side, away from her, at her elaborate response. He looked back at her with a raised eyebrow, but an amused smirk. "I vas joking, mishka," he murmured in a low tone.

Scarlett chuckled as Zak insisted that clever topic diversions would come in time, taking a sip of her beer and looking out at the bay. She didn't doubt it, but she appreciated the honesty she got now and looked forward to the little conversations they would be having in the future. She felt his eyes on her for a moment, but when she glanced his way, he was looking down in thought. When she mentioned catching him though, he retorted saying that she would be trying to stay ahead, and at this Scarlett grinned widely, leaning in a little closer toward Zak. "I was reffering to consecutive badges kotik. They're the only ones that matter to you, after all, right?" She suggested playfully. Then again, maybe the other badges did matter to him too, and he couldn't stand her being ahead of him in some way, given how competitive he was. She would certainly be keeping up with those gyms too though, given that they were good training material. She was still behind him in consecutive badges however, and if he thought he was ready to take on his seventh gym, then she was still two badges behind him. It would be a fun challenge to see if she could catch up to the eighth badge before he did.
Scarlett chuckled as Zak rolled his eyes and insisted he was joking about Ashley. "Sorry. I blame the alcohol." She insisted with amusement, setting her bottle down and laying fully on her back, lacing her hands behind her head to look up at the sky. The sun had sank low enough that the stars had started to come out, and she watched, waiting and trying to spot others to reveal themselves. "I bet ya that when the sun's gone that sky will be covered in stars.... Then the water will look like a galaxy..." Scarlett mused aloud. "Out at sea, that's always how it looked because the lights of the big cities weren't around to interfere. I used to stick my hand in waters like that, pretend I was arranging the stars, and then maybe...." She paused. Why was she telling him this? "Ah, sorry, I'm ramblin' again aren't I?" She chuckled, shaking her head. Maybe she should lay off the alcohol for now.

Zak deadpanned and stared at her, before, surprisingly, actually smirking a bit at himself and taking a drink as he looked away. "Oh..." He looked back at her. "Clever," he replied sarcastically. At least he was taking his confusion well. He wasn't getting all worked up or embarrassed by it, or angry. Perhaps it was because of how drained he was feeling.... or maybe he was just in too good of a mood for it.
He rolled his eyes plafully and gave her a look at the excuse, frowning into his drink, so she couldn't see, when she laid down. His gaze lingered on her a moment, before looking back out at the water, and then glancing at the sky as she spoke up. "Really?" he muttered quietly when she mentioned the ocean reflecting the sky. He'd been.... fairly positive that wasn't possible. It was moving too much. Reflections required still water, or at least, for them to be worth much. And the ocean usually reflected the moon's light so much, any hope of just the stars was usually washed out. Maybe she was talking about a certain place? Or maybe he just didn't know what he was talking about... he hadn't spent much time in the middle of the ocean, after all. He shook off the impression and glanced back when she trailed off, raising an eyebrow. He shrugged at her self awareness. "Yes, but don't vorry, it's fine," he replied honestly. He didn't really know how else to respond. He didn't care, at the moment, but.... he wasn't exactly someone who talked about that kind of thing, either. He wasn't going to prompt her to spill her feelings, or gush about her past. He was a 'interest in the person (maybe), not their past' kind of guy.

Scarlett quirked a brow at Zak's deadpan expression, watching as he seemed to process what she was saying and then settle for a smirk and sarcastic admittance of her reminder. She supposed he didn't like the fact that he'd misunderstood her. Perhaps the alcohol was getting to him too, numbing his senses and thought processes and fogging everything up, but also keeping him surprisingly calm. As she laid back and looked at the stars beginning to peek out, she prattled on about memories out in the ocean with the night sky, though Zak seemed confused by the suggestion. "Yeah. You'd be surprised how still the ocean can be when you're in the middle of nothing but endless sea... Far away from any source of land..." She explained. Then again, it could have just been dreams. There were many times when she was mixed up between reality and dreams, that was partially why being messed with by the unown was particularly aggravating.
She apologized again for rambling about nonsense that he probably didn't care about, but he insisted that it was fine, not seeming to upset or bored by it, nor really itching to hear more, which... Scarlett appreciated honestly. Sometimes it was nice to just talk and not be interrogated or judged either. Unfortunately, because of this, they settled into a sort of silence, their conversation hitting a sort of uncomfortable dead end, and with it, Scarlett felt the donaphan in the room growing larger and larger, bugging her to say something, ask about his weird behavior as of late, but she pushed it away, sitting up and looking at Zak, then at the ground. "Can I please meet Meebus?" She asked slowly, hoping he wouldn't get mad. "I'm not trying to pull anything, and you're here so it's not like you couldn't interfere." She pointed out. "I just want to meet him in person, that's all, honest." She promised.

Zak quirked an eyebrow and shrugged some. It still didn't make much sense to him, but, again, he hadn't spent a lot of time. He glanced over as silence began to drift over them, looking at Scarlett a moment, lost in thought. Eventually, he pulled his gaze away and looked back at the water, but glanced back with a frown as she sat up, and asked about... Meebus.
It honestly wasn't so much the question that irked him. It was more the way she asked. No attempt at playfulness, no easing into it, no lightheartedness. It rubbed against the mood they'd had going, at least for him. "Vhy?" he asked flatly, though at least he didn't sound annoyed. Just... blunt. Maybe unamused, but not suspicious or put off. He'd rather leave the ghost in his ball, personally. He almost preferred the silence, to this, actually.

Scarlett sighed. So much for not angering him, but really, there was no other way to go about it than being direct. Unfortunately that still didn't help her when Zak asked for a reason. "I.... Don't know." She confessed, glancing away. She didn't know why it bothered her that much. It wasn't like she felt guilty though there was admittedly something akin to the feeling brewing within her. She really wasn't looking for more information, she knew she couldn't get it with Zak sitting right there anyways, but still. She wanted to see him, meet him like she said they would. "Curiosity I guess...." She muttered, pulling her knees to her chest and looking out at the bay. "I suppose I just like to put names to faces too. Meeting in person remedies that... Maybe I'm more social than I'd like to believe." She scoffed. "It's fine, forget I asked." She dismissed, closing her eyes and disappearing into her own mind. She shouldn't have brought it up at all. She knew it was a bad idea, and yet.... Well, maybe it was for Meebus' sake. That somewhat guilty feeling in her chest, knowing he was in trouble because of her. When it came to people, she couldn't care less about 90% of the time, but pokemon.... They were different somehow, and she liked that quirky personality he'd had, so something tugged at her to just ask. What harm could it do? Yeah right. She forgot this was Zak she was talking to.
